Wall Street Protesters ‘Still Have Faith In The Future’

‘All of my adult life has been economic downturn,’ a young activist tells MTV News about corporate greed, unemployment, social injustice. By Uptin Saiidi, with additional reporting by Akshay Bhansali Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City Photo: Mario Tama/Getty Images NEW YORK — What started as just a dozen college students camping overnight on Wall Street three weeks ago has mushroomed into thousands of protesters and Street-inspired gatherings across the country, from Los Angeles to Boston. On Monday, a number of protesters dressed up as zombies, holding Monopoly money in their mouths in a gesture to financial workers. The crowd was especially energized after more than 700 of them were arrested over the weekend by New York City Police Department officers, who claimed they were blocking traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. Thousands marched from the “base camp” at Zuccotti Park, a plaza near the city’s financial center, chanting, “Take the bridge!” Even as the number of protesters continues to fluctuate, the gatherings have remained relatively small by New York City standards. The longevity of the unrest, however, is far from normal. MTV News recently headed downtown and caught up with some of the young protesters to see what exactly was on their minds. Mike Chrisemer, a 24-year-old graduate student at the City University of New York, said he got involved on the second day of the protest and doesn’t plan to abandon the cause. “The general feeling is that the top 1 percent of people is ruling over the rest of us, the 99 percent, and it’s not the status quo that we want to see anymore.” Sympathetic supporters have been donating food to the “occupiers,” and those who camp overnight at the park rely on portable gas for laptop energy. Social media networks like Twitter have, of course, helped spark interest in the cause and serve as a vehicle to spread its message. For those who cannot get to NYC, a live stream is available at the Occupy Wall Street website . Celebrity involvement has also helped stoke media attention. Lupe Fiasco , Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo and filmmaker Michael Moore made appearances in the past week, while “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin has expressed support over his Twitter At around 1 p.m. ET last Friday, an online rumor began to spread that Radiohead would be giving a surprise performance that afternoon in support of the protest. The buzz was put to rest when the band’s rep later denied the group would perform, but it’s likely that many curious onlookers (and Radiohead fans) had headed to the park anticipating the event. By 4:30 p.m., a statement was posted on the Occupy Wall Street site apologizing for the miscommunication; they further explained that an email from Radiohead’s manager turned out to be a fake and cited the challenges of verifying information in an open-source movement. The band’s no-show didn’t slow down momentum though. Late Friday afternoon, an influx of curious spectators wandered the park, many admitting they came after hearing the concert rumors. “That probably brought a lot of these people here, but they’re still here. It’s not just about Radiohead, it’s not a pop culture movement, it’s a real movement to challenge the status quo,” Chrisemer told us. The protests come at a time when the unemployment rate among American youths under 25 is at 18 percent compared to the national rate of 9 percent. Nearly half of young Americans are underemployed, and the amount of student loan debt has recently surpassed credit card debt. Tim Payne, a 20-year-old New York University undergrad, said he had been coming to the park between classes to hold signs and participate in the protest. “College tuition keeps going up and the top 400 people have more wealth than the lowest 125 million. I have all these loans out and they’re profiting off that, and I don’t think that’s fair.” Some reports have been critical of the protesters for reportedly failing to deliver a clear message about their grievances. Instead, critics say, the rally has become a gathering place for anyone dissatisfied with, well, just about anything. When MTV News spoke with some of the young activists on Friday, their cardboard signs had messages that varied from dissatisfaction with financial corruption, NYPD police brutality, discrimination against Muslims and workers’ rights. “People have so much frustration with government and media, and they’re taking this out as an outlet in different ways,” NYU student Payne explained. It’s still unclear whether the protests will succeed in channeling frustration into a lasting movement similar to the Tea Party’s conservative movement, which was started in 2009 by a group of Americans fed up with the status quo for different reasons. Occupy Wall Street protesters seem to be hopeful that they will have a voice that continues to be heard and gains momentum into the 2012 elections. “It’s more than just Wall Street,” Payne added. “It’s the fact that all of my adult life has been economic downturn. And I heard a quote once: it was ‘When did the future change from a promise to a threat?’ I feel like the people here still have faith in the future and are trying to change it.” Share your thoughts on the ongoing Wall Street protests in the comments below! Selma Blair’s a New Mom in a See Through Shirt of the Day

Selma Blair had a baby. Now she is working off her baby weight like so many women I watch in the park doing their post pregnancy classes, stretching and sweating in efforts to regain the use of their bodies, hopefully tightening up their vaginas, but never fully restoring their shit, cuz like so many women before them, having a kid is pretty much the equivalent of writing off being at your best, but at least it feeds some kind of ego that they are leaving a legacy, while giving their hormones exactly what they need, since being a mom is all part of being a woman….or some shit…I won’t understand cuz I’m too busy staring at their tits, like the frat boy I’ve always hated….because like it or not…all dudes, even the classy and educated ones are fucking perverts….and we all like our milk filled tits….so nourishing…

Anna Paquin Works Up A Sweat

Normally I wouldn’t have a problem posting a bunch of pictures of some young TV star working out, mostly because I would imagine they’d involve some hottie getting a frappaccino in some tight ass yoga pants and high heels, but this is not one of those moments. Here’s Anna Paquin actually working out her wiry body in a rotten high-school boy’s gym outfit. What the hell? If you’re going to get sweaty and gross and actually get a workout that’s fine, but do it inside where nobody can see you. Outside workouts are supposed to be half assed stretching in the park with your hot friends in tight outfits. Remember that.

Jessica Alba Milk Filled Mom Tits of the Day

Here are some Jessica Alba milk filled mom tits on a mom body being exposed as much as this prude exposes her tits because she wants to be respected for her acting skills and in doing that has become the biggest cock tease… I thought child birth is supposed to make women desperate for male attention while struggling with post partum depression and a vagina hanging down to their knees….at least that’s what I tell myself everytime I go to the park and watch mom and baby yoga classes…or see a bitch breast feeding for attention and not cuz her baby is hungry….cuz pulling out a tit when trapped in life…just makes fucking sense…. I just hope things change for her and all the doctors proding with her cunt make her return to acting very naked, cuz naked will be all the work she can get, in a time she’s finally secure with her body…even though she should have been secure with her body back when she was 19 and tight…. Who cares.

Matt And Kim Amped To Open Blink-182, My Chemical Romance Tour

‘Our energy is in the same place,’ Matt tells MTV News of his headlining tourmates on Honda Civic dates. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker, with additional reporting by Morgan Schwartz Photo: Getty Images Matt and Kim have been recording material at the brand-new Converse Rubber Tracks recording studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. MTV News went there to catch up with the indie/pop duo, and while they mostly kept quiet about any new songs, they did talk to us about their recent Sidewalks Tour as well as their new opening-act gig on the Honda Civic Tour with Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance. The animated Brooklyn-based musicians couldn’t seem to contain their excitement about joining Blink and MCR. “This year has been just a nonstop year,” Matt gushed. “We didn’t want to stop!” Kim said of their headlining Sidewalks Tour. “We wanted to add more dates, we wanted to keep going.” Matt and Kim will begin touring with Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance this month, and they plan to bring it, knowing that some fans at the venues may not be familiar with their music yet. “At our shows, it’s not just like one type of audience member,” Matt explained of the kinds of crowds they’re used to seeing. “It’s people who are into all different kinds of music.” As for playing in front of the fanbases of two different bands on the tour, Matt and Kim aren’t fretting. “Even though musically we might sound a bit different than those two bands, our energy is in the same place,” Matt said, referring to the three groups’ shared love of stage-diving, crowd-surfing and moshing. “There’s a big difference between playing for, you know, 3,000 people at our show to playing to a 20,000-person place, where people might not know any of your songs,” Matt admitted with a smile. “But I feel we play a simple enough music, so upbeat and melody-driven, that on a first listen, people can almost be singing along to the songs by the end.” Fans can catch Matt and Kim on the Honda Civic Tour with Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance beginning September 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wiz Khalifa, The Kills, More Bring Eclectic Sounds To Bumbershoot

Ray LaMontagne, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Big Boi and Kendrick Lamar rock Seattle fest over Labor Day weekend. By Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa performs at Bumbershoot on Saturday Photo: Dana Nalbandian/ Getty Images SEATTLE — Nestled in the shadow of the Space Needle, the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival boasted an eclectic lineup of headliners, with Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs, Wiz Khalifa , and Daryl Hall and John Oates topping each night of the three-day festival over Labor Day weekend. But it was Wiz who ran away with the biggest draw of the headliners, packing the Seattle Center’s Key Arena to capacity on night two. The Pittsburgh MC took the stage Saturday night and announced, “My name is Wiz Khalifa. Y’all ready to party tonight?” If the haze of smoke wafting from the crowd was any indicator, then his Taylor Gang was definitely in the mood. And it was impossible for them to avoid a good time — Wiz commanded the stage with the swagger of a rock star and his entire set boomed with bone-rattling bass. The inclusion of “The Thrill,” off 2009’s Burn After Rolling mixtape and set to Empire of the Sun’s “Walking on a Dream,” was definitely a plus. While Wiz held it down on the main stage inside the Key Arena, across the park the Kills unleashed their brand of electro-blues on the Fisher Green Stage. The duo’s latest album, Blood Pressures, dropped recently this spring, but the band shared with MTV News that the new material was already taking on a heavier, more aggressive sound. As far as the stage show, singer Alison Mosshart said, “Well we’re playing kind of a typical Kills, you know, if we were playing in a club. We’re gonna do as much of a club show outside as we possibly can.” Guitarist Jamie Hince added, “It’s gonna be nice actually, ’cause we’ll be able to see that — won’t we? — the Space Needle, from the stage. I’m gonna like that.” The Seattle landmark wasn’t the only iconic presence at the festival. Washington natives the Lonely Forest were in awe of the Key Arena, the previous home of their beloved Seattle Supersonics (frontman John Van Deusen even wore a Sonics jersey onstage). Despite their early set on Sunday, the band pulled a considerably large crowd. Lonely Forest guitarist Tony Ruland was thrilled with the turnout. “It was the first time that we played anything that ends in the word ‘arena,’ ” he said, adding that it was the same venue in which he saw one of his favorite acts, Built to Spill. While Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar was tasked with the same set time the following day, his crowd began much smaller, but it grew as his show went on. “Yeah, I was catching them while they were walking in,” Lamar told MTV News later. “They had a crazy response — had a lot of new Kendrick Lamar fans, as well as day-ones in there — so it was like half and half. But that’s when I like to catch ’em, you know, when they’re early, so I can make them a believer as soon as they walk in. That’s my whole thing, catching them one at a time and building from that.” OutKast’s Big Boi followed Lamar’s set and ripped into a medley of classic hits that included “ATLiens,” “Rosa Parks,” and “So Fresh, So Clean.” Daddy Fat Sax had the large crowd inside the Key Arena moving with him, as they sang along to the duo’s deep catalog. It was barely noticeably that his counterpart, Andre 3000, was absent from the stage. Sir Lucious Leftfoot even threw in Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” no doubt in honor of late frontman Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday on Monday. Local acts Brite Futures and Macklemore proved to be the hometown heroes at Bumbershoot, each delivering impressive performances over the weekend. Related Artists Wiz Khalifa The Kills

Christina Aguilera Irate Over Child Abuse Claim, Lawyer Releases Statement

Christina Aguilera is positively furious, and for very good reason. Earlier in the week, the website MediaTakeOut published a picture of the singer’s son and wrote the headline: “CHILD ABUSE???? CHRISTINA AGUILERA’S SON IS PHOTO’D WITH A BLACK EYE!!!” Aguilera, who remained above the fray when called out by Kelly Osbourne , didn’t sit idly by in the face of such an accusation and called upon her lawyer to issue a statement. Wrote Eric Greenspan to the site in question: “Christina is a wonderful mother and was not present in the park when Max fell and hurt himself… To imply that she had something to do with this incident, without any investigation on your part whatsoever, is reckless and unconscionable.” The attorney then threatened a lawsuit and concluded: “HAVE YOU NO SHAME!!!!” MediaTakeOut has since changed the headline. Idiots. [Photo: WENN.com]

Max held on tight to the platinum blonde singer as they made their way through terminal. At some points Christina cradled and cuddled the little one, wrapping him up in a warm blanket. The Beautiful singer looked ever inch the worried mother as she kept a close eye on her son. Selena Gomez Sex Offender Concert of the Day

This Selena Gomez sex offender is much more fun to watch than the sex offender down the street who juggles in the park for some little kid attention….possibly cuz you may almost be a sex offender if you jerk off to her cuz she looks twelve, but you aren’t one cuz she’s 18, but she’s one cuz her boyfriend is 16, who if you jerk off thinking about her fucking, makes you a sex offender, even though I think it’s all a staged relationship, making her a big ball of confusing sex offense….here she is in concert.
