On Saturday morning, a self-proclaimed “preacher” launched into a tirade aboard a New York City subway car. Not exactly an unusual occurrence for anyone who takes public transit in The Big Apple. But what was unusual about the event was when a gay passenger actually stood up and confronted the noise polluter, screaming back at him: “You teach hate…You are false. You are a false prophet… I’m a gay man and Jesus loves me! Jesus loves me!” Watch now to see both this man’s reaction and that of the onlookers: Gay Man Confronts Preacher
Oscar Pistorius swore in a South African courtroom Tuesday that he believed he was shooting an intruder last week – not girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. As the Olympian’s lawyer read a sworn deposition claiming her death was an accident , prosecutors scoffed, saying he was hell-bent on murdering her. He is charged with doing so in premeditated fashion. Pistorius says he believed an intruder was in his house on Valentine’s Day and he felt vulnerable because he was in bed without his prosthetic legs. That’s why he fired bullets through a bathroom door, killing Reeva Steenkamp , who prosecutors counter was hiding from him and cowering in there. Officials say Pistorius’ motive was simple: “I want to kill.” Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said the Olympian now only knew she was in there, he took the time to put his prosthetic legs on, walk 23 feet, and fire on her. Oscar Pistorius claims he had no idea he was shooting at Steenkamp until he realized she was not in his bed. He said, “It filled me with horror and fear.” He claims he didn’t have his prosthetic legs on when he fired, and only after that point did he put his legs on, walk over to the door and bash it open. The 26-year-old sprinter says he bashed the door open with his cricket bat , discovered Steenkamp mortally wounded and carried her downstairs. “She died in my arms,” he said. Prosecutors claim Pistorius and Steenkamp had just finished a shouting match when she fled and he fired four shots into the bathroom out of rage. What do you think? Are you buying Oscar’s defense?
A bloody cricket bat is now the center of the investigation into the death of Oscar Pistorius’ model girlfriend, according to a newspaper in South Africa. Police are unsure if Reeva Steenkamp used the bat in self-defense or if the Olympic sprinter used it, either by hitting her or breaking down a door. Steenkamp reportedly hid in the bathroom of his home and was shot four times through the door; a report says her skull may have been crushed as well. The City Press , a paper in their native South Africa, quotes a source as saying, “There was lots of blood on the bat. Forensic tests will show whose blood it was.” Pistorius was charged with murder . He is due back in court next week. On top of the cricket bat , another report indicates that the athlete called his good friend, Justin Divaris, in tears after he realized he had shot Reeva Steenkamp to death. “Reeva had been shot,” Oscar said on the phone, allegedly. “I said to him, ‘What are you talking about? I don’t understand you,’” Justin told the paper. “He then repeated himself — ‘There has been a terrible accident, I shot Reeva.’” Justin raced over to Oscar’s home, only to find it blocked off. “It was very traumatic,” he said. “By the time we got there it was already a crime scene and we weren’t allowed in the house. But we could see Reeva through the door lying there.” “[Oscar] was totally incoherent and just kept saying, ‘My baba, I’ve killed my baba. God take me away,’” Justin continued. “It is so sad. I introduced Reeva to Oscar.” “She was a really, really good friend of mine too and actually had been a friend longer … I don’t understand exactly what happened but the truth will come out.”
Nightclubs aren’t big enough for both Chris Brown and Drake. It’s a lesson many of them seem to have learned after 2012, and this week, Drake was turned away at the door of an L.A. hotspot because Brown was already inside . The club, Playhouse in Hollywood, sent Drake on his way Wednesday night as Chris was partying at a table inside and they wanted to avoid any brawls. Brown was inside celebrating an anniversary party for the clothing brand Popular Demand, with Rihanna also due to make an appearance later, no less. Amazing that this is even a consideration, but probably a smart move. Obviously aware of the Chris Brown-Drake fight at NYC’s W.i.P. nightclub last year – a brawl they are now suing each other over – they told Drake to party elsewhere. He handled the rejection like a man and left without incident. Interestingly, Rihanna did show up but exchanged nary a word with Chris, prompting speculation that the newly-reconciled couple is once again on the rocks . Also interestingly, NBA star Tony Parker is suing W.i.P. for injuries he suffered during that brawl, claiming it should have known better than to let Chris in. Clearly Playhouse got that memo.
Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius’ slain girlfriend, spent her final minutes hiding behind a bathroom door before he shot her to death, a new report alleges. The South African double-amputee Olympic sprinter pumped four bullets through the door and into the helpless blond beauty, a neighbor has claimed. Details of their Valentine’s Day fight, after which Oscar Pistorius was charged with murder , began to emerge as police piece together what happened. Or what they believe happened. Pistorius’ family, while offering prayers for Reeva Steenkamp , say they “strongly dispute” the alleged murder charge. In any event, the gorgeous model was found dead two hours after police were called to Pistorius’ upscale home over a loud fight involving the couple. Steenkamp reportedly fled in fear to the bathroom in her boyfriend’s house before she was shot through the closed door with a 9-mm. handgun. She was struck in the head, chest, pelvis and hand, local media reports say. Security guards in Pistorius’ gated Pretoria community found him sitting alongside the bloody body in the bathroom with the four bullet holes obvious in the door. The pair were alone in the house at the time of the killing; there were no eyewitness accounts. The suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene. Prosecutors, in a stunning move, announced the six-time Paralympic gold medalist faced charges of premeditated murder in the predawn shooting. Pistorius wept in court but did not enter a plea ; he remains in custody. Steenkamp and the Olympian began dating about four months ago. The shooting reverberated across South Africa, where Pistorius is a national hero, and the world, where he was a symbol of courage and determination. An ex-girlfriend of Pistorius took to Twitter to defend the 26-year-old sprinter-turned-suspect, insisting he had no history of violence toward women. “I would just like to say, I have dated Oscar on/off for 5 YEARS, NOT ONCE has he EVER lifted a finger to me, made me fear for my life,” said Jenna Edkins. His former girlfriend added: “All I am saying is let him speak, let his side be heard without jumping to conclusions. Love and thoughts to Reeva’s family.” However, another former ex called Pistorius a “player” and “certainly not what people think he is.” Samantha Taylor said he had “way with women.” Taylor’s father also weighed in on Pistorius’ dark side. “I have no sympathy for Oscar. I am just glad that my daughter is safe and that she got out of the relationship in time,” Henry Taylor was quoted as saying.
Anyone who thinks models don’t work hard, think again. Kate Upton made history with her latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover as the first to grace it two straight years since Tyra Banks in 1996-97. Boy did she have to earn it in Antarctica, though. Kate Upton Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Cover Shoot “It was definitely the hardest shoot I’ve ever done,” she says. “The best as well … Antarctica is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to.” “But I’m from Florida, so it was pretty painful. I was very surprised by the news that that’s where my shoot was going to be located,’’ she recalled. Kate Upton joked that it took her two months to thaw out. “When I came back I was losing hearing and eyesight because my body was shutting down,” she said. “It was working so hard to keep me warm.” Hey, at least the resulting Kate Upton bikini photos will help keep others warm. That must mean something, doesn’t it? She’s a real humanitarian. “It was an accomplishment just to get through the shoot… I didn’t even think about the possibility of being the cover until after I thawed out a bit!” Kate adds. “But now it’s like, wow … I actually went down there and was able to accomplish that.” Planning for the shoot took about three years due to costs and scheduling, making it the first-ever fashion shoot that has taken place in Antarctica. “Everything about the picture is perfect,” SI editor MJ Day said, “First of all, it’s cold, even though we were there in summer. The wind chill was sub-zero.” “The elements are really working against you.” “She never complained. She’d just say, ‘Okay, let’s do it again.’ I knew if I needed to bury someone in clothing, I needed her physique and curves to come through.” You see, ladies? Curves are awesome. Oscar Pistorius’ Nike ad during the 2012 London Olympics – part of the athletic giant’s “Weapon” series – declared the sprinter a “bullet in the chamber.” Given the stunning events of this morning, when Pistorius was arrested for murder in South Africa, those words have taken on a chilling new meaning. Early Thursday, South African police arrested the double amputee and Olympic inspiration for the shooting death of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp . Initial reports indicated that the death was an accident, but police have refrained from definitive statements on the crime; he is due in court tomorrow. Oscar Pistorius’ Nike ad, obviously now in bad taste given the situation, has been pulled by the company. But it begs the broader question in general: Are weaponry and violence too serious to employ metaphorically – and so casually – in sports marketing? Is athletic competition really akin to war? Watch the ad below and see if you think it’s inappropriate, not just in light of Pistorius alleged slaying of Reeva Steenkamp, but as a general idea: Oscar Pistorius Nike “Weapon” Ad

Oscar Pistorius of South Africa may not have captured a medal at the London Olympics, but you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger winner at the games, or in life. This photo surfacing Sunday on Twitter proves it 1,000 times over. It’s an older image, but it resurfaced after Pistorius raced in the 400-meter semifinals. What Oscar Pistorius , a double amputee, did this week is immeasurable. Because of him, Ellie Challs, the young girl he is seen racing here, can look up to a man who faced the same obstacles as her but refuse to accept limits: Pistorius, nicknamed the Blade Runner after his cutting-edge prosthetic sprinting legs, inspired more than fellow amputees with his effort at the Olympics. Though he didn’t make the final, he did run well enough to make the semis and held his own against the best in the world in his track and field event. Kirani James, the man who won the semifinal Pistorius ran in, was so moved that after the race, he held up the nameplate from Pistorius’ uniform to the crowd.
