Four Mississippi teenagers attacked WWII veteran Lawrence E. “Shine” Thornton in his driveway and the 87-year-old man died from the injuries sustained in this brutal mugging. WWII Veteran Dies After Brutal Attack Lawrence E. “Shine” Thornton, from Greenville, Mississippi, died two days after four young men shoved him to the ground to steal his wallet while he was in his own driveway. His life, says Eric Scheiner, was “a story of hard work, overcoming adversity, belief in God and finding some success in doing what you love.” The accused, Terrance Morgan, 19; Edward Johnson, 19; Leslie Litt, 18; and Geblonski Murray, 18, have each been charged with capital murder and are being held without bond. They are also charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Earlier this fall, an extraordinarily shaggy canine was found by Brenda Gough’s husband near the family’s farm in Ontario. It was so scared and so heavily matted that the poor creature could barely walk. So Gough quickly brought the pooch to the Park Road Veterinary Clinic where she works. Abadoned Dog Gets Fresh Start Once there, the dog was named Shrek (“out of endearment,” the clinic wrote on Facebook. “The irony of him being found near a pond… how he will go from shy and afraid to loved and comforted with a family.”) and he was given a massive makeover. According to the clinic, 3.5 pounds of hair was shaved off, an incredible transformation depicted here: “He is still terrified and nervous,” Gough told Metro. “But looking for human contact, and learning all about love.” Three days after Shrek was discovered, he was interacting with other dogs and permitting people to cradle him. “He’s a special little guy with a huge fan club,” Gough told Metro, referring to all on Facebook who have shared Shrek’s story. “The outpouring of support from around the world has raised my faith in humanity.”

That’s what happened to 14-year old Tana Clymer this weekend, as the Oklahoma City native went digging around Arkansas State Park and came up with a seriously expensive stone. Girl Finds VERY Expensive Diamond in Park “I thought it was a piece of paper or foil from a candy wrapper,” Clymer told Good Morning America. “Then, when I touched it, I thought it was a marble.” In actuality, it was a teardrop-shaped diamond that could be worth as much as $30,000 and, incredibly, is the the 396th diamond found in the park – which sits on an eroded ancient volcanic – in 2013. Assistant Superintendent Bill Henderson says visitors are permitted to keep whatever they find at the venue. “No two diamonds are alike, and each diamond finder’s story is unique, too,” he said in a statement. “What an experience for Tana to remember the rest of her life.” Tana has named the diamond God’s Jewel and told GMA that divine intervention played a role in this discovery. “I think God pointed me to it,” she says. “I was about to sprint to join my family, and God told me to slow down and look. Then I found the diamond.”

According to The NY Daily News A scissors-wielding lunatic stabbed and slashed five victims in a Riverside Park rampage before he was subdued Tuesday morning by a brave passerby, police said. An 18-month-old boy and his father were among those targeted as they strolled through the Manhattan park before the unprovoked 7:58 a.m. attack by a homeless man, police said. Crazed assailant Julius James Graham, 43, who was living at a Harlem shelter, unleashed his rage without warning on a bright October morning. He was taken down by a passing good Samaritan and held until police arrived. “He was looking for people he could mess with,” said an eyewitness, a 57-year-old man named Eddie. “He was looking for trouble.” Minutes after spotting the scary-looking Graham, he heard someone screaming and the little boy crying. “I got up and looked, and I saw the baby and I see a guy with blood where (the scissors) went in,” he said. Graham was standing nearby. The good Samaritan credited the injured boy’s dad with saving the child’s life. “I’m no hero,” said the unidentified man, a red mark visible on his neck, as cops led him from the park. “The guy with the baby is the hero.” Poor people. The little boy suffered only a wound to his arm as his father sprung to his defense. The terrifying attacks began when a woman running along the jogging path was stabbed in her back, said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. The next victim, a 36-year-old man, “thought he was punched in the stomach by the individual but he was stabbed,” Kelly said. A second woman on the jogging path was slashed in the neck before Graham came upon the man pushing his son in a stroller. The scissors-toting suspect went after the pair, with the father jumping to the aid of his toddler. “He’s slashed in the chest,” said Kelly. “His son is slashed in the arm.” All five victims were taken to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center after the attacks. The 2-year-old boy and the other two victims — a man stabbed in the chest and a woman stabbed in the neck — were all listed in stable condition. The woman stabbed in her back was “definitely worse than the others,” the source said. None of the victims was expected to die. Jeffrey Babbitt slipped into a coma and had been declared brain dead at Bellevue Hospital after he was allegedly beat by 31-year-old Lashawn Marten last week. Babbitt, a retired train conductor, was reportedly walking in Union Square around 3 p.m. Wednesday when Marten allegedly shouted a racial comment and began attacking people. “He said ‘the next white person who walks by I’m going to [expletive],’” one female witness told CBS New York. “His fist went in and the man’s head bobbed and he hit the ground and you could hear his skull hitting the ground.” Witnesses said Marten then hit two more people before demanding to see police officers. He remained at the scene until police arrived. Marten, who is apparently homeless, was watching people play chess in the park and reportedly complained that nobody wanted to play chess with him prior to the attack, according to 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria. Police are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime, according to NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. Marten already faces felony assault charges. Via NY Daily News reports : Lamis Chapman, 12, and Khalia Wilson, 14, were playing handball at 9:30 p.m. in a park near their home in the Lester Patterson Houses in Mott Haven. The girls said police approached them, and told them to leave because the park was closed. Police followed them out, the girls said, and one grabbed Khalia from behind in a chokehold, wrestling her to the ground. “They said they asked for ID. I didn’t hear them,” Khalia said. Lamis said she told the cop to get off her sister, and the officer’s female partner threw Lamis to the ground. As they lay on the ground, the girls, who are Muslim, said the cops ripped off their hijabs, a Muslim headscarf. “They didn’t say anything,” Khalia added. “I kept saying, ‘I’m 14! What are you doing? We’re not bad kids.’” A crowd quickly gathered, with many pleading with police to let the girls go, the sisters said. Police called for backup, and within moments, dozens of cops swarmed the scene. The girls’ brother, Shytike Wilson, 15, saw the cops straddling his sisters from his window and raced downstairs. “I asked them why my sisters were in handcuffs,” Shytike said. “They charged me, picked me up, and slammed me on the floor.” Jonathan Harris, an 18-year-old college student, said he heard the girls’ screams and ran to the park. He said he told the cops to leave the girls alone, then took out his cell phone to record the female officer atop Lamis. “Come here, you little motherf—er,” the cop said, according to Harris. “You like recording?” Harris said he sprinted towards a nearby building, but an officer caught him and tackled him, pushing his face in the dirt, and wrenching his arm behind his back. He said one officer punched him in his eye while he was down. “Where’s the phone?” the officer screamed, Harris said. “I’ll break your arm.” Harris said he was also pepper-sprayed during the melee. Police claim that cops were in the process of escorting the kids out of the park when their brother grabbed one of the girls away from the officers. Harris was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental function. Police claim two cops were hospitalized for scrapes, bruises and sprains. A mom blogger recently responded to a note left on her car window – accusing her of not being disabled – in a blog post that has gone viral. The brief, anonymous note expressed “shame” on the mom for parking in a handicapped spot, when she “clearly” does not need to do so. But the author missed a key point: Her young daughter, who was with her at the park, is very much disabled. She uses a wheelchair, in fact. Yeah. As if that weren’t enough, the mom’s older daughter also has special needs and is allowed to use the disabled parking permit for different reasons. All of this led to an all-time rebuke by Suzanne Perryman. But looking at her, you wouldn’t know she has the same progressive metabolic disorder as her younger sister. She doesn’t have a wheelchair, but she has the same rights — all invisible to YOU from the perspective of your world. I recognize where you are from. I used to live there, too. I used to have checked-off lists, awards touting my accomplishments, perfect hair, great skin, sparkly eyes, a quick wit, a clean car, a social life, a large social network, an organized calendar, vacation plans set in stone and no overdue library books. But then I became a mom. And unexpectedly, a mom of a special needs child. A child with no life-long guarantee, no definitive prognosis and no detailed treatment plans. Now my family has good doctors, a good attitude and a good family life. My life is good, but not so easily structured. My skin is not so healthy, my hair often flyaway, my eyes most often tired. I am up multiple times throughout the night, I rise at 5 and go full speed until 9 at night, still stymied and determined to do more each and every day. I miss the friendships I used to have, the once-so-easy-to-achieve professional accomplishments, but I don’t miss the world you live in. I am a kinder woman who lives in a world that is no longer black and white. Sometimes gray is good, a salvation, a retreat from something that could be much worse. My priorities were reshuffled for me, and now I would never think to judge another. I am always in motion and I am grateful. Grateful for the touch of my child who needs my hands to steady her, grateful for my child who craves my words to calm her, my child who needs my hugs to soothe her. Daily News that Kim Kardashian is coming up with a line for babies featuring “soft colors, pastels, something very dreamy and still trendy.” With just a touch of desperation sprinkled in.
