Party Down Returns…Kind Of

After canceling Party Down and then brutally making both seasons of the comedy series unavailable , Starz is rightfully returning episodes to the show’s fans. Beginning August 24, the show’s last episodes will be available for purchase via iTunes, Amazon and Xbox. Furthermore, Party Down ‘s second season will go on sale Sept. 28, and fans will be able to stream episodes on Netflix again “sometime near the end of the year.” Now if only Lizzy Caplan could get the cast behind the Party Down film she offered to do for free … [ Vulture ]

A Party Down Movie?

The Veronica Mars feature may have never gotten off the ground but Lizzy Caplan is hoping that she and the Party Down crew can continue their catering careers for the big screen (even if that means that they’ll literally have to cater their own movie). “We want it so bad,” she told Hitfix last week about the latest Rob Thomas series to be killed before its time . “We could do it for no money, no time. We would do it for free. I just don’t know if we’re legally allowed to do it.” Chris Albrecht, do you have a problem with that? [ Hitfix ]

R.I.P. Party Down and Gravity

Sad news, Party Down -ers — Starz is not picking up the beloved but low-rated series for a third season, meaning you’ll just have to accept last Friday’s finale as the series closer. The network is also expected to announce that it is not picking up Gravity , the dark comedy starring Krysten Ritter, for a second season. At least we know that Party Down refugees are welcome elsewhere — too bad Lizzy Caplan got screwed for her loyalty . [ Deadline ]

Adam Scott Joins the Already Impressive My Idiot Brother

So, how about My Idiot Brother ? Not only does it star Paul Rudd as the titular idiot, but also Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer and Zooey Deschanel as his sisters. And Rashida Jones as Deschanel’s girlfriend . High fives all around! And now you can add Adam Scott to the roster as well. The Party Down star has been cast as Rudd’s neighbor in the film, presumably the deadpan one with the air of superiority and great hair. Between this and Parks and Recreation , it looks like someone is having himself a bit of a moment. [ The Playlist ]

Is There Hope for Party Down?

It turns out that Lizzy Caplan wasn’t kidding when she said she’d be loyal to Party Down until the bitter end. CBS is reportedly close to giving the comedy Mad Love a 13-episode pick-up for midseason, without Caplan on board. Caplan was in the original pilot but wouldn’t accept any overtures of commitment from CBS because of Party Down , and now it looks like her role is being recast with — fingers crossed — Judy Greer as the frontrunner. A television landscape with Party Down still airing and Judy Greer on a network show? Yes please. [ Deadline ]

Party Down’s Un-Festive Ratings

Megan Mullally’s first performance on Party Down last Friday went over in the ratings about as well as it went over at Movieline : terribly. The Starz comedy pulled in 126,000 viewers , only 10,000 more than its first season premiere. Maybe as Mullally arrived, all those other cast members left just in time . But fear not — it’s still too early to slap Party Down with the nickname In the Motherhood 2: Just Desserts . [ THR ]
