Four people died and 40 more were injured after a stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair last night, just before the country band Sugarland performed. High winds are believed to have been the cause of the tragedy. The collapse was partially captured by a concert-goer. Watch: Sugarland Concert Stage Collapse The stage collapse was as unexpected as it was lethal. “The wind just picked up and the stage just caught and the roof just caught and it went up like a sail and then it crashed forward into the people standing in the front,” said a reporter for WANE-TV in Indiana. “There were people trapped underneath and everyone was running and screaming. They were asking any medics or nurses not to leave.” Our condolences to the families of those were were lost.
The stakes are higher and the deaths even more gruesome in Final Destination 5 , which opens today in theaters nationwide. In the latest installment, Death is back from holiday and out to decimate the newest group of young teenagers who dare to defy its foolproof design. With a heart-pounding suspension bridge collapse and a jaw-dropping twist ending, first time director Steven Quale and screenwriter Eric Heisserer have given the Final Destination mythos a much needed reboot. The Urban Daily sat down with the cast to find out out what’s it’s like working on one of Hollywood’s creepiest franchises. Screenwriter Eric Heisserer on bringing something new to the Final Destination franchise: “I wanted to bring a moral dilemna for the characters because if they’re just waiting to die in succession, it flattens the drama.” Arlen Escarpeta on escaping “the curse of the black guy” in horror films: “It’s such a stigma that the black guy always dies first. Can I be like the Barack Obama of horror films?” P.J. Byrne on suffering for “his art”: “I had to go to an actual acupuncturist before filming, so they could put needles all over my body. The two that destroyed me were the ones that went into my ears—it was rough, but I did it for the movie.” Courtney B. Vance on joining the “Final Destination” franchise: “I’m a very big fan of Avatar and (director) Steve Quale was a part of this. So I told him whatever I can do, I want to be a part of it.” Jacqueline Macinnes Woods on shooting the laser eye surgery scene: “We shot from 9 at night til 6 in the morning. The eye speculum went in and out of my eye like 70 times. They numbed my eye put the speculum in, they even glued my eyelashes to my eyebrows. At one point I was so tired but I couldn’t sleep because my eye couldn’t fully close.” Miles Fisher on his character’s trajectory from good guy to bad guy: “It was a challenge. When I read the script I thought “Ok, what would you do if in one second, hundreds of people died in front of you including your friends and work colleagues? If what happened in the film happened in real life I think some people would truly go crazy.” Ellen Wroe (a real life gymnast) shared the worst gymnastics injury she ever witnessed: “My sister Winnie was doing a double back dismount and she over-rotated her knee, and her knee hit her cheek. Her entire cheekbone broke in eight places; she had to get plastic surgery. Luckily, nothing has happened to me. ” Tony Todd responding to various theories as to the true identity of his character William Bludworth: “When I started on the first Final Destination I created this whole backstory. What is interesting (about Bludworth) is that he primarily delivers exposition. People bring their own sense of mortality in watching. If you think he’s the angel of death, which he’s not, or the Grim Reaper, which he’s not, that’s what you get out of it.” Nicholas D’agosto on going toe to toe with in his scenes with Tony Todd: “He’s a tall guy, he has a very imposing physical presence. When he’s Bludworth he plants his feet and looks at you and speaks to you directly and when people do that, you’re intimidated. When Tony looked at me I blanked out and asked “Um, can I do that again and get my lines right this time?” Emma Bell on the surprising twist to the end of Final Destination 5: “I thought it was great. Up until that point I thought the film was really good. The minute we got to the set to film the final scene I thought “Wait a minute!” That’s when it dawned on me. It’s a great twist and I hope the fans will really enjoy it, because you won’t see it coming.”

Promo reflects on Brit’s career and inspirations while looking ahead to August 28 awards show. The 30-second promo interlaces Spears’ latest hit “I Wanna Go” with her own “Slave 4 U,” Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and Madonna’s “Everybody” as dancers dressed in Brit’s most-famous outfits crowd around her. There’s also a nod to Michael Jackson, with a poster on the wall that says “Billy Jean,” in reference to MJ’s hit “Billie Jean,” and a dancer who mimics the late King of Pop’s iconic moves. At the end of the promo, Spears stands in front of a wall that cryptically reads “A Tribute to Britney Spears” before the date of the VMAs — 8.28 — flashes on the screen. Stay tuned to see what it all means … Spears, whose “Till the World Ends” is nominated for Best Pop Video and Best Choreography, filmed the promo last month in Miami, and MTV News was on the set for a behind-the-scenes look. “The general concept of what we are going for is basically called ‘The Muse Factory,’ ” director Jahai Brightly explained. “It’s where all your favorite artists that are going to be at the Video Music Awards this year meet and explore their influences and inspirations.” The promo pulls from Spears’ own musical influences from over the years, which is portrayed through the set design, wardrobe and, of course, through Brit herself. In the promo, Spears pays homage to Madonna, Michael and Janet, whom she calls “the people I’ve grown up listening to and totally inspire [me].” The promo doesn’t just show the pop star’s own musical icons; it also reminds us of what a musical force Spears is as well. “We are going to be exploring her past styles,” Brightly said of Spears’ classic looks. “In particular, past six styles that represent each of her albums, with the seventh one being the current incarnation.” Spears, whose outfit was designed to represent her current style, is dressed in a custom-made studded leather jacket, a shredded black T-shirt and her signature cutoff jean shorts. The promo begins with Spears paying homage to her latest album, Femme Fatale. “I did the opening segment, where I’m at the mirror and I’m representing how many albums I’ve done, which is number seven,” Spears said. Spears then begins her journey down memory lane, where she is surrounded by dancers dressed up in some of her signature video looks, such as the flight-attendant costume in “Toxic” and her infamous red catsuit in “Oops! … I Did It Again.” “I’m walking down a hallway and I’m seeing memorabilia of all my performances that I’ve done in the past,” Spears said. “All my dancers are dressed up in my old outfits, which it’s really cool.” What do you think of Britney’s VMA promo? In our brief conversation, we talked about how the Yankee season is going so far, the toughest part of the game, and hip-hop. Let’s get right into it. How do you feel about the Yankees’ season thus far? I feel pretty good. We’ve been having a pretty good year. We’re in second place right now. I think we’ve been playing really well. We had a tough loss against the Angels, but we still have a chance to make the playoffs. So we’ll go from there. What are your thoughts on catcher, Jorge Posada, being benched? It’s tough, man. He’s a legend. He’s done a lot for this organization and a lot for this city. I think it is just tough to see somebody go through that. But Posada will be right back where he belongs soon enough. I’m confident in that. How would you like the Yankee season to end? Hopefully, we win the World Series. I mean, that’s why I came to New York because we have a chance of winning it every year. Everybody knows that. That’s pretty cool and a special feeling to have. How do you balance family with being on the road and traveling majority of the year? That is a hard thing to deal with during the season, but in the summertime, my kids are out of school. I get to hang out with them and spend the time they need when the summer hits. We do whatever we can on days I’m off. But it is part of the life. I get to come home for the off season and they have at home everyday for four months. I wouldn’t trade the time with my family for anything. I know you’re a big hip hop fan. Who is the rapper you would say most represents your pitching style? Rick Ross . I think he has the style and attitude are the representation of my pitching style. He is confident and headstrong. My feel like I pitch with a confidence. That’s why I have to go with Rick Ross on that one. Plus, I’m a huge fan of his. What albums are you listening to now? Well, you know Watch The Throne just dropped so I’m bumping that heavy. That’s really it. I’m not listening to anything else as of now. Jay-Z and Kanye West have a great album out. I’m definitely enjoying all of the tracks. I have no favorite yet.
