Maino and his girl, Maggie, pop back up again and their situation is that Maggie wants to get on a song that Maino has about bad chicks. She feels like it’s only right that she’s on the song since she’s Maino’s girl and she’s bad. Maino reluctantly agrees, but he really wants her to do something other than music, like be a businesswoman. He’s not trying to shut her dreams down just for the heck of it, he’s coming from a place of knowing how hard it is to make it in the music industry. But Maggie doesn’t care. Sidney Starr finally consults with a surgeon about gender reassignment surgery. Later on, Sidney tells MariahLynn about it. Unfortunately, Sidney Starr doesn’t have the $30,000 for the procedure. However, MariahLynn is supportive and springs into action trying to figure out what Sidney can do to get the money. MariahLynn’s advice is that Sidney needs a record, but not just any record, she needs a bop, something to get the people excited. In related news, Nya Lee goes to Rich Dollaz and talks all about the drama that went down with Sidney. Rich is swayed by Nya Lee’s testimony that Sidney can’t be taken seriously and he’s ready to sever business ties. Later on, Sidney Starr and MariahLynn present a new record to Rich Dollaz. It’s Sidney and it sounds much better than previous stuff and even makes Rich decide to give her another chance. Basically, MariahLynn should have been the one to groom Sidney this entire time. Back to Maino. Now we find him in the studio with Alexis Skyy and plays the track from earlier for her. Then Maino’s girlfriend walks in the middle of this because Alexis invited her to her studio session to hear the fire track. Awkward. Alexis gets a sense of what’s going on and now she’s irritated that Maino had entertained the track with Maggie first. Alexis excuses herself so that Maino and Maggie can talk. Maino repeats that he didn’t really think Maggie was serious about music and frankly, he wishes she would pursue more stable options than music, like launching businesses (she already has a boutique and he wishes she would focus on that and other, non-music related things). But Maggie is going to do what she wants and what she wants is music. Maggie decided to break away from Maino and link up with Hollywood Play, a rapper she met over a decade ago. They record their song, but less than 12-hours after recording, Hollywood Play is gunned down. So, a celebration of art turns into a vigil for the slain rapper. Finally, the episode concludes with Juelz proposing to Kimbella, you know the proposal. It’s the one we saw go viral a couple of months ago. Isn’t that sweet? Ride or die for years for someone who doesn’t really treat you right and then after they lose their teeth to a drug addiction and are on the verge of going to jail they’ll propose. Congrats? Many of them are racking up accolades for their work while breaking down racial barriers in an effort to ensure that the next generation of Black filmmakers have a seat at the table. One of those trailblazers is Chinonye Chukwu . Chukwu’s film —which stars Alfre Woodard , Danielle Brooks , Wendell Pierce , and Aldis Hodge —is centered on a prison warden who has to carry out death row executions. The film explores how doing the executions has a psychological impact. Chukwu, who wrote and directed the film, is humbled by the honor. “When everybody was saying ‘No’ this story does not have an audience, you, Sundance and the people who have seen this film have proven that there is an audience for this film, and I thank you,” she said in a statement, according to Deadline . “I wrote this because I wanted audiences, I wanted us, I wanted myself to connect with the ecosystem of humanity’s connected to incarceration, so we as a society can stop defining people by their worst possible acts, that we can end mass incarceration, and dismantle the mass prison industrial complex, and root our societies in true justice and mercy and freedom, which is all tied to our joy inside, that nobody can ever incarcerate or execute.” The filmmaker joins a distinguished list of pivotal directors who have won the Grand Jury Prize for their U.S. Dramatic entries, including Ryan Coogler , Damien Chazelle , and Desiree Akhavan . Black women in entertainment are starting off the year strong. In January, Marsai Martin made history as Hollywood’s youngest executive producer, Regina Hall became the first Black woman to receive a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress, and Taraji P. So just in case you’ve been able to block out all the awful stories coming out about Chris Brown lately, you should know that last week, he was arrested for rape. You should also let us know how you managed to block out Chris Brown news, because that sounds like a delightful skill. On January 22nd, Chris, one of his bodyguards, and another member of his entourage were detained in Paris on rape charges . According to the woman who pressed the charges, she met Chris and his people at a club, then the party traveled to a hotel. At the hotel, she claimed that Chris “corned her in a room that was locked,” and “there were forced sexual relations.” These are quotes from a statement by her attorney , by the way. The two other men with Chris allegedly assaulted her in another area of the hotel, and she says she was raped a total of four times. She also says that she was forced to do cocaine during all of this too, and that while she “was not pressured physically” during all of this, she was “under great psychological pressure.” And just in case there was any confusion, the attorney states that “My client explains that it was non-consensual sex.” The whole story is a lot to take in, and it’s definitely hard to hear. Chris is making everything worse, too, by suing the woman for defamation of character . He’s also selling t-shirts that read “this bitch lyin’,” because that’s just the kind of person he is. This is hardly his first rodeo with this kind of thing — we all remember when he viciously assaulted Rihanna all those years ago. Since then, he’s shown time and time again that he’s a very violent person with a blatant disregard for pretty much every other person on the planet. Last May, he was also sued for allegedly raping someone at his home , so that’s definitely something to note here. All of these terrible things keep building up and building up for this case, and Chris just stacked another terrible thing on top of everything else. Yesterday on Instagram, Chris posted this video: Chris Brown Responds to Rape Allegations We see some footage of Paris, landmarks and French flags and Chris prancing around, looking happy and carefree while one of his songs plays in the background. Then there’s a car crash sound effect, as unbearably tacky as that sounds, and we hear several news announcers discussing the arrest. After that, it cuts to some audio of Chris making a statement over more footage of him smiling and looking like a nice boy having a fun time in Paris. “My mom and grandma always said, ‘The Lord can give you a gift and he can take it away,'” he begins. “And I feel like I don’t have to explain any bullsh-t or any lie or anything that somebody has been perpetrating or portraying me as.” “So, you know, for me it’s like, all right, cool,” he continues. “I came out to do a job, and that’s what I did.” “We gonna shoot this motherf-cking video.” Dumb move, right? Maybe if Chris didn’t have the criminal history he has, this would be OK. And that’s a big maybe. But everyone knows all about how he is, so honestly, it’s not like these new allegations are all that hard to believe. Like, are we supposed to believe that Chris has done everything he’s ever done, but the latest story is just completely outlandish? Then rumors began to swirl that her husband Kevin Hunter was a cheater who often got physical with her . And after returning to her show, viewers noticed that she seemed pretty out of sorts, slurring her words and what not. Needless to say, the daytime queen is taking a much needed break from her hosting duties to focus on her health. Earlier this month, she released a statement saying: “As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend. Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ Disease that will require treatment. Wendy will be under the strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital. Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.” This isn’t the first time Wendy’s health has caused some concern. You may recall that last year, her show went on a three-week hiatus for her to focus on her health after she was diagnosed with Graves Disease. And last October, she fainted on stage after overheating in her Halloween costume. As of January 21, the Wendy Williams Show has aired repeat episodes and planned to produce original episodes with a variety of hosts starting the week of January 28. On January 30th, it was announced that Nick Cannon would be taking over Wendy’s hosting duties. Source: Sacramento Bee / Getty Stephon Clark’s Family Files Federal Lawsuit Stephon Clark was gunned down in his grandmother’s backyard by two Sacramento police officers who failed to identify themselves and failed to seek medical attention for him according to a new federal lawsuit filed by Stephon’s family. According to CNN , the Clarks, like so many Black families across America, are looking for some level of accountability from police officers who wanton kill, dare we say murder, unarmed Black people. The lawsuit not only alleges that the unidentified officers used excessive force when they fired 20 shots without a single warning, but also that Stephon was racially profiled. Of the twenty shots fired, seven of them hit Stephon, three of those in his back according to the Clark family’s forensic pathologist. “When the facts are fully disclosed, we are confident that a jury will deliver justice that reflects how grossly the police land city officials failed Stephon, his family and the people of Sacramento,” Brian Panish an attorney for Clark’s children said in a statement. What does the city have to say about this? “Out of deference to the judicial process and because this is a matter of active litigation, we must respectfully decline to comment,” City Attorney Susana Alcala Wood said in a statement. Of course. SMH. We hope the Clark family can get some form of justice out of this murderous abuse of power.
To be clear, the racist homophobes who attacked Jussie Smollett are the worst people on the planet. But the woman featured on this video has to rank among the bottom 10. In footage that has been viewed by nearly three million people on Facebook, this unnamed passenger was on board a United Airline flight last week when she very openly and very loudly complained about the people sitting on each side of her. The woman is in a middle seat and telling someone on the phone that the folks to her left and right are simply gross and overweight. She's saying this very much in their presence, of course. “Oh my goodness, I don’t know how I’m going to do this the next four hours. This is just impossible because they’re squishing me,” she says in the video, adding: “At least they’ll keep me warm.” After hanging up, the woman asks a flight attendant to find her a window seat and “get me out of here [because] I can’t do this.” At this point, one of the people who was the victim of the fat-shaming speaks up and says to the same flight attendant: “Excuse me, can you find her another seat? Because I will not be verbally abused by this bitch or anybody else.” When the awful individual is finally told that, yes, she can change seats, she announce for all to hear: “Thank goodness, because I eat salad, okay?” Fortunately, many other passengers then spoke out in defense of the victims and against this despicable lady. “You should be ashamed of yourself, what you’re doing is so terrible,” one person says, to which she replies: “I’m not going to be politically correct. Why don’t you sit between those two big pigs?” Thankfully, this story has a positive ending: The abuser was eventually escorted off the plane. “United flight attendants care about the safety and well being of all of our customers which is why they acted quickly to find a different seat for the disruptive customer,” a United spokesman said. “When it became clear that this passenger’s behaviour was likely to be problematic on this flight, she was provided alternate travel arrangements first thing the next morning.” WATCH THE INCIDENT UNFOLD HERE.

Sources close to Jussie told TMZ that he arrived in Chicago from New York on late Monday. At around 2 a.m., he reportedly got hungry and left his place to go to a Subway. This is when someone yelled at him, “Aren’t you that fa**ot ‘Empire’ ni**er,” according to the source. The two men, who were both White and wearing ski masks, then proceeded to viciously attack Jussie as he tried to fight them off. Sources say they even put a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him and fled the scene as they yelled, “This is MAGA country.” Jussie was taken to Northwestern Memorial hospital for treatment, and he was discharged on Tuesday morning. An editor for HuffPost , Philip Lewis , tweeted out a statement released by the Chicago Police Department. “Detectives are currently working to gather video, identify potential witnesses and establish an investigative timeline,” the statement read. “The victim is fully cooperating with investigators and we ask anyone with information about this incident to contact Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8382 or report it anonymously to www.cpdtip.com .” Chicago Police Department just sent out this statement re: Jussie Smollett pic.twitter.com/DxQswZn8xd — philip lewis (@Phil_Lewis_) January 29, 2019 According to ThatGrapeJuice.Net , Jussie was sent a threatening letter before his attack on Monday reading, “You will die black f**.” TMZ sources say the letter was delivered eight days ago. The envelope in which the letter was sent also seemed to say MAGA in the upper left corner. Smollett plays openly gay character Jamal Lyon on Empire, one of the few Black gay male characters on a hit T.V. show, especially when it premiered in 2015. Since the show’s success, Smollett has become more candid about his own sexuality. When he visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2015 , he told Ellen that he never considered himself to be in the closet. “There’s never been a closet that I’ve been in,” he said. He added that his decision not to talk about his personal life was not an attempt to “hide or deny who God made me.” He continued “There is, without a doubt, no closet that I’ve ever been in, and I just wanted to make that clear.” In a 2016 interview with Out magazine, Jussie clarified, “If I had to label myself, I would label myself as a gay man. With that said, I believe that love is the only thing that matters, and I would hope that anybody would leave themselves open — not to gender, but to love.” Since the vile turn of events on Monday, Jussie has received nothing but love from fans, celebrities and friends like Empire co-creator Lee Daniels.
