Get Well: Tracy Morgan Rushed To Utah Hospital After Falling Unconscious At Sundance, Rep Says Altitude — Not Alcohol — Is To Blame

There’s nothing funny about this one. Tracy Morgan was being honored at a Sundance Film Festival event yesterday when sources say he was acting extremely intoxicated. The comedian ended up FALLING OUT after the event, but his rep says he had nothing to drink and blames it on the altitude. According to TMZ reports : Tracy Morgan was rushed to a hospital at the Sundance Film Festival — after the actor fell unconscious at an award ceremony … TMZ has learned. Tracy was being honored at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards in Park City, Utah — and sources tell TMZ, he appeared extremely intoxicated during his award acceptance speech. We’re told Tracy was escorted out of the building soon after his speech — and fell unconscious outside the building. Law enforcement sources tell us, an ambulance was then dispatched to Tracy’s location. We’re told Tracy was picked up and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Amy Roberts, a spokeswoman for Park City Medical Center, tells TMZ no drugs or alcohol were found in Tracy’s system upon medical evaluation. Morgan’s rep, Lewis Kay, also released a statement saying, “From a combination of exhaustion and altitude, Tracy is seeking medical attention.” Kay adds, “He is with his fiancée and grateful to the Park City Medical Center for their care. Any reports of Tracy consuming alcohol are 100% false.” Tracy make sure you keep rested! It might sound crazy but altitude really can have some crazy effects on folks. More On Bossip! Tom Cruise Sings ‘Like An Opera Singer’ In ‘Rock Of Ages’

‘He’s Superman to me. He can do anything he sets his mind to,’ co-star Malin Akerman says. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Tom Cruise in “Rock of Ages” Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures PARK CITY, Utah — He can run. He can climb cliff sides without harnesses. Heck, he can even scale the surface of the world’s tallest building . And now, for his next trick, Tom Cruise will truly do the impossible: sing his heart out in front of moviegoers nationwide. The “Mission Impossible” actor will next be seen as fictional rock god Stacee Jaxx in “Rock of Ages,” director Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the Broadway musical. If you think it’s bizarre casting, take it from Cruise’s costar, Malin Akerman — according to her, there is literally nothing that Cruise can’t do, carrying a tune included. “He’s brilliant. You’re going to be blown away,” Akerman told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival , which she’s attending as an ambassador for the Brita FilterForGood Music Project campaign. “His voice is ridiculous.” Akerman should know. As reporter Constance Sack, she only has one musical number in “Rock of Ages” — a cover of “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner — which she sings opposite Cruise. “I auditioned with Cruise. We did our scene together and then I had to sing in the studio [for a musical audition],” she said of landing the role. “My role was actually one of the last ones cast, so I was the last onboard and had the least amount of prep [time]. It was nerve-wracking, to have to go in and sing in the audition.” But Akerman says any anxiety was transformed into elation when performing opposite Cruise, a Hollywood icon she likens to an equally iconic superhero. “He’s Superman to me. He can do anything he sets his mind to,” she said, adding that on top of his talent as an actor and his ability to perform breathtaking stunts, Cruise can also “sing like an opera singer.” “When you’re with Tom, you give it your all,” Akerman said. “It was really amazing and surreal.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Neil Young Angered By ‘Sound Of Music Today’

‘We’re in the 21st century and we have the worst sound that we’ve ever had,’ Young tells MTV News at Sundance Film Festival. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Neil Young Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — It’s hard to argue about the digital age of music in terms of efficiency and portability. When it comes down to cycling through shelves upon shelves of old CDs versus taking one’s entire library of music on the go in a single handheld device, the choice seems rather clear. But convenience aside, there is something missing in the digital translation of tunes — at least there is according to legendary folk rocker Neil Young, who spoke with MTV News in Park City (where he’s promoting the Slamdance release of his new Jonathan Demme-helmed documentary “Neil Young Journeys”) and expressed his concerns over the current state of “the sound of music.” “I’m finding that I have a little bit of trouble with the quality of the sound of music today,” Young said. “I don’t like it. It just makes me angry. Not the quality of the music, but we’re in the 21st century and we have the worst sound that we’ve ever had. It’s worse than a 78 [rpm record]. Where are our geniuses? What happened?” Young argued that MP3s feature only 5 percent of the data from an original master file, which he sees as a major problem. “If you’re an artist and you created something and you knew the master was 100 percent great, but the consumer got 5 percent, would you be feeling good?” he asked. “I like to point that out to artists. That’s why people listen to music differently today. It’s all about the bottom and the beat driving everything, and that’s because in the resolution of the music, there’s nothing else you can really hear. The warmth and the depth at the high end is gone.” The singer-songwriter likened the current state of music to an equally present political movement: “It’s like Occupy Music — the 5 percent, that’s who we are now. We used to be the hundred percent!” Young isn’t unilaterally dissatisfied with the modern era of music, however. He said he’s pleased by the returning popularity of the folk genre, for instance, particularly in the hands of capable musicians like Mumford and Sons and My Morning Jacket. “Mumford and Sons and My Morning Jacket are great bands,” Young said. “I love them both and I know them well. I feel good about saying that.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Daniel Radcliffe Is ‘Phenomenal,’ Elizabeth Olsen Raves

‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ actress is getting ready to star opposite Radcliffe in the thriller ‘Kill Your Darlings.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Cillian Murphy and Elizxabeth Olson Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Daniel Radcliffe is no longer just the Boy Who Lived — at this stage, he’s the Man Who Flourished. Indeed, Radcliffe has kept his post-“Potter” career very interesting, what with a turn as a horror lead in next month’s “Woman in Black,” a lengthy run on Broadway in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and even a hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live” earlier this year. He’s set to keep his fans guessing even further with his next confirmed movie, “Kill Your Darlings,” which tells the tale of how Beat Generation icons Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr first met — and how that meeting eventually led to murder. Radcliffe plays Ginsberg in the film, and starring opposite him is up-and-coming actress Elizabeth Olsen. The brilliant young star of “Martha Marcy May Marlene” spoke with MTV News about joining the cast of “Kill Your Darlings,” making her admiration for the “Harry Potter” star very well-known. “He is so phenomenal,” Olsen said at the Sundance Film Festival , where she’s repping the paranormal thriller “Red Lights.” “He’s an incredible person. He’s so funny and smart and fun. He’s such a good guy.” Olsen is just one small cog in the greater machine of “Kill Your Darlings,” according to the actress. She said she only appears in “three scenes of that movie” as Edie Parker, girlfriend of Jack Kerouac. “Edie Parker is the one who introduced Ginsberg to Lucien Carr and Jack Kerouac,” she explained of her role. “She’s kind of the glue between them. I’m just there for a few scenes to explain that part of the story. But her personal life is really, really incredible.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Bin Laden Movie Remains Top-Secret, Joel Edgerton Says

The actor also spoke with MTV News about the ‘very subtle’ use of 3-D in ‘The Great Gatsby.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Joel Edgerton Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Joel Edgerton could tell you about Kathryn Bigelow ‘s untitled Osama Bin Laden movie, but then he’d have to kill you. OK, perhaps it’s not as dramatic as all of that. Still, the “Wish You Were Here” actor spoke briefly with MTV News about starring in the Navy Seal thriller alongside Chris Pratt and Jessica Chastain , and while he’s “very excited” to start shooting the film, his lips are sealed on the top-secret op. “I can’t really tell you anything about it,” he told MTV during the Sundance Film Festival . “I don’t know that I can’t tell you anything about it, but I’d be very ill informed to talk about it at this point. But I’m just excited to work with all of those guys.” Edgerton was much more inclined to talk about “The Great Gatsby,” Baz Luhrmann ‘s upcoming adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic. The Australian actor, who stars in “Gatsby” as drunken socialite Tom Buchanan, spoke at length about Luhrmann’s “very subtle” use of 3-D in the film. “3-D is absolutely the right thing for [the film],” said Edgerton. “I’ve seen sections of the movie and it sort of invites you in. It’s not like spectacle 3-D; you’re not being confronted by things blowing at your head. But it invites you in. What it does psychologically is very interesting, and I think you’ll forget you’re watching 3-D.” “Also, it’s lavish,” he continued. “That era was so lavish. The ’20s was about excess, so why not add a bit of excess to the filmmaking as well?” For those who remain skeptical of the use of 3-D in “Gatsby,” Edgerton expects negative opinions to change when the movie is released this December. “Baz knows absolutely everything he’s doing,” he said. “I’m really excited for all the people [groaning] about 3-D to see the movie. I hope everybody is crossing their arms and frowning to begin with, because I think they’ll unfurl by the time they see it.” What do you think of the use of 3-D in “The Great Gatsby”? Peter Jackson Explains ‘Hobbit’/’Lord Of The Rings’ Link

Director tells MTV News at Sundance how he plans to keep his latest journey to Middle-earth consistent with the ‘Rings’ trilogy. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Peter Jackson at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — The first trailer for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” made it quite clear that Middle-earth hasn’t changed much in the years since Peter Jackson concluded his “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. That’s not a complaint, mind you — fans have come to know and love Jackson’s interpretation of the J. R. R. Tolkien fantasy epic with the same passion they have for the source material. When it comes to “The Hobbit,” in other words, change is not necessarily welcome. Speaking with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival , Jackson explained that it was always his intention to keep “The Hobbit” tonally and visually consistent with the “Lord of the Rings” films. “We wanted it to be a part of the five-film series,” he explained. “Fortunately, Tolkien wrote a lot of extra material in the appendices of ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ where he himself kind of tied the two stories together, 20 or 30 years after the publication of ‘The Hobbit.’ So we’ve been able to use some of that material.” But even though Jackson’s “Hobbit” isn’t “as much of a children’s story as the original book was,” he’s worked hard to make sure the films still “have some humor” to them. For example, Jackson promised that “some of the songs [from the novel] have made their way in there.” Fans can get their first taste of those tunes in the “Hobbit” trailer, when the dwarves gather in Bilbo Baggins’ humble abode to sing a somber song. Finding that balance between staying true to the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy while allowing the “Hobbit” films to stand on their own has been an enjoyable challenge for Jackson, who is more than thrilled to once again be dabbling in dwarves and dragons. “I’m enjoying the movie [as much as the fans], which is the thing that I’m really excited about,” he said. “I love going to work every day. I love shooting it. In February, we start another 100 days of shooting, so by about July, we’re done. We will have shot both movies by that stage.” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” storms into theaters December 14. ‘West Of Memphis’ Offers New Evidence In West Memphis Three Saga

Peter Jackson-produced documentary, premiering Friday at Sundance, contains new info about the murders. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Peter Jackson at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images PARK CITY, Utah — The Peter Jackson -produced documentary ” West of Memphis ” premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday (January 20), chronicling the conviction, imprisonment and eventual release of West Memphis Three defendants Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, who were convicted in 1994 of brutally murdering three young boys in Arkansas, despite an overwhelming amount of reasons to believe otherwise. Though Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley were released from prison in August, they have still not been exonerated for the murders. “West of Memphis” aims to present new revelations about their innocence and another man’s role in the crime, and as such, the documentary is something of an ever-evolving work — so much so that a new, crucial interview was just shot and added to the documentary in the last week. “Some witnesses came forward a very short time ago,” Jackson told MTV News about the new revelations. “[Director Amy Berg ] was able to interview them about six days ago. We only just managed to get that particular interview with two young men into the movie, in time for the screenings today. It’s some fairly serious eyewitness statements that I think are going to hopefully push the resolution of the case a little bit further.” Though the documentary is set to make its world premiere at Sundance, Jackson insists that the story is far from over. “This is a story that has not come to an end yet. In fact, it’s very much not ended,” he said. “We have three guys that were released from prison but not exonerated, even though they did not do the crime. We have three young boys who were murdered in 1993, and the killer still walks free. So absolutely, this is not the end of the story. It’s ongoing. It’s literally developing on a daily basis right now.” “West of Memphis” isn’t the first documentary about the trial. The “Paradise Lost” trilogy of documentaries — the last of which made its TV debut last week on HBO — also aimed to prove the West Memphis Three’s innocence. REVIEW: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close? More Like Utterly Dull and Mostly Insufferable

In 2005, when Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was published, Walter Kirn, writing in the New York Times Book Review , summed up the book’s “grand ambition” this way: “To take on the most explosive subject available while showing no passion, giving no offense, adopting no point of view and venturing no sentiment more hazardous than that history is sad and brutal and wouldn’t it be nicer if it weren’t.” Kirn couldn’t, at that point, have seen Stephen Daldry’s film adaptation of the book. But with that sentence, he pretty much wrote the review in advance. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close tells the story of Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn), a perpetually wan 9-year-old New Yorker struggling with his father’s death in the events of 9/11. Dad Thomas (Tom Hanks, playing a particularly insufferable kind of ultra-reasonable dadness) was a jeweler by trade, but only because he wanted to make a decent life for himself, his wife Linda (an efficient but bloodless Sandra Bullock) and young Oskar. In reality, he was a science-nerd know-it-all type who would send Oskar out on field expeditions to discover new things about the city, and, it turns out, to get him comfortable talking to people. Oskar is a bit awkward in that department — at one point he precociously announces that he was once tested for “Asperger’s Disease,” but that “the results were inconclusive.” But of course. Oskar is obviously traumatized by his father’s death, not least because in the last minutes of his life dad left several increasingly doomy messages on the family’s home answering machine, messages Oskar heard when he was sent home early from school on that fateful day. But he never tells his mother about them; instead, he turns inside himself, trying to hang onto scraps of memories of his father. Until, one day, rooting around in his parents’ closet he finds (and breaks) a vase. Inside is a small envelope, marked with the name “Black” and containing a key. Oskar takes it upon himself to locate every person named Black in the five boroughs, paying each a personal visit (on foot — the subway, along with most other things in the city, makes him anxious). He catalogs these names and visits meticulously, pasting mementos of his search in a scrapbook. He also scratches at his skin, lashes out at his mother, and indulges in a never-ending stream of obnoxious-whiz-kid quips and insights, including a breathless interior monologue about the multitudinous things in New York (people eating, sneakers wrapped around phone lines, and so forth) that give him the heebie-jeebies. Poor little Oskar! Such an adorable, pint-sized heap of neuroses. What better mouthpiece for an author, or a filmmaker, to use as a way of exploring the personal cost of a great communal tragedy. Do you get the idea that Oskar must emerge from his own teeny-tiny personal prison and, yes, embrace the world? Never has the tragedy of 9/11 been made so shrinky-dinked. Daldry has made a career out of taking acclaimed works of literary fiction ( The Hours , The Reader ) and transforming them into snoozy, self-congratulatory, assertively tasteful movies, the equivalent of book clubs that pride themselves on choosing only “quality” books. But he’s outdone himself with Incredibly Close ; there’s something cloistered and cushy about it, as if it were a movie made by Upper East Siders for Upper East Siders (the Park Avenue sort, not the 86th-and-Lex sort). Oskar isn’t supposed to be rich; though it’s not clear what his mother does, his father is a rather modest sort of jeweler. But the family does live in a building with a doorman (played by a gruff, grumpy John Goodman) and a big, clean, well-lit marble lobby — I don’t need to tell you what that kind of real estate generally costs in New York. And when Oskar is let out of school early on that horrific day, he seems to be far enough uptown that that mythical downtown, where all the terrible stuff was happening, really does seem miles away. You may also be interested to note that many of the Blacks Oskar encounters in his investigation are, yes, actually black. (Those would include Viola Davis and Jeffrey Wright, playing two people who may or may not hold the answer Oskar is looking for. Their performances are as believable as possible, considering their characters, as written, are practically made of cardboard.) That means Oskar gets experience talking to actual black people , some of them from the lower classes. How wonderful! You can’t buy that sort of education at the Browning School. Mostly, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close isn’t even offensive. It’s too dull and spineless to get much of a rise out of you. Shot by Chris Menges, it does give us a lush, rich, patchwork-style view of New York. But even then, there’s something too novel about the workaday food-cart vendors and pedestrians who people the movie’s universe — it’s all a bit too sparkling, too easy. Alexandre Desplat gives us one of his scribbled-on-a-napkin scores, as opposed to one of his great ones: It’s timid and nice and tiptoeing, a lot like the movie itself. In fact, even though the subject matter is very different, the picture Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close most closely resembles is Peter Jackson’s botched version of Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones . Like that movie, it offers a view of childhood that comes from an adult who’s constantly looking over his shoulder, rather than from a real — even a fictitiously real — child. The only bright spot in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is Max von Sydow, as a mysterious, and mysteriously mute, older gent who, as Oskar tells us in one of his incessant voiceovers, lived in Dresden during the war and “went through some really bad stuff.” Like, maybe even 9/11 bad. If you’re the kind of moviegoer who ducks when you see an extremely loud metaphor headed your way, you don’t need me to tell you that that one is coming incredibly close. REVIEW: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close? More Like Utterly Dull and Mostly Insufferable

My Bieber Experience was on November 17th 2011. I could hardly…

My Bieber Experience was on November 17th 2011 . I could hardly get through 5 hours of school that day knowing I would be meeting Justin at the Pencils Of Promise Gala that night! I left school at 1 and went straight to the hair salon to get my hair and makeup done! It was 5:30pm when we got into the room where the meet and greet was. While we were waiting for Justin to come,  I met  Adam Braun and Sophia Bush! I was so excited to meet Justin, I wasn’t functioning. After an hour of just walking around and talking with everyone else in the room, Justin walked in with Scooter, Carin and Alfredo! They told everyone not to scream! Everyone obviously freaked out anyway as he walked in and got ready to take pictures with everyone! I was waiting on the end of the line hoping that I’d be next to him in the picture! I watched Justin take pictures with everyone. As I was waiting, I saw a girl try and get an autograph. She asked him if he could sign her phone and he nicely said that he wasn’t allowed to because they weren’t letting him sign things. I had a sharpie so I figured I was just going to ask anyway when it was my turn and see what happens! It was finally my turn! I walked up to Justin with the sharpie in my hand. I said “Hi” He asked how I was and i said “Good how are you?” He said he was going great.  Then I held out my phone to see if he’d sign it! The security guard, (not Kenny someone who was running the meet and greet) saw the sharpie in my hand and saw me holding out my phone and was automatically saying, “Sorry were not doing signatures tonight”. As he said that, Justin interrupted him and was like, “No no no, don’t worry she’s cool” and took the sharpie from my hand. I DIED. We took the picture and I gave him a hug and left! It was amazing!  *AT THE GALA* The meet and greet was over and it was time to go to the Gala! We checked in at the front and the lady told us we’d be sitting at table 9, and that there was 60 tables in the room! We walked over to our table which happened to be RIGHT INFRONT OF THE STAGE where people would make speeches and stuff! I was so excited and I really wanted to know where Justin would sit! We sat down and waited for more people to come inside since we were one of the first ones to get there! More and more people started showing up and the tables were filling up. All of a sudden I saw Usher and Jaden Smith come in and sit two tables away from me! I walked up to Jaden and took a picture with him! I was just about to sit back down when I saw Kenny coming towards the table I was at with a lot of people following him. It took me time to realize that the people following him were Justin, Alfredo, Pattie, and Justin’s Grandparents! They all walked over and sat down at table 10. (THE TABLE DIRECTLY NEXT TO MINE!) I just sat there staring at Justin for a good 5 minutes until it was the time where you were just aloud to walk around the room and talk to everyone. A lot of people were crowding around Justin’s table, but none of his fans were so I figured I would go over to them and see what would happen. I walked up to the table and talked to Pattie and Kenny who were both so so so nice! Justin was standing up talking to Jaden and it was really really crowded and everyone was really tight so I figured I would just go back to my seat and wait a little and then go back over there when it cleared up! I was just about to go back when I turned around and realized Justin and I were awkwardly standing right next to each other…I had no idea what to do with myself. I had my camera in my hand so I was like, “Can I get a picture with you?” (I know I already took one with him but I had nothing else to say) and he was like, “I’m so sorry they aren’t letting me take pictures right now!” and i was like “Oh ok it’s fine!” I don’t know how I managed to say this, it was the bravest thing I’ve ever done, but I was like, “CAN I HAVE ANOTHER HUG?” He was like, “Haha OF COURSE!” and opened his arms. He gave me the BIGGEST HUG and I walked away shaking like crazy and sat back in my seat. The whole rest of the night was amazing and I made my way over to table 10 as many times as I could! It was the best night of my life and I’ll never forget it!  -@nicoleeex17  Read this article: My Bieber Experience was on November 17th 2011. I could hardly…
