Stock Market Shocks and Relationship Quivers

You can expect that the current round of stock market volatility is going to be tougher emotionally on a  larger number of   people than even 2008’s crash.  You might also find it to be much tougher on  your relationships with life and business partners, family and even friends. The reason is simple: unlike in 2008, more of us sense on a deeper psychic level that the system is actually broken. Our standard all-American faith that a quick fix might be possible has been shattered by the persistence of high unemployment and by the outrageous and unreal nature of politics in the U.S – to the degree that many people now  suspect, and not surprisingly,  that elections no longer make a difference. The most recent poll: 76% of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction. The emerging sense that something fundamental has gone wrong – as in fact it has, with both parties beholden to the corporate interests that fund campaigns – has increased generalized anxiety and stress. Therapists and social workers confirm rising emotional and psychological  issues among the populace. Most humans are not trained to deal with uncertainty, the way astronauts are trained, and so we tend to trigger into confusion, anxiety, anger and depression when the Big U shows up. Like any emotions, we can suppress them just so long before they find an outlet. One notable public outlet was Tea Party member public anger over Obamacare. One always reliable private outlet is our relationships , which tend to take poundings in times like this unless we give ourselves the training to manage them. What I call “obliteration fear” arises alongside economic uncertainty. People tend to get closer in their unconscious and in their imaginations to some picture of bleak fate. Most of us are ill-trained by the society and our family upbringings to deal creatively with this fear and uncertainty. Instead, we rely on  coping mechanisms we developed in childhood to manage family stress or not getting our core emotional needs met. There are only six of these mechanisms: fight, flight, seek approval, control, manipulate, or sacrifice yourself to “fix” or enable someone else. We tend to have one or more of these coping mechanisms dominate our reactive behavior, although most of us rely on more than one in dealing with other people and with difficult situations.  You can figure out which ones you most rely on. A problem with coping mechanisms is that they don’t fix the problem.  In fact they aggravate the underlying emotions of fear, anger, sadness/despair and shock. And aggravated emotions find their outlet, very often against the person with whom you are in relationship. As a life coach who trains people to deal with these issues, I know there are healthy fixes that enrich a person’s entire life.  There isn’t space here to share that training but I will explain one helpful relief practice called Soma Breathing. Instead of acting out, locate the emotional pain in your body. Focus on that part of your body and then simultaneously focus on directing your breath to that area. Don’t change your breathing pattern; instead, simply guide the breath to the pained area and feel it touching the area as a sweet kiss of soothing.  As it leaves imagine it carrying away a small amount of the stress. Do this for a few minutes to warm up and then intuitively pick a soothing color and image to breathe in alongside the breath – or as colored breath.  Continue until you feel the emotional outburst or deep pain moment has passed. Use as frequently and as long as needed. For additional guidance, you can check the Free Download on this website, jaylevin.com or  relationshipcounselingtoday.com . There are also audios available covering training in critical areas of life success and relationships, including emotional and mind mastery. Beyond this, as a former political journalist and editor, I share the sensibility that something fundamental is amiss in America and I further share the analysis of MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan that the core issue is that the vast majority of politicians work for the big money sources that fund their campaigns and not for the overall benefit of the U.S. As Ratigan notes, it is going to take a Constitutional amendment to take money out of politics – and there is no more urgent public matter than to insist of all politicians that they get behind such an Amendment. **** J ay Levin, the founder and former Editor-in Chief of the LA Weekly newspaper, has been a highly successful life and relationship coach and trainer for 12 years.  He recently made the core of his work available as classes in Life Rehab and Mastery and in Relationships. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: Should the Show Go On?

It’s one thing to experience it, but then to watch it again on television and know that millions of other people are watching, it’s going to be tough. So said Taylor Armstrong last week about The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, a quote that referred to the focus of season two on her crumbling marriage to Russell Armstrong. Now, following his sudden, tragic death , Bravo is left to wonder: Should the show go on? The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 2 Trailer The season premiere is scheduled for September 5, but Andy Cohen – Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development and host of Watch What Happens Live – admits he isn’t sure what the network will do: “We’re all still trying to process [the] very sad news, and looking at how to proceed with the series, which has finished primary production… we’ll let you know what we decide when we do. In the meantime, we’re sending our thoughts and prayers to Taylor and the rest of Russell’s family.” Might Bravo actually axe the season? We doubt it. Edit out inappropriate scenes? Air everything as filmed? What SHOULD it do? You tell us:

Georgia Congressmen John Lewis and Hank Johnson along with The Congressional Black Caucus are in Atlanta TODAY, with more than 100 companies who are taking resumes, applications and ready to hire. They are at Atlanta Technical College. Registration starts at 8 am. Congressman John Lewis says this jobs event is one of five in major urban cities to help reduce the destructive high unemployment rates. Also concerned, Congressman Hank Johnson who believes targeted initiatives should be discussed to help minority communities. The general unemployment rate in Georgia is 10.1%, but African Americans suffer 16% unemployment. The problem is more staggering when it comes to black males, who suffer 35-45% joblessness. Hope is here. The Congressional Black Caucus “For the People” Jobs Tour –Atlanta, August 18 Congressman John Lewis, Congressman Hank Johnson, Hosts Atlanta Technical College 1560 Metropolitan Pkwy SW Atlanta, GA 30310 What to bring to the event: 1. First, bring a great attitude. You have less than 4 seconds to make a first impression. Your attitude is the greatest influence on the impression you make. Solid eye contact and a strong handshake are a must. 2.  Bring several copies of your resume on good quality paper. Make sure that you check for grammar and spelling errors. Show that you take the job fair as seriously as the recruiting companies. 3.  Depending on the job you’re after, you may wish to bring a portfolio with samples of your work. Bring your sense of flexibility along… there are likely to be many suitable vacancies. 4.  Finally, along with a positive attitude, the most important thing to bring is a point of view. That is, think from an employer’s point of view. Companies want to recruit the best staff to drive their companies forward. They’ll be pleased to meet with you to discuss opportunities; however you should be ready to sell yourself to them. 9 Crazy Ex/Stalker Anthems

Go here to read the rest:

As the summer season makes its exit, so are men and women leaving summer romances. Depending on the people, most break ups are hard but you get over them fairly easily. In other cases, you’re distraught and can’t contain the outpouring of emotion. That’s fine. Do what you need to do to get over a person. ( There are some suggestions here, ladies ) In the most extreme instances, one person in the relationship doesn’t understand when it’s over. Those are the ones who still call intensely and show up unannounced. A lot of times you don’t catch the subtle signs of crazy. The Urban Daily and I ( @JaySpeakEasy ) decided we’d help you out. If you’re in a relationship and they constantly play any of these songs–run! Jennifer Hudson – “No One’s Gonna Love You” Jennifer Hudson lets the man know from jump that there’s a little bit of crazy somewhere in her head. She sings about her going through some things before getting into the current relationship. The trouble arises when she starts talking about he better not send her to voice mail because all she’s going to do is text him. Here’s a tip: if you got sent to voice mail, the person doesn’t want to talk to you. Leave them alone and maybe they will call you back. But the calling and texting one after the other is a huge turn off and let’s me know you need more attention than I’m willing to bestow. Fall back. The Supremes and The Temptations – “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” This is a duet between a man and a woman, the title should raise a red flag. Despite the song’s intentions of being a sweet love song, it comes off stalker like because there are undertones of forcing someone to love you. If they don’t like you, move on. People like this switch personalities like Lynn Whitfield in ‘A .’ one minute they’re sweet and loving and the next thing you know, you’re playing James Caan to their  Kathy Bates in Misery . You all saw how that one ended. J ohn Legend ft. Kanye West – “It’s Over” John Legend takes the role of the person being harassed after a break up. The girl in the relationship tried to change him. When he walked instead of caving to her demands, she became obsessive. The calling was non-stop and John Legend wants her to get it through her head that the relationship is finished. If you have an ex still calling and coming around, two things should run through your head, “What the hell was I thinking when I started dealing with them.” and “Damn, I’m good.” Whichever you prefer. Jazmine Sullivan – “Bust Your Windows” Jazmine Sullivan made a name for herself with this song about destroying an ex’s whip because he destroyed her heart. Homegirl busted his windows, scratched her initials in the upholstery with a crowbar, and went to town messing his car up. The troubling thing about the whole episode is she’s still crying at the end of the song. That’s reason to be concerned because that means the dismantling of the car wasn’t satisfying enough, which means she may do something worse to get her desired effect of making the man miserable. Plus, they’re crazy enough to tell you to watch them do it?! You better have them locked underneath the jail because the streets won’t be safe. Lionel Richie – “Hello” This track has ‘crazy person’ written all over it. Lyrics like “I’ve been alone with you inside my mind/And in my dreams I’ve kissed your lips a thousand times” showcase a person who is a stalker with good intentions. This guy doesn’t want to be a creeper, he just doesn’t know how to express his feelings verbally. Don’t let that fool you, ladies. Just because he doesn’t want to get crazy with you doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of doing so. It’s people personified by “Hello” that will chop you up into tiny pieces if you don’t accept their advances. Proceed with caution. Isyss – “Single For The Rest of My Life” The now defunct girl group’s biggest hit is also a stalker anthem. Think about it. These ladies sing, “If I can’t have you, I’ll just be single for the rest of my life.” Excuse me, shortie! You will not be single for ever because some guy doesn’t like you. If you feel that strongly about him, you might need to see a therapist in order to not go down that Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction road. No need for boiling bunnies. Find a new man and let it be over! ISYSS – Single For The Rest Of My Life (Official Video) . Watch more top selected videos about: ISYSS Mya – Ridin Mya is gorgeous, so why she can’t keep a man is beyond me. In “Ridin,” she drives all around looking for her man because she cooked him dinner and he didn’t come home to eat it. Some may say this song is more about a woman’s intuition than stalking someone. Those sentiments have merit, however, Mya’s on here because of the lengths she goes to in order to figure out if he’s cheating or not. No need to drive past his mother’s, cousin’s, baby mama’s, and his doctor’s office. No need for all of that. You just wasted a whole tank of gas chasing this guy when you know he’s out doing dirt. Gas is expensive as hell these days. You could’ve stayed home and went all Kelis “Caught Out There” on him. Lisa Stansfield – All Around The World “All Around The World” is one of the catchiest stalker songs ever. When you hear it you just have to bob your head. The music is infectious enough to distract from the stalker message. Stansfield is looking for her baby all around the world with no luck. If you couldn’t find him in the first three countries you scoured, you need to have a seat and do some soul searching. There are millions of men on this planet and you can’t find one? You and your stalker tendencies are the problem. Point blank, period. The Police – Every Breath You Take A lot of people mistake this song as a love ballad.  Personally, I think there’s no way in the world those lyrics could be interpreted as pure love. If someone used these lyrics in general conversation, the police would immediately be called. (No pun intended.) I would not allow myself to be put in a situation where a female wants to know my every move. Actions like that cause claustrophobia in relationships. Hold up, back it up , and give me some space. Moved by the grief of those families who lost loved ones. Moved by the pain of those who were injured and the fear of their families. Moved by the great heroism as I watched so many brave Indianapolis fans actually run toward the stage to try and help lift and rescue those injured. Moved by the quickness and organization of the emergency workers who set up the triage and tended to the injured,” she wrote. “There are no words to process a moment of this magnitude and gravity.
