Former WikiLeaks Staffer to Launch Alternative OpenLeaks Today

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A former staff member of WikiLeaks said he will launch a new alternative website that he promises will be more transparent than WikiLeaks. Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the former deputy to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he will launch Openleaks ( www.openleaks.org ) Monday in an effort to aid anonymous sources expose sensitive information to the public eye. As of this morning, the website displays nothing more than the Openleaks logo with the message “Coming soon!” The new website will be launched on Monday from its Germany headquarters as part of a board of directors-run, undisclosed foundation, said reporter Jesper Huor in a documentary by Swedish broadcaster SVT that will be aired on Sunday. “Openleaks is a technology project that is aiming to be a service provider for third parties that want to be able to accept material from anonymous sources,” Domscheit-Berg said in interviews conducted in Berlin. Domscheit-Berg said he left WikiLeaks after a falling out with Assange over the lack of transparency in the organization's decision-making process. In an interview with OWNI technology website, Domscheit-Berg declined to further elaborate on his dispute with Wikileaks but said that “in these last months, the organization has not been open any more, it lost its open-source promise.” He added that Openleaks intends on providing a vehicle to publish leaked materials without taking on a publisher role itself. “If you preach transparency to everyone else you have to be transparent yourself. You have to fulfill the same standards you expect from others, and I think that's where we've not been heading in the same direction philosophically anymore,” said Domscheit-Berg in the documentary. Domscheit-Berg said he had issues with the way WikiLeaks handled larger leaks, including the 400,000 classified US war files from Iraq and 76,000 from Afghanistan from earlier this year. He said that it would have been wiser for WikiLeaks to publish these documents “slowly, step by step, to grow the project.” The launch of Openleaks comes after mounting speculation about the existence of copycat sites of the controversial site. Meanwhile, both WikiLeaks and Assange continue to face pressure after the site published 250,000 secret US diplomatic cables last month. Financial institutions such as Swiss Postfinance, Mastercard, Visa and Pay Pal have cut off the means for people to send donations to WikiLeaks, while Assange has been imprisoned in the UK and faces extradition to Sweden on sex crime allegations. added by: ras_menelik

One-Sided CNN Omits Conservatives From Prop 8, Gay Teen Coverage

CNN continued its one-sided coverage of homosexual issues with two segments on Monday's Newsroom which featured only liberal activists. Anchor Kyra Phillips endorsed the work of Kamora Harrington and her “True Colors” group , which “organizes the largest LGBT youth conference in the country.” Correspondent Dan Simon played a sound bite from one of the opponents of Prop 8 without playing any from supporters. Phillips led her segment with Harrington, which began 38 minutes into the 10 am EST, by hyping the apparently dire situation with homosexual teens: “Gay bullying, gay suicides- they're sad stories that we keep hearing over and over again. But if the anecdotes weren't enough, there is a pair of new studies detailing just how hard it is to grow up gay.” After playing a clip from a student discussion group which her guest regularly holds, the anchor turned to her and gave her first hint that she endorsed her organization's work: read more

GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING: The History of Health Tyranny: Codex Alimentarius, part 1

http://globalpoliticalawakening.blogspot.com/2010/11/history-of-health-tyranny-c… Contrary to popular belief Codex Alimentarius is neither a law nor a policy. It is in fact a functioning body, a Commission, created by the Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization under the direction of the United Nations. The confusion in this regard is largely due to statements made by many critics referring to the “implementation” of Codex Alimentarius as if it were legislation waiting to come into effect. A more accurate phrase would be the “implementation of Codex Alimentarius guidelines,” as it would more adequately describe the situation. Codex is merely another tool in the chest of an elite group of individuals whose goal is to create a one world government in which they wield complete control. Power over the food supply is essential in order to achieve this. As will be discussed later, Codex Alimentarius will be “implemented” whenever guidelines are established and national governments begin to arrange their domestic laws in accordance with the standards set by the organization. The existence of Codex Alimentarius as a policy-making body has roots going back over a hundred years. The name itself, Codex Alimentarius, is Latin for “food code”[1] and directly descended from the Codex Alimentarius Austriacus, a set of standards and descriptions of a variety of foods in the Austria-Hungarian Empire between 1897 and 1911.[2] This set of standards was the brainchild of both the food industry and academia and was used by the courts in order to determine food identity in a legal fashion. Even as far back as 1897, nations were being pushed toward harmonization of national laws into an international set of standards that would reduce the “barriers to trade” created by differences in national laws.[3] As the Codex Alimentarius Austriacus gained steam in its localized area, the idea of having a single set of standards for all of Europe began to pick up steam as well. From 1954-1958, Austria successfully pursued the creation of the Codex Alimentarius Europaeus (the European Codex Alimentarius). Almost immediately the UN directed FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) sprang into action when the FAO Regional Conference for Europe expressed the desire for a global international set of standards for food. The FAO Regional Conference then sent a proposal up the chain of command to the FAO itself with the suggestion to create a joint FAO/WHO programme dealing with food standards. The very next year, the Codex Alimentarius Europeaus adopted a resolution that its work on food standards be taken over by the FAO. In 1961, it was decided by the WHO, Codex Alimentarius Europaeus, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the FAO Conference to create an international food standards programme known as the Codex Alimentarius.[4] In 1963, as a result of the resolutions passed by these organizations two years earlier, Codex Alimentarius was officially created.[5] Although created under the auspices of the FAO and the WHO, there is some controversy regarding individuals who may or may not have participated in the establishment of Codex. Many anti-Codex organizations have asserted that Nazi war criminals, Fritz Ter Meer[6] and Hermann Schmitz[7] in particular, were principal architects of the organization. Because many of these claims are made with only indirect evidence, or no evidence at all, one might be tempted to disregard them at first glance. However, as the allegations gain more and more adherents, Codex has attempted to refute them. In its Frequently Asked Questions section, Codex answers the question, “Is it true that Codex was created by a former war criminal to control the world food supply?”[8] It then goes on to answer the charges by stating: No. It is a false claim. You just need to type the words “Codex Alimentarius” in any search engine and you will find lots of these rumors about Codex. Usually the people spreading them will give no proof but will ask you to send donations or to sign petitions against Codex. Truthful information about Codex is found on the Internet – there is nothing to hide from our side – we are a public institution working in public for the public – we are happy if people want to know more about our work and ask questions. There is an official Codex Contact Point in each member country who will be pleased to answer your questions on Codex.[9] But, as one can see from the statement above, Codex’s response does very little to answer this question beyond simply disagreeing with it. While it is true that many individuals who make this claim provide little evidence for it, the presentation of the information does not necessarily negate its truthfulness. In fact, Codex offers its own website as a source for accurate information about the organization; yet, beyond the FAQ section, there is nothing to be found that is relevant to the “war criminal” allegations. Furthermore, the codexalimentarius.net website is virtually indecipherable, almost to the point of being completely useless. In the end, this response raises more questions than it answers. This is because Codex, if it wanted, could put these rumors to rest by simply posting a list of the individuals and organizations that funded or played an integral role in its creation. However, it does nothing of the sort. Beyond mentioning the FAO and the WHO, we are completely unaware of who or how many other individuals and organizations participated in the creation of Codex Alimentarius. Daniel Radcliffe Sees Hope After Gay Teen Suicides

‘Deathly Hallows’ star tells MTV News that tragic recent events have given way to ‘more publicity’ and ‘more awareness.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News Daniel Radcliffe has long proven to be a dedicated activist when it comes to crisis support and suicide prevention for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youths. He taped a public-service announcement for the Trevor Project and has spoken out on issues ranging from bullying to the importance of acceptance. The 21-year-old actor tells MTV News he’s watched in horror as a wave of gay teen suicides has swept the country, but he sees some cause for hope in the wake of these tragedies. “The attention and the more publicity and the more awareness that can be raised by everybody — it is such a good cause and such an important thing,” the “Harry Potter” star said. Radcliffe has also been pleased to see how messages conveyed by campaigns like “Love is Louder” and “It Gets Better” have cropped up in recent weeks in response to the suicides, transcending matters of sexuality to encompass all of those who’ve experienced persecution. “What’s interesting to me is it has taken on a wider meaning than just the Trevor Project and just people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered,” he explained. “It’s taken on, for everyone who has ever felt victimized or ostracized by the people in their class or in their community, it’s taken on a wider meaning, which I think is amazing.” The Trevor Project was inspired by the story of a gay teen who attempted to take his own life, and Radcliffe is heartened to see similar tragedy-into-opportunity activism springing forth from recent events. “It is, I think, indicative of the spirit of the organization that is the Trevor Project, that out of such tragic circumstances as we’ve seen over the last few months, they are managing to push forward to a brighter solution to this problem,” he said. Do you think initiatives like “It Gets Better” and “Love Is Louder” are helping to spread awareness? Tell us in the comments. Afghanistan War will cost at least another $60 billion, at least…

The war in Afghanistan may cost another $60 billion dollars and last ten more years, even if U.S. forces start leaving the country in 2011, potential Libertarian presidential candidate R. Lee Wrights said today. A NATO training-mission document recently uncovered by the Associated Press estimated it would cost about $6 billion dollars a year to train Afghani military and police forces. Gen. David Petraeus, the new commander in Afghanistan, has said that a successful counter-insurgency operation could last another ten years. “That means this war will cost at least another $60 billion to finish a job we never should have started,” said R. Lee Wrights. “No wonder our country is going broke.” Even with the training the NATO document acknowledges that Afghanistan will remain largely dependent on U.S. forces for security for years. The document also includes plans for large-scale infrastructure projects for “establishing enduring institutions” and “creating irreversible momentum” according to the AP. “The only 'irreversible momentum' we're creating is the irreversible momentum driving America deeper and deeper into debt,” Wrights said. “And the only 'enduring institutions' we're creating is the enduring institution of a welfare-warfare State that supports corrupt governments under the guise of fighting terrorism.” Wrights said he's troubled by comments Petraeus has made about the withdrawal of American troops, which is supposed to begin in July 2011. “He seems to be hedging his bets,” Wrights said. After nine years of war, Petraeus said that it is just now that the United States has the organization and people in place to fight a counter-insurgency operation. “The general is reputed to be an expert on this type of warfare and has said it can take years, even decades, to wage successfully,” Wrights says. “So if we are just getting started now, it could take ten more years to 'finish the job.' That's unacceptable.” Wrights is also troubled by the fact that the general refers to July 2011 as the date “when a process begins, the pace of which is determined by conditions on the ground.” Petraeus characterized the process as a “thinning out” of U.S. forces, rather than a “turning over” of security for their own country to Afghanistan’s citizens and authorities. “We have already endured one war where the generals and politicians kept telling us they were seeing the 'light at the end of the tunnel,' but that light never got any closer,” Wrights said. Petraeus recently spoke out against plans by a Florida minister to burn the Qur'an, saying that the action would put American troops in danger. “What is a greater danger to American soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen is keeping them in a war we should not have started in the first place, helping prop up a corrupt government,” Wrights said. “If we truly want to keep our troops safe, we should bring them home now.” Wrights is considering seeking the LP presidential nomination because he believes the Libertarian message in 2012 should be a loud, clear and unequivocal call to stop all war. He has pledged that 10 percent of all donations to his campaign will be spent for ballot access so that the stop all war message can be heard in all 50 states. Wrights, who was born in Winston-Salem, is a writer and political activist living in Texas. He is the co-founder and editor of the free speech online magazine Liberty For All. http://www.examiner.com/libertarian-in-raleigh/afghan-war-will-cost-another-60-b… added by: shanklinmike

Tea party group announces anonymous $1 million donation

An anonymous donor has directed $1 million to the Tea Party Patriots to be used on this year's elections, the organization announced Tuesday, according to a report by Slate's David Weigel. “If you have a lawn, you water it, you tend to it, you weed it. That's what's happening here. And it is unique. I can't think of anything quite like it happening before,” former Republican Rep. Ernie Istook, a new adviser to the Patriots, said during Tuesday morning's news conference announcing the gift. The organization's 2,800 local tea party groups will be eligible to apply for the grant money, organization founders Mark Meckler and Jenny Beth Martin announced at the news conference. The Tea Party Express has emerged as the most prolific tea party fundraising outfit, after backing the successful primary campaigns of Christine O'Donnell in Delaware and Joe Miller in Alaska. The Tea Party Patriots, which was among the first national organizations to harness the grass roots of the tea-party movement, reiterated Tuesday that it does not intend to offer explicit endorsements of candidates. http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100921/el_yblog_upshot/tea-party-group-an… added by: Incredulous

Lady Gaga To Attend Maine Anti-‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Rally

Singer will join Servicemembers Legal Defense Network’s #4the14k event Monday. By Mawuse Ziegbe Members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network join Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV VMAs Photo: Getty Images Lady Gaga’s campaign against the U.S. Armed Forces’ “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy has been building the momentum in the past few weeks. The singer has publicly championed the repeal of the measure, by flying out members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network for the VMAs , an organization seeking to end DADT, tweeting her opinions to senators and releasing viral videos urging her fans to get involved in the cause. Now, after hitting the white carpet and taking to the Web, Gaga is heading to Maine to raise awareness at a large gay-rights event. The pop superstar is slated to appear at the #4the14k rally organized by the SLDN in Portland, Maine on Monday. The title references the approximately 14,000 citizens discharged under DADT and veterans affected by the military’s controversial measure will address attendees. The event is slated to kick off at 4 p.m. ET. “Meet me in Portland, Maine 2moro, 9/20 to help repeal #DADT. I’m holding a Rally + speaking live in Deering Oaks Park,” Gaga tweeted on Sunday (September 19). Aubrey Sarvis of SLDN maintains that the organization seeks to draw the support of Republican Maine Senators Olympia Snow and Susan Collins, who could significantly affect the passing of the “National Defense Authorization Act,” a bill which includes the repeal of DADT. “The votes to break McCain’s filibuster are not there. We need Sens. Snowe and Collins on board; they’re key to us breaking the filibuster. With the vote less than 48 hours away, we need everyone supporting repeal to call the Senate. We’re bringing gay and straight service members to Portland to help make the case,” Sarvis said in a press release . “And we’re proud to have the support of Lady Gaga to bring grassroots attention to repeal at a critical hour. Like Lady Gaga, all New England senators, indeed all 100 senators, Democrats and Republicans, need to engage in a real debate on this issue, and not just posture and spin this week over procedure and Senate rules.” Gaga has been working with the organization recently and detailed her views on DADT in a viral video released on Friday . “[The] SLDN’s advocacy proves that these soldiers are being searched; superiors are going through their e-mails and private belongings, calling family members and operating based on assumptions. Ultimately, the law is being enforced using gay profiling. … In short, not only is the law unconstitutional, but it’s not even being properly enforced by the government,” Gaga said. “I am here to be a voice for my generation, not the generation of the senators who are voting, but for the youth of this country, the generation that is affected by this law and whose children will be affected,” she continued. “We are not asking you to agree with or approve the moral implications of homosexuality; we’re asking you to do your job, to protect the constitution.” What do you think about Lady Gaga and “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”?
