The public will hear from Robert Pattinson for the first time since his split from Kristen Stewart when he’s a guest on The Daily Show this Monday. But sources tell In Touch Weekly that Stewart herself has been hearing from the actor often since news of her affair with Rupert Sanders went public. How so? “He’s been drunk dialing Kristen,” an insider claims. Friends tell the magazine that Rob has “been drinking like crazy,” since the split, which is actually the second time this assertion has been made . So, assuming this story is valid, what actually happens when Pattinson gets Stewart on the line? A lot of “dead silences,” this Robsten mole says. Another supposed know-it-all adds that Rob is clearly considering some kind of reconciliation, but “his friends are working hard to make sure that he doesn’t go back to her.” Do you think he should? It looks like Robert Pattinson has Kristen Stewart beat in at least one regard: the actor most likely showered on Friday. Amidst reports that Stewart is an unkempt mess , sources say that Pattinson actually made a public appearance over the weekend, stopping by The Deer Lodge in Ojai, California on Friday night with a few friends. An employee of the cowboy-themed establishment confirms that he heard the same, telling Radar Online that he was not working that evening, but “several people” informed him ” Pattinson was here enjoying the music” and seemed to be in “good spirits.” The bar is located about 90 minutes from the home Rob and Kristen shared in Los Angeles and would make sense as a locale for Rob to frequent at the moment, considering he’s rumored to be residing in Reese Witherspoon’s vacation home . It’s situated in Ojai. An unnamed patron also confirmed the handsome sighting, Tweeting afterward: “Awesome night in Ojai. Got to hang with a rowdy bunch of Brits & one of them happened to be Edward… He wasn’t moping and the girls were definitely just his friend… I stood next to them at the bar. He wasn’t drunk. Just taking in the scene. Smoked next to him outside.” The countdown, meanwhile, is on for Pattinson first official public appearance: it will take place August 13 in NYC at the premiere of Cosmopolis .

Reporter Carlos Greer tells People that the actor is ” heartbroken and angry ,” while sources spill to the magazine that “he’s been drinking and relying on friends to deal with the pain.” Other outlets, meanwhile, report that Pattinson has returned to the most dangerous habit of all: smoking. The star is reportedly holed up inside Reese Witherspoon’s vacation home in California and we’ll mostly likely see him in public again on August 13 when Cosmopolis premieres in New York City. As for the woman who destroyed Rob’s spirit? Greer says Stewart feels terrible. She is “remorseful” and “beating herself up over this.”

Judging from the staying power of the Kristen Stewart-Rupert Sanders scandale , Robert Pattinson probably feels like he’s on a Dante-esque limo ride through Hollywood hell right this very minute. Which means it’s a perfect time to look at photos from his upcoming movie, Cosmopolis ! Joblo.com has posted exclusive pictures from the David Cronenberg-directed adaptation of Don DeLillo’s, um, extreme 2003 novel about a billionaire asset manager whose chauffeured ride across Midtown Manhattan to get a haircut turns into a sex-and-death-punctuated journey of self-destruction. Pattinson and his hypnotically vacant stare play Eric Parker, the 28-year-old rich dude who takes that ride. Reviews of the film were mixed after it screened at the Cannes Film Festival, but Pattinson got some really good notices for his performance. For instance, Robbie Collin of London’s The Telegraph wroted that, at the movie’s heart is a “sensational central performance from Robert Pattinson — yes, that Robert Pattinson.” It will be interesting to see whether Twi-hards will check out R-Patz in what, if we know our Cronenberg, will be a much deeper and darker story.
