According to sources close to Cissy, she wants to go back to room 434 at the Beverly Hilton hotel and reestablish a spiritual connection with her daughter … in order to come to terms with her sudden death. We’re told Cissy plans to pray while she’s there — and just spend quiet, contemplative time in the space. As one source put it — Cissy “won’t be at peace until she gets closure.” It’s unclear when Cissy plans to return to the hotel room — but we’re told the visit will be soon … she’s currently planning out the logistics. Can’t really argue with their logic… Author and activist Maya Angelou hopes for a time when Black History Month will no longer be needed to explain the contributions of African-Americans. “We want to reach a time when there won’t be Black History Month, when black history will be so integrated into American history that we study it along with every other history,” she said in an interview from her home in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Wednesday. “That’s the hope, and we have to continue to work until that is true, until that becomes a fact.” In the meantime, she said, she will continue to put the history out there. Angelou is hosting an hour-long syndicated radio special on the civil rights era that will air throughout this month on about 200 public radio stations across the country. Her special features Grammy award-winning singer Mary J. Blige, Democratic Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, economist and Bennett College President Julianne Malveaux, and professor Nikky Finney, winner of the 2011 National Book Award for poetry. Angelou, 83, said she hopes the program sends a message that “the work of making our country more than it is today” is unfinished. Speaking at the memorial service for Joe Paterno, Nike chairman Phil Knight on Thursday called the former Penn State football coach a hero and defended Paterno’s actions after being told of alleged sexual abuse by former assistant Jerry Sandusky. “If there’s a villain in this tragedy. It lies in that investigation, not in Joe Paterno’s response to it,” Knight said. Paterno, who in 2002 passed along the allegation to his superiors, died Sunday at age 85. The Bryce Jordan Center crowd gave Knight, who rarely gives interviews, several ovations. For those that don’t know, Phil Knight and Joe Paterno were very good friends, so we get that he wanted to rep for his dead homie. Penn State is a horrible, horrible place. “Coach Paterno remains employed by the University as a tenured faculty member,” the Penn State Board of Trustees said in a statement released Thursday. “The details of his retirement are being worked out and will be made public when they are finalized. Generally speaking, the University intends to honor the terms of his employment contract and is treating him financially as if he had retired at the end of the 2011 football season.” Paterno was suspended through the end of the season, but now he can retire and get full benefits as if he coached the whole season. The board apparently did that in response to all of the outrage from the board over his departure. Yup, football is more important than a child’s innocence. So sad. More On Bossip! Police did not have the right to stop a car being driven by President Barack Obama’s uncle before his drunken-driving arrest, his lawyer said in court Thursday. Attorney P. Scott Bratton said during a brief appearance in Framingham District Court that he plans next month to file a motion to suppress the traffic stop that led Onyango Obama’s arrest in August. “He wasn’t committing any motor vehicle violations at the time. That’s our position,” Bratton said. Obama, the 67-year-old half brother of the president’s late father, has pleaded not guilty to charges of operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield the right of way. Obama did not speak in court Thursday. A hearing on his lawyer’s suppression request is scheduled for Jan. 12. Obama was arrested in Framingham, about 20 miles west of Boston, after police said he rolled through a stop sign and nearly caused a cruiser to strike his SUV. Police said Obama, an illegal immigrant, failed several sobriety tests and blew a reading of 0.14 percent on a blood-alcohol breath test, above the state’s legal driving limit of 0.08 percent. Despite being an illegal immigrant, it appears that Mr. Obama has a good grasp on how things work here in America… After being booked at the police station, police said Obama was asked whether he wanted to make a telephone call to arrange for bail. “I think I will call the White House,” he stated, according to a police report.
