Kelly Clarkson’s ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’ Is A ‘Dance Anthem’

‘That’ll be the one [that’s] kinda like ‘Since U Been Gone,’ she tells MTV News of new song ‘(Stronger).’ By Jocelyn Vena Kelly Clarkson Photo: Mike Moore/ Getty Images Kelly Clarkson doesn’t need a guy to make her feel strong, and on her new track “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger),” she lets a former flame know it. The song is the latest tease for her October 24 album, Stronger. Clarkson tweeted the official version of the song after a leak hit the Internet last week. On the dance track, which is all about the power of loving yourself, Clarkson proudly declares over a fist-pumping beat, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger/ Stand a little taller/ Doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone.” “Stronger” fits in nicely with Clarkson’s canon of empowerment-themed, kiss-off tunes. And this time around, she’s also moving on to a new guy, singing, “You heard that I was starting over with someone/ They told you I was moving on, over you/ You think I’d come/ I’d come back swinging/ You tried to be break me/ But you see what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” A version of the first song leaked over the summer but the official one had yet to be released until now. When Clarkson spoke to MTV News about the track, she said it reminded her of one of her own all-time favorites. ” ‘What Doesn’t Kill You,’ I can’t wait to perform that live,” the singer told us. “We’ve already rehearsed it, and it’s so much fun. It’s like this big dance anthem. That’ll be the one [that’s] kinda like ‘Since U Been Gone,’ [with] people jumping up and down to [it], and it’s just kind of really inspiring, so I can’t wait to perform that one. Diddy Says G. Dep ‘Did The Right Thing’ In Confession

‘You could always feel that … maybe something was troubling his soul,’ Bad Boy mogul says of his former artist copping to 1993 shooting. By Paul Cantor Diddy Photo: Statia Photography/ Getty Images Diddy called into Sirius’ Shade 45 radio show on Tuesday (December 22) morning to talk up his latest effort, Last Train to Paris. But the rap mogul also commented on his onetime Bad Boy artist, G. Dep , who has made headlines in the last week. G. Dep (born Trevell Coleman) , recently confessed to a shooting and botched robbery attempt in 1993, only to discover from the New York Police Department that his victim, John Henkel, had died. Thirty-six-year-old G. Dep is now facing murder charges for the 17-year-old crime and was indicted on Tuesday. “You could always feel that if you knew G. Dep, and I can’t say it was that, maybe something was troubling his soul,” Diddy said. ” ‘Cause he was real quiet. He’s the type of guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly. I don’t know what happened in that instance but he did the right thing and manned up to it.” Diddy also speculated on what G. Dep’s state of mind may have been back in 1993, not long before he signed to Diddy’s record label. “He had a real bad drug problem and that could have caused the situation,” Diddy said. “As a person, that wasn’t nothing that he would do. Drugs sometimes make people slip up and make mistakes.” Dep’s drug problem may have been a motivating factor behind his startling confession to a crime that he had essentially gotten away with. On Tuesday, the New York Daily News reported that his lawyer, Michael Alperstein, indicated the confession was in step with a 12-step Narcotics Anonymous detox program in which the rapper was taking part. “The power of the 12-step program and making amends,” his lawyer said. “He’s trying to remake his life. He’s trying to clean up.” Alperstein said Dep had twice tried to confess in the past, but that cops didn’t take him seriously and asked him to come back. A police source disputed that notion, saying that Dep was “high as a kite” when he first attempted to confess over the summer, and that interviews with him had been unsuccessful. Diddy remembered G. Dep as an artist who showed real promise. “Dep was definitely one of the favorite artists I signed to Bad Boy,” he said. “That’s something I really wanted to work out, but that was just like he had personal things he was dealing with and we tried our best with that.” Related Artists Diddy G. Slim Thug Balances H-Town And Mainstream In Tha Thug Show

‘I think I did a good job of mixing it up,’ the Houston rapper says of his latest album. By Jayson Rodriguez Slim Thug Photo: MTV News Slim Thug thinks he might have veered too far left on his debut album, 2005’s Already Platinum. And the follow up, last year’s Boss of All Bosses might have shot off to the right a bit too much. But for his latest salvo, Tha Thug Show, released this week, the Texas titan said he hit right on the mark. “My aim for this album was to give the fans the Already Platinum feel and my second album and even it out,” he told MTV News. “The response I’ve been getting has been good. But my first album was kind of mainstream with all the Pharrell stuff, but the people of Houston felt like they didn’t get enough of the old Slim Thug. And then on Boss of All Bosses, I gave them nothing but H-Town. [ Laughs. ] But on this one, I wanted to give them half and half, and I think I did a good job of mixing it up.” The project features collaborations with B.o.B (“So High”), Yo Gotti, Nipsey Hussle, Big K.R.I.T. and Rick Ross. Ross and Slim Thug were involved in a minor dispute over the summer via Twitter over their shared nickname, “Boss,” and a dated Ross record that leaked. But the pair patched things up and released “Paid the Coast” as a sign of solidarity between the rappers. “For a record to surface and me being a little slow on Twitter, I didn’t really peep it until two days later,” Ross told MTV News at the time. “When I found out about it and heard about it, they said I’m dissing Slim Thug. ” ‘What’s the name of the record? “King Boss”?’ ” he remembered asking. “I never had a record called ‘King Boss.’ I just left it alone. After the fact, [Slim] asked me about it. I told the homie, ‘Of course it ain’t nothing but love between me and you, big dawg.’ We got in the studio later that night. The night we spoke. I e-mailed him something; shot him something, did something for his album. It’s fire. Then I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters.” Related Artists Slim Thug

Rapper throws a massive bash after his digital girl comes to life in new clip featuring Akon. By Jayson Rodriguez Flo Rida Photo: MTV News Flo Rida has a penchant for making party jams, from his breakout hit “Get Low” to “Right Round.” But for his latest, “Who Dat Girl” featuring Akon, the Sunshine State native may have taken his partying ways too far. So much so that in the video, Flo watches as a woman actually comes to life from his computer screen. “The story line basically, I’m on the computer, me and my colleague, and we actually spill some alcohol on the computer,” the rapper told MTV News. “And the young lady pops out, you know, just to make it interesting and clever. She’s around the house and we just throw a big, huge party and at the end of the video she disappears.” The clip premiered on Thursday (December 2) exclusively on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Jams and MTV.com. And the track is from the lyricist’s latest album, Only One Flo (Part 1), which dropped earlier this week and features production by Dr. Luke and David Guetta, among a host of platinum-generating beatsmiths. Guetta and Flo Rida teamed up for the album’s first single, “Club Can’t Handle Me.” “David Guetta has been a guy who I look up to,” Flo told MTV News over the summer. “He’s definitely been big around the world and has always been there to let me know that my music is hot, and vice versa. So I definitely appreciate doing this big record with him.” What do you think of Flo Rida’s latest single? Share your reviews in the comments!

Chrisette Michele Raves About Rick Ross Reunion On ‘So In Love’

‘Aston Martin Music’ MC returns the favor on Michele’s just-released album, Let Freedom Reign. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Hillary Crosley and Joel Hanek Chrisette Michele Photo: MTV News Chrisette Michele rocketed to the top of the charts in 2009 with her album Epiphany. In 2010, she beefed up her hip-hop cred by appearing on Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music.” Now, the rapper is returning the favor by making a cameo on her just-released album, Let Freedom Reign. “It was something I was playing around with, [and I] put it together,” she told MTV News about her latest collaboration with the MC, “So in Love.” “And when it was all done, I said, ‘Ross, can you drop a verse?’ He did, and now he’s a lovebird.” The smooth love jam is a follow-up to the big-pimpin’ track they released over the summer. But this time the duo aren’t singing about their love of a certain high-end luxury car; they are talking all about romance. “He’s a really nice guy,” she said of Ross’ tough exterior, before adding that working with the rapper has been quite the change of pace. “I’m just a regular suburbia girl from Long Island. I happened to get onto a hip-hop record, and the response is crazy.” Michele was very involved in the whole album, including the Ne-Yo-penned, Chuck Harmony-produced lead single “I’m a Star.” “I was the co-executive producer on it, and I wrote nine of the 10 songs,” she said. “So I feel really, really a part of it.” Have you checked out Chrisette’s new album yet?
