Aretha Franklin’s Mystery Illness Was Not Pancreatic Cancer

We still don’t know what was wrong with her, but the Queen of Soul herself says it definitely wasn’t pancreatic cancer. Today was clearly “do interviews day” for Ms. Franklin. And what she told Access Hollywood about her illness might be more interesting than the fact that she thinks Halle Berry looks like her . “Well, there was just so many wild things out there and just so many things being said that weren’t true,” Aretha told Shaun in a phone interview on Thursday. “I just felt I needed to address it a little.” Aretha, 68, admits there was indeed a health scare, but she isn’t ready to divulge specifics just yet. “I went through a number of procedures before I knew what was wrong,” Aretha told Shaun. “I know that you revealed to Jet magazine that you initially sought treatment because of a pain in your side,” Shaun replied. “Did the pain get so severe that you said, ‘Hey, there’s got to be something wrong here?’” “Yeah, the pain was so hard it almost brought me to my knees,” Aretha revealed. “I was in Birmingham and then Boston and after that concert the same pain hit me again. “I really just began to not feel good and I said, ‘Oh, no this is it, I can’t do any more concerts till I know what the problem is,’” she added. The “Freedom” chanteuse shot down rampart reports that she had been stricken with pancreatic cancer, saying, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from. “I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that,” Aretha continued. “No one in my family ever said that to anybody.” The beloved artist received an overwhelming outpouring of “Respect” from high-profile well-wishers during her recovery – including the Commander In Chief. “I got a wonderful and beautiful letter from the President,” Aretha told Shaun. “And nobody does it like him!” Access is thrilled to report that Aretha is expected to continuing blessing us with her phenomenal voice and fashion-forward hats for the foreseeable future. “So, it’s safe to say to your fans that we will be seeing Aretha Franklin for many years to come, right?” Shaun asked Aretha. “That’s what my doctor said,” Aretha replied. “He said, ‘The surgery that you just had is going to add 15 to 20 more years to your life.’” And y’all said we were mean when we tweeted that she probably had gastric bypass or a breast reduction. Senate expected to pass medical marijuana resolution, but advocate Diane Riportella, of Egg Harbor Township, will stay home

By SARAH WATSON Staff Writer pressofAtlanticCity.com Diane Riportella did not take pain medication Friday, hoping she could make it through the day. By evening, however, the pain from not being able to move was unbearable, the anxiety and fear inconsolable. Rather than have her husband Paul give her a few drops of cherry-flavored liquid morphine, the Egg Harbor Township resident instead asked that he light her pipe with medical grade marijuana. Almost instantly, she said, the pain dissipated, her anxiety gone and she felt the will to live come back. Today, if everything occurs as expected, Diane Riportella will hear that the state Senate passed a resolution that could be the last hurdle in legalizing medical marijuana in New Jersey. Unfortunately, Diane, who is in the final stages of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also called ALS, won’t be in Trenton to watch the vote in person. http://www.jackherer.com/archives/senate-expected-to-pass-medical-marijuana-reso… added by: JackHerer

Usher Calls ‘Hot Tottie,’ Featuring Jay-Z, ‘Incredible’

‘Videos, we’re in the process of working on that as well,’ he tells MTV News of his Versus plans. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by James “FLX” Smith Usher Photo: MTV News Usher’s life is all about balance right now. We caught up with him at the World Leadership Awards earlier this month in Atlanta, and he gave us a glimpse into his busy schedule. “If it’s not philanthropy, it’s music,” he said at the event for his New Look Foundation, which just raised $150,000 for a mobile clinic that will go to Haiti. “If it’s not music, it’s making sure I got the kids and dropping them off. I’m like super dad right now. The tour is the next step. May do a little acting. I’m definitely in the process of producing a few things, but it’s staying busy. If it’s not fragrance, then it’s lifestyle. If it’s cars — I mean owning, not just driving — it’s a little bit of everything.” As far as his music goes, his latest song, the Jay-Z-featuring “Hot Tottie,” is in heavy radio rotation. The record — whose name is a variation on a hot toddy mixed drink — is just a taste of the heat Usher has to offer on his upcoming EP, Versus. “In terms of ‘Hot Tottie,’ it’s another incredible record that’s gonna be part of the re-release of Raymond v. Raymond [called] Versus, ” he said. “There’s a few more. You guys check it out. Videos, we’re in the process of working on that as well.” Versus is slated to drop Tuesday. Christopher Nolan on 3D: ‘Extremely Alienating’

Did you sit through Avatar — or Alice in Wonderland or any other 3D film released over the twelve months — and feel like you were watching it on a laptop with the brightness turned down? Well, Christopher Nolan feels your pain. While every other filmmaker in Hollywood — even, sadly, Martin Scorsese — embraces 3D imagery and technology, the Inception director is steadfastly holding out against the wave of extra dimensions and over-priced tickets.
