American Idol eliminated two contestants this week, first sending Jermaine Jones home last night for lying about his criminal record and then giving another finalist the axe tonight for… well, being worse than the other 10 singers. So, who will NOT be going on tour this summer? Following performances by Daughtry and Demi Lovato (below), the final three came down to Shannon Magrane, Erika Van Pelt and Elise Testone, with the fewest number of votes going to… Shannon Magrane. The 16-year-old went with Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” in an attempt to earn the judges’ save, but Randy Jackson told her it was not meant to be: “Unfortunately, we’re not going to use it tonight, Shannon. Thank you.” What did you think of these results? Did Shannon deserve to go home?

Who does the most accomplished canine performer in Hollywood have to lick to get some hardware around here? “He’s the toast of this year’s award season, now Uggie, the Jack Russell star of this year’s Academy Award-winning silent film The Artist , will walk the red carpet and serve as a presenter at the only major award show where animals take center stage – The Humane Society of the United States’ 26th Genesis Awards. ‘The Genesis Awards are about honoring the animal protection message, not the performance, but if we had an award for a dog who’s become a poster animal for people not giving up on their unruly companion animals, we’d give it to Uggie… now, there’s a thought!’, says Beverly Kaskey, senior director and executive producer of the annual Genesis Awards.” [ Genesis Awards ]
‘That would work for me,’ Rosado jokes to MTV News about his awards-filled, post-‘Idol’ plans. By James Montgomery Jeremy Rosado Photo: MTV News Jeremy Rosado wasn’t exactly surprised to hear his name called during last week’s “American Idol” elimination show — telling USA Today he had a “gut feeling” that his time was up — but he was rather shocked to hear “Idol” mentor Jimmy Iovine’s criticisms of his performance … mostly because he didn’t think they were warranted. “I didn’t think that it was as bad as a couple of them were saying; but, you know, Jimmy’s a great guy, and he was hoping for the best … unfortunately I guess to him it didn’t turn out the way he wanted,” Rosado told MTV News. “But, I’m grateful, and I’m grateful to [“Idol” judges] Randy [Jackson] and Steven [Tyler] as well. No matter what happened, there were 112,000 people that auditioned for the show, and praise God, they chose me to be in their top 13, you know? I couldn’t be more grateful.” Of course, Rosado is most grateful to “Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez, who not only seemed to be his biggest supporter on the show, but coined his now ubiquitous nickname: Jer-Bear. And then, after he had been eliminated, well, she helped change his mood considerably. “Jer-Bear, yeah, I think I’m going to try and get it copyrighted or something,” he laughed. “Jennifer gave me a kiss on my check twice, and I got eliminated that day, but she made me feel a little bit better … a lot bit better. And to think someone like her or [last week’s mentor] Mary J. Blige [could] fall in love with my voice, and with me as a person? That doesn’t happen every day, so I’m forever grateful.” And though he’ll be the first to admit that his nerves got the better of him last week — “Not being voted into the top 13 definitely played with my head a lot,” he said — he’s already realizing the benefits that being showcased on “Idol” are pretty great … and he’s looking to take full advantage of them. “I love acting, and singing is definitely my #1 passion; I’m definitely going to continue to sing,” he said. “And hopefully, this is the huge dream, I’m just going to lay it out for you: I’m going to be on a TV show, I’m going to be in a couple movies, I’m going to win an Oscar — this is what I want — I want to win 17 Grammys and, I think that’s good. … That would work for me.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. With the bar set very high by Jessica Sanchez and her rendition of ” I Will Always Love You ” on American Idol last night, Erika Van Pelt couldn’t have expected to clear it. But did she come close to matching it? Yes, if you base your opinion on the judges. Van Pelt covered Whitney’s “I Believe in You and Me” for her audition and was told be Jennifer Lopez that gave the panelists “goosies” before even singing a note. Randy chimed in with props for the contestant’s “unbelievable tone,” while Steven added that she simply has a “beautiful fantastic voice.” Watch now and see if you feel the same way: Erika Van Pelt – “I Believe in You and Me”
Allow us to make the following request, American Idol producers: If Heejun Han does not survive this week’s cut, can you bring him back as Ryan Seacrest’s co-host? Please? Pretty please? The season 11 hopeful cracked us up last night before singing a single note, as he brought Mary J. Blige and Jimmy Iovine an autographed picture of himself. He then went on to belt out a nearly flawless version of “All is Fair.” A couple notes got away from Han near the end, however, which led Randy to comment about the audition merely being “really good” instead of “perfect.” Like us, however, J. Lo loves this finalist so much that she couldn’t bring herself to criticize him. Watch the performance now and judge for yourself: Heejun Han – “All Is Fair”
MTV Unplugged – A Live Album, due April 9, captures every intimate moment of band’s stripped-back set. By James Montgomery Florence Welch Photo: Harry Herd/ WireImage Back in December, Florence and the Machine stripped down for a taping of MTV’s venerable “Unplugged” series. And not surprisingly, this presented a rather unique set of difficulties for the usually voluminous band — though not the kind you’d expect. “It’s such a huge thing, and it was so intimate, and I really enjoy doing things stripped back and having the strings and the choir, it was really wonderful,” Florence Welch told MTV News. “But, what to say in between? I got so bashful. I was so grateful to be there, and I was trying to express that, and it just went into this weird, stilted speech. … It ended up with me trying to talk but not saying any words. … Singing is fine; talking, not so much.” Then again, we suspect Welch is just being modest, because April 9, Florence and the Machine will release MTV Unplugged – A Live Album, which captures every intimate moment of their performance (“I genuinely hope they don’t include my talking,” Welch admitted, laughing), including stirring takes on their hits “Dog Days Are Over,” “Shake It Out” and “Cosmic Love,” plus a pair of covers: “Try a Little Tenderness” and “Jackson” (with guest vocals by Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme). Judging from the list of songs, you’d think the “Unplugged” taping was well-rehearsed. But as Welch explained, nothing could be further from the truth. “We kind of winged it. I felt really comfortable: I’m kind of in my element in that environment, when you’re able to really play ,” she said. “The thing I don’t enjoy about TV performances is that I have to sing live to a backing track, because most times they can’t afford to mic up the whole band, so you have to sing to something that’s just going to keep going, with or without you. And performing in a stripped-back sense, with a band that’s playing around you? It’s so organic, and there’s so much freedom to it.” Of course, her “Unplugged” performance also earned rave reviews from one very prominent guest: Kanye West, who was front and center for the taping, and made his approval known from the get-go. “He was dancing and really going for it in the front row; it was amazing,” Welch said. “At award shows, you can’t really see anyone, because there’s lights, and they’re kind of far away, but for this, it was just like Kanye was just there. And I covered ‘Try a Little Tenderness,’ and he’d just sampled that for the Watch the Throne album, so I was like, ‘Um, Hi … you kind of got there before me, but I’m going to do this now, and it’s kind of for you …’ He was smiling the whole way through, and I think he’s a total genius, so to have him there was really incredible.” Related Artists Florence + the Machine Kanye West
