R.I.P Drug Kingpin-Turned-The Wire-Actor Melvin Williams Dead At Age 73

“The Wire” Actor Melvin Williams Dead At Age 73 If you’re a fan of the acclaimed HBO series “The Wire”, you surely remember the character of Deacon, a church man who was “all up in everybody’s s#!t”. Although he was acting, Melvin Williams wasn’t exactly playing a role. He was really in these streets HEAVY back in the day. Via WashingtonPost Melvin Williams, whose life as a West Baltimore drug kingpin in the 1960s and post-prison redemption earned him a place on HBO’s “The Wire,” died Dec. 3 at a hospital in the city. He was 73. Citing friends of Mr. Williams, the Baltimore Sun reported the cause was cancer. Known as “Little Melvin” — or Slim or Black, the latter for his preference for dark clothing — he once ruled the illegal drug trade along the city’s Pennsylvania Avenue that prosecutors said grossed $1 million a day. He served many years in federal prison for drug and gun convictions, and was one of the first criminals profiled on the BET program “American Gangster.” He later spoke about having undergone a personal religious awakening while in prison, warned against drug use and counseled young men to steer clear of gang culture. While still a prisoner, Williams told a Federal Judge of his drug-dealing deliverance: “Sometime in my 50s, I became aware that there was a God in charge, and not a Melvin” Williams’ story is fascinating and we highly suggest you looking him up. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. R.I.P. Melvin Williams aka “Little Melvin” aka “Slim” aka “Black”. Image via HBO

17 Taylor Swift Throwback Photos: From 1989 to Today!

As you might have guessed from her upbeat music and bubbly personality, Taylor Swift is not one of those artists with a dark past and a closet full of skeletons. In fact, you couldn't make-up such an idyllic childhood: Taylor grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania (seriously). Her father was a successful banker, and her mother retired from mutual fund marketing in order to be a stay-at-home mom. Really, it's the kind of upbringing that could make you hate Taylor, if she weren't so darn lovable. Sure, there are those who have taken issue with the version of Taylor's past that's been presented to the press, claiming that all was not as perfect as the Swift family has claimed, but so far, no lies have been exposed. Frankly, we don't know what to believe. It seems almost impossible that any family could be this insanely happy, but looking at these pics from Taylor's childhood, it's difficult to imagine that she ever had a bad day:   1. Taylor Swift Baby Photo Taylor was born on December 13, 1989. Hard to believe, but in this pic, she’s just 17 years away from her first hit single. 2. Taylor as a Toddler Here’s Taylor playing with a toy phone at age 4. Given the staggering size of her girl squad, we’re guessing she still spends much of the day with a phone pressed to her ear. 3. Taylor and Austin Swift Taylor and her younger brother Austin. These days, he often accompanies her to A-list Hollywood events. 4. Taylor in Black and White Taylor says she got into country music at a young age. She cites Shania Twain as an early favorite. 5. Taylor Swift: Soccer Star Taylor played soccer growing up because of course she did. Here she is posing for her team photo in grade school. 6. Taylor Swift and Her Mom Taylor says her mom, Andrea, is one of the biggest influences in her life. Check out the major family resemblance here. View Slideshow

Nick Offerman NASCAR Ad: Offensive to Celiac Disease Sufferers?

Here is a controversy we did not see coming… During Super Bowl XLIX, Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman anchored a commercial for NASCAR, relying on his ultra masculine image to lament how the country has gone soft. “When our idea of danger is eating gluten, there’s trouble afoot,” the actor said at the outset of the spot. No big deal, right? Sort of funny, no? Try telling that to some people with celiac disease. Nick Offerman Super Bowl Commercial Someone who refers to himself as “Gluten Dude” and who hails from Newtown, Pennsylvania first took offense to the commercial and then took to Change.org to start a petition. “[The ad] implies that we’re soft,” he writes. “We’re weak … we’re part of America’s problem. When all we’re trying to do is manage our disease.” As of this writing, 18,000 people have signed Gluten Dude’s petition to have the ad yanked. Do you find it offensive? (AP) — A Pennsylvania father is apologizing after police say he pulled his daughter’s male friend by the hair and chopped off his dreadlocks with a knife. Reginald Hardy was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other offenses after police say he saw the 19-year-old sneaking around his apartment Friday with his 17-year-old daughter. Police say the 38-year-old Hardy punched the 19-year-old in the face and threatened to shoot him in the back if he ran away as he left. Paige Hyland: Abby Lee Miller Threw a CHAIR at Me, Shoved My Mom!!

Former Abby Lee Miller student Paige Hyland, 13, has alleged some awfully serious misconduct in a lawsuit filed against Lifetime’s Dance Moms firebrand. As we reported last week, Paige Hyland is suing Abby Lee Miller for making her life a living hell, and in court documents, she goes into shocking detail. Dance Moms: Abby Lee Miller-Kelly Hyland Fight! Miller, she claims, “engaged in conduct that caused Plaintiff….to reasonably believe she was about to be touched or harmed in an offensive matter.” As a result “of Defendant’s wrongful conduct, Plaintiff has suffered emotional distress, anxiety, frustration, anger, humiliation, post traumatic stress and anguish.” Among the specific allegations of abuse? That Miller threw a chair during an argument with the teenager, pushed Paige’s mother Kelly Hyland and more. According to Paige, Miller pinched another student until she bled. That’s only the physical abuse too. The mental side of things was even worse, supposedly. “Miller insulted and abused Paige on an almost daily basis, including cruel name calling, insults about Paige’s physical appearance,” Hyland’s attorneys claim. While “making offensive false and defamatory accusations about Paige’s family,” she continues, “all of this abuse was done for the sake of drama during the show.” There’s no question that major drama makes people want to watch Dance Moms online more than Abby being a caring, nurturing, patient and kind soul. Would there even BE a Dance Moms or Abby’s Studio Rescue on TV if she were? No chance, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t way, way over the line. Watch Dance Moms Season 4 Episode 31 Online Hyland’s lawyers actually place much of the blame for Miller’s outrageous behavior on the show’s producers for pitting Miller against the moms and kids. To support this claim, the attorneys also claim that Miller was “caring and nurturing” toward Hyland and her sister before the reality show began filming. No longer. They are also overworked to a brutal and bone-weary extent. “The girls on the show often work long hours without receiving all required breaks in violation of Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws,” they claim in the lawsuit. “The average week involves rehearsals on Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to at times past 10 p.m.,” which does not even include the competitions. “Fridays the girls generally travel many hours, usually by bus, to competitions and they spend 12-hour days on Saturdays competing before returning home.” Hyland is seeking unspecified damages, and for Abby Lee to stop all forms of abuse. So far, Miller has shown no signs of backing down or apologizing. In her new book Everything I Learned About Life, I Learned In Dance Class , Miller says, “I know just how to push a kid’s buttons to get the results I want.” “Nobody is going to embarrass them and upset them more than I am.” Watch Dance Moms Season 4 Episode 32 Online
