Jon Chu Teases Plotline For ‘The LXD’ Season Two

‘It’s all about the villains in the next season, which is really fun,’ director says. By Jocelyn Vena Jon Chu Photo: Alexandra Wyman/ Getty Images With the first season of “The LXD” wrapping up, the online series has managed to garner admirers ranging from comic book fanboys to dance fans by seamlessly combining the mythology of comic book franchises like “X-Men” with the art of dance. And the mastermind behind the show, “Step Up 3D” director Jon Chu, says that the concept wasn’t initially an easy sell. “For sure, the question kept coming up, like, ‘What’s their power and what are they fighting for?’ ” he told MTV News. “It did take us some time to create the mythology, which even in the 10 episodes, it doesn’t come out. You just clamp [on] a lot of little questions. So, we created a history that goes from the 1920s to the year 3000 as to what that power is. So in season two you learn a lot more.” What will fans get in the second season, which Chu said has already been shot and is currently in the process of being edited before a premiere, hopefully by the end of the year? “It’s all about the villains in the next season, which is really fun,” he teased. “We see these sort of as the ‘Avengers’ style. In season two, which is them coming into learning what the LXD is, learning about what the organization is, learning who their enemies are, learning what the power, which we call RA … and this RA, which is like chi or aura or chakra, can be focused and sent outside of the body. So they’re going to explore how they can hone this RA and that there is evil out there.” Looking back on the first season, Chu, who will next direct the still-untitled Justin Bieber movie , feels that they really did start to break some ground. “You know the one that was the riskiest for us, but also the one that paid off the most, was ‘Robot Lovestory.’ That’s the one where the whole series stemmed from, on my end at least,” he said. “I wanted to do this story about how Madd Chadd discovered he was a robot. I wanted to do it in a film noir style, so that was always sort of the first one. Eventually I think it worked well, and I think it’s a fun, beautiful piece.” Have you been following “The LXD”? Sandra Bullock and Jesse James Reunite … Sort of

Sandra Bullock and Jesse James were photographed together Monday for the first time since their marriage imploded, but don’t expect a romantic reunion. We think. The two were seen walking together outside James’ West Coast Choppers shop in Long Beach, Calif., after the actress appeared at the Teen Choice Awards . Bullock and James, who finalized their divorce in June, are on speaking terms again as James is preparing to move his family near her Austin, Tex. home. His kids are close to Bullock , and “Jesse would not relocate his family [Chandler, 15, Jesse Jr., and Sunny, 6] without consulting with her,” an insider said. Sandra and Jesse in happier times. Long gone times. The motorbike mogul has been pining for Sandra to give him a second chance after he ruined everything by railing Michelle “Bombshell” McGee and others. Don’t bank on that, though. Not only is their divorce final, but the baby boy they adopted this winter, Louis Bardot, is now solely Sandra’s responsibility. Sources close to her have said she wants desperately to be part of the children’s lives going forward, but not his. In other words … it’s seriously over . The Oscar winner went into hiding before legally ending things with her cheating husband earlier several months ago after nearly five years of marriage.

‘The Other Guys’ Uses Michael Moore Tactics to Vilify CEOs, Investors, Wall Street

When the credits are the most intriguing part of the movie, there’s a problem. In the new film “The Other Guys,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, two mismatched cops try to make a name for themselves by investigating a potential Ponzi scheme run by a corrupt investor. The villain is a pseudo-Bernie Madoff but rather than vilifying a single fraud, director Adam McKay (“Anchorman,” “Step Brothers”) lumped all investors together and attacked Wall Street as a whole. “The Other Guys” is a funny but not hilarious movie for 1 hour and 47 minutes but instead of simply rolling the credits and letting viewers leave smiling, McKay followed with graphics criticizing Wall Street and corporate executives. It was almost as if Michael Moore filmed the closing credits, as graphics included the anatomy of a Ponzi scheme, the ratio of CEO to employee salaries, a comparison of the New York Police Department’s pension fund to an average CEO’s pension fund, an average worker’s 401(k) account compared to a CEO’s, and the amount of taxes Goldman Sachs paid after the bailout. While the credits provided the most egregious anti-business attacks, there were other subtle pokes at business and Republicans within the film. For example, the villain, named David Ershon (whose last name rhymes eerily with ‘Enron’), is seen in a photograph with former President George W. Bush and is said to be friends with conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Other chides included Ershon stealing from both the lottery and the NYPD pension fund — essentially stealing money from the state and a labor union — and the villains’ drive SUV’s while the heroes drive a Toyota Prius. The film grossed $35.5 million its opening weekend and has been a hit with film critics in the liberal media. According to  rottentomatoes.com , “The Other Guys” has a 77 percent “fresh” rating from critics, with The Washington Post giving it a B and Entertainment Weekly giving it an A-. Of course, the film reviewers have reveled in the anti-Wall Street message, such as Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman: “A Wall Street villain (Steve Coogan) who embodies the sins of our time with a relative absence of cheek.” A.O. Scott, film critic for The New York Times, was disappointed by the “tease” of the end credits and pined for a stronger attack: “It may be that no team can humble the unrepentant fat cats of the financial sector, but it would be nice to give Mr. Ferrell and Mr. Wahlberg a shot.” In a way, Scott is correct: the film would have been a fun, goofy movie but the end credits suggested something more. It was almost as if McKay was adamant about attacking Wall Street but wasn’t confident that the film’s plot executed his attack, so he included the graphics at the end to reinforce his message. Given that McKay is a guest blogger for The Huffington Post and Ferrell’s history of impersonating Bush, another Hollywood film with a liberal agenda shouldn’t be a surprise. As the Business & Media Institute noted, TV characters are  21 times more likely to be killed by a businessman than the mob , and  50 percent of the villains  in 2005’s Oscar-nominated movies were businessmen. However, these movies relied on their plots and characters to promote their liberal agendas rather than colorful graphics over the end credits. Like this article? HuffPo Columnist Celebrates ‘Slow, Whining Death’ of Christianity

It’s not often you see an obituary as snarky and bitter as the one written by British columnist Johann Hari announcing what he called the “slow, whining death of British Christianity” in the UK edition of GQ and online at The Huffington Post. Citing an unlinked ICM study, which is not available on the organization’s website, Hari called on reader to “put your hands together and give thanks, for I come bearing Good News. My country,Britain, is now on the most irreligious country on earth.” Hari called Christianity, “superstition,” “weak,” “cruel,” and based on “intimidation.” He predicted that, “As their dusty Churches crumble because nobody wants to go there” and predicted that “the few remaining Christians in Britain will only become more angry and uncomprehending.” While he mentioned Judaism and Islam twice, Hari focused his ridicule on Christianity and the Church of England. He used the survey to call for an end to government support for Anglicanism. Hari reported that 63 percent of British respondents called themselves non-believers, and “only six percent of British people regularly attend religious services.” While religious believers might find such number disheartening, Hari celebrated. “Now, let us stand and sing our new national hymn: Jerusalem was dismantled here / in England’s green and pleasant land.” He concluded by stating he had “a Holy Lamb of God to carve into kebabs – it’s our new national dish. Amen, and hallelujah.” Hari’s snide obituary may be early, however. A  BBC Religion poll  conducted in March 2010 found 64 percent of Brits identify as Christians – 25 percent identified with no religion, and 22 percent said they were Muslim.  Another poll  conducted in 2009 found that 63 percent of respondents agreed with the statement, “Our laws should respect and be influenced by UKreligious values.” Additionally, the annual  British Social Attitudes Report , published in January 2010, found that only 18 percent of Brits said they don’t believe in God, while 18.6 percent were unsure. More than 62 percent expressed some faith in God. Like this article? Sign up for “Culture Links,” CMI’s weekly e-mail newsletter, by   clicking   here.

Miley Cyrus To Auction Off Her Wardrobe

Sale benefiting the philanthropic social network Get Ur Good On begins later this month. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Miley Cyrus is cleaning out her closet — for a good cause. She’s just announced plans to auction off her clothing and accessories on eBay . The proceeds will benefit Get Ur Good On , a social network aimed at connecting youth with volunteer and service opportunities in and around their communities. “For me I get this amazing blessing and opportunity to do this every day and get up on stage and hopefully inspire people with my music,” Cyrus said in a video message posted on the Get Ur Good On site. “And that’s something that’s really important to me, but so is getting involved in charities.” In recent months, it’s been Cyrus’ clothing (or lack thereof) that’s garnered most of the headlines . But the new auction is just the latest charity endeavor she’s undertaken with Youth Service America, the organization that runs Get Ur Good On. Earlier this summer, she served as a spokesperson for YSA’s “Blessings in a Backpack” mission, which provides weekend meals to children on free- or reduced-lunch programs. “There’s amazing charities right here in America. You don’t have to travel 30 hours … you don’t have to give a billion dollars. It’s not about how much or how far, it’s about looking at your neighbors and seeing how you can help,” Cyrus said. “This isn’t just stuff that’s all over the world, it’s right here, it’s right next to you. It’s important to get involved.” Cyrus’ Get Ur Good On auction is scheduled to begin later this month. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Miley Cyrus Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Boy Scouts Boo Obama! Freedom of Expression? Definately… Disrespectful? Maybe…But with the Effervescence of Amusement

Rather than attend the Boy Scout Jamboree, marking the organization’s 100th anniversary, President Obama broke with tradition and opted for an appearance on ABC’s The View, as well as to serve as the headline attraction at several Democratic fundraisers. Obama, instead, sent a taped video message to the Scouts, which was not well received. In a Rick Santelli moment, one person can be heard yelling at Obama’s image: “I hope you're watching this!” Read my previous article on Obama’s historic snub to the Boy Scouts: http://www.examiner.com/x-21818-Virginia-Beach-Conservative-Examiner~y2010m7d28-… Watch the video below as the snubbed Scouts let Obama know how they feel… http://www.examiner.com/x-21818-Virginia-Beach-Conservative-Examiner~y2010m8d8-W… added by: congoboy

The event, which is mounted by Keys’ Keep a Child Alive organization, will take place September 30. “Sade? Jay-Z? Both icons and both major influences of mine. I am overwhelmed by their generosity in helping us continue the tradition of making the Black Ball the best fundraiser in NYC,” Keys said in a statement. “There are more surprises coming up! Stay tuned!” KCA also organized the Black Ball London this past May, where U.K. group Kasabian and British singer Bryan Ferry performed. The organization helps families struggling with HIV/AIDS throughout India and Africa and, since 2004, has generated more than $10 million. Keys co-founded KCA in 2003, and since then, the organization has assisted more than 250,000 people. KCA also provides financial support to orphan care and clinical centers in countries such as Rwanda and Uganda. Last year’s Black Ball in New York drew 1,000 guests, raised more than $2 million and was co-hosted by Keys, “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi and supermodel and entrepreneur Iman. The fundraiser was also held at Hammerstein Ballroom and honored former President Bill Clinton, Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson and Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour for their work fighting poverty and HIV/AIDS. Keys, N’Dour, John Mayer and Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed. A range of celebs, such as Halle Berry, Mary J. Blige, Swizz Beatz, Nick Cannon, David Bowie, Spike Lee and Usher, came out to support the cause. What do you think of this year’s Black Ball lineup? Let us know in the comments! The Wrong View: Talk Show Under Fire for HIV-Related Comments

This is a first: The View is facing controversy, and it’s NOT over something Elisabeth Hasselbeck said. In fact, that conservative commentator – whose most recent example of opinionated nonsense involved a shot at Erin Andrews – has nothing to do with why GLADD is taking aim at this ABC talk show. Instead, the organization has its sights set on Sherri Shepherd and D.L. Hughley, the June 22 guest host. On that date, the pair talked about the influx of HIV among African-Americans and blamed it on gay black men that were in the closet, aka “on the down low.” “When you look at the prevalence of HIV in the African American community, it’s primarily young women who are getting it from men who are on the down low,” Hughley said. Added Shepherd, offering no data to back up her assertion: “It’s so big in the black community with women because they’re having sex with men who have been having sex with men.” In response, GLADD has taken out a full-page ad in Variety that reads: “The Centers for Disease Control has publicly disproven this myth. And since June 22, thousands of people have written to ABC, asking that The View provide correct information to viewers. Unfortunately, those requests have been greeted with silence from both ABC and The View .” Panelists on the show are known for expressing their opinions and have the right to speak their minds, of course. But when making grand claims such as the one above, it would nice if they relied on facts to support their statements.

Open Thread: NAACP Praises Former Klansman, Opponent of CRA, VRA

In the organization’s defense, someone obviously misinformed its leadership on the late Sen. Robert Byrd’s staunchly anti-civil rights voting record . On Monday the organization released a statement from NAACP President and Chief Executive Benjamin Todd Jealous claiming that Byrd’s life “reflects the transformative power of this nation.” Jealous goes on to say that Byrd, who once asserted that it was an affront to dignity to ask white men to serve alongside blacks during World War II, “went from being an active member of the KKK to a being a stalwart supporter of the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, and many other pieces of seminal legislation that advanced the civil rights and liberties of our country.” A stalwart supporter of the Civil Rights Act? Not only did Byrd vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, he filibustered it for almost three months. He also opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Thoughts?
