Daniel Craig ‘Hopes’ Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem Join ‘Bond 23’

‘I’m as excited about this script as I was about the ‘Casino Royale’ script,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Daniel Craig Photo: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images This summer in Montana, while Daniel Craig was promoting “Cowboys & Aliens,” the actor steered clear of any casting news relating to “Bond 23,” declining to confirm to MTV News long-standing rumors that Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem were getting set to join the action flick. A few months later, while promoting “The Adventures of Tintin,” Craig was in more of a giving mood, letting us know that he’s keeping his fingers crossed that Fiennes and Bardem are on set when production on “Bond 23” kicks off in early October. “I hope so,” he said about the two actors. “I hope so.” Bardem confirmed back in February that he was in talks to play a villain in the flick, while rumors have been floating since early in the year that Fiennes was looking to take on an unspecified role. In July, MTV News shot down reports that “Amazing Spider-Man” villain Rhys Ifans had also signed up for “Bond 23,” with the actor telling us, “No, I just have a license to kill.” According to Craig, the way “Bond 23” is coming together has him the most excited about the franchise since he took on the iconic spy role years ago. “We’ve got a great script this time,” he told us. “I’m as excited about this script as I was about the ‘Casino Royale’ script. I think in Sam [Mendes] we’ve got the perfect director. The cast is coming together now. I can’t wait to get going on it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Bond 23.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Hangover Part II’ Is ‘More Epic’ Than Original, Director Says

‘People are going to be really surprised,’ Todd Phillips tells MTV News. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Photo: Warner Bros. Who’s afraid of the wolf pack? If the just-released trailer for “The Hangover Part II” is any indication of what moviegoers can expect come May 26, then it’s a whole lot of crazy antics. Yes, even crazier than before. The two-and-a-half-minute clip features the “Hangover” wolf pack — Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha — up to their old tricks (losing someone after a boozy night on the town, finding exotic animals in their bathroom) in a new setting (they’ve gone from wreaking havoc in Las Vegas to Thailand). So when MTV News caught up with “The Hangover Part II” director Todd Phillips at the 2011 CinemaCon in none other than Vegas, we had to ask if there were any way the sequel could live up to the wildly successful 2009 comedy. Phillips, who was also at the helm of the original (which brought in more than $467 million worldwide), said he believed “The Hangover Part II” is actually better than the first. “Audiences have really responded in the same way,” Phillips said of the reaction to the follow-up. “It’s just been out of this world. I think people are going to be really surprised.” In fact, Phillips himself gave the movie a stamp of approval that could sway even the most hard-core “Hangover” purists: “I think it’s a funnier film, and I think it’s a more epic film.” And while the 40-year-old writer/director said he still loves the original, he believes the sequel “just turned out to be a more satisfying film.” As if that weren’t enough, it seems the first film, which featured, among other things, drugging a Bengal tiger, a run-in with Mike Tyson and grown men getting tased by children, will be tame compared to the mishaps that occur in the latest. As Phillips explained: “We had less constraints on us — and I don’t mean money; just freedom to do whatever we wanted.” Do you think “The Hangover Part II” will be better than the original? Britney Spears’ MTV Special Is ‘For The Fans,’ Manager Says

‘I want them to know that Britney is back and better than ever,’ Larry Rudolph tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears performs “Till the World Ends” at Rain Nightclub in the Palms Las Vegas Photo: Roderick Trestrail Britney Spears gives fans an inside look at her life and the making of her latest album in the MTV special “Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale.” MTV News has of course been tracking the release of her record, which finally dropped on Tuesday, but we were also on hand as she performed in Las Vegas at the Palms’ Rain nightclub. Fans will get to see the show — and much more — for themselves when the special airs on Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. When we spoke to Spears’ longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, in Vegas, he told us Brit wanted to put on a spectacle for her fans. She wanted to take her first Femme Fatale live performance to Vegas because much like the city, Spears’ concerts have lots of sparkle, pyro and razzmatazz, he explained. “We chose this place; we chose the Palms because the Palms is where Britney has so much history,” he said. “We performed here with the Britney album, we did a similar thing. We’re doing this eight years later now and we’re doing it for the fans.” Rudolph stressed that Spears has one main goal: to entertain her fans in the Femme Fatale era. “For her, it was really important to do it for the fans the first time she was out there,” he explained. “To do it here in Las Vegas, where everything is bigger and everything is more exciting and the fans are here for her, this was the place to do it. “I want them to know — when the fans watch this — I want them to know that Britney is back and better than ever, not that she’s ever gone anywhere,” he continued. “But she’s back and she’s better than ever.” Don’t miss “Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale” on Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Britney Spears Was ‘Over-The-Top’ In Las Vegas, Palms Owner Says

‘Anytime Britney comes to the Palms, we always welcome her with open arms,’ George Maloof tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears performs in Las Vegas on Friday Photo: Splash News Online Last Friday, Britney Spears brought her own razzle-dazzle to the already-glittering city of Las Vegas. She played a fan-pleasing three-song set at Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino, where the show was being taped for an MTV special airing this week. Hours before Britney took the stage, MTV News caught up with Palms owner George Maloof, who gushed about how awesome it was to have Britney on hand for her first Femme Fatale live performance. “I think this one’s going to be really over-the-top,” he said of Spears’ show, which will be included in the MTV special. “And we’re all excited about her new album, and I heard it’s spectacular, so here we go: Britney Spears at the Palms.” Spears hyped the release of Femme Fatale in a big way during Friday’s nightclub set, performing lead singles “Hold It Against Me” and “Till the World Ends” while also debuting the will.i.am-produced “Big Fat Bass.” Each track required a new body-hugging costume — including a black latex catsuit covered in red LED lights — to accommodate her trademark dance moves. Check out photos from Britney’s Las Vegas show . Maloof, who has known Britney for the better part of the last decade, said that while he’s friendly with the star, he’s still excited that she chose his hotel for the performance. “It’s the biggest star in the world, so it’s an honor for us. And anytime Britney comes to the Palms, we always welcome her with open arms, so it’s going to be great,” he said. “We try and keep it a secret. It’s pretty difficult in this day and age, but there’s so much anticipation.” Spears wasn’t the only big name on the marquee for the show. “Jersey Shore” star DJ Pauly D was also on hand to warm up the crowd. “Pauly D is one of our resident DJs, so we bring the Palms and Pauly D, pop culture together here with Britney Spears, and it’s going to be a madhouse.” For fans who couldn’t be at the Vegas show themselves, Maloof set the scene: “I think they’re going to see pyrotechnics. I think they’re going to see a very sexy show in a very unique and intimate venue that’s one-of-a-kind. … It’ll be a lot of fun. I want to hear the songs. I’m excited about the album, so that’s what I’m looking forward to. I know she can perform, I know she can dance, and I’m just waiting for this great album.” After months of video and song teasers, Spears’ Femme Fatale is due in stores Tuesday, which will also be “Britney Takeover Day” on MTV.
