Jailed ‘Innocence of Muslims’ Filmmaker Is Unrepentant

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula has had plenty of time on his hands to think about the violent unrest that his crude 14-minute YouTube video, Innocence of Muslims , caused, and he has no regrets. Nakoula, who’s stewing in a Los Angeles jail because he violated the conditions of his probation stemming from a fraud conviction unrelated to the movie, told   the New York Times  in an interview “that he would go to great lengthys to convey what he called ‘the actual truth’ about Muhammad.’ In Nakoula’s first public comments since landing back in the clink, he explained that before he wrote the script to what became Innocence of Muslims — an early draft was called The First Terrorist — he thought, “I should burn myself in a public square to let the American people and the people of the world know this message that I believe in.”  He also cited the 2009 massacre at Fort Hood, Tex. in which U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 29 others on the military base. Nakoula’s interview is part of a larger investigative piece about the making of Innocence of Muslims that the paper calls “a bizarre tale of fake personas and wholesale deception,” adding: “as with almost everything touched over the years by Mr. Nakoula — a former gas station manager, bong salesman, methamphetamine ingredient supplier and convicted con man — it is almost impossible to separate fact from fabrication.” The Times  story indicates, by the way, that there’s more to Innocence of Muslims than just a 14-minute YouTube clip. The finished film is apparently one hour and 30 minutes long. [The New York Times] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Hector Camacho to Be Taken Off Life Support

Hector Camacho, a former Lightweight and Welterweight boxing champion, will pass away today from injuries suffered in a shooting on Tuesday. His family has announced it is taking the 50-year old off life support. The Puerto Rican native, who compiled a lifetime record of 79-6-3, was the passenger in a car when another vehicle pulled up aside him and a friend, firing shots that killed the driver in Camacho’s car and fatally wounding the athlete. He was hit in the neck and face and suffered a cardiac arrest soon after the incident, which many believe was drug-related after bags of cocaine were found in the victims’ vehicle, according to TMZ sources. Camacho was declared brain dead on Wednesday afternoon and funeral services will reportedly be held in either Puerto Rico or New York. Over the years, Camacho fought such legends as Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya. He latter struggled with substance abuse issues and also faced domestic violence charges in 2011. He was shot that same year near housing projects in San Juan. Our thoughts go out to Camacho’s friends and loved ones.

Lindsay Lohan-Jay Leno Interview Pisses Off Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters is not happy about Lindsay Lohan bailing on 20/20 – and even less pleased that the star immediately booked an interview with Jay Leno. Her new publicist, Tej Bhatia Herring, took over when Steve Honig quit last month, and was reportedly concerned that Walters would paint Lohan in an unfavorable light. She therefore found else someone to interview her client, a man who lobs more softballs than that fat dude in your slow-pitch league: Jay Leno. Come to think of it, Leno might actually be the fat dude in your slow-pitch league. Walters feels she was stood up by Lindsay and is pissed, given how fair she believes she’s been to her over the years – and would’ve been again in this case. Alas, fair also means holding the interview subject at least semi-accountable. On Friday, NBC announced that Lohan would appear on The Tonight Show on November 20 to promote her Liz Taylor biopic, which airs on November 25. You can expect Leno to stick to the Liz & Dick talking points and avoid any hard-hitting inquiries about partying, legal problems or family issues. Lohan’s new publicist seems to have a plan to reconstruct her client’s image, one that basically entails preventing her from having to explain herself. Ever. PR at its finest.

Taylor Swift Warns of "Toxic" Love

Taylor Swift is featured on the cover of yet another magazine this week. And you won’t believe it, but the singer is talking about her love life with Harper’s Bazaar . Without revealing any names (cough… cough… John Mayer… cough… cough…) Swift says “some combinations of people are toxic, you know? You have to find the right one that isn’t just going to explode into fiery ash and destruction.” Of course, this has been a challenge for Taylor, who recently split with Conor Kennedy . But at least there’s a silver lining for the best-seller, who is famous for penning singles about her break-ups. “Despite all of that and how unpleasant it is, as a writer you get a lot from it. It’s a crazy justification system. You know that guy you really wish you could erase from your memory? But then the answer is track six, eight, 12, and 13.” Referring to relationships as “the ultimate collaboration,” Swift also zeroes in on one of the problems that has plagued her over the years. “If I feel too much like I’m wearing the pants, I start to feel uncomfortable and then we break up.” Let’s take a look at the publications Taylor has covered during the past few weeks, as she’s been all around promoting ” Red .”

Harrison Ford Might Return As Han Solo − And Die Happy

Yes, Mara Jade, it’s possible for Harrison Ford to be “open to the idea” of reprising his role as Han Solo in Disney’s  Star Wars Episode VII  and still hate the character, as Movieline noted back in 2010 . The key here is that the actor may finally get the opportunity to kill off the character that has bedeviled him throughout his auspicious career, which is something he wanted back in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.   A “highly placed source” told EW.com  that  “Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it,” but the story also notes, “don’t be surprised if his contract includes a mandatory death scene for the sly old space smuggler.” Now, there’s a reason to be upbeat!  Ford gets to chew some scenery in a death scene and   cut his ties — symbolically, psychically, joyously — to the role he can’t seem to shake, or love. Even though, two of the video clips seemed to have suddenly been pulled from Movieline’s 2010 post,  Ford’s not-so-fond feelings for the space cowboy character that made him a box-office boss have  been pretty apparent over the years. As EW also reported, Ford said in a 2010 ABC interview that Han Solo “was not so interesting to me” and that  “I thought he should have died in [Episode VI] to give it some bottom.” I also would have much preferred a Solo death scene instead of watching Ewoks dance. So, I hope Ford gets his wish. Then, the next time a talk-show host asks him about his iconic role, he can finally say:  “Han Solo — he’s dead.” Related Stories: Harrison Ford’s Long History of Hating Star Wars Luke Skywalker & Princess Leia Knew Of More Star Wars Stories; Surprised By LucasFilm Sale Disney Buying LucasFilm For $4.05 Billion, Promises New Star Wars in 2015 (UPDATED) Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Justin Bieber Punks Fans, Releases New Music Video

So… did Justin Bieber get you?!? The singer claimed earlier this week that footage from his camera and his computer was stolen. He then engaged in what appeared to be a Twitter war with the culprit, who threatened to release an especially damaging piece of evidence against Bieber at noon today. And what happened at noon today? Bieber unveiled the official music video for “Beauty and a Beat.” That’s right, America: you’ve been punked! Justin Bieber – “Beauty And A Beat” (Music Video) Wrote Justin after releasing a video that features Nicki Minaj: “since i was 14 i have had a lot of things said about me, from dying, to taking hormones, to dying again, to stuff about my family… to saying i had a baby with a woman i never even met. nude pics, drugs, my family, my character…but today…today i get to be in on it…” Sounds like some residual bitterness there from a few of the Justin Bieber scandals that have cropped up over the years. But whatever the motivation, well played, Biebs. You fooled us.

‘Bond, James Bond’: 007’s Top 10 One-Liners

In many ways, James Bond laid the template for what a modern-day action hero would look like: handsome, cool, badass, but most importantly, witty. The tradition of tough-guy one-liners may not have originated with 007, but it certainly had a good run within the franchise, and has continued to thrive across all genres of action today. Here’s some of the best of Bond’s zingers over the years. 1. “That’s a Smith & Wesson…and you’ve had your six. ( Dr. No ) 2. “Shocking… positively shocking. “ ( Goldfinger ) 3. “No more foreplay.”( Goldeneye ) 4. “Bond. James Bond.” ( Dr. No ) 5. “But of course you are.” ( Diamonds are Forever ) Hit the jump for more!

Kato Kaelin: Yep, O.J. Simpson Totally Killed People

Brian “Kato” Kaelin, O.J. Simpson’s former friend, apparently just said the Juice “definitely” killed Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, which we already all know. Kato’s disclosure is still surprising given that Kato is the only person known to be with O.J. around the time of the murders he beat the rap for in June 1994. Kato went to McDonald’s with O.J. and was living in his guest house. Prosecutors say he heard O.J. outside coming back from the killings that fateful night. During the trial, Kaelin feigned ignorance, but tells the N.Y. Post today: “Yes, he did it.” He didn’t say so then because, “I was too scared. I was terrified.” Kato says that he can now come clean because statute of limitations has passed and he can’t be charged with perjury based on his original testimony. He says it’s been a long 18 years doing … whatever it is he does. “People hated me. I’ve been spat upon. They threw gum in my coffee,” he recalls. Simpson was eventually acquitted of murder, but was found liable for their deaths in civil court. He is now doing hard time for kidnapping and robbery . He is also rumored to be Khloe Kardashian’s father … which he’s not. But her father, Robert Kardashian Sr., was his trusted lawyer and confidant. UPDATE: Kato Kaelin shockingly now tells TMZ that he never said ANY of those things to reporter New York Post reporter Cindy Adams or anyone else. Kato says he has expressed his opinion over the years that he THINKS O.J. killed Nicole and Ron, but he insists, “I have no first hand knowledge.”
