Louisville International Airport To Be Named After Muhammad Ali

Read the original here:

T he late legendary boxer and social activist Muhammad Ali will receive a major honor from his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. According to the Courier Journal , the city will rename Louisville International Airport after Ali. Muhammad Ali's Kentucky hometown will honor the boxing champion by renaming its airport for him. He would have turned 77 Thursday. https://t.co/9PUbEklUHL — ABC 7 News – WJLA (@ABC7News) January 17, 2019 The push to have the airport renamed after the boxer began in 2017, the news outlet writes. The plan was recently approved by the Louisville Regional Airport Authority board. Once airport officials finalize the plan with Muhammad Ali Enterprises LLC within the next few weeks, the project will officially be brought to fruition. The renaming is a part of a $100 million plan to improve the airport. Within the span of three to five years, the airport will get a new terminal, walkways, elevators and jet ways. Officials are aiming to have the airport renamed by June, which will mark three years since he passed away. “We felt a clear takeaway was that the profile of our city could be greatly enhanced by associating Ali’s name with our airport,” said Louisville Regional Airport Authority board member Dale Boden . He also shared that the city is making a major effort to illustrate how Ali was embedded in the fabric of Louisville through different tributes. Ali’s loved ones are excited about the airport renaming. “I am happy that visitors from far and wide who travel to Louisville will have another touch point to Muhammad and be reminded of his open and inclusive nature, which is reflective of our city,” his widow Lonnie Ali told the news outlet. “Muhammad was a global citizen, but he never forgot the city that gave him his start. It is a fitting testament to his legacy.” News about the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport comes just weeks after it was revealed that at-large Councilwoman Sharon Hurt is fighting to have Nashville International Airport named after media mogul Oprah Winfrey . Oprah Responds To The Old Video Where She Calls Out A Guest For Her Unseasoned Chicken

More here:

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Oprah Winfrey is serious about her seasoning and speaking her truth. An absolutely hilarious clip resurfaced and went viral recently, and it comes from a 2006 episode of her talk show when she had on Pillsbury Bake-Off prize recipient Anna Ginsberg . Anna won $1 million for her chicken recipe, so of course, Oprah had to taste it to see what the hype was all about–but unfortunately for the chef….she wasn’t really feeling it. I often think about the time Oprah did a cooking segment with a woman whose chicken recipe won $1 million, and Oprah's jaw dropped when she tasted it and realized the lady didn't even add seasoning pic.twitter.com/rfs7PS1Jc3 — Spencer Althouse (@SpencerAlthouse) December 9, 2018 The host’s jaw dropped once she tasted the million dollar chicken and realized there was no seasoning on it.  After a long pause, Oprah says, “I do like it…I like it very much. I think, did we add salt and pepper? I think we needed salt and pepper.” When Ginsberg revealed that the recipe doesn’t include either of those ingredients, the audience erupts with laughter. And just when the internet thought this awkward moment couldn’t get any better, Oprah came through to respond to this now-viral clip, revealing how she really felt once she tasted Anna’s $1 million dollar dish. In a video posted to The Oprah Magazine’s Instagram, the woman herself decided to let us all know what was going through her head while trying to craft a response to what she was tasting back in 2006. She starts by responding to Spencer, the one who initially tweeted out the clip saying, “Okay, Spencer, I don’t know whatever made you pull that tape out of the vault, but, made me laugh.” Oprah continued saying, “I always wanted anybody who came on the show, no matter what they did, to have a good experience. And I also wanted to stay in my own truth while allowing them to have that good experience. I was having a moment of trying to decide, Do I want her to have a great time? What is my real moment of truth? Because the truth for me was that I am used to having salt and pepper on my chicken. That’s just the truth. That’s what I was thinking: this chicken needs some salt and pepper.” Well, you heard Oprah! Speak your truth, even if it’s going to embarrass somebody on national TV.

Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow & Adrienne Banfield-Norris Stun In New ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ Cover Shoot

Source: Gilbert Carrasquillo / Getty The ‘Red Table Talk’ Women & Creators Discuss Oprah, Being Vulnerable & The Success Of The Show Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris continue to bring all the feels with their new digital cover story for Harper’s Bazaar.  The three generations of women discuss the purpose behind their hit Facebook show  Red Table Talk  and they give gorgeous lewks in the process.   Along with their beautiful fashion spread, the three women give a lot of insight on why they think they’ve resonated with people on their show. Willow attributed it vulnerability: “Obviously we’re in a patriarchal society that looks down on vulnerability and looks down on emotion and looks down on femininity,” Willow said. “The biggest rebellion is coming into your vulnerability and seeing that as a power. Once you get in touch with your emotions, you start to understand things in a whole other way. When you express what you feel needs to change, or what you feel is unfair or wrong, that’s so important, but the real agent of change is when you embody the truth.” Even Red Table Talk ‘s executive producer Ellen Rakieten , who worked on the Oprah Winfrey Show for 23 years, said Red Table  gave her a special reminder of her former boss. “Since my time with Oprah, many, many people have come to me saying, ‘I want to be the next Oprah.’ Well, that’s not going to happen,” Rakieten said, believing she never felt it with anyone else. “When I left my first interaction with Jada, I was like, ‘Oh,  oh .’ I had that feeling.”   You can check out more shared moments and beautiful photos over at Harper’s Bazaar !

Flawless! Michelle Obama Slays In Dior For December’s ELLE Cover

Source: Tom Williams / Getty Former First Lady Michelle Obama is serving up a serious lewk on the December issue of ELLE Magazine ! Rocking a Dior Poplin shirt, pleated-voile skirt and leather corset, our #ForeverFLOTUS looks like a stunning queen. Just take a look for yourself: Amazing! The Harvard and Princeton educated lawyer was interviewed by none other than iconic journalist and talk show host Oprah Winfrey . In a deeply personal and enlightening interview, the two discussed a range of topics including her memoir, overcoming her marriage issues with counseling and how Donald Trump’s birther conspiracies impacted her family. When asked was she scared about sharing so much of her personal life with the public, Mrs. Obama surprisingly replied that she wasn’t. “Actually, no, because here’s the thing that I realized: People always ask me, ‘Why is it that you’re so authentic?’ ‘How is it that people connect to you?” And I think it starts because I like me. I like my story and all the bumps and bruises. That’s what makes me uniquely me.: Adding, “So I’ve always been open with my staff, with young people, with my friends. And the other thing, Oprah: I know that whether we like it or not, Barack and I are role models.”   On how she had to learn to love differently to keep her marriage intact: “I had to learn to love differently, I feel vulnerable all the time, and I had to learn how to express that to my husband, to tap into those parts of me that missed him — and the sadness that came from that — so that he could understand. He didn’t understand distance in the same way. You know, he grew up without his mother in his life for most of his years, and he knew his mother loved him dearly, right? I always thought love was up close. Love is the dinner table, love is consistency, it is presence. So I had to share my vulnerability and also learn to love differently. It was an important part of my journey of becoming. Understanding how to become us…I share this because I know that people look to me and Barack as the ideal relationship. I know there’s #RelationshipGoals out there. But whoa, people, slow down — marriage is hard!” On Trump’s dangerous rhetoric about former President Obama: “Because I don’t think he knew what he was doing. For him it was a game. But the threats that you face as the commander in chief are real. And your children are at risk. In order for my children to have a normal life, even though they had security, they were in the world in a way that we weren’t. To think that some crazed person might be ginned up to think my husband was a threat to the country’s security; and to know that my children, every day, had to go to a school, and soccer games, parties, and travel; to think that this person would not take into account that this was not a game—that’s something that I want the country to understand. I want the country to take this in, in a way I didn’t say out loud, but I am saying now. It was reckless, it put my family in danger, and it wasn’t true. And he knew it wasn’t true.”   On no longer living in the White House and the simple freedoms that come with that: So here I am in my new home, just me and Bo and Sunny, and I do a simple thing. I go downstairs and open the cabinet in my own kitchen—which you don’t do in the White House because there’s always somebody there going, ‘Let me get that. What do you want? What do you need?’—and I made myself toast. Cheese toast. Then I took my toast and I walked out into my backyard. I sat on the stoop, and there were dogs barking in the distance, and I realized Bo and Sunny had really never heard neighbor dogs.   On holding up Barack and combatting the pressures that came with the being the first Black family in the White House: “Trying to be the calm in his swerve. You know, when the leaves are blowing and the wind is rough, being a steady trunk in his life. Family dinners. That was one of the things I brought into the White House—that strict code of, You gotta catch up with us, dude. This is when we’re having dinner. Yes, you’re president, but you can bring your butt from the Oval Office and sit down and talk to your children. Because children bring solace. They let you turn your sights off the issues of the day and focus on saving the tigers. That was one of Malia’s primary goals; she advocated throughout his presidency to make sure the tigers were saved. And hearing about what happened with what school friend. Immersing yourself in the reality and the beauty of your children and your family. Plus, on the East Wing side, our motto was, we have to do everything excellently. If we do something—because the First Lady doesn’t  have  to do anything.”   On the importance of remaining optimistic in these tumultuous times: “Yes. We have to feel that optimism. For the kids. We’re setting the table for them, and we can’t hand them crap. We have to hand them hope. Progress isn’t made through fear. We’re experiencing that right now. Fear is the coward’s way of leadership. But kids are born into this world with a sense of hope and optimism. No matter where they’re from. Or how tough their stories are. They think they can be anything because we tell them that. So we have a responsibility to be optimistic. And to operate in the world in that way.” Just amazing and inspiring! Read the ELLE cover article in its entirety here .
