Joe Cocker Dies: Rock Legend Was 70 Years Old

Iconic rock singer Joe Cocker passed away from lung cancer today at the age of 70. Even if you’re not familiar with Cocker’s name, you’ll likely recognize the trademark raspy voice that crooned such memorable hits as his famous cover of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends:” Joe Cocker: “With a Little Help From My Friends” That song served as the theme for the hit TV series The Wonder Years for six seasons, and while it may be his most recognized hit (at least for post-Baby Boom generations), it certainly wasn’t his only chart-topper. Cocker won a Grammy for his 1983 duet with Jennifer Warnes, “Up Where We Belong” and his take on the the romantic standard “You Are So Beautiful To Me” remains the definitive version of the tune. Cocker’s rendition of Dave Mason’s “Feelin’ Alright?” also remains a popular fan favorite that regularly surfaces on movie and TV soundtracks. While Cocker’s popularity may have peaked in the 70s and 80s, he continued to tour and record music throughout his life, releasing his final album in 2012. Cocker reportedly died at his Colorado ranch in the presence of his wife, Pam.
