Kermit The Frog Pitches ‘Muppets’ Special Features

By Josh Wigler Walter and Kermit the Frog Photo: MTV News It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights! It’s time to meet “The Muppets,” available on Blu-ray this Tuesday (March 20)! OK, our rhyming skills could use some work, clearly. Perhaps it’s best to leave those kinds of hijinks to the Muppets themselves. Thankfully for all of us, we did just that when Kermit the Frog and Walter , the newest member of the pint-sized gang, swung by the MTV Newsroom last week to tell us all about their imminent home-video release. According to the frog and his new pal, “The Muppets” comes with all sorts of special features, some that you normally wouldn’t think to mention when pitching Blu-ray and DVD discs to the folks at home. “You can rewind it. You can hit play. You can pause,” Kermit offered not so helpfully when we asked him about some of the features we’ll find on the “Muppets” Blu-ray. “Another thing I want to tell you: One special feature about Blu-ray is that you can use it as a coaster, and it’ll still play. It works very well!” On a more serious note — as serious as things get with Kermit and Walter, that is — the Blu-ray comes packed with extra features including an intermission sequence that’s activated when the viewer hits pause. “The intermission is great,” Kermit gushed. “We all jump in and do silly things for you during the intermission … and we’ve never done silly things before!” The coming “Muppets” release also hosts some deleted scenes, including one that expands upon the film’s villain, Tex Richman, and his reasons for hating the Muppets so darn much. “It’s this whole big music video,” Walter explained. “In the final cut of the film, you just see a couple of minutes. But on the DVD, you get the whole shebang!” Though this week’s home-video release is the next place you’ll be able to see the Muppets, it won’t be their last appearance. Both Kermit and Walter are quite convinced that further adventures are coming our way very soon. In fact, Walter’s already pitching sequels! “One script I’m pitching now: ‘Extremely Short and Incredibly Cute,’ ” he joked. “We feel certain there will be another movie,” Kermit said. “And who knows? We might have the opportunity to bring something back like ‘The Muppet Show.’ That would be fun! Lindsay Lohan shot an interview with Matt Lauer for Today this morning (it airs Thursday) to promote her SNL appearance, and it was a no-holds-barred sit-down. Of course, she repeated many of the same talking points as a year ago, when she also sat down with Lauer and professed that she had her $h!t together. Ouch. Excerpts from what LiLo had to say this time around: On partying hardcore : “It’s not my thing anymore. I went out, actually, a few months ago with a friend. And I was so uncomfortable. Not because I felt tempted, just because it was just the same thing that it always was before.” “And it just wasn’t fun. I’ve become more of a homebody. I like that.” On whether she was in denial last year : “Definitely and I think it was … it’s a scary thing to have to kind of express to people … I wasn’t as comfortable with myself then.” “I think it was a fear factor that I had. I had to get that wakeup call.” On whether the industry can trust her : “I think that takes time. I think that it’s actions. People can say things all they want, but I still need to go through the process of proving myself … keeping my – can’t say the word – but stuff together.” On using SNL to clear her name : “I don’t want people to have that reason to be scared anymore. So being able to have this opportunity with SNL , I’m just gonna do what I’m supposed to do, and enjoy doing it, and do it as best as I can.” On her role in the Elizabeth Taylor biopic : “We’re in the middle of casting and figuring, we start production soon. I’ve been doing tons of research. But I’ve always kind of researched her. She’s always been a fascinating woman to me.” “I’m really honored. And I will not let anyone down, especially myself.” Basically, Lindsay Lohan is now the epitome of a straight-arrow homebody, according to Lindsay Lohan. What do you think? Jennifer Garner And Ben Affleck Welcome A Son

Samuel is the Hollywood power couple’s third child. By Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have welcomed their first son into the world. Garner gave birth to the couple’s third child in Santa Monica, California, this week. “We are happy to announce on February 27, Jennifer gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Samuel Garner Affleck,” Ben shared on his Facebook page Wednesday, after reports surfaced that his two daughters Seraphina, 3, and Violet, 6, would now have a baby brother. Garner and Affleck announced the pregnancy in August 2011. At the time, insiders shared that it had always been in the couple’s plan to have three kids. “I would have thought [he wanted a boy]. At first … I really thought so,” Garner said in an interview with Jay Leno in January. “And then [Ben] kind of said, ‘Well, we have girls. We know how to do girls. My girls love me. I’m the big guy in the house.’ So now I’m not sure.” Meanwhile, in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show, Garner called the possibility of having a boy “cool and different,” adding, “It would be so weird to have a boy.” Garner spoke to Us Weekly in 2011 about how she manages to balance work and family. “You have to have a great nanny, and you have to have a supportive husband,” Garner said. “We figure it out day by day. It’s always messy, and it’s never as glamorous as people think it is, but we get through, and as long as the kids are happy, it’s all good.” As for fatherhood, in an interview back in 2008, Affleck said that he hoped he’s a good dad. “I hope so. I think we all like to see ourselves as good dads, but there’s also that fear, ‘Oh, I don’t want to be like my father,’ or, ‘I hope my kid doesn’t turn out like me.’ You know, I have those feelings too,” he told the U.K.’s Mirror. “So the key is optimism.” Share your well-wishes for the parents in the comments below!

U2’s Edge And MTV Spotlight Homeless Youth In Documentary ‘The Break’

Program executive produced by U2 guitarist airs on MTV March 2 at 8 p.m. By MTV News Staff U2 guitarist the Edge has addressed many social issues through music. He tackles a new epidemic — the growing number of homeless youth — in the MTV documentary “The Break,” for which he serves as executive producer. “The Break” premieres Friday, March 2, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Today, over 1.5 million youth in America have found themselves living in various states of homelessness stemming from all sorts of circumstances. “The Break” introduces viewers to three young people who refuse to give in to the despair and overwhelming weight that landing on the outskirts of society has placed upon them. The documentary delves deep into the journeys of these three young individuals as they take steps to rebuild their lives once they are provided with the tools and guidance necessary to emerge out of homelessness and rejoin society. First, viewers will meet Nancy, a 20-year-old woman who was involved in abusive relationships and has been homeless for two years. Nancy will need to regain her independence and change the behavior that has held her back throughout her life. Then viewers will be introduced to Rob, a talented drummer who came to New York with dreams of becoming a star. After a downward spiral, Rob will have to clean up his act in order to get a fresh start and rebuild his life. Lastly, Ava ran away from her conservative home after clashing with her family over her lesbian lifestyle. With the opportunity to receive training and experience, the academically gifted young woman will be inspired to pursue her dream of becoming a police detective. Providing the trio with support is Anne Mahlum, the founder and CEO of the nonprofit Back on My Feet. The organization uses running as a vehicle to promote the self-sufficiency of the homeless population, providing them with support and resources to help them get closer to their goals. Back on My Feet helps Ava, Nancy and Rob finally have access to the opportunities to create functional, healthy lifestyles. Daphne Dortch on The Biggest Loser Elimination: So Glad That’s Over!

Daphne Dortch shook up The Biggest Loser last week and paid the ultimate price for it. But she has no regrets, in fact, she says she’s glad to be outta there. When presented with the opportunity to change the composition of the red and black teams, Dortch ate over 1,800 calories to guarantee she’d have control. “I ate the [peanut butter cups] because I wanted to stay with [my trainer Bob],” Dortch told reporters after her elimination. Then the ish hit the fan though. After gaining the power, Dortch chose to switch her teammate Jeremy for his sister Conda, whom she blamed for evicting her brother Adrian two weeks ago. “It was very personal,” she said of that decision. “I switched them out of revenge but I had no idea the house was going to be devastated by the switch.” Dortch and her brother joined the teams on the Ranch a month into the season after losing a combined 50 lbs. at home, but were not greeted with open arms. “We never had a chance,” she said of returning to the Ranch. “They had already bonded for a month before we even got there. I think it came down to that.” Her brother Adrian was rejected by his teammates, but Dortch says her black team “may have appeared to have accepted me but I don’t think they ever did.” “They were just very quiet about it.” “A part of me was extremely relieved to be sent home,” she continued. “It doesn’t feel good to be in a house of people where no one likes you and talks to you.” Now back at home in Evanston, Ill., Dortch, a mother of three, is making major changes in her life as well. Given all she’s gone through, her story resonates. “I am 37-years-old and I was living at home with my parents – not because I didn’t have the money but because I was living in fear. I thought every day I was going to die,” said Dortch , who suffers from atrial fibrillation and sleep apnea. But Dortch has now moved with her children into a house of her own. “I’ve already won The Biggest Loser because I don’t need to have someone here in order for me to go to sleep,” she said, having lost over 70 lbs. now. “I [feel] like Dorothy. I feel like it was in me all along. I just had to do it.”

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer Delivers Action, Laughs

The friendly neighborhood wall-crawler swung into action early Tuesday (February 7) with a brand-new trailer for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” director Marc Webb’s reboot of the flagship Marvel superhero. Although we were afforded the opportunity to see the world from Spidey’s own perspective in the last preview — quite literally, in fact — we honestly get an even better sense of what Webb is going for with his take on the “Spider-Man” franchise in this latest spot. From web-shooters to reptilian rampages, there’s a lot to cover in the newest look at “Spider-Man,” so MTV Movies Managing Editor Josh Horowitz and MTV Splash Page Editor Josh Wigler used their combined spider-senses to dive into the “Amazing” new trailer. Swing Away We’ve known about the return of Spider-Man’s web-shooters for a while now. But knowing and seeing are very different things — and yes, we like what we see, very much! The red-light visual cue of the shooters paired with mechanical sound effects is magic for the eyes and music to our ears. And actually seeing Spidey webbing around New York City — perhaps it’s early, but “Amazing” looks to have the best web-slinging of any Spider-Man movie to date. Lighten Up Andrew Garfield is funny. Peter Parker is hilarious. But based on the first teaser, we weren’t sure that Garfield’s Parker would be in on the joke. Well, we were wrong! The “Social Network” actor shows his Spidey knowhow in this new trailer, cracking wise against criminals and spinning them up all the same. “Amazing” looks like a darker Spider-Man than the films we’ve seen before, sure, but there’s room for levity. Garfield seems to fully understand that, and we’re tremendously relieved. The Untold Story The new secret origin of Peter Parker remains mystifying. It seems that the disappearance of Peter’s parents early in his childhood isn’t just a peripheral plot point, but perhaps even at the core of how and why Peter becomes Spider-Man. It’s a curious move likely to leave both casual and die-hard fans scratching their heads, at least for now. The new trailer doesn’t clear things up much, so we’ll have to wait until July to see how this mysterious web unravels. Nolan-esque Marc Webb gets characters. He gets emotion. Anyone who saw “(500) Days of Summer” knows this. Now we know he gets action as well. Web-slinging aside, the scene of maskless Spidey going toe-to-toe against a pack of cops is a brilliantly executed piece of action and gives us lots of confidence that Webb knows what he’s doing in the fisticuffs department. Dare we say it, we even got a “Dark Knight” vibe from that scene. King Koopa The Lizard remains a divisive issue, even after this trailer. He’s only seen in bits and pieces, but the few glimpses leave something to be desired. Hopefully the final FX work will make a difference. That said, looks aside, the sheer size and scale of the Lizard is something to admire. It holds great potential for some spectacular skyscraping scraps between Spidey and his reptilian nemesis, and we’re holding out hope that the epic battles compensate for lackluster creature design.
