The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common STD’s today. Most of us are misinformed in terms of how the virus is contracted and who is susceptible to it. There are so many misconceptions about the virus it’s hard to tell the facts from the myths. How much do you know about HPV, and how do you protect yourself from this cervical-cancer causing STD? Our partners at ivillage.com have come up with 10 common HPV myths that will help demystify HPV: Myth #1: Most People Won’t Get HPV Fact: Human papillomaviruses (HPV) is the most common STD in the United States — so common that 80 percent of all sexually active men and women will get it at some point in their life. While it’s true that the more partners you have, the more likely you are to pick up the STD, you can contract HPV during your very first sexual experience, whether you use a condom or not. In fact, 80 percent of people who’ve had as few as four sexual partners have been infected with the virus, according to Nancy Kiviat, M.D., Director of the Medicine Pathology HPV Group at the University of Washington. But most people never show symptoms and may never know they’ve had HPV. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 90 percent of cases will naturally clear the system within two years. Is it just me, or is this season of “Basketball Wives LA” turning into the “Draya Show”? Last night’s episode was centered around none other than Draya as the other wives decided to meet up YET AGAIN to discuss their feelings about their fellow cast member. During their meeting, Jackie makes it clear that she is not trying to “endorse” Draya (I’m not exactly sure what she means by endorse..) but she simply wants to help her. Gloria, on the other hand, who was once all about Draya, has definitely turned her back on her. “Jackie seems to be way more forgiving of Draya’s situation than any of us,” Gloria said, “I don’t care, that girl can get hit by a bus and then keep it movin’.” Can someone please remind me why Draya needs forgiveness from them again? Imani and Malaysia also meet up for lunch where they talk about who else but Draya. Imani brings up how it looked as if Malaysia had Draya’s back during their “confrontation” on last week’s episode and how the two seem to be very close. Malaysia shuts that assumption down very quickly saying, “If I’m crying, I would want someone console me…but I don’t know her, I don’t want to get to know her…She came out the gate talking s— about me..” SMH.. I’m so confused! Moving on from this Draya situation (only momentarily), the girls are still focused on getting Imani a new man and they each bring in a guy for Imani to meet. Imani likes Jackie’s guy, Kyle, the best and asks Jackie to give her the details on this new man. Somehow the conversation switches BACK to Draya (why am I not surprised) and we learn that Jackie has somehow changed her mind about wanting to help her to “I really wanted to spank her, it’s like you don’t even know us. Yeah, I’m over Draya”. Guess we’re off Draya again. Laura threw a charity event for a children’s organization that she is on the board of and Jackie and Draya show up to the event. Surprisingly, the girls get along great, hug awkwardly and say “I love your hair! You look sexy!” They talk about the confrontation briefly and clear the air, for now at least. Guess we’re back on Draya again… In other non-Draya related news, Gloria did a sexy photo shoot lingerie where she looked smokin’ hot and Imani and Kyle went out on their first date. Although it seemed like Imani really liked Kyle, I’m not sure if he meets to her standards because he has a roommate and doesn’t make $800,000 a year. Yup, dealbreaker. Gabrielle Union is featured in the “Gorgeous At Any Age!” issue of People Extra where she discusses her eating habits, plastic surgery, and her cake game!!! Her New Diet: “My 20s were all about processed food. if it came in a box, I was like, ‘Sign me up!’ I was lucky because I could eat a cow and not look like one. As I aged i noticed that my face looked a little fuller or I had a little back fat. It ad a lot to do with junk food and fast food. I’ve started to read labels more. And I’m actually preparing meals like brussel sprouts and meatloaf.”
With that shady BDR character… SMH. They must’ve heard there was lots of white women down there. Our homeslices over at the New York Observer posted some photos of Perpetual Professional Bandwagon Jumper Russell Simmons bringing his wallet flexing “poet” friend Kanye West by the “Occupy Wall Street” protests and we thought we’d share: Yes, that Kanye West—the one with the $25,000 chains and small child-sized Horus-head-as-bling pieces—dropped into Occupy Wall Street today. He was apparently accompanied by Def Jam founder Russell Simmons, who Tweeted “kanye west is on his way to #occupywallstreet” with this photo: It sounds like it was sheer pandemonium, though no definitive accounts other than plenty of pictures and “he was here, and then he left” have yet to come through. And so it is: Kanye West gets added to the list of celebrities (Susan Sarandon, Jeff Mangum, Michael Moore, Talib Kweli) who have dropped into Occupy Wall Street who are not Thom Yorke. These ninjas ain’t even in the 99%, are they? Last time we checked they was ballin’ so hard, you know… And we could probably pay off all our student loans combined with the gold in Ye’s mouth. Just sayin’!
Let’s be real: college isn’t for everybody. And not being able to get through college isn’t always a sign of sub par intelligence. If you’re going to be a college drop out or bypass it all together and expect to do exceptionally well in the world, you may wanna follow in these guys footsteps and be ready to bring something invaluable to the people. Flip through and check out ten of the top business men who didn’t graduate college and the brands they built.
Rosie O’Donnell is still talking about picking up her lil young thang at the Starbucks…”my gaydar was off”.. In an interview set to air Monday on “Nightline,” O’Donnell, 49, discussed how she first met her new girlfriend, gorgeous tech headhunter Michelle Rounds. “I walked into a Starbucks in the summer and she was holding a little puppy,” explained O’Donnell, who was on “Nightline” promoting her new talk show. O’Donnell struck up a conversation because she herself was in the market for a second dog, considering she had just moved to Chicago to film her show. The comedian and talk show host claimed she had no intention of picking up Rounds when she first approached her. “I thought she was a 28-year-old heterosexual girl because that’s what she looked like to me,” O’Donnell said. In fact, if O’Donnell had known Rounds, 40, was a lesbian, she claimed she would have been scared off. “I think if I had known she was gay, I wouldn’t have been brave enough to talk to her.” The funny lady conceded that perhaps her ability to pick up on whether a lady is eligible to date was in need of some tuning. Putting it bluntly, she said, “my gaydar was way off.” O’Donnell recently told People just how serious she and Rounds now are, despite her initial misreading of their situation. “I’m in menopause, and I’ve been having really bad hot flashes,” she said. Her therapist, however, had a different opinion on what was warming the comic up. “She said, ‘[It’s] because you’re also in love.’” Source
Let’s get the facts straight on this fake holiday. First of all, we all know the original travesty: Columbus and his people came to America and killed all of the Native Americans and took their land. But there’s another travesty in the Columbus history. The idea that Christopher Columbus sailed across the world to prove that it was round was a big myth started by Washington Irving in his 1828 biography of the “discoverer”. Irving wrote a semi-fictional biography of Columbus and included that lie, which our teachers only perpetuate every day. In fact, as far back as Aristotle, people knew the world was round. So when your kid comes home from school talking about Columbus proving that the Earth was round, give him or her a history lesson and reveal the truth! All Columbus did was come to America and help lead the charge of Europeans killing and taking the land that wasn’t theirs. The End.

After ‘DISconnected’ premieres Monday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, Vinny will take part in an MTV News special discussing digital abuse. By Eric Ditzian Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV News Long before Vinny Guadagnino was beating the beat on “Jersey Shore” (and beating off the attention of club-hopping ladies), he was a gawky kid getting picked on by high school girls. “I was really awkward-looking and I got bullied a lot — especially by the hot girls,” he recently told MTV News. “I was cool enough to sit at the popular table with the hot girls, but at the same time, I wasn’t the most popular kid at that table. They would make fun of me and it would really hurt me, because you don’t want the girls thinking that you’re a loser.” How times have changed. But Vinny hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be bullied, and he’s made an effort to use his celebrity to bring attention to the issue, taking part in MTV’s A Thin Line campaign to empower kids to identify, respond to, and stop the spread of digital abuse. On Monday, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the channel is set to premiere “DISconnected,” a film about online bullying. After the movie, Vinny will take part in an MTV News special to discuss these issues. Though he’s now a celebrity with almost 2 million Twitter followers, he still encounters digital abuse. Not long ago, he posted a YouTube video with some of his young cousins in the background and, as he put it, “some hater called a little girl in the background fat.” “I’ve learned not to let it affect me, but there are other people that can be affected by it,” Vin added. “That’s why I want to share a message with young kids that whenever someone is pointing the finger at you, they have a ton of problems themselves that are making them do that. That’s their own insecurities talking.” Be sure to tune in to “DISconnected” on Monday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, and check out the movie’s Facebook page. Plus, stay tuned after the movie for MTV News’ Q&A special.
