Back in April, Paris Jackson got a tattoo to pay tribute to her late, legendary father. The 18-year-old followed that up with more ink, and today she revealed why she’s been so eager to complete her sleeves: As you may recall, it wasn’t that long ago that Jackson struggled with severe depression in the wake of her father’s death. Paris attempted suicide in 2013, and she recently revealed that she engaged in self-harm practices such as cutting for several years. Now, Paris is speaking for the first time about how her painful past inspired her current fondness for tattoos. In a lengthy caption for the above Instagram photo, the 18-year-old revealed that while she likes the look of her ink, her decision to go under the needle was inspired by more than simple aesthetics: “Today I can look at my inner forearms and see art that has meaning for me, I don’t see a dark past anymore,” Paris wrote. “My scars and past of self-hatred have been covered by loving marks, creativity, ingenuity.. and depth. Sure I will always carry my past with me, but I see ink as a way of changing for the better, always improving. “They represent strength for me. I look back at my old self and then i look in the mirror, and i see a fighter looking back at me. I’ll always keep fighting, and encouraging others to stay strong. “We all go through hell every now and then but it makes us the warriors of love we were meant to be. so to anyone struggling, it gets better. You’re not alone.” Inspiring stuff from an 18-year-old who’s been through an awful lot. Scars from early struggles may never disappear, but it’s nice to hear that Paris has figured out a way to write her own story right over them. We’re sure Michael would be proud that she’s followed in his footsteps by using art as a means of coping with the memories of a painful childhood. Michael Jackson died in June 2009, but the commemoration of MJ’s birthday has, for the sixth consecutive year now, sparked tributes to the musical icon. He will forever be remembered for his mesmerizing dance moves, telegenic appeal, groundbreaking music videos and literally dozens of hit songs. Not just ephemeral hits, but tracks that changed the music landscape forever, inspiring countless other artists and breaking every record in the books. Michael, of course, was also known for personal eccentricities, a life plagued by scandal, speculation and shocking allegations that he faces to this day. Fans remember him for his music and his compassion; Jackson’s charitable contributions through the years were almost as immense as his career. Most of all, he would surely like to be remembered for raising three wonderful kids, Prince, Blanket and Paris Jackson, all of whom feel his loss most deeply. Juan Pablo Galavis has been under siege for what feels like … the entire Season 18 of The Bachelor. Ever since he was cast, things went downhill. The negativity that started when he made anti-gay comments regarding the possibility of a same-sex Bachelor really snowballed in recent weeks, however. Sharleen Joynt peaced out of the series, followed by Andi Dorfman , whose epic dumping of Juan Pablo turned the tables and caused quite a stir. Then Monday’s Women Tell All episode aired, and everybody just kept piling it on. How does El Bachelor respond, now that he has his say? Let’s find out. “I think to understand the women I have to take a step back and remember it’s not easy facing rejection,” he says in his weekly People blog . “Before I talk about specifics, I want to write about how it can be difficult when you’re the Bachelor,” he adds, to which Andi is no doubt rolling her eyes. “It isn’t easy to remember all of the conversations or the questions that I ask, but I always tried my best and I wish that the women recognized that.” “I understand it’s a very hard situation, but … the women I had a better connection and attraction with are the ones that I felt fit more into what I was looking for.” “I understood why Kelly wanted an explanation about my gay comments because during my adventure we had talked openly about her father,” he went on. “I told Kelly that I would love to have an hourlong chat with her so that she can better understand what was misinterpreted and what my views are.” The Bachelor Season 18 Finale Preview “I also want to understand her views and experiences.
