John Waters at Outfest: ‘Yell Out the Grosses of All Their Hetero-Flops’

Recalling his early years mixed with Sixties feminists and Black Panthers, filmmaker John Waters again charmed and amped an audience at the start of Outfest late last week where he received the Los Angeles LGBT film festival’s 2012 Achievement Award. Never one to bore or to deliver a saccharine tale, he implored the audience to take a “Act Bad” and to use humor as a way of social dissent. He told a cheering audience to hail fashion insults outside the homes of anti-gay politicians and told budding filmmakers that if a studio says your story is “too gay,” then to get your “gay screenplay friends and go back to the studios and yell out the grosses of all their hetero-flops.” He talks about being a Yippie (‘to get laid’) in the ’60s and a hilarious chant in London at a protest against the pope. The 30th edition of Outfest runs through July 22nd in L.A.

Obama Movies Yield Boom, Bust Over Opening Weekends

The market for films addressing Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential candidacy and his term to date in the Oval Office has proven volatile at best: Hagiographies like the all-access, Edward Norton-produced By the People co-exist alongside a cottage industry of microbudget anti-Obama slam pieces like Hype , The Obama Deception and this past weekend’s 2016: Obama’s America . And thanks in part to election-year grassroots mania (and an interview with the president’s Kenyan half-brother), the latter film may yet prove to be the most lucrative of the Obama subgenre to date. But this weekend’s other release, The Obama Effect ? Not so much. Released on one screen in Houston by Rocky Mountain Pictures (the scrappy purveyor of such right-leaning fare as Atlas Shrugged and the sleeper hits End of the Spear and Expelled: No Intelligence Required ), 2016 pulled in a handsome $31,750 over three days. The showing followed a free word-of-mouth screening last Thursday which featured author/interviewer Dinesh D’Souza (on whose book the film is based) and Oscar-winning co-producer Gerald Molen in attendance; “some moviegoers sat in the aisles Thursday and waited as much as 90 minutes to meet,” according to a THR dispatch . An expanded release is foreseen, perhaps comprising 400 screens total in the lead-up to next month’s Republican National Convention. Meanwhile, down the box-office line (like, way down the box-office line) you’ll find The Obama Effect . Written and directed by and starring Charles S. Dutton, the film focuses on a man circa 2008 who overlooks mounting health and family issues in his fervor to campaign on Obama’s behalf. In a radio interview last week , Dutton described the film as a satirical look at a man who loses perspective on his life (and the political animals who come to surround him), but a glimpse at the trailer and other limited background on the film don’t really combine for much of a message or even much of a story. Which (along with a lack of D’Souza-esque, Obama-thwacking source material) helps explain why the film, released by Arc Entertainment, stumbled this weekend to a meager $73,000 on 25 screens — a per-theater average of $2,920. Lessons? Many remain to be determined, especially as campaign season chugs ahead, though producers and agents alike may immediately be advised that apparently the president’s half-brother George can open a movie better than Andrew Garfield, at least per screen . And think what he could have done with Battleship ! Ahem. Just throwing it out there. [ THR , Box Office Mojo ]

I’m Brittany and I’ve been a HUGE fan of Justin…

I’m Brittany and I’ve been a HUGE fan of Justin Bieber since  2009 , when he released his song ‘One Time.’ I’ve tried so many radio contests, online contests, trying to win tickets to his concerts, and even standing in 40 degree weather for 7 hours all to try and meet him. So, after three years, you would think I would give up, right? Wrong. I kept trying. On Tuesday, I decided to check the bieberfever website for any contests, so once again, I would lose….or at least I thought that’s how it would go. Turns out, there was a contest to see Justin in a Fuse interview on June 21 at the Museum of Natural History. I knew I had to attempt to win again! I e-mailed Gotham Casting, the people who were choosing the winners, and I wrote why I was such a huge fan and answered other questions they had. I was very negative about the whole thing. My mom kept telling me to not be so negative because maybe it will actually be my chance to see him in person. I decided I would stay positive. The next day, I went to my friends house and decided to check my e-mail. As I was scrolling down, I saw an e-mail from Gotham Casting!!!! I started spazzing out! I clicked on it and they congratulated me for winning and that I was going to see Justin live at his Fuse Interview! I was crying like crazy and couldn’t believe that I would finally see Justin in person. I called up my best friend and we completely flipped out. I could barely sleep Wednesday night cause I was just way too excited for Thursday to come. Well, finally it was Thursday! Gillian and I went to the Museum at around 4:30 and we waited in line for 4 hours until they finally let us in to where Justin would be. I just couldn’t believe that this moment was actually happening. At 10:00PM, they began the show. Justin Bieber began to walk down the stairs and I just completely broke down. I started hysterically crying and felt like I was going to pass out. It was honestly the greatest time because I waited THREE years for this and I never thought this moment would ever happen to me. The show was amazing! During the breaks, Justin would sing some of his songs from Believe, like “Love Me Like You Do” and “Catching Feelings.” He even started singing “Call Me Maybe” and then he began dancing in his chair. It was so cute and I was so close to the stage. I was literally 5 feet away from him! I screamed “Justin!!!!” and he looked at me and I just got the biggest smile on my face.  This night was seriously the greatest night ever! I continued to never say never and dreamed big. No one should give up on trying to see him in concert or meeting him because it will happen one day! It happened to me and it took years! Dreams do come true! President Obama Calls What His Biggest Mistake?

Too much substance, not enough style? That’s the gist of what President Barack Obama says his biggest mistake was since getting to the White House nearly three and a half years ago. Obama says tackling the job as a national policy wonk rather than the inspiring figure he cut in the 2008 campaign has resulted in some hurdles. “When I think about what we’ve done well and what we haven’t done well,” the president told CBS in an interview, “the mistake of my first term – the first couple of years – was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right.” “And that’s important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during economically tough times,” Obama said in an exchange with Charlie Rose. “It’s funny, when I ran, everybody said, ‘he can give a good speech but can he do the job?’ In my first two years, I think the notion was, ‘Well, he’s been juggling and managing a lot of stuff, but where’s the story that tells us where he’s going?'” Presidents tend to sidestep questions about their biggest mistake in office, or at least qualify them by trying to cast their flaws in a positive light. Obama seems to be saying that, to that effect, that he just took the job seriously and did not communicate his views well enough to the people. Republicans wasted little time mocking the answer. Republican National Committee spokesman Tim Miller tweeted “I’d go w/ utter economic failure.” Mitt Romney ‘s response: “Being president is not about telling stories. Being president is about leading, and President Obama has failed to lead.” “No wonder Americans are losing faith in his presidency.” If the election were today, for whom would you vote?

ESPN Body Issue of the Day

I hate fat chicks so much that I am starting to really appreciate fit chicks who have some muscle definition from hard training and not from being on drugs or rocking an eating disorder…sure for the longest time I was into soft, doughy, busty chicks but they all turn into fat chicks, but then one day I fucked an athlete and after coming to terms with the fact that her rippling back was a little too dude-like, I just laid back while she rode me like a piece of exercise equipment and from that day on I was hooked…the high testosterone levels make them horny and they are good for when you need help moving furniture and their only real flaw is their ability to out run/beat the fuck out of me….but the hottest thing about them is that they aren’t fat or lazy…. ESPN does this thing called the body issue, where they get athletes to show off their ridiculously sculpted naked bodies, and they dropped it recently, so I figured I’d plug it to encourage you slobs to work out instead of sitting there eating processed foods…. Fitness can be hot…especially on other people… TO SEE THE REST OF THE PICS FOLLOW THIS LINK

Kristen Wiig: So Happy with Fabrizio Moretti!

Kristen Wiig may have shed a few tears when she left Saturday Night Live , but the comedian is smiling up a storm these days. And that has a lot to do with Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti. The actress is featured on the cover of August’s Marie Claire and remains mostly mum on her fairly new relationship, but does allow that the musician is making her one content woman at the moment. “I will say that I’m happier than I’ve ever been and I feel very lucky right now,” says Wiig, responding to the question of why with a pair of answers: “Where I am now. Who he is. Those are the two big ones.” The Oscar-nominated Bridesmaids star is doing quite well professionally, too. She has three projects in the works: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (opposite Ben Stiller). Imogene (opposite Darren Criss). The Comedian (opposite Robert De Niro). Still, she clearly has perspective on what matters in life, telling the magazine: “When you’re on your deathbed, you probably aren’t counting the movies you’ve made. You’re looking at the people who are around you and thinking about the people in your life, and you can’t lose how important that is because that’s ultimately where happiness comes from.”

Prison To Primetime? Casey Anthony Says She’s Inspired By Kim Kardashian And Wants To Be A Reality TV Star!

Ho sitcho azz down!!! Not happy with just trying to seal a book deal as well as not locked up in a cell somewhere, Casey Anthony has dreams of hitting the small screen and becoming a reality star. According to an article in People magazine, the former murder suspect has abruptly ended spiritual and grief counseling, focusing instead on rebuilding her life — and her image. “She loves being notorious,” revealed an insider. “One day she said, ‘I need to work on my brand,’ which is so strange for me and so foreign from what she should be doing. I said, Casey, what brand? You’re not selling anything. You’re a lost girl who got in a lot of trouble.’” When asked what her next move is going to be, Casey smiled slyly, said the source, and replied: “I am one of the most famous people in America. I’m on Saturday Night Live.” While she aspires to follow in the footsteps of reality queen Kim Kardashian, Anthony, 26, will not be asking for any tips from the Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s star as she is still extremely upset over tweets from her idol following last year’s verdict in her 2-year-old daughter Caylee’s death. Casey, you are not a celebrity! You are in the news because you are a thief that stole from your grandparents, parents, and friends and you are responsible for your child’s death. You are not famous, you are a piece of disgusting isht!!!! Source
