Shia LaBeouf Calls Marilyn Manson Video ‘A Cool Diversion’

Unlikely duo will celebrate ‘Born Villain’ short film with book signing and screening Thursday in L.A. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Marilyn Manson, Narcissister and Shia LaBeouf attend the “Born Villain” screening in Los Angeles on August 29 Photo: Christopher Polk/Getty Images File this story under the most surprising of pairings: “Transformers” superstar Shia LaBeouf and Marilyn Manson have teamed up for Manson’s new music video, “Born Villain.” So how did these two artists come together? Well, they met at a Kills concert, where LaBeouf, a longtime Manson fan, casually approached the “Beautiful People” singer and struck up a conversation that sparked a genuine friendship. “Marilyn Manson to me is an indelible figure,” LaBeouf told MTV New, speaking exclusively about the collaboration for the first time. “He’s a big deal to me, and in my childhood, I don’t know of a scarier figure in art. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued.” LaBeouf told Manson that he would love to direct his next video and showed him his previous work, Cage’s “Maniac” clip , as proof that he knows what he’s doing behind the camera. “I played ‘Maniac’ for [Manson], and he freaked the f— out,” LaBeouf recalled. “Manson goes crazy. Manson’s like, ‘I want you to do my video.’ ” The two then began prep work on “Born Villain,” which draws heavily from very intense, graphic imagery, specifically a famous French surrealist short film, Shakespeare and theology. “The song has all these references to ‘Macbeth’ and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make Manson’s ‘Un Chien Andalou’ macabre ‘Macbeth’ — that’s sort of what that became.” To celebrate the LaBeouf-directed video, which is much more short film than standard clip, LaBeouf and Manson will be appearing together at a one-time-only book signing and screening Thursday at Hennessey + Ingalls bookstore in Los Angeles from 8 to 10 p.m. The 18-and-up event is private and limited to 150 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to receive tickets, those who wish to attend must purchase the limited-edition “Born Villain” photo book at the Hennessey + Ingalls website , which also comes with a copy of the short film. Unsurprisingly, the imagery in the video is very graphic and very adult. Those who only know LaBeouf from his clean-cut film roles will likely be shocked by this directorial effort, but LaBeouf isn’t worried about those reactions. “This, for me, this is a really cool diversion for me when I’m not making a movie,” LaBeouf explained. “It gives me an opportunity to work with musicians I admire who I would otherwise never get to work with in any other capacity. I really have a fun time doing it. It allows me to be creative in another art form and work with heroes. “I also think there are fans of mine who aren’t fans of Manson’s and vice versa; that’s why I think our collaboration is interesting. I don’t really see it on paper,” he continued. “I don’t see fans of mine who went to see ‘Holes’ when they were 12 loving this. I don’t think my audience is the only thing I should exercise my artistic muscle for. I don’t necessarily always do things for the audience; this is one of those. “I love Marilyn,” LaBeouf said. “Manson is like a brother to me now. He’s a real sweet dude, a real close friend.” Related Artists Marilyn Manson

Red Hot Chili Peppers Say Josh Klinghoffer Was ‘The Only Choice’

After departure of John Frusciante, RHCP’s new guitarist contributed in spades to brand-new, boundary-pushing I’m With You. By James Montgomery Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers Photo: MTV News Over the course of their 28 years, change has been a near constant for the Red Hot Chili Peppers … particularly when it comes to the man charged with playing guitar. Beginning with Jack Sherman, the Peppers have run through a string of ax men, including Hillel Slovak (who tragically died of a heroin overdose in 1988), Arik Marshall, Dave Navarro and, of course, John Frusciante, who not only played with the band the longest, but was famously responsible — in some form or another — for their biggest hits and best albums. As you probably know by now, Frusciante continued the transitional trend when he left the Peppers during the hiatus that preceded their brand-new I’m With You album … leaving a rather sizable hole in the band’s lineup, and an even larger pair of shoes to fill. Luckily, the band didn’t have to look far to find his replacement: 31-year-old Josh Klinghoffer, who was not only a friend of Frusciante but had toured with the Chili Peppers towards the end of their Stadium Arcadium trek. And no, they didn’t even think about going with anyone else. “He was the only choice, and a lot of it had to do with the fact that he was our friend, and it’s just rare that you have someone who’s right there and completely overqualified for the job. I mean, that combination doesn’t happen every day, so to ignore it would have been stupid,” RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis told MTV News. “And it felt really good to call your friend and ask if they wanted to play music, as opposed to going to a stranger and asking them that.” So Klinghoffer stepped in and almost immediately found himself in the studio, as the Peppers began work on I’m With You. And if he was intimidated, well, the soft-spoken guitarist certainly wasn’t about to let his new bandmates know about it. “I just tried to stay in the moment, remain present,” he said, smiling slightly. “I mean, I’ve known them for a long time, and knowing how they work and just how much they care about what they do … The band, from its inception, has always been about four people getting into a room and making music together. And that’s whether I brought in a chord progression or Flea did, or John in the past, or anyone before that, it was the same. We were doing it together.” Of course, Kiedis was more effusive with his praise, saying that Klinghoffer not only fit in with the band but breathed new life into it. And it was because of him that I’m With You pushes the Peppers’ sound further than it’s ever gone before. “We had a load of faith in Josh coming into this band, and it was kind of understood that we are a band of equals when it comes to writing and contributing. The more the merrier,” Kiedis said. “There’s something that happens during that process of just playing for the sake of playing, for communicating, for letting your abilities mingle with those of the guy next to you. “Both Josh and Flea would come in with ideas, homework, that they had done, and since Flea had been to school to learn piano and theory, he was coming in more frequently with piano chords instead of bass lines,” he continued. “Josh kind of understands it without school, and Flea understands it, so their conversations were quite beautiful, and it sounded like Thelonious Monk talking to Coltrane or something. I mean that, honestly.” Related Videos Red Hot Chili Peppers: Don’t Call It A ‘Comeback’ Related Artists Red Hot Chili Peppers

On April 8th me and my friend went to the Justin Bieber concert…

On April 8th me and my friend went to the Justin Bieber concert in Zurich, Switzerland . We got there at 2pm and still had 6 hours left until the concert would start. We went there early because we wanted to try our luck and see if we could meet Justin or someone of his crew. I never had luck so I didn’t thought it would work. We walked around to check how many people were already there and can I say it was a lot! At this point we didn’t think we would get to meet anyone but it turned out different. As we walked around we came to a gate where only like seven people were standing. It was Teddy (you may know him, he’s the boy who always get to meet Justin) and his friends. My friend and I thought it was a great place since all the tour busses were behind us and we could see the backstage area. Only a barrier separated us from the backstage area. A lot of securities were standing there, which pisses me a little bit off but whatever. We could look over to the other side and saw all the girls laying there. There was a big wall so no one could climb over it, but there was a little space under the wall where you could see everything. Suddenly all the girls started to scream. We quickly looked over and saw DJ Tay James walking there with his camera in his hands. It didn’t take long till the girls screamed again and Ryan Good was walking around. My friends and I screamed his name and he first waved at us and then walked over when suddenly all the girls behind him were also screaming his name so he turned around and walked to them. I was really mad , cause I love Ryan Good and wanted to take a picture with him. After Ryan Good walked also in the arena nobody of the crew was outside anymore. I decided to dm Aja, Justins back-up dancer. I really loved him and thought it was a good idea that he should meet us at Gate C. Since nothing happened at Gate C for awhile, my friends and I decided to walk around and see if anything happens. The whole backstage area was surrounded by the wall. I saw that at the place we were standing was also this little space under the wall where you could see anything, so I laid down on the street and looked under it.  We waited and waited and waited and waited and waited but nothing happened, when we suddenly saw Dan Kanter walking in our direction. I was starstruck cause that was the first time I saw him that close. We all waved at him and screamed and he waved at us. Then we started to sing the Dan Kanter song and he waved at us again and also winked at us . Then he walked in one of the tourbusses and then we knew it was his tourbus. We also got to know that the bus beside Dans was JUSTIN’S TOURBUS. The fact that I was laying in front of his tourbus was already one of the best moments in my life . When Dan went in his tour bus we waited again. I checked my mentions on Twitter and saw that Aja still didn’t tweeted me something. I checked my direct messages and saw that he dm’ed me saying that he couldn’t go out cause there were so many fans. I then dm’ed him again saying that we are at Justin and Dans tourbus and there are only us four, no other people. I sent the message and continued looking under the wall with my friends when suddenly Justin’s dancer Nick Demoura showed up. I was surprised that nobody noticed him. My friends and I also called his name and at first he looked OVER the wall cause he didn’t saw the space under it. I had to laugh and then said ‘no we’re down here’. He looked down and had this funny expression in his face cause he only saw our heads popping out under a wall. We then chatted a while with him and asked him how he’s doing and that my other friend was at his dance class he was giving the day before in Switzerland and he asked her if she had fun and stuff like that. After talking with him we asked him if we could get an picture with him, but he understood it wrong and wanted to take an picture of us with his camera. We told him then that we wanted a picture WITH him. He told us that he couldn’t do one cause we were behind a wall. But then all of sudden Justin’s tour manager walked to us and also talked with us a little bit. He then told Nick to lay down to us and he would take the picture. Nick did what he was told and his tour manager took the picture of us. We then thanked them a hundred times and said goodbye. Nick also told us that we should enjoy the show and we told him that we will. By now I was already the happiest girl ever. But I also wanted to meet Aja so I checked my direct messages again and saw that Aja had messaged me again asking us if we were AT the tour busses. I messaged him back saying well not AT the tourbusses but behind a wall. My friend and I waited again. Then he came out. I will never forget the feeling, he was so skinny but smelled so good. The hug was really tight. I then asked him if he remembered me and he was like ‘sure I skyped with you the other day’ and I was like totally starstruck that he still remembered me. We took a picture and chatted with him for a while. When my friend and I got in line , we waited 2 hours to finally get in. We also saw Nick sometimes again and waved at him, I think he was annoyed but whatever. When we finally got in we quickly went to our seats and they were amazing. We could see the whole stage and everything was just perfect. Then finally Justin came on, I was so starstruck to see him in person. He’s so hot! It was now time for Justin to perform ‘Favorite Girl’, and at this point I knew that Allison always picks the OLLG. She and an random man were just coming out of the curtains and I ran up to them and waved at her, pointing at me, meaning to pick me as the OLLG. She saw me and just waved back. I know you shouldn’t beg to be the OLLG and I’m not a type of those people but I thought this would be my first and last chance to be the OLLG. I told my friend that I needed to ask her. I ran up to the floor next to us and saw the man and her walking in my direction. When I was only a few inches away from her I smiled at her and was like ‘hi’. She smiled back at me and said hey too. I then asked her if I could take a picture with her. She agreed and the man took the picture of us. I whispered in her ear , asking her if she’s still looking for the OLLG. She just smiled at me and I told her that I drove five hours to see Justin in concert. She then told me that she wasn’t the person who’s picking out the OLLG. Seriously? It’s not like I didn’t saw you in the movie picking out his OLLG. I said okay, thanked her and went back to my place. When I looked back I saw that Allison was coming in MY direction and looking around. I just stood there like a fool looking at them both when the man suddenly pointed at me. My heart was pounding million times faster by now and I was just so nervous. Then Allison turned around and looked at me from head to toe and shook her head. I was so mad but then the man gave her a ‘c’mon’ look and pointed at me again, but she shook her head again. She then picked a blond girl only an inch away from me. I was so upset that she didn’t picked me, but when I saw the expression the girl had on her face when they asked her, I felt kinda happy for her. When I got back to my place I enjoyed the rest of the concert , and was totally happy that I met so many people from his crew. At the end of the show Ryan Good and Scooter joined the crowd and danced with us to ‘Baby’. My friend and I decided to go to Gate C after the show since Justins bus had to come out there. By now a lot of people, mostly girls were standing there. After an hour we suddenly heard screams from the other side. I was so nervous when my friend and I suddenly saw Justin walking in our direction with his YMCMB shirt and his cap. When he got at Gate C there was a barrier where he couldn’t cross so he stood there with Kenny just waving at us and smiling. His smile is the most adorable smile I’ve ever seen . He only stayed there for like a few minutes and then lefted. He got in his tourbus and they drove out of Gate C when he waved at us again. When he was gone. I thought about how amazing this was , since we stood there the whole afternoon and no one showed up and now Justin Bieber was standing there, where we were standing. And he also touched the barrier we already touched. Amazing.  -@JustinBsAngel Read this article: On April 8th me and my friend went to the Justin Bieber concert…

A Rose By Any Other Name: What Exactly Makes a Woman a “Garden Tool”

Want a quick way to really touch a woman’s nerve and make her see red? Tell her that her shoes look cheap and call her a “hoe”. At least that’s what shows like Bad Girls Club and Basketball Wives would lead you to believe when these terms are often thrown around as much as martinis. Search any message board for tags associated with Rihanna and Kim Kardashian and I’ll give you my first-born if you come across the word “hoe” less than five times. It really started to make me think, what’s in a name? Why do women feel like their primary weapon of choice in a girl fight is to scorn your enemy’s sexual behavior and fashion choices? And while we’re on the subject, what exactly makes a woman a “hoe”? One of the most important lessons I’ve learned as a writer is that words can be as powerful or as weak as you make them. For example, while women of past generations would be offended by being referred to as a “b*tch” or the god-forbidden N-word, with time many have come to accept these words as terms of endearment and defend the casual use of words like these by saying that when the people who these terms were initially meant to offend then take those words and manipulate their definitions, the words are then stripped of their power. Nonetheless, there are people who stand on both sides of the debate and will most likely never come to a compromise. To be honest, I am not even sure which side I stand on, but as a writer I’m uncomfortable with the idea of making language ineffective and stripping words of their power. Wiz Khalifa Wants To ‘Crush’ His VMA Best New Artist Competition

‘These are all people who have their own movements,’ the ‘Black and Yellow’ MC says of fellow nominees. By Rob Markman Wiz Khalifa Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Let’s be clear, while Wiz Khalifa has respect for his fellow Best New Artist nominees, he fully excepts to beat out the competition on Sunday night at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards . “I’m trying to crush everybody,” the Rolling Papers MC told MTV News from the red carpet of the BMI Urban Awards in Los Angeles on Friday. “No disrespect, just crush them and do what I do.” Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” video is up against tourmate Big Sean’s “My Last,” Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci,” Tyler, the Creator’s “Yonkers” and indie-pop band Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” “I think it’s really good competition, and it’s just a good sign of the new wave of how an artist can come up and get recognition these days,” Khalifa told MTV News in July when he first learned of the nomination. “Big Sean, I know his situation, how he came from nothing. Kreayshawn, she built her buzz similar with the Internet, and Tyler as well. These are all people who have their own movements.” Aside from his nomination, Wiz is just looking forward to some memorable moments at the VMAs. “I expect some real big performances, I expect some shockers, man. Some big things, people usually pull out all the stops at the VMAs,” he said. “That’s a big deal so I expect some entertainment.” Voting for the Best New Artist continues through the show, which airs live on Sunday (August 28) at 9 p.m. ET. Minka Kelly New Man?

“We have seen Minka and Ramon talking in his trailer way after hours, and often late into the night,” a source tells People of Kelly and Charlie#39;s Angels actor Ramon Rodriguez “They have been together long after they need to be for the show.” Seemingly, it would be very difficult to move on from Derek Jeter. But has Minka Kelly already done so? It was announced this week that the shortstop and the actress have ended their three-year relationship and, already, rumors are surfacing that Kel

Pitbull: Lindsay Lohan’s VMA Tickets Are At Will Call

‘I’m actually surprised and, in an ironic way, kind of honored,’ Pit says of actress suing him over ‘Give Me Everything.’ By James Montgomery, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Pitbull Photo: MTV News Pitbull made headlines when he invited Lindsay Lohan — currently suing him over the lyrics to his hit “Give Me Everything” — to Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards , where Pit will be performing the song with Ne-Yo and Nayer. “We’ll be performing at the VMAs, and as a matter of fact, I’d like to send out an invitation to Lindsay Lohan,” he said in a statement on his Planet Pit website . “Hopefully, she can come with me to the VMAs, and we can figure this out.” Of course, with the big show just around the corner, Lohan has yet to publicly RSVP, so when MTV News caught up with Pit during rehearsals for the VMAs, we had to ask if he’d heard from the actress. Lohan specifically took issue with the line “Got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan,” which Pit actually saw as a positive lyric. “As far as the whole Lindsay Lohan situation, it’s real simple: I’m actually surprised and, in an ironic way, kind of honored. The record, if you listen to it from beginning to end, [is a] very positive record. I start off even talking about my own life,” he said. “So in no way, shape or form am I here to defame, degrade or hurt anybody. It was my way of showing love or helping out, I would think. “But either [way], I said, ‘You know what? Performing it at the VMAs, [I] would like to invite her out,” he continued. “And anybody who knows my reputation [knows I] don’t do no publicity stunts. I’m not really about none of that. … So I said it, I meant it, and if she takes it, great. If she doesn’t, cool. But she will have her tickets at will call.” Pitbull didn’t stop there: If (or when) Lohan picks up her tickets, he hopes she’ll join him onstage for his performance of “Everything.” Maybe she could even rap the offending line. “That would be great, to be honest with you,” he laughed. “That might just throw Lindsay Lohan through the roof. People would love her if she did that! But then again, that’s just my two cents on her PR team and what they should be doing.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Lady Gaga VMA Wish List: Balloons, Bones And More

Little Monsters make predictions (and suggestions) for Gaga’s fashion and opening performance come Sunday. Some fans predict that her 2011 performance will be an extension of 2009’s blood-soaked “Paparazzi” number . One of Gaga’s Twitter followers wrote, “I reckon it’s gonna be quite eery + scary, and full of blood!” Many thought it would mimic her VMA promos , which had a jazzy style and Gaga playing piano.
