The latest issue of Oprah’s O magazine features two covers: one of the host taping her first show in 1986, and the other, more recent, boasting a big “Thank You!” headline. Inside, she talks about the beginning stages of the legendary show and what it’s legacy will be. On the beginning: “The first few years when the staff was still less than 12 people, I used to hang out with them because we were doing live shows, and we’d be done by 10 a.m. We had four people in four chairs, and that was it. Those were the days where I’d be the one taking the lunch order. I would walk around asking, ‘Okay, is it gonna be Taco Bell today, or are we doing Wendy’s?’ And then we’d go out and party at night.” On the end: “I genuinely feel appreciated and loved by this audience that has grown up with me. Which, for me, is a huge, huge, huge accomplishment. Because I grew up feeling the opposite of that. Feeling a void, as a little girl, feeling that really nobody loved me. So to be surrounded by this, that is what I’m going to feel. And when you see the tears on the last show, that’s what those tears will be about. Those tears will not be about sadness.” On what she’s taking with her when she goes: “The one thing I’ll take is the statue of Sojourner Truth that Jamie Foxx gave me for my birthday last year…Even in my youth, she was the historical figure I most identified with. Because even though she was born a slave, she was able to speak. She could communicate with people from all different backgrounds. She could speak to the most disenfranchised groups, and she could also speak to Congress. She was invited to the White House by Lincoln. Jamie didn’t know that I’d been reciting her “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech my whole life, or that when I die, I want to go out like a comet in the sky, which is something she said about her own life. But he gave me that statue, and it will come with me when I go.” Oprah To Charge $1 Million For Commercial On Show Finale Oprah’s Secret Diaries Reveal She Wanted “To Die” Over Relationship
All candidates who are contesting in the General Election are not allowed to campaign on Cooling-off Day, a day before Polling Day. Ms Tin Pei Ling said on Thursday May 5, her Facebook page carried a “clarification” on reports that a MacPherson resident had been refused help for her child#39;s tuition fees. The People#39;s Action Party (PAP) candidate for Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Tin Pei Ling said she had not posted anything on her Facebook page on Cooling-off Day.
I hate Maxim. I mean if you think about it, I should try to be friends with them and sell my site to them, so I can retire, and travel the world with a flipcam making amateur porn videos of dumb sluts for the internet for at least a month, because that’s all this site is worth… But instead, I write hateful letters to the Vice President, and CEO telling them how useless they are, how shitty their photoshoots are, and to embrace the fact that it’s not 1994 and the world doesn’t need them…. Leading to them hating me and sending me lawyers letters everytime I post pictures of their bottom feeding celebrity photoshoots, that have declined and become more insignificant every year…. Because I’m not in a position to take pics of these bitches in my basement apartment, so I rely on other people to do it for me… And the funny thing in all this is that MAXIM featured me in an article years ago….gave me a photoshoot like I was Cameron Diaz and shit….giving me more reason to be nice to them… But I just feel when you’re done, you’re done and sometimes you need a friend to tell you… That doesn’t mean I don’t like looking at Cameron Diaz’s old photoshopped legs….She’s spectacular…that’s just to say, I’d rather see it in any other venue but in MAXIM… To See The Rest of the Pictures Follow THis Link

Along with unreleased Born This Way track, Gaga gives Little Monsters an inside look at the Monster Ball. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Marco Prosch/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s first-ever HBO special is nearly 120 minutes of Gaga onstage and giving fans unprecedented behind-the-scenes access. A mixture of concert footage in color and backstage shots in black-and-white, HBO’s “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden” is a love letter to her hometown, fans and her roots and also puts viewers in the front row at one of her shows. The special opens with Gaga greeting her friends on the Lower East Side in Manhattan and buying a coffee at a local deli decked out in a biker jacket, bodysuit and heels. She struts through the neighborhood and into an SUV. She pulls up to Madison Square Garden. From the car, she greets her fans. “You know how many times I came to this arena? And now they’re opening up these gates for us,” she marvels to her team. Now viewers are backstage as she puts on makeup and confesses , “I start to think about all the people that have tried to stop me, and I get this super-intense fury. … I just sometimes feel like a loser still.” The biggest reveal in the special is watching Gaga backstage singing a few lines of her still-unreleased Born This Way track “Marry the Night.” It happens fast, but Little Monsters are sure to eat up footage of her singing the track to herself. “I’m gonna marry the night/ I won’t give up on my life/ I’m a warrior queen/ Live passionately tonight,” she sings to herself, waiting for her show to begin. This moment marries her pre-show life with her stage life. And just like that, fans are now at the Monster Ball at Madison Square Garden . The concert footage was shot earlier this year during two nights at MSG. The Monster Ball itself has been edited with a constant stream of Gaga-isms about her fans, adversity and individuality, along with quick frenzied backstage shots, song changes (old and new) and, of course, costume changes (many of which are documented in those backstage moments). It gives anyone who hasn’t been there in person a good idea of what the show is all about. The set list includes: “Just Dance,” “You and I,” “Born This Way,” “Alejandro” and many other Gaga favorites that are highlighted by Gaga’s ferocious presence and over-the-top staging. After the concert wraps, fans are once again backstage as Gaga, her team and her family celebrate the show. In a particularly touching moment, she hugs her dad. Gaga is seen leaving MSG in a feathered jacket as the special ends. During the credits, fans are treated to one last treat: Gaga practices “BTW” with her backup singers a cappella. ‘I connect with it very, very personally because my mother was a fireman,’ he says of raising money for volunteer fire, EMS and rescue services. By Matt Elias Cee Lo Green Photo: MTV News It’s not too often that a Grammy-winning song gets completely overhauled for a national campaign, but Cee Lo Green has done just that with “Forget You” — and it’s all for a good cause. The R&B crooner teamed up with Duracell’s “Power of Those Who Protect Us” program to benefit the National Volunteer Fire Council, a nonprofit group representing the interests of volunteer fire, EMS and rescue services. The new tune, renamed “Thank You,” is available for free download via Duracell’s Facebook page . Not only is Cee Lo hoping to raise awareness for America’s volunteer firefighters, but it’s a cause that hits close to home. “It’s a very noble cause, and I connect with it very, very personally because my mother was a fireman as well — one of the first black female firemen in Atlanta, Georgia, so quite a historic accomplishment,” Green said. Of course The Lady Killer was tasked with cleaning up his decidedly dirty lyrics from the original song for this tribute. The new chorus begins: “For a lifetime of service in the name of love, we wanna thank you/ I could say it a thousand times and it wouldn’t be enough, we wanna thank you for everything you do.” Green, who is currently a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” said this campaign capitalizes on the current success of “Forget You.” “It’s definitely at the height of a popularity, you know, just kind of unparalleled, and so it’s a convenient means of kind of making use of it and using that same spotlight to acknowledge and expose what a great humanitarian cause this is,” he told MTV News. “For so many people, citizens to volunteer themselves — so this is voluntary action. It’s not by force, it’s not by draft. This is heart and soul, and we appreciate that.” What do you think of Cee Lo’s “Thank You”? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Cee Lo Green
Lusk hopes to audition for Broadway and films, as well as make an album. By Gil Kaufman Jacob Lusk Photo: Michael Becker / FOX Jacob Lusk was pretty sure his “American Idol” journey was going to end Thursday night, and he was OK with that. But what kind of stung were the harsh comments made by mentor Jimmy Iovine in a taped package that ran before Jacob got his news, in which the Interscope Geffen A&M boss said Lusk appeared to lose his confidence and said the singer’s voice “closed down.” “I wouldn’t call it soul-destroying. It definitely hurts a lot to have someone who is supposed to be mentoring you and it feels like every time you turn around, [he’s] tearing you down,” Lusk said of Iovine’s cutting comments. “But what you have to remember is that you’re not doing it for him, you’re doing it for the people out there in America. They’re the people who are voting. It definitely hurts, it’s definitely hard to have someone beat you over the head with a baseball bat and then say, ‘OK, now go ahead and sing for your life.’ ” If there is any reason he was sent home, he said, it was because he wasn’t in his gospel/R&B element on Wednesday night and simply didn’t have a great performance. After his elimination, though, Lusk went out on a high note, giving one of his loosest, most engaging performances of the season with “A House Is Not a Home.” But in a call with reporters Friday (May 6), he talked about his performance after that performance, where he really took the audience to church and let loose. “I made a joke months ago [to ‘Idol’ bandleader Ray Chew]. I said, ‘Ray, if I ever got off this show, if I ever win, whatever happens, we’re going to church.’ ” But when he finished singing, he didn’t want to end on a sad, tearful note (though he did cry a bit), so he did what he always does: He rejoiced and celebrated making it to the #5 position surrounded by his family, producer Nigel Lythgoe and “Idol” stage manager Debbie Williams. When asked about Iovine saying the pressure seemed to be getting to him, Lusk disagreed with the assessment. “I wouldn’t say that the pressure was getting to me. I was getting a little tired and I was just really trying to do different things that I thought that he would like and that America just wanted to see different things,” he explained. “But at the end of the day, I definitely went out and I said, ‘I’m going to give them my all,’ and that’s what I did.” One of the signature moments Lusk was asked to clarify was when he seemed to call out the voting public before singing Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.” It appeared at the time that he was making some sort of political or personal statement with this warning: “If I end up in the bottom three, it won’t be because I sang the song bad. It won’t be because I sang the song wrong. It’ll be because everybody in America wasn’t ready to look at themselves in the mirror.” Lusk said Friday that he didn’t mean anything personal by it at all and lamented that it was all a big misunderstanding. “It had nothing to do with me and my vocal performance. I’m not the greatest singer in the world; at least I don’t feel that I am,” he said, explaining that he was referring to his song selection, which he’d changed from the more sensual Marvin Gaye tune “Let’s Get It On,” and how it was inspired by the recent Japanese earthquake. “For me, it was about us all taking an internal glance. … It had nothing to do with my vocal performance. It had nothing to do with people voting for me. It wasn’t about that. It was about me wanting people to look at ourselves and look at what we can do to change the world. … I was starting with me that night and saying that I was going to make a change to help change the world.” Now that the pressure is off and he can start thinking about the rest of his career, Lusk said he’s looking forward to auditioning for Broadway shows and films and working on a debut album that will eschew the bubblegum-pop sensibility of the day and get back to some classic soulful R&B like that of his inspirations, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston and Patti LaBelle. “I’ve heard some things through the grapevine, and I think I’m gonna be fine,” Lusk said when asked if, like another recently eliminated singer, Stefano Langone , he’s gotten calls from major artists eager to work with him. “There’s a world out there who is desirous of what I have to offer, and it’s just about me really going out there and giving my heart and soul. Someone out there is gonna want it, and I’m excited just to give that.” Don’t miss “Idol Party Live” every Thursday at noon on MTV.com for analysis, celebrity guests and even some karaoke — get in the conversation by tweeting with the hashtag #idolparty! I can definitely say I am very lucky to have had the chance to meet Justin Bieber on 2 different occasions. The first time I met him was on August 4th of 2010 in Orlando, Florida. For my 14th birthday, my parents got my friend Kylee and I a hotel room at the Hyatt Grand Cypress because we stayed the night in Orlando and we also got tickets to Justin’s concert. My cousin is in the entertainment industry and works with different celebrities so he got us the Meet & Greets. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we were both freaking out telling all of the workers how we were going to meet Justin Bieber. One of the workers at the front desk even prank called me telling me it was Justin! We were so anxious and decided to get ready a few hours before the concert only there was a problem. The hotel room wasn’t ready because the people staying in our room didn’t check out yet! Kylee and I had to get ready in the hotel bathroom! As soon as we were done getting ready, we headed over to the Amway Arena because the Meet & Greet started at 5:00 and we had to pick up our M&G bracelets at 4:30. Finally, after waiting for what seemed to be hours, we walked into the Arena and saw huge curtains where we were going to meet Justin. We were waiting and waiting, we even met 2 other nice girls in line. Suddenly we heard a few people gasp behind us and I saw someone out of the corner of my eye. I didn’t think much of it but it was JUSTIN BIEBER on his segway a few feet away from me!!! He zoomed past us and headed for the curtains! My sudden reaction was to slap Kylee as hard as I could which I did haha. A few minutes later, Kylee and I were next in line. I took a deep breath as I saw KENNY look at me. He told me, “Whatever you do don’t pass out.” and then he smiled. Then another security guard opened up the curtains as I saw Justin Bieber stand right in front of me. He took of his hat, shook his beautiful hair and put his hat back on as he waved us in. My friend Kylee actually walked in first because she claimed that as soon as I saw Justin, I froze and stood in the same spot for a couple of seconds. Then I walked over to him and he put his arms around me. He was so soft and he smelled like mint! Then I stood right next to him with our arms around eachother, on his right when 2 other girls walked in behind us and got in the picture. Kylee was on his left. As soon as we got our picture taken, I turned over to him and handed him a bracelet that I made for him. He looked at me, smiled, and said thank you very much. He put his arm out for me to tie it on him only it dropped! We both hesitated to pick it up but he ended up getting it and I said, “Nice meeting you, I hope you liked your bracelet!” He said, “Nice meeting you too. I love it.” I was hoping he would wear it during the concert. As Kylee and I were walking out of the curtains, I turned around so I could take my final look at him up close and personal. Kenny was tying my bracelet onto Justin’s wrist! I was in shock and as soon as I walked out, I fell to the floor crying. After the amazing show, Kylee and I rushed over to Justin’s tour bus and saw RYAN GOOD who autographed my hand! He was extremely nice. I can for sure say that August 4th of 2010 was one of the BEST days of my life! Never Say Never. -@ iitshaley Read the original here: I can definitely say I am very lucky to have had the chance to…
