Poof, Vamoose…Beyotch: Michele Bachmann Drops Out Of The 2012 Presidential Race

Cue the violins… Rep. Michele Bachmann suspended her presidential campaign after placing sixth in Tuesday’s Iowa Republican caucuses, she announced today. “Last night, the people of Iowa spoke with a very clear voice, so I have decided to stand aside,” Bachmann said at a news conference, flanked by her parents, husband and five children. “I have no regrets, none whatsoever. We never compromised our principles and we can leave this race knowing we ran it with the utmost integrity.” Bachmann said she will continue to fight the policies of President Obama, particularly his health care legislation, calling the 2012 election “the last chance to turn our country around, before we go down the road of socialism.” She said she was motivated to stop Obama and not by a thirst for power. “Though I’m a congresswoman by title, a politician I’ve never been. … I’m not motivated by vanity, glory or the quest for power.” Bachmann had staked her candidacy on Iowa, the state in which she was born and raised. In September, campaign manager Keith Nahigian called Iowa a “must win” state. Bachmann placed last out of the six candidates competing here in Tuesday’s first-in-the-nation caucuses, receiving only 5 percent of the vote and losing in Waterloo, the town where she was born. Maybe not forever — but definitely not just 14 months.” The source added that despite the trouble, “They were always laughing. They were very affectionate, always holding hands. They seemed like they were really in love.” Another friend hoped that they could have worked through their marital woes. “These aren’t people who give up,” the second source said. “I always thought they would work on their marriage if they had trouble.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Katy Perry Related Photos Lovebirds: Katy Perry And Russell Brand Related Artists Katy Perry

Kim Kardashian Kalled Out by Kalifornia Tax Proponents

Kim Kardashian is threatening to take over the 2012 political campaign season. First, Mitt Romney referenced the reality star’s failed marriage in a recent diss of President Obama . Now, an organization of California citizens who are pushing for an initiative in their home state that would raise taxes on millionaire by three to five percent are using Kardashian in an ad. California Citizens Urge: Tax Kim Kardashian! “Not everyone was born a Kardashian, but we all need to pay our fair share,” the spot says, noting that Kim banked $12 million in 2010… but paid just one percent more in taxes than a worker who made $47,000. The Courage Campaign and the California Federation of Teachers are teaming up to raise around $6 billion for public schools and local services through this income tax hike. They hope to get it on the November ballot. “Don’t you think she could pay a little more?” the ad asks of Kim, as images of children, firefighters and an elderly woman flash on screen. “Especially to fund education and critical services?” Do you think Kim Kardashian should pay more taxes?

Michele Bachmann Drops Out of Presidential Race

Republican Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann formally ended her campaign for the White House this morning, just one day after Mitt Romney’s Iowa caucus victory . “Last night, the people of Iowa spoke with a very clear voice. And I have decided to stand aside,” the GOP Congresswoman from Minnesota told reporters today. They spoke, indeed, dealing her a disappointing sixth-place finish. The Queen of Rage could not become The Queen of Votes . Despite Bachmann’s extensive tour to visit all 99 of Iowa’s counties, her August straw poll win, and the state being her place of birth, she garnered just five percent. Her communications director Alice Stewart told reporters following the news conference that conversations began last night about whether to continue the campaign. The congresswoman asked for time to “sleep on it” and “pray about it.” Stewart said she was awoken early Wednesday morning with the news that Michele was out. Bachmann has not yet discussed whether she will seek reelection to her U.S. House seat in Minnesota, Stewart said, or whether she will endorse another candidate. Also unclear if last night’s second-place finisher will reach out to her supporters with the following tagline: Rick Santorum: Conservative Like Bachmann, But Less Crazy!

Iowa Caucus: Mitt Romney Wins Squeaker Over Rick Santorum

Ron Paul lifted to third-place finish by youth vote with only eight votes separating first and second place. By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Andrew Jenks Mitt Romney addresses his supporters after the Iowa caucus Photo: Jewel Samad/ Getty Images DES MOINES, Iowa — It was a dogfight that came down to a razor-slim margin of votes Tuesday night (January 3) between former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Senator Rick Santorum. Romney came out on top after running in a tie with Santorum at 25 percent of the vote for much of the night, winning the Iowa caucus by only eight votes with north of 122,000 voters turning out. In addition, the third-place finish by libertarian rabble-rouser Representative Ron Paul with 21 percent of the vote proved the power of the youth vote in this year’s election. The mainstream media had been virtually ignoring Paul for months as they focused on the reality-show-like rise and fall of other Republicans vying for the GOP presidential nomination. But on Tuesday, the congressman from Texas shocked naysayers when he came in third place in the all-important Iowa caucus , the first primary contest of the season. CNN reported that entrance polls showed Paul’s strongest support came from voters ages 17-29, while Romney was the pick for voters 65 and older and Santorum clicked with those 45-64. In his concession speech, Paul thanked his enthusiastic supporters for believing in him and reintroducing what he described as a core Republican value: “the conviction that freedom is popular.” “Once again, we have had a fantastic showing for this cause and not the status quo we have been putting up with for decades and decades,” he said to lusty applause. “This movement is going to continue, and we are going to keep scoring just as we are tonight.” The major story of the night, though, was the battle longtime poll leader Romney was drawn into with classic conservative Santorum, who had been polling in the single digits for much of the year but got a sudden burst of support late in the pre-caucus cycle in Iowa. Romney, who spent more than $10 million in 2009 to win Iowa, only to lose to former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, didn’t spend as much this time around but ended up in the closest Iowa caucus in history. Romney addressed his supporters before he was named winner of the unbelievably close race. “This is a campaign night where America wins. We’re going to win the White House and get America back on track,” he said as he reiterated many of his stump talking points about what he said were President Obama’s failures on security issues (Iran) and the economy (continuing high unemployment, record deficits). Promising to dismantle the so-called ObamaCare health plan, Romney said this election is about the soul of America, once again reciting his favorite lines from “American the Beautiful,” as he’s done often on the stage. “I want to restore the principles that made America the hope of the earth,” he said, professing his love for freedom, the constitution and the country. With 25 delegates at stake and Iowa no longer a winner-takes-all state, Romney earned bragging rights, but not the kind that would come with a convincing, large-margin victory. If anything, pundits said that Santorum came out the champion by simply having such a strong showing. Just moments after voting wrapped up at Olmstead Hall on the campus of Des Moines’ Drake University, Katherine Rupp — who was undecided going in — was happy that Romney came out on top in her precinct after the night’s vote. “Romney has a business background, and I believe he’ll bring his CEO experience to hopefully being our Republican presidential candidate,” she said. Rupp said the unique nature of the Iowa caucuses — where Iowans get up onstage to give their personal pitch for why their friends, neighbors and fellow precinct dwellers should vote for a particular candidate — played a big part in swaying her from the undecided column into the Romney camp. Ricki Meyer was a Santorum supporter going into the night, and while her candidate came in a tie for second with Paul at the Drake caucus, she was feeling bullish about the former senator’s prospects and vowed to keep supporting him as he marches forward. “The things I believe in line up so well with what he believes in, and if I don’t stand up for that and for him right now, I don’t want to look back on this election and how pivotal it is for our country and think, ‘Why didn’t I support that guy anymore?’ ” she said. Santorum addressed Meyer and his other followers even before the results were in Tuesday night. “People have asked me how I’ve done this sitting back in the polls … I survived the challenges so far by the daily grace that comes from God,” he said. “You have taken the first step of taking back this country,” he told the people of Iowa, who he met while visiting all 99 counties, and likely winning over the state’s all-important Evangelical voters. “The essential issue in this race is freedom. Whether we will be a country that believes that government can do things for us better than we can do for ourselves,” he added in an address that sounded more like his standard stump speech than a victory celebration for a candidate who most thought would never make it this far. “We are off to New Hampshire.” Benjamin Levine, 20, a Drake student and ROTC member, was inspired enough by Paul’s message to get up during the caucus and speak out on behalf of his candidate, with no notes, because the congressman’s message resonates that clearly in his mind. After volunteering for the campaign for several months, and after Paul’s third-place finish in the Drake caucus, Levine said the fight was not over. Larger precinct 46 went for Romney at the Drake vote, but Levine’s precinct 45 went to Paul in a tight one, and he was pleased with the result. Though Tuesday was his birthday, Levine said the Paul win in his precinct was the bigger deal. “I don’t feel any older, but I can feel maybe a little more freedom coming,” he said as he prepared to go to a Youth for Paul watching party downtown. “Mitt Romney is the establishment guy. He ran four years ago. He has name recognition. It’s huge that Paul can even get second in that precinct because people said he’s unelectable, they made up all those lies … even a second place in this precinct is pretty good.” Though final results would take several more hours, Levine said even if Paul did not end up snagging second statewide, “It’s certainly not the end of the road.” As for the rest of the field, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich came in fourth (13 percent), followed by Texas Governor Rick Perry (10 percent), who signaled he might soon drop out, then Representative Michele Bachmann (5 percent) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (1 percent), who didn’t really campaign in Iowa at all. The remaining candidates now move on to New Hampshire, which will hold its primary next Tuesday. MTV is on the scene in Iowa! When Your Sister Listens To Her Mister More Than You

More here:

A few months ago, while on the coattails of summer’s craziness, I lived through a strange experience of friendship that left me to the tendency of some friends to take, take, take… and take. Call them what you may, I like to think of these types of relationships as “convenience friendships.” This particular story involves a man – a player – that came between a sister and me. It all began when a series of events led me to introduce two single friends, each from a separate corner of the lonely-hearts club. She, a dynamic sister with a bright future glazing in her horizon, sociable, a people-pleaser, ever-so insecure, met him, an attractive, slightly pretentious man, whose confidence, self-righteousness and charm could blow anyone’s pants off. I went along with the venture, trying my best to facilitate what was an unlikely combination. She had returned from abroad at the beginning of the year and was detached from the life she left behind. But I, like others in our friendship group, was excited to hear about her stories, supposing that her brilliant mind was ticking over with exciting plans and was full of stories about new people and far-away lands. On the other side of the equation, he and I had begun seeing each other quite often on the weekends, having a crazy time between us and with other frivolous friends. He spoke about his desire to calm down a little, to find someone with the prospect of longevity. So, when circumstances led them to meet, there was clear and open interest on both sides. As the weeks went by I stood on the sidelines answering the questions of one about the other and tried my best to bridge some of the obvious differences between them. But it appeared that nothing was going to work between them. He had told me that he had been sleeping around, and even took another sister home on an evening in which she had called me to chase information about where he was. This came in his relationship disclaimer, that so as long as there was no future between them, and the attempts to make something work had reached an expiry date, he was free to do as he wished and with whomever he pleased. She on the other hand was reappearing in my life quite sporadically to gain information about what he was doing, where he was and what I knew about him. It was strange because, aside from staying at my place when she first returned from abroad, I would only hear from her when she wanted something. It reached the point where I gathered that even she was aware of this, telling me one day “Let’s catch up soon, girl. I feel like I haven’t seen you at all.” I was not too concerned at this point; I was busy. But, it was all to boil over after one wild evening when he and I shared a kiss at a club. Having been told that nothing was going on between them, I fell to his charms and was one of two women to be swooned that evening with his kiss. I realized that what I had done was foul when I turned to see him with that another sister. Indignant, I left the club. The next day I spoke with him to clear the air, only to discover that he and my friend, she, were seeing each other that evening for round two. At this point my anger about having been used as a go-between-girl between two unmatched people had reached its climax. After months of being there for both of them, I was eventually pushed to redundancy, the friendships began to end and my interactions with both faded. I also can’t overlook the notion that I was slightly jealous. Two friends, who I had known for 2 years on separate grounds, had run off together and were leaving me behind. So one evening, I directed a comment to him, amongst friends, that questioned the worth of his friendship. Given how proactive he was in broadcasting to the world a sense of moral superiority and excellence in friendship, he took my criticism poorly and defensively. I considered him a dirty rat, so I didn’t care about how he reacted. But then, the following day, I received a phone call from her questioning me about the evening in which he and I had kissed. He had obviously told her to spite me and I imagined this was accompanied with the usual dialogue of “she must love me,” which he regularly uses to justify burnt bridges with women (those he burns with men are because they are jealous of his style and charm.) Cornered, I asked to meet with her the next day during my lunch break. She accepted but brought along a mutual friend so to avoid any conversation about what had happened. This was a clear indication she was not interested in hearing what I knew. I told her anyway. A week later, having boiled over in self-reflection, I sent her an SMS with a stern warning her to watch her mouth with other people. She had fragrantly spread the word amongst mutual friends that I was the saboteur between them as they went about sewing the seeds of their rock-sold connection. I doubted, at this point, that she believed me when I told her about him sleeping around. This sickened me in my self-righteousness because I knew they were having unprotected sex, for which he would take no responsibility. A typical player – selfish and irresponsible. The entire scenario left me feeling foolish and ashamed. Aside from considering him a friend of mine – an arrogant man with little no consideration of other people’s dignity – I had also fallen victim to subtle ways of a sister’s convenience friendship. In all of this, I did things I was not at all proud of. I was very wrong to have kissed him without appreciating fully that she still may have had feelings for him by virtue of not knowing he was sleeping around and meeting new women. Her interaction with me was so sporadic, and always so focused on her needs with him, that I was never given the opportunity to know that she was still pursuing him at that point. But, as they began seeing each other again, with talk of them moving in together, a common enemy for them both has been the best method to cover up their obvious differences. Ultimately, my former sister got what she wanted – to fill a void in her life with a charming man. My services to her have dried up and so too has the friendship. I scratch my head occasionally and wonder whether or not I should still care about her. But then I realize that it was a lesson learned for me and that so too will it be a lesson for her when she finally gets burned. And that is how one friendship of convenience reached its inevitable end. “I Love My Husband, But I Want His Friend & I’m Thinking Of Leaving With This Guy” Is It Possible To Re-Do Romance?
