‘It was average at best,’ Jay McGuiness joked, as MTV News follows the band all day leading up to their ‘Chasing the Sun’ video premiere. By Jocelyn Vena ‘The Wanted’ rehearse before ‘Today’ performance Photo: Brian Phares/MTV News NEW YORK — The Wanted made their “Today” show debut on Tuesday (April 24), the day of their debut U.S. EP release. The fans’ energy was predictably high when the guys stepped outside to the famed Rockefeller Plaza. Before their scheduled performance, the group greeted their devoted female legion of fans, who had made up signs to welcome the guys to the show. All five fellas happily took the time to pose with fans and sign autographs in the moments leading up to their performance. Then they sang not only their chart-topping track “Glad You Came” but also their new single, “Chasing the Sun.” “We’ve done two albums so we’re trying to catch people up in America,” Wanted member Tom Parker told co-host Ann Curry about the EP, their first official Stateside release. They then launched into “Glad,” clad in leather jackets and displaying their boy-band bravado. After they left the stage, they shared with MTV News that they were thankful to all the people who showed up. “It was average at best,” Jay McGuiness joked about the performance, teasing that “Chasing the Sun” was a “hot mess like Lindsay Lohan.” The “Today” show was the first of many media appearances the Wanted will make on Tuesday, leading up to their “MTV First” special airing tonight at 7:53 p.m. on MTV. They will sit down with MTV News’ Sway Calloway to debut the “Chasing the Sun” video and chat. Immediately following the MTV premiere, the fivesome are hanging around for an additional 30-minute live Q&A session with Sway on MTV.com. Fans can get in on the action by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or @MTVNews on Twitter, using the hashtags #MTVFirst or #AskTheWanted. The guys are also one of the 32 boy-band hopefuls in MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands , which pits some of the greatest boy bands of all time against one another, until fans vote their favorite group to #1. The battle kicked off on Monday at BBB.MTV.com , with the first round ending on Thursday. Fans can weigh in on the matches on Twitter using the hashtag #BBB. The winner of Battle of the Boy Bands will be announced on Monday, May 7, live on “AMTV” on MTV. The Wanted are taking over the Big Apple! Anders Breivik Claims There’s A “Racist Plot” To Cast Him As Insane Newsflash, buddy …you are already insane without the “racist plot”… Anxious to prove he’s not insane, confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik told a court Monday that questions about his mental health are part of a racist plot to discredit his extreme anti-Muslim ideology. Breivik, who has admitted to killing 77 people in a bombing and youth camp massacre, said that no one would have asked for a psychiatric examination had he been a “bearded jihadist.” “But because I am a militant nationalist, I am being subjected to grave racism,” he said. “They are trying to delegitimize everything I stand for.” Breivik rejects criminal guilt for the rampage on July 22, saying the victims had betrayed their country by embracing immigration. Even the defense admits there is virtually no chance of an acquittal, so the key issue to be determined in the trial is whether Breivik is criminally insane. Two psychiatric examinations reached opposite conclusions on that point. Breivik himself insists he is sane, and accuses the prosecutors of trying to make him look irrational. “I know I’m at risk of ending up at an insane asylum, and I’m going to do what I can to avoid that,” he told the court. Breivik became defensive as prosecutors quizzed him about sections of the 1,500-page manifesto he posted online before the attacks. It describes uniforms, medals, greetings and codes of conduct for the “Knights Templar” militant group that he claims to belong to. Prosecutors don’t believe it exists. If found sane Breivik would face 21 years in prison, though he can be held longer if deemed a danger to society. If sentenced to psychiatric care, in theory he would be released once he’s no longer deemed psychotic and dangerous. Source More On Bossip! 10-Year-Old Boy Served Rum At An Indianapolis Olive Garden A waitress at an Indianapolis Olive Garden mistakenly served rum to a 10-year-old boy Thursday, police said. According to police, the boy had ordered a non-alcoholic wildberry frullato daiquiri for children but the waitress mistakenly brought back a drink that had rum in it. The child drank about 2 ounces of the 4 ounce drink before the waitress realized her mistake. The waitress told management about the error and the restaurant’s manager then told the parents. The manager reportedly said the child would be fine but the parents took the boy to the hospital just to be sure. Tests revealed the boy did have alcohol in his system, but that it equaled less than 1 percent. Officers said the child appeared to be fine, though he was a little shaken up. Police determined the waitress acted without any malice. Police also determined the family’s tab didn’t show that any alcohol had been ordered. Olive Garden released the following statement Friday: “We find this situation completely unacceptable and we are extremely upset that this occurred. “We have a zero tolerance policy for any violation of our responsible alcohol service policy, and the employee who served the wrong drink has been terminated. We are thankful that the child is OK and we will continue to work with the family to resolve this issue.” The mix-up came roughly a year after a mom said her toddler got a little tipsy after being served sangria at an Olive Garden southeast of Orlando, Fla. The 45-year-old retired boxer – who served three years of a six-year prison sentence for rape in 1992 and returned to jail for nine months in 1998 following a road rage conviction – revealed the woman in question did not have the child, but he refused to elaborate on any other details. Asked by ESPN host Rick Reilly what he has left out of his one-man show ‘Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth’, he said: ”I didn’t talk about getting a prison official pregnant. ”Oh yeah. In prison, stuff happens. But she had no baby.” Former heavyweight champion Mike – who has eight children – also discussed the many drugs he used to take, describing the substances, both legal and prescription, as his ”little friends”. Man Snatches Mic From News Reporter And Screams “I’m That N__ga!” On Live TV SMH. A North Carolina man is facing assault charges for bum rushing a news reporter on live TV, grabbing her microphone and shouting the n-word into the camera. WMBF-TV reporter Ashley Taylor was giving a live report about crime rates in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday when Justin Moore, 20, of Charlotte, rushed in front of the camera, snatched her microphone and shouted, “I’m that n—–!” The broadcast quickly ended, and Moore, was arrested just a few moments later, WMBF reported. Moore was charged with third degree assault and battery, and released from jail Thursday afternoon on $1,400 bond. Taylor was not hurt and returned to work on Thursday, the station said. In a follow up report, Taylor said the incident taught her to be better aware of her surroundings and the importance of victim’s advocates. Source More On Bossip! WTF !?!?!?!? A New Zealand mother of eight has died after drinking 10 liters of Coca-Cola a day, a coroner’s investigation heard. Natasha Harris, 30, suffered a cardiac arrest that her partner believes was brought on by her massive soft drink intake. Harris, from the southern city of Invercargill, was vomiting six times a week in the months leading up to her sudden death in February 2010, but she attributed it to stress. The mom would become moody, irritable and have no energy without her daily dose of Coke, but the family did not suspect her habit was to blame, the Otago Daily Times reported. Her partner, Chris Hodgkinson, told Otago-Southland coroner David Crerar Wednesday that Harris guzzled at least 10 liters a day. “The first thing she would do in the morning was have a drink of Coke and the last thing she would do in the day was have a drink of Coke by her bed,” he said. “I never thought about it. It’s just a soft drink, just like drinking water. I didn’t think a soft drink was going to kill her.” Pathologist Dr. Dan Mornin told the court it was likely Harris had severe hypokalemia — a lack of potassium in the blood — brought on by her excessive consumption of soda. He said she died from cardiac arrhythmia, and that her soft drink habit, along with poor nutrition and too much caffeine, contributed to her death. Crerar has yet to determine a cause of death. In a statement to The Southland Times newspaper, a Coca-Cola representative said that “grossly excessive ingestion of any food product, including water” could be harmful. “We believe that all foods and beverages can have a place in a balanced and sensible diet combined with an active lifestyle,” the statement added. Chicago High School Board Member Called To Resign Over Racist Facebook Post A Berwyn, Illinois school board member is “Berwyn CARES shares the outrage of students, teachers and residents in learning about racist posts on the Facebook page of board member Michael Iniquez,” the group said in a statement issued after the Chicago Sun-Times reported on the comments. Iniquez sits on the Morton High School District 201 school board. The district serves more than 8,000 students, mainly from Berwyn and Cicero. The Sun-Times reported Wednesday that on Iniquez’s Facebook wall was the post, “IT’S FRIDAY NI–A’S,” next to a picture of a nearly naked black child dancing. The whole word — a version of the n-word — was spelled out on the wall of Iniquez’s Facebook page. His entire Facebook page appears to have since been removed. “Certainly, if these allegations are true, he has no place on this school board,” Berwyn CARES President Robert Pauly said. The group, representing several hundred parents, stopped just short of calling for Iniquez’s resignation as it awaits the outcome of an internal investigation being done by the Town of Cicero where Iniquez works as the head of the rodent control. Iniquez is a longtime supporter of Cicero Town President Larry Dominick, who has condemned the posts, and the son of the town’s former police chief. In an interview earlier this week, Iniquez blamed the racist post on his 15-year-old son but acknowledged writing on his public Facebook page about getting drunk at a Cubs game and comparing the White Sox ballpark to a ghetto. He did not return a phone message Thursday. Berwyn Alderman Marge Paul in an interview Thursday called on Iniquez to resign, noting the revelations about him only aggravate a situation where parents are moving out of Berwyn rather than send their children to high school in the underperforming Morton District 201.
