The nerve of this muhfugga!! Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney on Sunday defended both his wealth and the number of cars he owns during an awkward exchange with Fox News’ Chris Wallace. Wallace asked the former Massachusetts governor whether his recent statement that his wife “drives a couple of Cadillacs” was out-of-touch with the economic realities facing most American families. Romney responded with a reference to the different states in which his cars are located, and suggested that only President Barack Obama’s supporters would begrudge him his automobile affluence. “I can’t be perfect, I just am who I am and I can tell you this with regards to the cars, that was talked about last September and us, what vehicles we own, we have a car in California, we have a car in Boston,” Romney said. “And so that’s the way it is. If people think that there is something wrong for being successful, they should vote for the other guy. I have been successful.” Romney also accused Obama of corruption, suggesting that the government assistance provided to General Motors and Chrysler was motivated by political patronage rather than economic substance. “We spent several billion dollars at a time we didn’t need to,” Romney said, claiming that Obama “gave a huge portion of the company to the UAW [United Auto Workers]. That’s not how bankruptcy usually works … He was paying off the people that supported him, and by the way, are trying to get him reelected.” We can’t wait to see this fool’s face if Barry O gets re-elected. ‘I thought it was really funny,’ Joel McHale tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Sacha Baron Cohen at the 2012 Oscars Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images For all the anticipation, anxiety and general pomp and circumstance that surrounded the , there were not too many surprises with regard to the actual show or its winners, save for comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s stunt with his appearance on the red carpet in character as Admiral General Aladeen, who is at the center of his upcoming movie “The Dictator.” Baron Cohen made Ryan Seacrest the unwitting victim of the actor’s publicity stunt when he approached the E! host armed with an urn supposedly containing the ashes of North Korea’s Kim Jong Il and spilled the powdery contents of the container all over Seacrest and his tuxedo. Baron Cohen’s antics were much appreciated, judging from the smattering of celeb reactions MTV News gathered at Elton John’s annual Oscar-viewing party and charity gala. “No way. That’s incredible,” said Mark Foster of Foster the People upon hearing the news of Baron Cohen’s stunt. “I wouldn’t want Kim Jong Il’s ashes on me.” “I thought it was funny and Ryan played along very well,” Joel McHale said of his E! colleague Seacrest. “He’s unflappable.” Both Foster and McHale agreed that Baron Cohen’s antics add an extra element of excitement to the red-carpet festivities. “It keeps things exciting. I love when people do something outside the box,” Foster said. “As long as no one was injured. No one was injured, right? I thought it was really funny,” McHale added. “Sacha Baron Cohen is genius.” For his part, Seacrest seemed to take the incident in stride, and took to Twitter to make light of the “spill.” “My mom always told me to pack two jackets for red carpets, always wondered why. Now I know.” The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Keep it locked at MTV.com for updates on the night’s big winners and the best red-carpet fashion . From ‘Shakespeare in Love’ to ‘Crash,’ a look back at the Academy Awards’ most memorable upsets. By Kevin P. Sullivan Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes in “Shakespeare in Love” Photo: Miramax Not every Academy Awards winner is met with praise and cinematic glory. Some past winners have come as surprises and even major disappointments to the audience, and among these, a handful will go down in history as outright injustices. Though a surprise victory on Oscar night can be thrilling, it can also deeply upset the viewers at home who’ve picked their favorites. As we gear up for the 2012 Oscars, here’s a look back at some of the most controversial wins in Academy Awards history. “How Green Was My Valley” Upsets “Citizen Kane” (Best Picture) Even though “Citizen Kane” has been touted as the greatest American movie of all time by the American Film Institute, back in 1942, it couldn’t even win the Academy Award as the year’s Best Picture. John Ford’s tale of a family struggling to make ends meet in a Welsh mining town beat Orson Welles’ masterpiece to take the honors and become the foremost example of Oscar injustice. “Ordinary People” Upsets “Raging Bull” (Best Picture) It upsets people when the film they feel is the best of year doesn’t win the top prize on Oscar night, but when the supposed film of the decade doesn’t win in its respective year, that’s a thing of controversy. Martin Scorsese’s gem about troubled boxer Jake LaMotta earned Robert De Niro an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1981, but Robert Redford’s family drama took the top honor. “Ordinary People” has since gone down in history as the film that stole the Oscar from the best movie of the 1980s. Marisa Tomei Wins for “My Cousin Vinny” (Best Supporting Actress) One of the most famous Oscar controversies in recent years came at the 1993 ceremony, when Jack Palance presented the award for Best Supporting Actress to Marisa Tomei. Many theorized Palance had misread the card, mistakenly giving the Oscar to Tomei. In the years since, the actress has gone on to earn two additional Academy Awards nominations. “Shakespeare in Love” Upsets “Saving Private Ryan” (Best Picture) The film that ushered in the era of Miramax domination in the awards scene, “Shakespeare in Love,” stole away Oscar glory from the one pegged as the odds-on favorite. Steven Spielberg’s sprawling World War II epic was heavily favored heading into the 1999 Academy Awards, and even though Spielberg took home the award for directing, many still hold onto the disappointment from the top category. “Crash” Upsets “Brokeback Mountain” (Best Picture) One of the best examples of the power of Best Picture backlash, the 2006 Academy Awards saw the tides turn away from Ang Lee’s tragic love story “Brokeback Mountain” and toward Paul Haggis’ “Crash” in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. If you need to better understand the shock that occurred, go back and watch Jack Nicholson announce “Crash” as the winner, throw his hands up and say, “Wow.” The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Tesco Vee has been at the forefront of punk since the days when a Mohawk and a spiked collar was a political statement, not a fashion statement…although the only political statement Tesco would make is that “Politics Suck.” As he told Skin Central: “All the other bands were railing against Reagan and social injustice, and I was writing songs about poop and boners.” He founded the legendary punk ‘zine Touch and Go while working as an elementary school teacher in Michigan in 1979, then watched his creation grow into a rallying point for fledgling punk and hardcore scenes scattered across the USA and eventually into a record label . He’s also the front man for The Meatmen , a punk rock powerhouse with an outrageous live show and hilariously politically incorrect songs like Camel Jockeys Suck, Blow Me Jah, French People Suck, and Lesbian Death Dirge . Now Tesco’s infectious brand of potty-mouthed humor has been re-introduced to the world with the reformation of The Meatmen in 2008 and the collection of every issue of his famous ‘zine into the book Touch and Go: The Complete Hardcore Punk Zine ’79-’83 , published by Bazillion Points . We caught up with Tesco driving around his home state of Michigan, and he proved himself to be very much a man after Mr. Skin’s own hard-on. More after the jump!
In the vigilante fantasy Gone , Amanda Seyfried plays Jill, a young Portland woman who can’t shake the memory of her abduction a year ago. She managed to slip through the guy’s clutches – he’d been holding her at the bottom of a deep pit in a sprawling local park – but the local cops, after finding no evidence of said hole (it’s a very big park), decided she made the whole thing up. Then one night Jill’s sister (Emily Wickersham) goes missing in a similar fashion: When Jill goes to the cops for help, they eye her warily, all except newbie detective Wes Bentley , who purrs at her creepily, in a red-herring sort of way. The thing about Seyfried is that she does look a little – OK, a lot — like a crazy waif, capable of making up any old thing and getting you to believe it by blinking those saucer-sized Blythe-doll eyes. She does a lot of that here, and she’s part of what makes Gone reasonably effective: Seyfried can look fragile, feral or a combination of both. Her skin is so translucent that she looks something like a pond creature, delicate and mysterious but also capable of staying underwater for a long, long time without breathing – in other words, she can surely take care of herself. Which is why you never worry too much about her character in Gone – you know she’ll come out on top, but it’s fun to doubt her here and there along the way. The picture is very simply constructed, using a minimum of tricks as it works its way toward its inevitable conclusion. (The director is Brazilian filmmaker Heitor Dhalia; the script is by Allison Burnett.) Essentially, Jill spends a day following a sequence of clues: She finds a possibly significant hardware-store receipt and treks to the establishment to quiz its super-friendly owner. (You know, the kind of guy who’ll sell you duct tape, a shovel, a flashlight and a mini-saw, chuck it all in a paper sack and say, “You have a great day now!”) En route to her prey, she queries a slacker kid about a mysterious fellow who’s been living in a local divey hotel. The kid warns her that the man in question is kind of shady: “My girlfriend says he has rapey-eyes.” Whatever those are – and it’s all too easy to imagine – you wouldn’t want to meet them in a dark alley, or at the bottom of a deep hole. As vigilante thrillers go, Gone is actually kind of subtle – perhaps too subtle. The movie repeatedly tosses the “Can we believe her or can’t we?” coin to the point where we don’t even have to guess. But ultimately, the plot doesn’t really hinge on who the would-be killer is, or even on the question of whether or not we can believe Jill. The more resonant question is, What happens when authority figures think they don’t have to take a pretty, sweet-looking girl seriously? The creepiest thing in Gone isn’t the inevitable showdown between Jill and her prey; it’s the way the cops stalk her (she’s toting an illegal firearm, which, they’ve decided, makes her Public Enemy #1), talk about her behind her back as if she were just some random loony (she did spend time in a mental hospital), and use the people she trusts to help reel her in. The aura of slow-burning paranoia is the best thing about the picture, though it’s not enough to fully sustain it. In the end, Gone really does have to be about Jill’s being smart enough to outwit her possibly imaginary nemesis – that’s what the audience comes to see, after all. Seyfried, a mini-Valkyrie with flaxen hair, can take care of herself all right. Still, those moments where you think she just might be an attention-seeking hysterical cutie-pie are exactly what gives the movie’s ending its satisfying click. Seyfried has spent too much time lately in vehicles that aren’t worthy of her, Red Riding Hood being the most egregious example. Gone at least takes her seriously – except when, to delicious effect, it doesn’t. Follow Stephanie Zacharek on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
Dr. Conrad Murray was just shot down in his request to be freed on bail while he appeals his involuntary manslaughter conviction in the 2009 death of Michael Jackson. Number of disappointed people not named Murray or Nicole Alvarez : Zero. During today’s hearing, Judge Michael Pastor said Murray is still a flight risk as he does not have significant property or family ties in Los Angeles. Judge Pastor also believes Murray is a danger to society, citing the MSNBC documentary in which Murray fails to show any remorse for MJ’s death. Pastor said “it scares me” that Murray believes it’s okay to use Propofol in a home setting and insists he could pose a danger to the safety of other people. Murray had previously asked for bail so he could spend time with his family (girlfriend Alvarez and their son) while he awaits the outcome of his appeal. He is hoping to overturn his manslaughter conviction on grounds he never had a chance to prove MJ killed himself due to stress … among other reasons. Murray’s appellate attorney Valerie Wass says she believes Murray is a “scapegoat” blamed for Michael’s death because there’s no one else to target. A judge, jury and the general public almost unanimously disagree. Jackson was not without fault, but Murray also wasn’t convicted of murdering him. His actions as a doctor fit the crime of involuntary manslaughter to a T.
I hate that I just posted a clip of a girl running her mouth off for E!News to lead into the Sheryl Crow bikini pics, because the paparazzi company who owns the rights to the pics, wants to sue me and I had no fucking options people, I am doing my best to archive every single bikini that happens, even on ripped stomached, manly menopausal 50 year olds who I didn’t find hot when she was at her peak in the 90s…and who I sure as hell don’t find hot now…..what it comes down to is only 50 year old women care about seeing 50 year old women in bikinis…. While the real joke in all this is the fucking spic Liz Hernandez showing off some cleavage in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s dress, reading her script like a 5 year old, making outrageous assumptions claims, with useless banter that just doesn’t fucking matter or even hold any purpose other than being noise while pretending to be reporting news…. Saying things like “chasing after her kids surely keeps her fab physique in check” coupled with all the puns, cliches, nonsense they report to the trailer park moms just made my fucking brain explode….this people at E! are the devil…and Liz Hernandez bitch needs to be raped on her way out of the studio to teach her a fucking less… TO SEE THE SHERYL CROW BIKINI PICS
