In October of 2014, Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of shooting and killing his 29-year-old model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Today, less than one year later, Pistorius is a free man, having been secretively released from prison late last night in order to avoid media attention. Pistorius will now serve a four-year house arrest sentence at his uncle’s palatial mansion in Johannesburg. Pistorius was originally slated to be released in August, but angry letters from hundreds of outraged South Africans – including Steenkamp’s grieving parents – persuaded the nation’s justice minister to hold him for another two months. “We have forgiven Mr. Pistorius, read the letter from Steenkamp’s parents. “However, a person found guilty of a crime must be accountable for their actions. Incarceration of 10 months for taking a life is simply not enough.” A lawyer for the family says the Steenkamps are still angry, and still believe that justice was not served. Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide , which is comparable to manslaughter in the US justice system. The sprinter – nicknamed “Blade Runner” by fans – earned international fame after becoming the first double-amputee to participate in the Olympics. Many believe Pistorius received preferential treatment from the South African justice system.

When McKayla Maroney first addressed the nude photo scandal , she claimed that the images that the images that were reportedly of her were actually Photoshopped fakes. Now McKayla is seemingly admitting that the pics are – in fact – authentic, adding that she was under 18 at the time that they were taken. TMZ reports that Maroney is threatening legal action against sites that posted her photos, and her lawyers have demanded that the pics be taken down immediately. McKayla has not expressly indicated that the photos are hers, but it seems implied by her legal complaint. It remains possible that only portions of the photos are actually McKayla. One site that was contacted – the imaginatively titled Porn.com – has issued a statement saying that they removed the images of Maroney immediately upon receiving a letter from her lawyers. Maroney, of course, was part of the US women’s gymnastics team that won gold at 2012 London Olympics. Despite that impressive achievement, she’s perhaps best remembered for the ” McKayla Maroney is Not impressed ” memes that she inspired during a medal ceremony: McKayla Maroney: Not Impressed! 1. Anwan Glover, an actor best known for his role as Slim Charles on The Wire, was stabbed during a nightclub brawl in Washington D.C. early yesterday morning. Anwan Glover: Stabbed! According to The Washington Post, Glover was on the second floor of Cafe Asia when he was punched by a fellow patron. The actor then turned to face this stranger, only to be hit on the back of the head by another individual, causing him to slip on the floor. Glover told authorities that he was kicked multiple times and heard someone shout, “He has a knife!” He then felt a sharp pain in his right side. The 37-year-old actor was taken to George Washington University Hospital and treated for laceration on his torso. It remains unclear what started the fight and/or why these men attacked Glover. Anwar’s rep released a short statement following the incident, saying his client appreciates everyone’s concerns and they they are “helping him get through this.” Glover also appeared in 12 Years a Slave and has participated in anti-violence campaigns away from the camera. His brother died in a 2007 shooting and Glover was reportedly shot 13 times as a child in the Washington’s Columbia Heights area.

Via Boston Globe reports: Gai Scott appeared in Plymouth District Court today to face a charge of armed assault with intent to murder. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf by attorney Jon Ciraulo. Scott, 36, of Randolph is accused of shooting his uncle, Raymond E. Scott, 48, a rapper and reality star known by the stage name of Benzino. “When the dust settles, this case will be shown to be self-defense,’’ Ciraulo said. Gai Scott was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing requested by Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office. The bizarre incident took place on Route 3 South on Saturday. Raymond Scott told the Globe Sunday from his bed at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth that he did not intend to attend his mother’s funeral in order to avoid trouble stemming from a festering family feud. He also said that tension between branches of the Scott family stemmed from Raymond Scott’s belief that his mother’s property and finances were misused by his sister’s family. Scott grew up in Dorchester and was part of a rap group that infuriated Boston police officers in the early 1990s for an anti-police rap. He was a founder of the rap magazine, The Source.
