CBS Early Show Frets Over ‘Passenger Gridlock,’ Glosses Over TSA Civil Liberties Abuses

“Early Show” co-host Maggie Rodriguez today glossed over the TSA's use of intrusive pat-downs while drilling down on the potential for “gridlock” if distressed passengers cause “chaos” this weekend over the enhanced security measures. “There is, as I'm sure you know, this online movement that's gaining more and more momentum calling for people tomorrow to opt-out of those full-body scanners and get pat-downs instead to create chaos at the airport,” noted Rodriguez, interviewing aviation expert Peter Goelz. “The head of the TSA told me yesterday that will only serve to further delay and further irritate passengers. How bad do you think it could get?” Parroting the TSA chief's talking points, the CBS anchor failed to question Goelz, former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board, about the potential for civil liberties abuses. Instead, CBS displayed graphics hyperbolizing “TSA Turbulence” and fretting “Will Passenger Gridlock Hamper Holiday Travel?” Rodriguez even shifted the burden of responsibility from the government to the passengers: “Is there anything, Peter, that you suggest that people do as they travel in the next couple of days to make things go smoothly?” read more

Furrygirl’s sexy stripdown protest in Seattle airport mocking TSA security theater (NSFW video) – Boing Boing

Self-described pornographer, sex worker, and sex blogger Furrygirl opted for a patdown instead of the pornoscanners at the TSA checkpoint at the airport in Seattle, citing health concerns about radiation emitted by new devices. To protest the TSA's invasive new “enhanced” screening procedures, she stripped down to see-thru, sexy underwear prior to her “grope-up,” and videoblogged the whole thing (well, what the camera could capture from its vantage point on the little tray traveling down the conveyor belt). “Instead of being scared and humiliated like the TSA wants me to be, I'm going to try and enjoy this experience the best I can,” she says before she enters the screening area. “I'm just sorry the TSA doesn't work like a brothel, where you get to pick the one that's hottest.” I'd say what's most interesting about the video is what it doesn't show: the facial expressions of the TSA workers, the reactions of other passengers. At any rate, I applaud her efforts to stick it to The Man. (click on the link to access the video) added by: Vierotchka

T.I.’s Wife, Tiny, Tweets After Arrest

ATL rapper’s spouse thanks supporters, as 50 Cent gives the couple his two cents on Twitter as well. By Mawuse Ziegbe Tiny and T.I. Photo: Eugene Gologursky/ Getty Images After getting arrested with her husband, T.I. , on Wednesday night for possession of a controlled substance, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle took to Twitter to thank fans for the e-support. “Jus wanted 2say thank u 2every1 dats been leaving encouraging msgs & prayers!” Tiny tweeted on Thursday (September 2). “We love u guys:) going 2bed now! So glad 2b n a nice clean bed.” Tiny and her new hubby were picked up in Los Angeles after police stopped T.I. (born Clifford Harris Jr.) around 10:30 p.m. for making an illegal U-turn in his Maybach, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. When the officers approached the vehicle, they apparently smelled the scent of marijuana wafting from the car and then searched the passengers and the automobile. Police found an unspecified number of pills that “resembled ecstasy.” T.I. and Tiny were not traveling alone but the Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said the other passengers in the car were not charged with a crime. The duo posted $10,000 bail each and were released early Thursday morning. They are due in court on September 3. Other celebs have weighed in on the alleged drug bust as well. 50 Cent suggested that Tiny take the fall for Tip, who was released from prison earlier this year after completing a jail bid stemming from weapons charges. “Man TI and tiny done got picked up agin for methamphetmines and ecstacy dam man,” 50 tweeted . “Tiny gotta take that charge. Say it was yours, Baby.” Frequent T.I. collaborator DJ Drama did not directly reference the arrests, but did tweet, “So I wake up to the news …. damn…” The incident comes just days after T.I. kicked off the week with the #1 movie in the country, “Takers,” a film he worked on as both a star and a producer . In addition, the ATL MC’s latest single, “Pledge Allegiance to the Swag,” surfaced on the Web on Wednesday. Related Photos T.I. And Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle Related Artists T.I.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS * The Canadian coast guard is ferrying passengers from the ship * The are being taken to a small town on the shore of the Arctic Ocean * Some 128 passengers and roughly 69 crew members are thought to be on board * The ship ran aground an unmapped rock on Friday (CNN) — The Canadian coast guard began ferrying passengers on Sunday from a cruise ship that ran aground an unmapped rock. Officials aboard the Clipper Adventurer reported their troubles on Friday. The crew failed to dislodge the ship during high tide on Saturday, while Sunday, a coast guard icebreaker arrived to transport the people on board to land. No one of the estimated 128 passengers and 69 crew members were hurt or injured, said Theresa Nichols, a spokeswoman with the Canadian coast guard. “They are in the midst of completing the operation of ferrying the passengers off,” she said. “That operation should be just about finished.” The passengers are being taken to Kugluktuk, a small town on the shore of the Arctic Ocean, where accommodations have been arranged by the cruise ship company, said Nichols. They are then expected to fly to the Canadian city of Edmonton. The grounded vessel is stable, but rests with a slight list, according to the company that operates the cruise ship, Adventure Canada. “Weather remains favourable as passengers continue to enjoy onboard programming and hospitality,” the company said in a statement. added by: EthicalVegan

‘Lost’ In The Afterlife: Big Questions Answered In Series Finale

In typical ‘Lost’ fashion, some show mysteries remain open for debate. By Adam Rosenberg ‘Lost’ finale Photo: ABC After six seasons, one writers strike and countless unanswered questions, television sensation “Lost” has finally reached its conclusion. The story that began in 2004 with a plane crash and a tropical island received a fitting send-off from show-runners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof in a two-and-a-half hour series finale. Mysteries remain, but major plot revelations in tonight’s episode offer a satisfying explanation as to exactly what happened to the passengers aboard Oceanic flight 815. Needless to say, spoilers ahead. Let’s get it out of the way right up front: The big twist is that everybody was dead. “Everybody” meaning the key players. Exactly who those players are remains open for debate, and will likely continue to be one of the show’s most enduring mysteries. An exchange between Jack and his father in the closing minutes of the finale reveals that a gathering of memory-restored Oceanic “survivors” have in fact been running through an elaborate fantasy, one designed to bring their group together before they step over to the afterlife. The major question that remains is when during the run of the show that break between life and death occurred. Life could have ended for the Oceanic passengers as far back as the pilot episode. The plane crashes, everybody dies, but this group is left behind because of unresolved issues within their individual lives. The trials they go through surviving on the island serve as a sort of purgatory. This would render certain key figures — Jacob, the Man in Black, Richard Alpert — as utter fabrications. That’s just one theory. Another read could put the time of death for Oceanic 815’s survivors as the hydrogen bomb blast at the end of the show’s fifth season, which raises a whole new set of questions as to the nature of certain supporting characters. The beauty of “Lost,” a trait that holds true even as it eases into its afterlife, is that the story demands discussion while remaining open to interpretation. Congratulations from MTV News to Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, J.J. Abrams, and the talented cast and crew responsible for delivering six years of some of the most thought-provoking television on offer. “Lost” will be missed. What did you think of the “Lost” finale?
