Police probe attempted murders at ‘T in the Park’

The Independent reports on a incident which happened during the T in the Park festival which put two men in hospital with serious injuries and is now being investigated as a attempted murder by detectives. “Two 20-year-old men were found with serious abdominal injuries on a walkway between the main arena and the campsite at around 11.50pm last night. “I would urge anyone who witnessed these incidents take place, or anyone who may have photographs or footage of the incident, to get in touch with us.”-Independent The paper also reports on separate incidents at the festival which are appealing for witnesses like the assault of a women near the bus area on Saturday. “Last night, police had arrested 56 people over the course of the event, with the number of people detained 10% down on last year.”-Independent added by: Mcellie

How Much Oil Is on the Gulf Coast? | Shocking Interactive Map

The map shows the amount of oil on the coastline as reported each day by the federal government based on information from air and ground surveys. The amount of oil on portions of the coastline often changes from day to day because of many factors, including recent visits by cleanup teams or tides washing in new oil. For the first month of the spill, the oil stayed mostly in the gulf. But in the last week of May, waves of oil began washing into Louisiana’s fragile wetlands and beaches. In June, oil landings began to be reported more frequently in the states to the east. Survey areas for Louisiana were first released on May 24 and for Mississippi, Alabama and Florida beginning on June 12. Survey data were not available for some days. Country legend Dolly Parton says she’s also looking out for the teen queen. “I’m her fairy godmother,” Parton told The Associated Press. The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and the blonde icon joined forces in May for a duet — a rendition of Parton’s 1973 hit single “Jolene” — during a celebration of Dollywood, the singer’s namesake Shangri-La. Parton showed the teen superstar some love after performing with her for the Hallmark Channel special taped earlier this year, commemorating 25 years of the Tennessee theme park. Miley has been getting some heat lately for what her critics say is an increasingly sexed-up image; a budding persona at odds with the inoffensive sass of the Disney series which launched the teen to stardom. However, Parton, who has built a decades-long career and entertainment empire blending sweet, down-home wholesomeness with bubbly, busty sex appeal, maintains that Cyrus is headed in the right direction. “I’m just real proud of her,” Parton said. “She does not need my advice, but she’s often asking for information and advice, and I tell her what I know, but I think the girl’s doing all right without me.” In addition to the Miley/Dolly duet, the special will feature performances from Kenny Rogers and Billy Ray, who has known Parton since he first burst onto the scene in the early ’90s with his mega-hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” Parton said the tribute show thoroughly represents the successful amusement park. “There are a lot of wonderful things,” she said. “It shows the park really great, and the audience and all the people that work here, so we’ve really covered it in every respect.” Should all teen pop stars have fairy godmothers and godfathers to look out for them? I don’t really get American sex offender laws. Bill Press: Glenn Beck Rally at Lincoln Memorial ‘Like Granting Al Qaeda Permission to Hold a Rally on Sept. 11 at Ground Zero’

It’s well known liberals don’t particularly care for Fox News host Glenn Beck, but wouldn’t be comparing him to al Qaeda be a bit much? On Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda attacks on the World Trade Center claimed the lives of over 2,700 people . So what does that have to do with Glenn Beck? Well according to liberal talker Bill Press, Beck’s plans to hold a rally at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28 are somehow akin to al Qaeda’s worldview. Press demanded the National Park Service revoke permission for Beck to hold a rally where Martin Luther King had given his “I have a dream” speech 47 years earlier. (h/t Outside the Beltway ) “In a slap at both President Lincoln and Dr. King, not to mention the American people, the National Park Service has given Glenn Beck permission to hold a Tea Party rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28 – 47 years to the day after Martin Luther King gave his magnificent ‘I Have A Dream’ speech,” Press wrote in a June 16 post on his blog . “If you ask me, that’s like granting al Qaeda permission to hold a rally on September 11 – at Ground Zero. What the hell were those bureaucrats at the Park Service thinking?” Press made similar remarks on his June 15 radio program , arguing the Lincoln Memorial was sacred and that it should not be “rented out like a cheap suit.” But even some of Press’ liberal audience had disagreed with the host, one suggesting if they had Press’ mentality 47 years ago, King might not have had the opportunity to speak at the memorial.

Megan Fox Hopes She’s ‘Lucky Enough’ To Have A Long Career

By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Megan Fox Photo: Bill Sloyer/ MTV News Sometimes, it’s hard to fathom that Megan Fox ‘s prominent place in the pop-culture conversation only dates back to her 2007 breakout role as Mikaela Banes in director Michael Bay’s “Transformers.” Since then, she’s appeared in four films and has two more completed projects on the way, including this weekend’s “Jonah Hex.” And if Fox has her way, she’ll be kicking around on the big screen for several more years to come. “If I’m lucky enough,” Fox told MTV News about her hopes to make her acting career a longtime commitment. “I mean, I would love the opportunity to do that. But that’s not really up to me; that’s up to the world.” Surely, the world would throw its support behind Fox’s desires to stay on the big screen, if only because of her incredibly entertaining offscreen antics (see: her notorious Michael Bay feud ). But Fox doesn’t believe she’s a provocative personality , so much as a misinterpreted one. “I don’t feel like I’ve ever necessarily said anything that was provocative,” she said. “I think that people take relatively innocent statements and turn them into provocative things. … People have no idea how to react. It’s not that the statement itself is outrageous.” As for what the future holds for Fox aside from “Jonah Hex,” the actress will be seen opposite Mickey Rourke in “Passion Play,” a film in which she plays a winged circus performer. Additionally, she remains attached to “Fathom,” an action film based on the comic book created by the late Michael Turner. MSNBC’s Brewer Annoyed at Barton’s ‘Shakedown’ Reference, But Colleague Ed Schultz Used It With Pride

In a satellite interview with Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-La.) held shortly before 1 p.m. EDT today, MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer criticized Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) for denouncing the president pushing BP to agree to a $20-billion escrow account for oil spill damages as a “shakedown”: So, there’s Joe Barton calling the $20 billion in escrow a shakedown, and as you point out, there are people in your district who have lost their livelihoods! They wonder how they can feed their families! But yesterday, Brewer’s MSNBC colleague Ed Schultz used similar language to voice his giddy approval of President Obama’s maneuvering : President Obama! You are the dude! The president takes the heads of BP behind closed doors, shakes them down for $20 billion, and gets an apology.  President Obama went behind closed doors today with Tony Hayward and the other suits from BP and informed them it’s time to pay.  If you go by today’s results, you’d have to say the President of the United States hit it out of the park. In his own way the President of the United States took on a multinational [corporation] shook ’em down for $20 billion for the American people. President Obama got more out of BP than the Congress ever has. The day before that, just two hours before President Obama’s Oval Office address, Schultz told viewers he hoped the president would sound “like a dictator” and would rhetorically speaking, press his “boot on the neck of BP tonight.”

Daniel Radcliffe Gives Roller-Coaster Tips At ‘Harry Potter’ Theme Park

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter on Wednesday Photo: Gustavo Caballero/ Getty Images Daniel Radcliffe plays the world’s most favorite wizard in the “Harry Potter” movies, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find magic in the real world. At Universal Orlando’s grand opening celebration for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the actor was particularly excited about the park’s signature roller coaster. “The Dragon Challenge roller coaster is a real standout for me,” he told MTV News of the coaster, which is actually a made-over version of an existing ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Radcliffe outlined his very specific procedure for riding roller coasters: “Make sure that [the harness is] really tight; you have to try to keep your eyes open and try to come out with the longest prolonged scream, and if all your hair hasn’t gone on one side of your head at the end, you haven’t done it right.” While Radcliffe was entranced by the Dragon Challenge, he was also impressed by the mind-boggling attention to detail of several parts of the Wizarding World. “Me and Rupert [Grint] stood outside Ollivander’s Wand Shop for five minutes this morning thinking we couldn’t go in. We were just impressed by the outside,” he said. But Radcliffe wasn’t as freaked out as he’d have thought about being so immersed in Harry Potter’s world but not on a movie set. “You know what, it’s not even odd. I suppose there was an element of it being odd this morning when I was walking around … [but] it’s amazing. It’s actually fantastic. “When we heard they were doing a ‘Harry Potter’ theme park, it’s one of those things where you think that can go either way,” he added. “In the wrong hands, that would not have been impressive, but these guys have just done the most bang-up, amazing job.
