Lori Michaels: Danielle Staub Girlfriend or Pawn?

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Staub was spotted out partying again with her new “girlfriend,” singer Lori Michaels, in New York City. If you thought no one would stoop so low as to pretend to be bisexual and exploit the gay community for publicity, then you haven’t met Danielle Staub. They were hanging out all night, though, whatever it’s worth. Danielle and Lori attended Damon Dash’s birthday party at Lucky Strike in the Big Apple. The two “lovebirds” were up close and definitely having a good time. Tom Murro, from Celebrity Magnet , says the pair was “intertwined” at the soiree … Is Danielle Staub using Lori Michaels for publicity? “They were very kissy feely, all snuggled up,” he said. Sure were. She made sure it was caught on film, too. Looks like D only has eyes for one fake lover, though. After chatting with Danielle, Murro offered to show her the video of Elvira Garu, the show’s new vixen. Danielle slammed the blonde party planner and the show: “I have no interest in seeing that b!tch and don’t even watch the show,” the Bravo star snapped. Well, that settles that. Glad we’re able to report this breaking news. No word if there was a screening of the Danielle Staub sex tape at the party later.

CBS’s Chip Reid Rails Against Failure to Extend Unemployment Benefits: ‘Senate Republicans Are to Blame’

CBS’s Chip Reid on Thursday railed against the Senate for failing to extend unemployment benefits. The Evening News reporter opined, ” So who’s fault is that? On the surface, it appears Senate Republicans are to blame. Led by Mitch McConnell, they killed the bill with a filibuster .” At no point did Reid or fill-in anchor Scott Pelley discuss whether unemployment benefits should be extended yet again. The only culpability Democrats earned was for the lone member who sided with the Republicans. Reid chided, “Democrats also have themselves to blame. One Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, voted no. If he had voted with his party, the bill would have passed.” Pelley began the program by indignantly announcing, “We have decided to start with the 1.3 million Americans whose unemployment benefits have run out, stopped cold, in the last 30 days. And we’re starting there because the U.S. Senate went on vacation today without solving the problem.” Later, Pelley tried class warfare as he implied that the politicians who failed to pass the legislation were selfish: “You know, it may be worth noting that the vacationing senators make about $174,000 a year and enjoy lifetime health and pension benefits.” On Friday’s Early Show, reporter Rebecca Jarvis sounded a similar theme: “In Washington, for the third week in a row, Congress refused to extend jobless benefits for more than a million long-term unemployed, those out of work for more than six months. Then, lawmakers recessed for the holiday weekend. ” A transcript of the July 1 Evening News segment follows: SCOTT PELLEY: We have decided to start with the 1.3 million Americans whose unemployment benefits have run out, stopped cold, in the last 30 days. And we’re starting there because the U.S. Senate went on vacation today without solving the problem. … PELLEY: And as long as Congress fails to extend those benefits, another 375,000 unemployed Americans every week will see their unemployment checks stop. Our chief White House correspondent Chip Reid has been working both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue to figure out what happened. Chip. CHIP REID: Well, Scott, the House passed a bill to extend unemployment benefits, but the Senate, believe it or not, failed by a single vote, then went home for a long Fourth of July recess. REP. JOHN LEWIS (D-GA): Tell them as they swallow their pride that you don’t care! That you don’t have a heart! REID: The debate in the House was emotionally charged. REP. DAVE CAMP (R-MI): Democrats should put an end to this sham and pay for this $34 billion spending bill. REID: In the end, the unemployment extension passed 270 to 153, but it was a futile effort because the Senate, for the third time in three weeks, failed to pass the bill last night and will not take it up again until after the Fourth of July recess. That means Americans who have lost their benefits will have to wait at least another ten days. So who’s fault is that? On the surface, it appears Senate Republicans are to blame. Led by Mitch McConnell, they killed the bill with a filibuster. But McConnell points the finger at Democrats, especially Leader Harry Reid, for refusing to pay for the bill in this age of sky-high deficits. SEN. MITCH MCCONNELL (Minority Leader): The only reason the unemployment extension hasn’t passed is because our friends on the other side simply refuse to pass a bill that does not add to the debt. REID: Reid calls that a weak excuse. SEN. HARRY REID (Majority Leader): Democrats and Republicans have always extended unemployment benefits because it’s an emergency. REID: Democrats also have themselves to blame. One Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, voted no. If he had voted with his party, the bill would have passed. Now, when the Senate returns in about ten days from its Fourth of July recess, the expectation is that there will be a replacement for Robert Byrd who passed away this week. That should give the Democrats the votes they need to pass the unemployment bill. Scott. PELLEY: Thanks, Chip. You know, it may be worth noting that the vacationing senators make about $174,000 a year and enjoy lifetime health and pension benefits.

Open Thread: DOJ Attacks Former Employee Over New Black Panthers

The Eric Holder-led Department of Justice is now resorting to attacks against its former employee Christian Adams after he’s come out publicly criticizing its decision to refuse to prosecute the New Black Panther Party under voter intimidation laws. Adams is fighting back , however: I was appalled and disappointed by the DOJ yesterday. They included a blatant lie in their response to my interview.  They told Fox News I had been “unhappy with my position.” Not only would this be a personnel matter they aren’t supposed to discuss, it’s a fairy tale. In fact on April 28 I got a promotion, so maybe they can let me know what position I was unhappy with. The problem with smearing me is that there are many others who know the truth inside the Department. Documents which they refuse to turn over pursuant to subpoenas from the Civil Rights Commission prove it. Testimony from other DOJ employees, which they refuse to allow, would also prove it. Will he get the support he needs from his former colleagues or will the issue get ignored and swept under the rug?

The Trouble with Career Politicians

Politics was once an honored profession of high calling by men of strong principles and courage whose interest in being elected to these positions of public trust was to serve the country and make sure their generation left a better world to the next one. They were, for the most part, men of faith, men of integrity, commitment, practicality and common sense who viewed high political office as a term of service, not a lifetime vocation. They fought and won wars against far superior odds, battled economic downturns, abolished slavery and left us a rich endowment of federal papers documenting their vision of what the United States of America is and was meant to remain. It is a heartbreaking fact that nowadays politics has become not a calling but a game. Gaining public office is achieved by the most photogenic, the silver-tongued, the most attractive who look good on television and can raise the most money. We tend to pay more attention to the messenger than to the message, the one who can lie with the straightest face. Many times policy is achieved by backroom deals and downright sellouts. The leadership promising perks to make it look like Congressmen and Senators are bringing home the bacon to the folks back home to enhance their next election chances. They never stop to think about just whose bacon they’re sending and “by the people, for the people, of the people” has turned into, buy the people, fool the people and rob the people. And before any of you cherry pickers accuse me of taking sides, let me assure you that I’m talking about Democrats and Republicans. After all it was the Republicans who started this national debt spiral, the Democrats have just taken it to new and insane highs. Our founders did not design this system for career politicians, but rather citizen politicians who would serve a couple of terms and let someone fresh off the street serve, someone who is acquainted with what’s happening now, not twenty years ago when this bunch of hacks took office. Our political bodies were intended to be made up of common folk, doctors, druggists, farmers, carpenters, and some but not all lawyers. The corruption that plagues our political system is not just confined to the federal branch but rots our local and state governments as well. The one-sided attitude of the media I think dissuades a lot of honorable people from going into politics. If you’re not a member of the party the media supports they come after you with both barrels blazing, examining your whole life with a microscope trying to unearth some juicy little tidbit that will turn the public against you and undermine your campaign, and who wants to put their family through that. We need look no farther than the last presidential election to find proof of what I’m talking about. Look at the raging war that was waged against Sarah Palin. A media that actually turns a totally blind eye to childbirth out of wedlock acted as if Bristol Palin had committed a crime of immense and proportions. While Barack Obama, the all-time media darling, who sat under the preaching of a revolutionary racist for twenty years claimed he had never heard any of the inflammatory, anti-American rhetoric that regularly spewed from Jeremiah Wright’s mouth. He kept company with a sixties era terrorist who to this day wants to destroy the American way of life, and was never held accountable. Those who have sworn to serve you pass bills that they haven’t even read and the last thing they want is for we the people to find out what’s actually in them. There’s a dirty little club in Washington and the state capitols around this country, a club whose membership fees are to toe the line and be willing to sell out your own nation for a place at the big hog trough. And ladies and gentlemen, with the exception of a handful of good men and women who actually keep the faith in this pack of wolves, that’s what they are, pigs with and insatiable appetite for power.

Disappointing, but not Unexpected: HuffPo ‘Comedy’ Celebrates ‘Tea Party Jesus’

It’s a curious phenomenon to see what the minds at The Huffington Post deem funny, and at least this one wasn’t filed under the category “HuffPo Religion,” but a series of images depicting Jesus Christ making unhinged statements wins the HuffPo’s “Comedy” classification. In a June 30 post , Katla McGlynn wrote that mocking Tea Party protestors by “juxtaposing” “hateful, ignorant, or otherwise nonsensical rants” but at the same time mocking a religious figure many hold very is sacred isn’t only funny but it is also instructive about what she described as “people who claim to be Christians.” “The concept behind the site Tea Party Jesus is simple: Put the words of conservative Christian social and political figures in the mouth of Christ,” McGlynn wrote. “The juxtaposition of hateful, ignorant, or otherwise nonsensical rants with serene photos of JC himself isn’t only funny, but says a lot about the people who claim to be Christians.” According to the Huffington Post story, the creator of Tea Party Jesus impose actual quotes from various conservative figures on someone who according to Scripture led the perfect life, but it is done in a comic book form – which somehow makes this funny. Some of quotes used by the creator were originally meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but somehow it’s hard to imagine one could catch that context when it is used in such a way. Nonetheless, McGlynn included remarks about Guantanamo Bay, the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the earthquake in Haiti and same-sex marriage – all from individuals deemed to be “tea partiers.”

Cramer Rips Federal Gov’t for Congressman’s 1,000-2,000 Dow Drop Prediction: ‘Washington Has Decided to Eviscerate Profits’

On CNBC’s June 29 broadcast “Power Lunch,” Rep. Paul Kajorski, D-Pa. made a pretty prediction about the Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA ) should Congress be unable to pass financial regulation legislation. [Video Available Here ] “You know, I wish every one of them would ask the question and also the industry and media, what happens in this country if this bill fails?” Kanjorski said. “Do you think 236 points down on the Dow is surprising? Check 1,000 or 2,000 points if we fail to change the ways that caused this problem.” That caught the attention of CNBC’s Erin Burnett, who played the clip for “Mad Money” host Jim Cramer. Cramer blasted Kanjorski and the entire institution of the federal government for being a drag on the markets for a myriad of reasons on his June 29 “Stop Trading” segment of CNBC’s “Street Signs.” “You know, they are the problem,” Cramer said. “And we all know it, right? It’s like let’s not even outthink it. I love our bureaucrat congressmen in Washington, but they’re the problem. And I don’t want to be just Mr. Rick Santelli here, but give me a break.” Cramer noted the timing – on the eve of a financial regulation bill vote and asked why he was waiting until now to tell us. “I mean, really – so he’s telling us about the 2,000 points? Now he’s telling us?” Cramer continued. “I mean, like other than a couple of congressmen and senators.” But according to Cramer, things are much more dire than the Washington, D.C. political playbook. He explained there was a real problem with the mentality in the federal government – to demonize profits. “What is the 10-year telling us?” Cramer continued. “We’re done. It’s 1934. I’ve been saying over and over on the show – the market’s overvalued, the market’s overvalued. Just try to buy a yield. It’s because, you know – we’ve had it. Washington has decided to eviscerate profits. No one wants to say this because what happens when you say it, is you got a bullseye on your back and I don’t even feel like saying it because I already have a ton of them. But you know it really is – I mean to like listen to Congress tell us about what causes a 2,000-point decline and then just accept it and say, ‘Yeah, that’s interesting.’ I’m not playing that game. I’m too old.” Cramer said the problem was very complicated with what he said was a deflationary phenomenon. He explained there were very few positives with the S&P 500 index to point at what he deemed “gloom-busters.” “We have radical deflation in this country,” Cramer said. “I mean, that’s what it is. People are maybe working, earning money off the books. I’m doing a series on the show. I’m trying to find companies that are gloom-busters. I gave combed most of the S&P 500, some of the S&P 600, you know the next level. I’ve got about four or five companies that say things are good. I mean, this is a remarkable time in the American economy. This market deserves to go down. Now I know a lot of people will say, ‘Wait a second, it just rallied from 270.’ We’ve all played that game. We know what happens – the ultra-funds come in in the last half hour, they rebalance – you go down 500 in the last minute. Maybe it’s our fault. It’s our fault because of TARP or … whatever.”

Arizona Writer Latest Journalist to Pass Through Media-Democrat Revolving Door

Investigative journalist John Dougherty of Arizona deserves a hand from everyone concerned with liberal media bias, because he has given it up. Dougherty, pictured right in a photo from his website, has, shall we say, crossed the border from being biassed to seeking the Democratic nomination for US Senate . In the late 80’s he was involved with uncovering Charles Keating’s use of campaign contributions to five senators-including John McCain, whom Dougherty would most likely face in an election-in exchange for putting pressure on banking regulators. He also investigated Governor Fife Symington, polygamist leader Warren Jeffs and Sherrif Joe Arpaio. Whatever else he has done in the past, Dougherty has already succesfully morphed into a politician, writing a blog for the Huffington Post on illegal immigration and its relationship to crime that directly contradicts the conclusions he reached in an article he wrote for the High County News. Dougherty told Jilted Journalists that, if elected, he would hire investigative reporters as his staff to investigate other politicians and that he “can’t wait to hold hearings at the US Senate.” He also said that he shares much of the Tea Party’s frustration with government, although “‘Government is not the problem, corrupt government is the problem,’ he said, blaming lobbyist spending for putting corporations and special interests ahead of people. Government needs to be ‘much more aggressive,’ ‘strong,’ and ‘tough,’ he said.” If elected, Dougherty would join a long line of journalists who sought public office: Senators Harry F. Byrd (both Senior and Junior), President Warren Harding, Clare Boothe Luce, Pat Buchanan, Steve Forbes, William Randolph Hearst and even McCain’s challenger in the Arizona Republican Primary, JD Hayworth. As one of the most famous journalists ever to run for public office, Dave Barry once wrote: “And of course the most agonizing question is: Why, really, do I WANT to be president? Is it just so that I can have a limousine and a helicopter and a big plane and a huge staff of boot-licking lackeys waiting on me hand and foot? Yes.” That just about sums up the attraction of journalists to politics.

BET Awards Fashion Face-Off: Fergie vs. Cassie

While Chris Brown’s BET Awards performance gets much of the attention, we can’t forget about the obligatory, morning-after-awards-show tradition at THG: Picking apart the night’s ridiculous fashion choices! Below, Fergie and Cassie go head-to-head in a clash of single-named titans. The Black Eyed Pea’s tailcoat dress raised some eyebrows, for better or worse. Cassie’s ensemble, meanwhile, defies description. Is that an ace bandage around her chest? That and the pleated pants really accentuate the half-shaved head, we have to admit. This could become a trend. Whose outfit looked better, fashion fanatics? Vote: Who looked better at the 2010 BET Awards?

Kim Kardashian Wins Website Award. Seriously.

Chris Brown may have pretended to cry hysterically over Michael Jackson at the BET Awards last night, but that despicable attempt at career revival was actually NOT the most absurd event to take take place over the weekend. Instead, that dishonor falls upon the entire concept of the Digital Supernova Award. The first of its kind was handed out to Kim Kardashian on Saturday night, as she was feted by Sony Ericsson and Buzzmedia for having the top celebrity website on the planet. (Tough break, Spencer Pratt. Better luck next tear!) Said Kim: “I’m so proud of my new site and it’s an honor to be recognized for doing something that I love.
