Kreayshawn’s Road From Smelly Cat To VMAs, On ‘When I Was 17’

‘That cat was disgusting. It would only poop in drains,’ Best New Artist nominee recalls of her pet as a teenager. By Kara Warner Kreayshawn Photo: MTV News This week’s new episode of “When I Was 17” is full of VMA Best New Artist nominees. Tune in to MTV on Saturday at 11 a.m. to hear stories of awkward teen memories from Big Sean , Tyler, the Creator and Kreayshawn. It wasn’t so long ago that 21-year-old hip-hop “it” girl Kreayshawn was 17 and starting out on her own. “When I was 17, I had saved up a little bit of money, and I got my first apartment,” Kreayshawn recalled. “Everyone knows I’m a cat person, so my friends surprised me with a cat. “This cat was definitely slow,” she continued. “It would crawl into the blinds, curl itself into the blinds and just sit there. Maybe it was trying to kill itself?” According to the “Gucci Gucci” rapper, the cat’s questionable behavior didn’t end there. “That cat was disgusting. It would only poop in drains,” she revealed, adding that it made taking showers particularly precarious and smelly. “You’d be taking a shower and the water would start backing up,” she said. “Even worse you’d have to dig it out from the drain. It was so gross.” With the days of questionable cat behavior and clogged drains behind her, for now, and on a cleaner and much more glamorous note, Kreayshawn will be bringing her outgoing personality and sass to the VMA red carpet as a host for MTV.com . “I’m super excited to be the red-carpet host at this year’s VMAs,” Kreayshawn said. “I can harass celebrities about what they’re wearing, what they ate before they got to the carpet, all sorts of funny stuff.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring VMA nominees Big Sean, Tyler, the Creator and Kreayshawn — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’: The Reviews Are In!

Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison star in Guillermo del Toro’s reimagined horror flick. By Terri Schwartz Katie Holmes in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” Photo: Miramax There are few childhood fears more common than being afraid of the dark, but Bailee Madison’s character, Sally, in Guillermo del Toro and Troy Nixey’s reimagining of the ’70s horror flick “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” certainly has good reason to be scared. And she’ll likely never want to leave anything for the tooth fairy again. Del Toro loved the 1973 TV movie of the same name that terrified him as a small child, and set about remaking it. Hoping to scare the pants off a new generation, the “Pan’s Labyrinth” director co-wrote the screenplay and produced the film and handed it off to director Nixey. So will “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” have you leaving the lights on all night, or let you sleep like a baby this weekend? Here’s what the critics had to say: The Story “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” which puts Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and young Bailee Madison in some serious stomach-churning, can’t-bear-to-watch-it jeopardy, is really, truly, very scary. … At least until about 30 minutes in, when you start to be distracted by the lack of logic in the storytelling and the fact that the nasty little gremlins responsible for all the bumps in the night can be offed pretty easily. Possibly a good sturdy broom would have been enough to clean them out along with the cobwebs in the corners of the Gothic manse where the film is set.” — Betsy Sharkey,

Eminem, Nirvana Pave Way For 2011 VMA Best New Artist

Big Sean, Foster the People, Kreayshawn, Tyler, the Creator or Wiz Khalifa will follow in their footsteps come Sunday. By Gil Kaufman Eminem accepts the award for Best New Artist at the 1999 VMAs Photo: Frank Micelotta/ ImageDirect We’re all rookies at some point, but when it comes to the MTV Video Music Awards ‘ Best New Artist category, you only get one shot at being the new kid on the block. And for this year’s nominees — Big Sean , Foster the People , , Tyler, the Creator and Wiz Khalifa — now is their time to shine and join an illustrious list of previous winners that includes Lady Gaga, Guns N’ Roses, Justin Bieber and 50 Cent. Since the very first Moonman was handed out in this category in 1984, MTV has a pretty stellar track record for picking artists who either went on to superstardom or at least represent a very specific moment in time (we’re looking at you, Jesus Jones). While hip-hop heavy, this year’s nominees span a pretty wide range of styles, from Kreayshawn’s gritty, viral sensation “Gucci Gucci” to Khalifa’s day-in-the-life “Black and Yellow,” Tyler’s bugged-out, arty “Yonkers,” Big Sean’s penthouse-rockin’ “My Last” and the DIY feel of the lone rock entry, Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” Who’s gonna win? Well, you’ll have to tune in Sunday to find out, but chances are whoever takes home the prize will be a name you’ll be hearing for a good, long time. The very first BNA Moonman went to the Eurythmics in 1984, notable not just because of that British synth soul duo’s long, hit-filled career, but because they beat out a singer that went on to quite a career herself: Madonna. Over the years, such beloved bands as Crowded House (1987), GN’R (1988), Nirvana (1992), Eminem (1999), Alicia Keys (2001), 50 (2003) and Gaga (2009) have taken the prize. “I will always remember Best New Artist,” Lady Gaga told MTV News recently, recalling how she surprised Eminem by asking him to hold her Moonman as she thanked “God and the gays” and took off her red lace mask. “The first time that MTV recognized me, that changed my life.” Of course, there have also been some winners whose video work represented their artistic and commercial high point, such as ‘Til Tuesday (1985), A-ha (1986), Michael Penn (1990), the aforementioned Jesus Jones (1991), Fiona Apple (1997) and Macy Gray (2000). Even more surprising are the commercial heights reached by a number of nominated acts who didn’t win the award but went on to some pretty stellar careers regardless, including Whitney Houston (1986), Lenny Kravitz (1990), Beck and Green Day (1994), Kid Rock (1999), Christina Aguilera and Pink (2000), Coldplay (2001), Katy Perry (2008) and Nicki Minaj (2010). And, of course, there are the nominees who make you think: Really? Sure, Timbuk3’s “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades” was fun, but Best New Artist? The same might be said for others whose careers never quite reached their initial peaks, from Neneh Cherry (1989) to Jane Child (1990), Gerardo (1991), Chumbawamba (1998), Orgy (1999), the Darkness (2004) and James Blunt (2006). Viewers can vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com online or m.mtv.com on their mobile phone. In addition, Best New Artist text voting is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 66333. Voting continues through the show, live on Sunday. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. R.I.P. 9/11 Victim Ernest James’ Remains Identified After 10 Years!

This is sad. After ten years, 9/11 victim Ernest James has become the 1,629th person to have his remains identified. The New York City medical examiner’s office said on Tuesday that it had identified the remains of Ernest James, 40, a victim of the World Trade Center attack. The remains were identified “within the last few days” through DNA testing, said Ellen S. Borakove, a spokeswoman for the office. She declined to disclose more specifics about what type of remains were tested. Mr. James, an IT specialist who worked for the professional services company Marsh & McLennan, was one of nearly 300 members of the firm who died on Sept. 11, 2001. In addition, more than 60 consultants working with the firm that morning also died. A spokesman for the company said, “We continue to mourn their loss and honor their memory.” James’ loved ones say they had accepted his death the day of the attack. “When I couldn’t reach him,” said his fiancée, Monique Keyes, “I pretty much, deep inside, knew.” Asked for her memories of Mr James as the anniversary of his death approached, Miss Keyes said: “He just loved to make you laugh”. So far, Ms. Borakove said, officials in her agency’s DNA/World Trade Center Identification Group have identified 1,629 of the people who died in the attack. Before Mr. James, the most recent identification of human remains was made in May. Ms. Borakove said efforts to identify remains would continue. “As long as there is technology available, doctors have made a promise that we would continue to try to identify people,” she said. Can you imagine how it must feel to be one of Ernest’s family members? Trying to recover from his death and then having it rehashed all over TEN YEARS LATER because that’s how long it took to identify his remains. There may still be some degree of relief though, by at least having him identified and potentially being able to hold a burial. R.I.P. Jay-Z, Kanye West Hold Onto Billboard Throne

Watch the Throne stays at #1, despite 59 percent drop in sales. By Aly Semigran Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images After an impressive debut week on the Billboard 200 chart, Kanye West and Jay-Z ‘s collaborative effort Watch the Throne, will once again sit at the top. Adding to the 436,000 copies they sold last week, the hip-hop dynamos moved another 177,000 this week, bringing their current total to 613,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures. While the Throne won’t get bragging rights to 2011’s biggest first-week seller on the Billboard charts (that honor still belongs to Lady Gaga), they successfully beat Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends record for one-week sales on iTunes. And needless to say, they’ve claimed the #1 spot on iTunes once again. Though the second week of Watch the Throne saw a 59 percent drop in sales, it was enough to hold off chart newcomers. None of the week’s debuts saw six-digit sales, and only two will crack the top 10: Life at Best from country’s Eli Young Band at #6 (35,000) and the latest “Twilight” soundtrack favorite Blue October , Any Man in America at #8 (27,000). Other notable newcomers include rockers Breaking Benjamin ‘s Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin at #22 (14,000) and actor Jeff Bridges ‘ self-titled record, which places at #25 (13,000). The rest of this week’s top 10: Adele ‘s 21, (#2, 80,000), Now That’s What I Call Music 39 (#3, 63,000), Luke Bryan ‘s Tailgates & Tanlines (#4, 53,000), Jason Aldean ‘s My Kinda Party (#5, 37,000), Eric Church ‘s Chief (#7, 31,000), Beyonc

J.Lo Gets Head of the Day

He must be an actor, cuz no one in their right mind would be this happy with their head that close to J.Lo’s devil pussy….I mean they’d be too busy trying to escape it’s allure…it’s magnetic, hard to resist, cuz it is J.Lo and she’s better to K.Fed, if you’re able to ignore that Mark Anthony guy who she was married to, who looks like he was out of a horror movie, something I can only attribute to having survived her twat…. I don’t knwo, i hate the bitch, I’m convinced she’s the devil, and thus her vagina is her devil’s tool to get everything her little spic, diva, ass wants.

In 2008, my friend and I were on Youtube just looking around at…

In 2008, my friend and I were on Youtube just looking around at random videos when we came across this video of a kid singing ‘With You’ by Chris Brown. We thought, “Oh he’s cute” so we clicked on it and he was AMAZING. I subscribed and kept up with his videos from that day on. A little over a year later in 2009 he was doing radio appearances and I heard on the radio, “Justin Bieber will be here July 20th”. I thought for a while of who Justin Bieber was and then it hit me, “Oh he’s the kid that was singing With You.” I called my friend and asked if she wanted to go to the radio station and try to meet him. A week before we were supposed to go to the radio station, Justin released his single One Time. We listened to the song over and over again and when July 20th came we woke up at 5AM to drive an hour and a half to meet him. Of course we got lost of the way and it took much longer than expected but we finally arrived there at around 6:30 AM. We stood outside the glass window just staring in at Justin, watching him do the interview and sing One Time for us. At about 8 AM, he finally came out to greet the fans that were outside. There was only about 20 people there so for him to greet the fans definitely wasn’t a problem. It became my turn in line, he signed this paper that the people gave us for him to sign and I took  a picture with him. Also I asked for a hug. Since I was the last one in line, I asked him to sign my ipod and he said “sure” so he did so. I said bye and left. July 20th 2009 is by far the best day of my life. -@itsanniebabyy See the original post here: In 2008, my friend and I were on Youtube just looking around at…
