Olympic hopeful had been in a coma since a skiing accident in Park City, Utah, last week. By Kara Warner Sarah Burke Photo: Richard Bord/ Getty Images Professional skier and Olympic hopeful Sarah Burke died Thursday (January 19) following an accident during a training run on the superpipe in Park City, Utah, on January 11; Burke had been in a coma since the crash. Burke’s publicist confirmed the news of her death to People magazine. The freestyle skier’s death comes just one week after she underwent successful surgery to repair a torn vertebral artery that caused bleeding between her brain and skull. Despite the success of the procedure, Burke remained in a coma. Hospital officials told the magazine that Burke suffered a ruptured artery, which caused her to go into cardiac arrest. She sustained irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood and never regained consciousness. According to a statement from her parents, sister and husband Rory Bushfield obtained by People, Burke died “peacefully surrounded by those she loved” and her organs and tissues were donated, per the skier’s wishes. The family also expressed their “heartfelt gratitude” in the statement, for the “international outpouring of support they have received from all the people Sarah touched.” The 29-year-old Canadian was considered a pioneer in women’s free skiing, “The Godmother” of the sport according to the Ski Channel . She was an eight-time X-Games medalist and an Olympic hopeful for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Burke’s family has reportedly received a substantial number of inquiries from people asking how they can offer support and make a donation on behalf of Burke. Award-winning DJ/producer is also overseeing Paris Hilton’s new music project. By Akshay Bhansali Paris Hilton and Afrojack Photo: Danny Mahoney/ XS Nightclub Afrojack is in Los Angeles, and not just for a stopover. The award-winning DJ/producer will be anchored to the City of Angels, hunkered down in the studio to work on music. A lot of music. Paris Hilton confirmed at the Golden Globes that Afrojack is producing her next album. The two were recently in the studio working with LMFAO’s Redfoo. And on top of all that, Afrojack (real name Nick Van de Wall) is also working on his own first album. “I’m in the studio now for two months in Los Angeles,” Afrojack told MTV News recently before an epic resident set at Las Vegas’ dance-music mecca, XS Nightclub. “I have two studios booked and I have a big house and we are all staying there and just thinking about not only producing my album, but just producing other songs for other people.” His next single, “Can’t Stop Me Now,” a collaboration with Shermanology, is the only confirmed collabo he could reveal. But fans can be sure that Afrojack is looking to work with plenty of other artists while he’s in L.A. “I’ve met a lot of people in the last two years around the world, and I’m pretty sure they are going to be on the album,” Van de Wall said, mentioning Omarion, Redfoo, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo as possibilities. “I did a remix for Leona Lewis, and I really loved her voice. I want to have her on the album,” he added, referring to his Grammy-nominated remix of Lewis’ “Collide.” “And I’m going to work with my own boys. I’m gonna do collabs with R3hab , with Quintino and Shermanology.” After the radio success of “Give Me Everything,” Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” and Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls),” one has to wonder: Will Afrojack’s coming album be more pop or club? Is it turns out, maybe both. “I’m still thinking,” he revealed. “I could do club, but then the pop side wouldn’t understand. And if it’s just pop, the club side wouldn’t understand. I think I’m just going to do both. I think it’s just going be a totally different thing. Let’s see what happens. It’s my first album!” Should Afrojack focus on pop or club? If you’ve been keeping up with MTV’s hit reality show, “The Real World” then you’re familiar with the recent “Back To Las Vegas” season which was full of drama, hook-ups, back stabbing, lies and of course partying. The Las Vegas cast seemed to win over the hearts of America as they were the highest rated Real World cast to date. Now one of the cast members, Naomi, is getting ready for the premiere of the new Real World challenge, Battle of the Exs, which features a few of her cast mates including her on again off again boo/hook-up buddy, Leroy. If you watched the season, then you know just what it means when you put Naomi and Leroy in a room together for more than 5 minutes! I recently had the chance to chat with Naomi about her experience with MTV. Check out my exclusive interview with her as she dishes on her experience living with seven strangers, having cameras follow her every move, dealing with the whole STD drama with Leroy on camera and her experience on the upcoming Battle of the Exs challenge! HelloBeautiful: How has your life changed since u appeared on the MTV’s “Real World Las Vegas”? Naomi: It’s definitely changed. For one thing, I never stick to the same look. I get bored having the same look. I’ve colored my hair and now I have a very short hair cut. I renovate my look often and people still notice me and ask me questions about the show. I’ve met a lot of people in the business and in the MTV family. I’ve been able to party with people from “Jersey Shore”. Our show was even nominated for a “Teen Choice Award” against The Kardashians and “Jersey Shore” which is really big. Our Real World season brought it back on the map as we were the highest rated Real World ever. This is insane even though “Jersey Shore” won, it was just amazing to be nominated. I’ve gotten into cool projects, reality shows and photo shoots. I even want to enroll in acting classes in NYC so I have gained a lot. HB: Did u want to be an actress before the “Real World”? Naomi: Ever since I was 11 I wanted to be an actress. I was offered a scholarship to go acting school but my dad didn’t want to pay so I let the idea go until I became an adult But being on reality TV I figured this could be an opportunity to do other things. The only thing is that being on reality tv they don’t take you as serious so I would definitely have to take a lot of classes to get on my feet. HB: Why did u decide to go on the real world in the first place? Naomi: I was in college at the time I went to school upstate and my soror sent me an email about the casting. They said I’m crazy and have such a good personality that I’ll get picked right away so I figured I had nothing to lose. I didn’t expect anything out of it. I was pretty casual and I showed up late. I just wore jeans, curly hair all out. Other people had on fur coats and dresses and stuff I was the complete opposite. The way it works is that you have a group interview and the casting director asks you a question about yourself and then from there he’ll build on more questions. At the end of the interview, the casting director asks everyone who would they like to get to know more out of the entire group. Everybody liked me out of the group, wanted to get to know me and wanted to have me as a friend. Then, he chose me to fill out an 80-page application to move on to the next step and I kept moving on. There was 5 or 6 other steps in the process before I finally was chosen to move into the house. HB: How was your experience in the house? Do u have any regrets? Naomi: We were all so multi dimensional so I want to say that none of us did anything to misinterpret. The way we were on TV was the way we were in real life. The problem with other people is that they get on reality TV and they’re excited so they try to edit themselves. We were all ourselves; we were completely the same person that we are. I don’t think we were seen in anyway that we weren’t. I met 7 new people I never knew before. Its lead me to other opportunities so I don’t regret any of it. HB: How was it dealing with/hooking up with Leroy? Naomi: Our whole relationship was playful. We didn’t want to get in each other’s way when were having a good time. We’re both playful and immature and this situation with the STD made us want to be more mature. When it comes to dealing with feelings we both become introverted. So I had to grow up because it was my health I was dealing with. I was the one going through the situation. I had to own up to my mistake, which was having sex with him, unprotected, and then having to go to the doctor. You have cameras following you and it’s nothing you can do about it. It’s no such thing as privacy. You’re living in a bubble so it’s like you’re dealing with just your roommates but when the show airs you’re dealing with everybody’s reaction. People are so quick to judge people off a reality show when they know that that happens everyday but because it’s on TV people feel the need to judge u more. You live and you learn. I don’t regret it. It helped other people realize the importance of protecting yourself. HB: Do you ever get any type of privacy? Naomi: No, the only time they don’t follow you is when you’re taking a crap but you get used to it. You’ll have a personal relationship with the cameraman, it is what it is. They’re there you’re there but you’re not communicating. We got used to the fact that we were being watched by day number two. HB: How did you get hooked up with battle of exes? There’s always a challenge that follows a “Real World” and each challenge has a theme. This one is battle of the exs and you don’t know what’s going on until u get there. You don’t know who was picked. We were in the Dominican Republic and imagine getting the news you’re being hooked up with your ex. After the show we were trying to figure out if we were going to pursue each other on a more serious note. But unfortunately it didn’t work out. But the wounds were still fresh to me because I obviously cared about him a lot so it was something I was still dealing with. When I went to the Dominican Republic, I was still dealing with not being with him. How can I be paired up with him and live with him and I still have feelings? He’s the kind of guy that’s never settles down and he’s never had a real relationship so for me its kind of like I’m in it alone. Everything else will be shown on TV. It was a very different experience from real world. HB: Which do you like better? Real World or the Challenges? Naomi: I like the “Real World” better. I like to party and have a good time and I like to meet different people. You build better relationships on the “Real World”. The “Challenge” is so competitive and everyone is backstabbing and for themselves. I hate those situations. I don’t want to be the kind of person that has to be on their toes all the time because something is constantly changing. I did like the challenge though but I just like the “Real World” better. HB: How is you and Leroy’s relationship now? Naomi: Leroy and I are friends, nothing more and nothing less. If we see each other, I’m sure we would hook up. I think we see each other in a different light. HB: Any new projects? Naomi: Well, I have a photo shoot coming up. I’m on the cover of Ellements Magazine for the January issue (ellementsmag.com). I’m having my 24 th birthday at TAJ In NYC sponsored by Isreal at Alist Entertainment. Follow me @NaomiMTV Will you tune in to “Battle of the Ex’s”?

SMH… Epitome of a bad mother , or bad batch of meth? A woman who shot her two young children, their father and a cousin in California’s Central Valley before committing suicide took video of herself on her iPad as she smoked methamphetamine prior to the killings, police said Monday. The apparent murder-suicide by 23-year-old Aide Mendez began Sunday morning when she argued with the father of her two children, 33-year-old Eduardo Lopez. After neighbors called police to report trouble, officers arrived to find Lopez outside the Silver Lakes Apartment with knife and gunshot wounds, said Lt. Mark Salazar, homicide commander for the Fresno Police Department. They heard a muffled shot from inside the first-floor apartment and discovered Mendez had killed herself, her boyfriend’s cousin, Paul Medina, 27, as well as her two children, 17-month-old Aliyah Echeverria and Isaiah Echeverria, 3. Police told The Fresno Bee they found Mendez in the bathroom, and found the children in the apartment’s bathtub, where they had been shot at least once. The boy was found dead on the scene, Salazar said. Police tried to resuscitate the girl but she later died at a nearby hospital. “We do know that drugs played a key role, but we don’t know to what extent,” Salazar said. “She was seen prior to the shooting smoking methamphetamine. She recorded herself on an iPad showing her and Paul Medina smoking meth. We know the power of meth.” Salazar said the time stamp on the iPad video would have to be tested but preliminary information indicated it was recorded within a few hours of the murder. “Her actions just seemed bizarre; her mannerism, the way she was moving her hands and her facial expressions,” Salazar said, noting other drugs may have been involved but that it would take weeks before the toxicology reports were complete. Lopez remained in critical condition Monday evening at Community Regional Medical Center with stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the neck, said Mary Lisa Russell, a hospital spokeswoman. A 7-year-old neighbor girl who was in the apartment escaped unharmed. Authorities said Monday they had yet to piece together a motive, but said family members reported that Mendez had lost a baby several years ago, and was still grieving over the loss. Police recovered 10 grams of meth, $8,000 in cash and three firearms in the apartment; two of them used. “There’s some things we just don’t know because most of the people in that house are dead and the one person who is alive can’t speak right now,” Salazar said. Jesus Gonzalez told KFSN-TV, an ABC affiliate in Fresno, that shortly before 7 a.m. on Sunday he heard gunshots and then a pounding on his door. He opened the door to find Lopez bleeding profusely. “I opened the door and he fell in front of me, and I take him and I pull him inside,” Gonzalez said. He said that before he could drag Lopez inside, Mendez tried to pull him back outside again. Gonzalez said he shouted at her, “Hey, what happened, what happened?” and she ran off. The family lived in the back of the gated apartment complex in southeast Fresno, which has neat lawns, trees and a children’s playground. Neighbors said there was no indication of violence between the couple before Sunday’s shootings. “They would come out with the baby carriage, and the man was taking care of his children,” neighbor Eric Gonzalez said. Another neighbor said Monday residents were shaken by the shooting, and still struggling to comprehend what had happened. “It just really gets you thinking about how a mother could just grab her kids and kill them,” Lizeth Gonzalez, a mother of three small children who lives in the complex. “I never thought it would happen here. Whatever she did, I hope God can somehow forgive her.” This is a damned shame. R.I.P. to those precious babies and the young man who lost his life. Brad Pitt at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Getty Images The mutual love between George Clooney and his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star Brad Pitt is anything but new. But on Sunday night (January 15), their love was on full-display as the pals put on some major emotional PDA for Golden Globe viewers. In pop culture, three’s a trend, and if that’s the case, consider the Pitt/Clooney bromance incredibly trendy. Walking out with a cane, an obvious friendly jab at Pitt’s current use of a cane, Clooney brought the first bromantic moment when he presented the video package paying homage to his friend’s Golden Globe-nominated film, “Moneyball.” “I have to give it back to him or he can’t make it to the bar otherwise,” Clooney said of the cane. “It’s been called a baseball movie that’s not a baseball movie because it transcends the sport. This a David and Goliath story of a general manager, his assistant and a failing Oakland A’s team who takes on powerhouse teams like the New York Yankees. It’s a movie about turning conventional wisdom on its head. And it’s nominated for four Golden Globes, including ones for Jonah Hill and some up-and-comer named Brad Pitt.” Pitt then showed Clooney some love back when he hit the stage to present the package for the Clooney-directed “The Ides of March.” “Young, idealistic campaign workers and dirty politics are the focus of a movie that shows how the desire for power can corrupt anyone in the political process,” he said. “Ryan Gosling is nominated tonight for acting and co-star George Clooney received Golden Globes nominations for his writing and directing of the film.” The final shout-out of the night came when Clooney won for Best Actor — Drama for his work in “The Descendants,” beating out Pitt. While Pitt may not have won, his presence was felt on the stage. “Wow, well, that’s the funny thing about evenings like this. You get the chance to catch up with old friends and see people that you haven’t seen in a long time,” he said before diving into the compliments for Pitt. “I wanted to say it’s nice to see Brad and it’s nice to be able to tell him not just what wonderful work he’s doing in two films this year, but also what wonderful work he does in the world to the rest of the people. I’m a fan,” he added, before also praising “Shame” star Michael Fassbender for his own talents in the frontal-nudity department. In the weeks leading up to the show, Clooney was poised for many a “death match” at the onslaught of awards season.
