Q-Tip Explains His Issues With A Tribe Called Quest Documentary

‘It’s not only Tribe’s story; it’s all of ours,’ MC says of his concerns. By Jayson Rodriguez Q-Tip Photo: Mark Von Holden/WireImage Last week, Q-Tip stirred things up online when he tweeted that he was not in support of Michael Rapaport’s A Tribe Called Quest documentary . The MC and the director remained silent on the matter, refusing interview requests from a number of outlets. On Tuesday, however, Q-Tip appeared on satellite-radio station Shade 45’s morning show and explained his message. The veteran lyricist spoke with fill-in host Elliott Wilson of Rap Radar and said his opinion has nothing to do with his group being the focus of the doc, but with his role as a producer. “I’m a producer on this film; Tribe is a producer on this film,” he said. “When I speak, I’m speaking for the whole group. A lot of people think I’m speaking individually, even though I addressed it as ‘I’m not supporting’ it. In reality, as producers, there’s just different things that need to be done, edit-wise. The sentiment of the film is there. We feel like it’s 80 percent here. It’s just not there [all the way].” The Tribe MC said he and his groupmates have a final say over the project, per the agreement they made with Rapaport, an actor and first-time filmmaker. Although Tip wouldn’t specify the exact nature of his discomfort with the project, he said because the project is the first of its kind — “an extensive cinematic documentary about a hip-hop group” — it’s more than just a Tribe issue. “There’s so much riding on this,” he said. “It’s not only Tribe’s story; it’s all of ours. So we got to make sure sh– is down right.” Will you check out the Tribe documentary? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Q-Tip A Tribe Called Quest

First "Monster" Listen: Michael Jackson & 50 Cent!

A new track from Michael Jackson’s posthumous, forthcoming album has just leaked. This time, the late King of Pop teams up with 50 Cent on a “Monster” track. Only literally. That’s the name of the song, which is actually mediocre. At least in our opinion. The first two releases, ” Breaking News ” and ” Hold My Hand ” (featuring Akon) are superior. You tell us, though, after listening here: Michael Jackson Feat. 50 Cent: Monster What do you think of MJ and 50’s “Monster”?

Helen Thomas: Congress, the White House, and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists

Oh boy, Helen Thomas can't keep her big mouth shut. She's exercising her God given right to free speech as if it were going to be taken away tomorrow! *** In a speech that drew a standing ovation, Helen Thomas talked about “the whole question of money involved in politics.” “I can call a president of the United States anything in the book, but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” Thomas said. “No Americans would tolerate that — white-only roads.” “We are owned by propagandists against the Arabs. There's no question about that. Congress, the White House, and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists. No question in my opinion. They put their money where there mouth is…We're being pushed into a wrong direction in every way.”… In her speech to about 300 inside a center in Dearborn, Thomas lashed out at the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying they were built on lies. And she decried bias against Arabs. Who said there are only two acts in American lives? Thomas keeps on going. Here she is in the Detroit Free Press saying that her firing has liberated her to speak the truth about Zionist influence. Apparently she gave a speech in Dearborn, Michigan. John Mearsheimer lately called Dennis Ross an agent for Israel and Thomas calls him a Zionist. Well for god's sake he headed the Jewish People Policy Institute, which is based in Jerusalem. Isn't that a story? This guy is now making our policy? Is Thomas right or is she wrong about Zionist influence? When will the debate really happen? I think the answer is, When Jews come out strongly against Zionism and can show that this is not about Jews, it is about an ideology/mindset/frame that pervades and distorts Jewish life. Of course, the National Chairman of the Jewish-run Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Abraham Foxman is continuing his onging efforts of actually DEFAMING anyone who dares to breach the ultimate taboo. “Helen Thomas has clearly, unequivocally revealed herself as a vulgar anti-Semite,” Foxman said in a statement. “Her suggestion that Zionists control government, finance and Hollywood is nothing less than classic, garden-variety anti-Semitism. This is a sad final chapter to an otherwise illustrious career. Unlike her previous, spontaneous remarks into a camera, these words were carefully thought out and conscious. It shows a prejudice that is deep-seated and obsessive.” added by: maasanova

Alex Da Kid: Dr. Dre Trusted Me With ‘I Need A Doctor’

Producer talks to Mixtape Daily about Eminem-featuring Detox track. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Alex Da Kid Photo: Gabriel Bouys/AFP/Getty Images Behind the Beats: Alex Da Kid At this rate, Alex Da Kid might want to consider changing his name to Alexander Da Great pretty soon. The British beatsmith was nominated for two Grammys this week for his work on B.o.B’s blockbuster hit “Nothin’ On You” and Eminem’s chart-topper “Love the Way You Lie.” He also produced Nicki Minaj’s “Massive Attack.” While he only has a few placements under his belt, the producer has a knack for knocking what he does do out of the park. His next big single comes courtesy of his work with Dr. Dre. The veteran hip-hop producer invited Alex Da Kid to work with him on a track for his forthcoming Detox project, “I Need a Doctor” featuring Eminem. “That was amazing,” ADK told Mixtape Daily about the experience. “He’s one of my favorite producers of all time. Everybody knows how much of a perfectionist he is: He’s been working on his album for 11 years. For him to bring me in, trust me, not micro-manage me, and let me bring what I do to the table, I can’t even describe how that makes me feel.” The song recently arrived online, and on the number, Eminem attempts to turn the tables on his mentor. The MC credited Dre with being one of the people to help him out of his funk the past few years, so on “I Need a Doctor,” Em looks to repay the producer. “It hurts when I see you struggle/ You come to me with ideas/ You say they’re pieces, so I’m puzzled,” Eminem raps on the track. ” ‘Cause the sh– I hear is crazy/ But you’re either getting lazy/ Or don’t believe in you no more/ Seem like your own opinion is not one you can form/ Can’t make a decision/ You keep questioning yourself, second guessing/ It’s almost like you’re begging for my help/ Like I’m your leader; you’re supposed to be my mentor/ I can endure no more/ Don’t you remember who you are?” “I think it’s gonna be huge,” Alex Da Kid said. “It’s just my opinion, but it’s one of my favorite songs that I did and just what it means for hip-hop.” Next Wave of Flav

Taylor Swift Named Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainer of the Year

Katy Perry, James Franco also made the magazine’s list of 2010’s top entertainers. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images What does Taylor Swift have in common with James Franco, Katy Perry and Jon Hamm? Well, they’ve all made Entertainment Weekly ‘s Entertainers of the Year list , along with 10 other celebrities. But, the magazine has singled out Swift for its top prize, Entertainer of the Year. The magazine bestowed the honor on the singer thanks to her many accomplishments in 2010, which included multiple hit singles and Grammy wins, a super-successful tour and the #1 debut of her latest album, Speak Now , which sold more than 1 million copies in its first week alone. Speak Now gained tons of buzz in the weeks leading up to its release thanks to much discussion over which exes Swift might be singing about on the record, a subject that the pop star laughs off in the issue, which hits newsstands Friday. “Sometimes I would laugh because I would see it in print and it would say, ‘This song, which is written about her ex, so-and-so …’ And they would write about it as if it was fact,” she says. “The fact is, I haven’t ever confirmed that any song is about any particular person. There’s something kind of freeing about that. As far as I’m concerned, it’s all still up in the air.” 2010 also saw Swift finally laying to rest Kanye West’s now-infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards interruption by taking the stage at this year’s VMAs to sing her song “Innocent,” in which she extends her forgiveness to the rapper. “I had decided that I didn’t want to perform on the show. Or even go,” she admits. “Then I woke up in the middle of the night and I realized that I had to, and that I wanted to perform that song.” Is Taylor Swift your Entertainer of the Year? Bristol Palin Should’ve Won Dancing With the Stars!

LOL. No, we don’t really believe the above headline. Jennifer Grey is as worthy a Dancing With the Stars champion as they come. But Bristol Palin, for all that was said about her, got kind of a bad rap. Her third-place finish was, in the opinion of many pundits and Palin haters, waaay too high. But was it actually just about right … or not high enough? America’s collective reaction to Bristol’s DWTS run . We’ve talked at length about why she should have gone home sooner, but now, let’s give the girl her due. Here’s a list of reasons Bristol deserved to win it … She improved A LOT this fall, and Jennifer Grey? Kind of a ringer. Brandy and Audrina fans could’ve stepped up too, and did not. She wasn’t a complete stiff. Seriously. She’s no Kate Gosselin . Her scores never led the pack, but were always competitive. She’s not Sarah Palin, and isn’t worthy of that kind of vitriol. Thanks in part to Bristol, Willow Palin went off on Facebook.

Mia Michaels Out As Judge On So You Think You Can Dance. Thank God.

It’s not just American Idol that’s been shaking up the judges’ panel. On Nigel Lythgoe’s other Fox reality show, So You Think You Can Dance , they’ve been hitting puree on the panel for a few seasons now. First they installed director/Miley Cyrus sex device Adam Shankman in the third judges’ chair that had previously been free-floating. Then they booted shrieking Mary Murphy for choreographer Michaels. But now, according to E!, Michaels is dunzo and Murphy is returning, and in my opinion, that’s a good thing.

Lauer to Lisa Murkowski: Will You Stand Up to Republicans Who Want Obama to Fail?

NBC's Matt Lauer, on Thursday's Today show, invited on Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski to applaud her presumptive write-in ballot win over Republican candidate Joe Miller and asked if she would now “stand up against” Republicans “who may feel that the only way for them to succeed” is for Barack Obama to fail. After Lauer went through the perfunctory congratulations, he asked the candidate who failed to win her party's own primary, if she would, essentially, become a thorn in the side of Republicans as seen in the following question: MATT LAUER: You, you talk about governance based on anger or fear. You're a moderate Republican. You've said that you do not pass the purity test that the Tea Party has set out. You said something else. You said, said “I will tell you I'm not one of those who wants Obama to fail.” Will you stand up against other Republicans who may feel that the only way for them to succeed is for the President not to succeed? Lauer also made sure to note that since Sarah Palin endorsed Joe Miller, Murkowski's victory could also be seen as a diminishment of the former Alaskan Governor's “prestige” and “power,” as queried: “There are a lot of other people who are saying you defeated Sarah Palin. She backed Mr. Miller in her home state, put the prestige of her power behind that, that endorsement. How much does this say about her power and impact going forward, in your opinion?” (video after the break) read more

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Determined to Oust Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars

Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be surly, blunt, critical and not politically correct, but it’s just because he’s a serious competitor who wants to win. Period. Despite being demonstrably outclassed by the field week in and week out, Bristol Palin is still waltzing and spinning. Which has Maks’ head spinning. The fact that Bristol the Pistol is even in the top four on Dancing With the Stars has reportedly rankled Chmerkovskiy, who’s partnered with Brandy. Bristol Palin’s surprisingly long stint on Dancing With the Stars has captivated millions. Do not court Maksim Chmerkovskiy among those millions . “Maksim is very emotional and takes this show very seriously, if you haven’t already seen. He really wants to win,” a source says of the Ukrainian pro. “He works extremely hard and finds it depressing when people he thinks aren’t worthy of their current position get further then they possibly should.” He and Brandy are both so competitive and hungry, tensions often rise between them – and they’re allies. Imagine how he feels about Bristol Palin . While acknowledging some bad blood, a source says not to look into the grudge too much: “To say he simply doesn’t like her might be a little much.” “He is more not liking the whole situation of potentially losing to someone who he believes has significantly less talent than himself and Brandy.” What do you think? Can Bristol possibly make it to the final three? If she does, either Brandy, Jennifer Grey or Kyle Massey will have to go home. Bristol was last in scoring Minday, but that matters little, if at all. It comes down to votes. Who are you rooting for on Dancing With the Stars?
