Aubrey O’Day Reveals Name Of Oxygen Reality Show

The singer took to Twitter on New Year’s to make the announcement, two days after a clip of her new song hit the Internet. By James Dinh Aubrey O’Day Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Since her headline-making photo spread for Playboy and her Las Vegas “Peepshow” production , Aubrey O’Day has been remaining quiet as she conjures up plans for a comeback. And with the help of her forthcoming Oxygen reality show , the former Danity Kane singer is intent on showcasing her return to the music scene. Perhaps taking a page from Lady Gaga , the starlet took to Twitter on New Year’s Day to make a big announcement about her new series. “OH My lovely fans… My reality show on Oxygen is called ‘All About Aubrey’!” she tweeted shortly after midnight. With the reality show airing in the coming months, fans can expect to hear lots of new music from the 26-year-old songstress. Her latest musical offering to hit the Internet is sure to make Danity Kane fans squirm, as O’Day has reunited with her former bandmate Aundrea Fimbres for a duet called “Ego Trippin.” A clip of the tune hit the Internet on Thursday. On the retro-sounding number, the “Aubrea” duo team up for some girl power as they take a few stabs at their self-absorbed boyfriends. “Your ego is trippin/ I think you need to bring it down (Turn your ego down)/ Your ego is trippin/ That’s why I don’t want you around (I don’t want you around),” the gals sing together. When MTV News caught up with Ms. O’Day back in October , the singer admitted that viewers can expect to see her in her always honest and blunt glory on the reality series. “Well, Oxygen’s motto is living out loud, so I would say you’re going to see Aubrey O’Day living out loud,” she explained. “I don’t think I’ve not done that, but obviously my voice is a bit outspoken, and I really don’t play by anyone’s rules, so I think you’ll see a lot of that rebellious tendency that I have.” Are you excited to watch ‘All About Aubrey’ and hear more new music from the singer? Lil’ Kim Disses Nicki Minaj Again

The veteran rapper aims profanity-laced tirade at upstart star during a New Year’s Eve show in Massachusetts. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil’ Kim Photo: Taylor Hill/ FilmMagic Hot damn, here we go again! Lil’ Kim hit the stage in Massachusetts on New Year’s Eve and the Queen Bee stung Nicki Minaj once more by lashing out against the upstart lyricist. The diatribe was similar to one Kim unleashed in New York back in November. “I think this other bitch got a song with Keyshia Cole, right,” Kim told the audience at the Hippodrome club on Friday, referencing Cole’s single “I Ain’t Thru” featuring Nicki. “Coming at me and the motherf—in’ other queen, Mary J. Blige. Me and my girl Mary J. Blige about to eat these bitches alive where they won’t even f—ing exist no more and erase their f—ing social security number! We gon’ remind them who the f— we are! I’m not playing with this bitch for 2011. I’m saying, we can rock together but, bitch, you ain’t taking nothing from me!” The spat that began last year looks like it will continue to run into the New Year. Lil’ Kim has spoken out in interviews about Nicki Minaj, revealing that the two were set to collaborate before the veteran rapper felt the newcomer wasn’t paying her proper homage. In an interview with New York hip-hop radio station Hot 97, Lil’ Kim explained how she briefly aligned herself with Cash Money Records — the parent label to Nicki’s recording home, Young Money. While the two were working on projects, they discussed collaborating. Once they began putting a song together, however, Kim suggested that the younger artist got upset over her lack of recognition on the number compared to the one-time Biggie Smalls prot

From Rant to Riches: Angry student tops the list of most watched YouTube videos of 2010

A student’s video rant over an attack on his sister has become YouTube’s most-watched video of the year. Antoine Dodson, who lived in the impoverished neighbourhood of Lincoln Park in Alabama, unleashed an angry, but comical tirade at a local news reporter which has since been turned into a song by a New York duo. Musicians Evan and Michael Gregory transformed Dodson’s words into an auto-tuned song, ‘Bed Intruder’ which has received a total of 61 million hits. Scroll down to watch the ‘Antoine Dodson’ video as well as the others that made the top 10 list Rags to riches: A song based on Antoine Dodson’s furious TV interview became the internet’s most viewed video in 2010 The power of YouTube: Dodson has earned several lucrative advertising offers and has bought a house which he has moved his family into from the run down neighbourhood they lived in The song broke into the top 25 iTunes singles of the week with the Gregorys and Dodson splitting the revenue from the track 50/50. Reaction to the video has earned the flamboyant 24-year-old a deal with computer giant Apple, as well as countless other lucrative advertising offers. The internet star’s official website also calls on people to ‘Help the Dodson family out’ by donating money to their cause. Fourth place: A video from the ‘Annoying Orange’ series had ‘talking fruits’ reenacting the Budweiser ‘Wassup’ commercial that aired during the 2000 SuperBowl His newly found fame and fortune has enabled Dodson to move his family out of the run down neighbourhood they were in and buy a new home for his sister and her children. ‘Blessings come in disguise,’ Mr Dodson said. He also put up for sale a Halloween costume of the outfit he was wearing when he was first interviewed which promptly sold out. YouTube separated commercial music videos from their top-10 list. Man on a horse: The popular Old Spice commercial that captivated viewers this year came in fifth place Otherwise, all the top 10 videos would have been by either Justin Bieber, Shakira, Eminem, Rihanna or Lady Gaga. With more than 406 million views, Bieber’s video for ‘Baby’ trumped all others. The second most-watched video was a made-for-YouTube riff: a parody of Ke$ha’s ‘Tik Tok’ by the musical sketch web series Key of Awesome. More than 50.6 million have watched the mock version of the popular pop song. Bieber fever: This 3-year-old girl hysterically cried at not being able to see teen heartthrob Justin Bieber but was surprised on Jimmy Kimmel’s show with a visit from her idol In the third most-watched video, a potential new pop star was born. In it, 13-year-old Greyson Chance (who has been compared to Bieber) sings Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’ while playing piano at a sixth-grade music recital. His female classmates looked on in awe at their new heartthrob as he stunned them with his rendition of the 2009 hit. A teacher testified afterwards: ‘In my opinion, he just taught Lady Gaga a lesson’. Fourth place is a video from the ‘Annoying Orange’ series where ‘talking fruits’ reenact the Budweiser ‘Wassup’ commercial that aired during the 2000 SuperBowl – but with a clever but sinister twist halfway through. Ken Block’s Gymkhana THREE, Part 2; Ultimate Playground; l’Autodrome The popular Old Spice commercial that captivated viewers this year came in fifth. It didn’t hurt that it involved a half naked man on a horse. Meanwhile, a hysterical man’s description of a double rainbow sighting had many viewers wandering what the man had possibly ingested that made him so happy. This sixth place video was taken at Yosemitebear Mountain. OK Go’s video to ‘This Too Shall Pass’ is a fascinating visual starting off with a domino effect but leading to a complicated Rube Goldberg assemblage that lasts the entirety of the video. The footage of Jimmy Kimmel surprising a delighted 3-year-old Justin Bieber fan with an appearance by her idol was eighth on the list. The initial tape of the toddler crying over not being able to see Bieber was also a big hit after her family uploaded it onto YouTube. The trailer for Twilight Saga: Eclipse got over 17 million fans logging in to watch and a stunt video of rally driver Ken Block speeding around the track rounded up the top ten list. YouTube said it made an exception in its rankings for OK Go’s music video because the band is no longer on a major label. In March, the band left EMI’s Capitol Records to start Paracadute Recordings. Mia Quagliarello, YouTube community manager, noted that several of 2010’s top videos were made by people or companies that attempt to create YouTube videos for a living. YouTube shares advertising revenue with uploaders who are ‘partners.’ Many of the so-called amateurs that helped build YouTube have gone pro. ‘More and more people are seeing YouTube as a place they can make it their career,’ said Ms Quagliarello. ‘We try to give them the tools and the financials to make that happen.’ The top 10 YouTube videos

Tricky Stewart Defends New Michael Jackson Tune, ‘Keep Your Head’

‘This was a record that [MJ] wrote and that he produced. And I just got in there,’ the producer maintains. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by James Lacsina Tricky Stewart Photo: MTV News While detractors of Michael Jackson’s Michael album cry foul over the unfinished material that makes up the bulk of the posthumous project, producer Christopher “Tricky” Stewart is insisting that his contribution to the release was material MJ put together — and finished — himself. In the case of “Keep Your Head Up,” one of the album’s biggest standouts, Stewart told MTV News that the track was not a remake of any kind. Rather, he just added minor additional production flourishes to the number. “The main thing I wanted to do was make sure that Michael would like it,” said Stewart, who has worked with Beyonc

From Town, To Nation, To Dust

By David P Shirk Freedom is more than an ideal. It is a way of life that all who embrace it can live, and prosper under. Morally speaking, it is the only way to live if you wish to be in charge of your own life and all you produce. The more freedom you either abuse or give up, the more government grows to fill in the gap. In short, government is like a fire. Contained and well supervised, it serves its keeper well. Yet people like fire, and all too often perceive its benefit not its danger – living in ignorance of its full capability when it is unleashed. They feel the warmth from it on a cold day, and use it to heat water, and cook. They know that most others use it as well in such small amounts that it is not something to be feared, but rather used for their benefit. Yet one day someone takes their eye off of it. A smoldering ember pops out of the fireplace and starts spreading. Eventually the entire house is consumed, and the owner left destitute. People know that governance of any sort could be for the good – as long as it remained in their control under their watchful eye, and doing only what it was told to do out of well thought out reason. Such a form was held by a small town once. So the townspeople allowed it, and kept it small. Yet one day while they were not using it, they stepped away from it and allowed it to keep burning. Yet while they were away going about their business, the fire decided that it was not burning enough to make everyone warm and happy. So it spread. At first all the people noticed was a small piece of wood missing from each one of their stacks. Upon further investigation, they found one less fortunate enjoying a warm fire in an alley. It turns out that the mayor’s assistant had taken that small bit of wood, and used it to warm the guy who was down on his luck. Some people thought this was wrong – after all, they had always been kind to this man – given him food, a place to sleep when the weather got too bad, and even firewood on days that were just chilly. Others thought that this was great – it saved them the time and effort of dealing with the guy, and at the relatively low cost of a small piece of wood. The general consensus was that it was no big deal. So the next day, the people went about their business again. This time they come back, and another small piece of wood was gone again. They had expected this however, so they did not think anything of it. This went by for a week or so, and they soon became indifferent to it. Then one day they returned and did not even think about the wood anymore. Yet upon entering their homes, some found their cabinets open, some said that the last of their flour was taken, and some their water supply lower than usual. It would have sounded like the whole town was imagining things had fewer people noticed. Once again they investigated, only this time they found that the town hall was warmly lit, and a dozen or so were eating a well set meal. This caused a little more of a stir. The town’s people did not mind feeding a guy who was driven to poverty by a bad fall while working, but most of the others enjoying the food and the fire worked far less than the rest of them. They were impoverished not by an accident, but by the choices they made such as becoming a slave to the bottle or some other bit of nonsense. However the towns people grudgingly gave a little more way, seeing the situation as a distasteful act, but not one enough to get too ruffled over – after all, they still had work to do and their families to go to. The overseer of the provided food and shelter reported later that night to the mayor. He saw his task as not only justified, but morally imperative to any righteous society. He told the mayor that the job was done, but that the townspeople were a little upset by the situation. The mayor asked his opinion, and he responded that the townsmen should be ashamed of themselves – after all, it was only taking their spares and making good use of them. The mayor thought about the matter and concluded that his assistant was correct. However he did not want the matter to get out of hand, so he kept the provided food, fire and temporary shelter as the new norm – not to be added to. However a month passed, and winter was due to set in. As a result, the townspeople had stockpiled more wood on their property. Yet due to the ever diminishing weather, more wood was needed to provide heat for the less fortunate of the town. However the wood was taken nonetheless, with food in just about the same amount. The brutal winter came and went, setting the stage for a very nasty town hall meeting in the early spring. For the most part, most had enough stored for the winter, and sat quiet. Yet there were a few families that the extra taken from them all season long, and that little bit made a world of difference. After spending the last few weeks of winter with a meager fire and little food, they ended up finding themselves in the town hall just to get warm again. One father stood up, and as respectfully as he could, made it known how outrageous this whole thing was. He was immediately answered by the condescending public servant who retorted with comments like ‘How dare you claim to be in the right yet refuse to give to help the needy’. The father lost his composure at that point and yelled back at the official for always having a full belly and warm place to go from his hard work while his family who had earned it had to remain with less. The official smiled and pointed out that maybe so, but the father and his family were both at the town hall with ready food and warmth when they needed it. In the end, the father was exasperated, and once he completely lost his temper, was asked to leave. Once he left no one else had anything to say. They felt for the father, but did not feel like being made out to look like an unreasonable idiot like he had been. So it was decided that the experiment was a success, and would become policy. Long story short, this went on for a generation. There were always complaints, but in the end nothing changed. The next generation had a mayor just like the last. He felt mortified when he found that his official and those under him were not getting paid for gathering the wood and the food. So he implemented a small tax to see that they were compensated. The taxes went the same way as the wood and food had, and despite the complaints, turned into policy. Yet another generation passed and there were still problems. Even worse was that the people had began taking the idea of ‘giving until it hurts’ as a way of life, and the way they used to live was long forgotten (save for the old timers who were labeled as mentally ill anyway). The new mayor seemed consistent in the eyes of the people so they listened to him – after all, they still lived, so what was the wor…. http://www.peacefreedomprosperity.com/?p=3824 added by: shanklinmike

Katy Perry Asks Fans Via Twitter To Help Pick Her Next Single

‘Your voice has been heard! We’re on the same page,’ the singer tweeted over the weekend after fielding requests. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Amy Sussman/ Getty Images With three Teenage Dream tunes already soaring to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, it seems that Katy Perry is planning chart domination once again. The singer took to her Twitter over the weekend to get her fans in on the important decision of which track off her album should be her next single. “PEOPLE u are the reason why I’m here, SO what song off of TEENAGE DREAM do u want to blow up NEXT?!” she tweeted on Sunday. “Put a # next to the song YOU want!” Among the fans who weighed in were some of Perry’s celebrity pals, including Perez Hilton, who made his choice clear when he tweeted , “@katyperry It HAS to be #Peacock! Definitely!!!!” Perry hasn’t divulged the name of the tune she’s chosen, but she did let fans know that there is a clear winner. “Thanks for all your great suggestions for the next single today!” she wrote early Monday morning (December 13). “Your voice has been heard! We’re on the same page…” The single would follow in the footsteps of “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream” and “Firework,” the latter of which just became her latest smash off the release. While no one is sure that Perez’s suggestion of “Peacock” will be the track that’s picked, Perry has talked about the song in the past to MTV News. “With me there are a lot of double entendres,” she said. “There’s a lot of puns. You know, when I learned how to write a song, the person that was kind of teaching me was an amazing songwriter, and he was like, ‘Don’t forget about the double entendres. Don’t forget about the puns. Don’t forget that one word can have two meanings.’ So I’m always kind of looking for that one thing that’s really normal that you can make twisted.” So what song do you think Katy Perry’s next single should be? Bring Back WikiLeaks! (Sign Petition)

We, the undersigned, the people of the United States and of every nation of this world, request you to restore to the Internet the organization/website: Wikileaks.org and to let it continue running as it did for the past four years. We are alarmed by the documentation, videos that have leaked showing injustice, corruption and deception. Although we can't possibly know the full nature/extent of these documents, what we have read, seen and what has been reported, is more than enough to justify our concern. That is more than enough for us to request you to take an immediate action, an impartial investigation to address this injustice and hold the people that perpetrated it accountable! America is the land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE, and we want to keep it that way. We stand up against injustice, human rights and freedom. This is our opinion in regard of Wikileaks.org. This organization represents true journalism, and it is supported by the first Amendment of freedom of press. Nobody denies that some level of secrecy is necessary for the national security and the safety of its people; If this secrecy is used by some as an excuse to hide the wrongdoing, to hide UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACTIONS, if this information exposes corruption, destroys the very principles of justice, human rights, freedom and patriotism which WE STAND FOR, by all means, it needs to be made public and to be addressed. This kind of unlawful secrecy only brings danger to the public peace and to the security of our state. In conclusion: Truth that serves justice has no flags, no boundaries except for justice itself, and if this truth is kept in the dark, has no noble purpose from which the pursuit of happiness and of peace will never be born. Thank you very much. Wikileaks: Anonymous stops dropping DDoS bombs, starts dropping science

Sean Bonner is one of the guys behind Metblogs, Neoteny Labs, Crash Space and has previously been involved with art galleries and record labels of the punk rock variety. If this image is to be believed—and I have no reason not to, other than that I found it on the internet—the rebel squadrons behind Anonymous (attn. “news” hacks – that would be an entirely different group from Wikileaks and/or Wikipedia) are about to change their approach. So far, as we've witnessed, they have been launching point-and-click distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks at companies perceived as the enemies of Wikileaks. Those targets included Mastercard, Paypal, and Visa (companies that froze donation funding), and Amazon (which denied hosting services). The new approach suggests more sophisticated thinking. This new mission, apparently, is to actually read the cables Wikileaks has published and find the most interesting bits that haven't been publicized yet, then publicize them. In my opinion, this action would have far more positive impact. Anonymous often repeats the Orwell quote, “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” Looks like they decided to take those words to heart. http://boingboing.net/2010/12/09/anonymous-stops-drop.html added by: ras_menelik

Eminem, Lady Gaga, Antoine Dodson: MTV News’ Top 25 Songs Explained

The inner torment of crafting the perfect year-end list, in Bigger Than the Sound. By James Montgomery Eminem Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Making lists is a necessary (and, some might say, unnecessarily complicated) component of writing about music, an annual rite of passage that’s as much about personal choice and it is about pure politics. Because no matter how much your favorite writer may protest, he or she always struggles with their year-end list, trying to strike the right balance between their favorite songs or albums and the actual favorites of the record-buying public. It is a dilemma of duty, really: Should the list shine a light on some unjustly overlooked acts (an explicit part of a music journalist’s job) or attempt to make it an accurate representation of the year that was? Do we throw our support behind a small song that’s really, truly great — ignoring the fact that no one heard it — or give in to the notion that a tune downloaded by more than 5 million people had more impact and, therefore, more inherent worth? And, really, how do you even begin to measure something like that in the first place? Then, there are the rather insane (and equally immeasurable) questions every journo is confronted with … stuff like, “What will my worldly contemporaries think of my picks?” (a.k.a. “I should probably put this Senegalese Mbalax compilation at number 10″) or ” ‘Teach Me How to Dougie’ is a terrible song, but even my aunt in Virginia sent me the video, so does that make it one of the year’s best?” Or the fact that, no matter how left-of-center (or right on) a list may be, it’ll still be judged mercilessly by fellow music writers, and their reaction will, by logical extension, also be a judgment on you. Feelings are hurt. Reputations are crushed. Making a list is tougher than you could possibly imagine. So, you can probably understand why, a few months ago, when MTV News began kicking around the idea of doing a Top Songs of 2010 countdown — and opening the process up to the entire newsroom — I was a bit hesitant. In years past, I’d just made my own list and let the chips fall where they may. For better or worse, things were just easier this way. I could blend the indie with the mainstream, balance the massive with the minimal. And, most important, I could defend each and every pick. This year, the idea was much bigger, and the end result (in my opinion, at least) could’ve been much more disastrous: a list that ignored the work of acts like the National, LCD Soundsystem and Robyn in favor of, say, 25 Eminem songs. To me, that didn’t seem particularly accurate — no offense to Em — or worthwhile. But still, we had meetings, we set parameters, and we pressed on. Using a loose set of rules — songs didn’t have to be singles and didn’t even have to be released in 2010, they just had to have made an impact this year, be it commercially, culturally, or critically — we sent out ballots to MTV News’ writers, editors and producers. And then we waited with baited breath. What we received back were lists of delightfully dizzying size and scope: All-in-all, nearly 200 artists (everyone from Adam Lambert to Zola Jesus) and 300 songs made the cut. We began gleefully whittling them down, using nothing more than an inverse point system — the #1 song on each list received 25 points, the #25 song received 1 point — to determine our final list. It was tough (math has never really been our strong suit), but I’m incredibly happy that we did it. Because the end result was, of course, MTV News’ inaugural Top 25 Songs of 2010 list, which began rolling out last week and will conclude on Friday when we unveil our pick for the year’s top song. Like pretty much everything else about the list — Katy Perry at #11 , aforementioned Eminem at #9 and Robyn at #6 — our #1 will surprise a lot of people. And, ultimately, I think that’s what any good list should do. We’ve already heard the complaints from Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters and Eminem’s Stans and gotten kudos from folks who love the National and Robyn, which leads me to believe that we’ve done our job. … We managed to make a list full of songs by artists both big and small, yet all impactful in some way. It is, IMHO, a true representation of the year that was. The numbers don’t lie, no matter how angry the Em fans might be about it. To keep the conversation going, we’ve begun rolling out some of our staffers’ personal lists on the Newsroom Blog and, in the interest of transparency, I’m going to reveal my list right now. This is the one I submitted to MTV News’ countdown, and as you can tell, I had all the internal debates I mentioned earlier. I played politics and threw some personal picks in there. (I’ll be honest, by putting Titus Andronicus at #1, I was secretly hoping they’d crack MTV’s Top 25.) I hemmed and hawed and finally just had to hit ‘Send’ and be done with the whole thing. As you can see, neither Eminem nor Ke$ha made my list — but Antoine Dodson did. Maybe I should’ve changed that. Maybe I still will. Making lists is hard work … but it’s also work I’ll never tire of doing. My Top 25 Songs of 2010 : 1. Titus Andronicus, “Four Score and Seven” 2. Robyn, “Hang With Me” 3. Usher “OMG” 4. Lady Gaga, “Telephone” 5. Rick Ross, “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast)” 6. Kanye West, “Power” 7. The National, “England” 8. Big Boi, “Shutterbugg” 9. Cee Lo, “F— You” 10.
