Bret Michaels Sues Tonys Over 2009 Onstage Injury

Lawsuit cites the incident as cause of Poison frontman’s near-fatal brain hemorrhage last year. By James Dinh Bret Michaels Photo: Brian Ach/WireImage Bret Michaels is suing Tony Award Productions and CBS for his stage mishap at the 2009 Tony Awards , where the rock singer slammed his head against a stage prop that descended from the ceiling. TMZ reports that the lawsuit, which was filed Friday (March 25), has Michaels alleging that he was not properly instructed on how to exit the stage following his “Nothin’ But a Good Time” performance alongside his Poison bandmates and the cast of the “Rock of Ages” musical. He claims he had to be hospitalized for a broken nose and a cut lip. However, things took a turn for the worse six months later when the rock star nearly died from a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage . And in the lawsuit, Michaels, who is suing for unspecified damages, claims that the onstage injury is in direct relation with his near-fatal hospitalization. “One of the most common causes of this type of hemorrhage is head trauma — exactly like the one Michaels suffered at the hands of the Tony Awards,” the lawsuit claims. “Through his sheer will to live, to see his children grow up, [he] was able to survive this trauma.” Bret says in the suit that producers have “failed and refused” to help aid the situation and claimed that he “missed his mark” during the performance. Reps for Michaels have previously alleged the awards show’s negligence in the incident. In a statement to MTV News days after the mishap, the singer’s reps cited a “lack of communication” between their client and “the producers, directors, stage managers and crew” of the awards show. American Idol Shocker: Who Got Voted Out?

Three weeks into the American Idol finals, we were treated to our first surprise. Our first shock, really. Following an off night on Wednesday for a couple of THG favorites – Thia Megia and Casey Abrams – they found themselves in the bottom three along with Stefano Langone. It was a scary few moments for those of us who love Thia’s voice and Casey’s originality. In the end, Megia and Langone were told to join the other, safe contestants, while millions of jaws crashed to the floor when Ryan told Casey he had been voted out. He went back to “I Don’t Need No Doctor” in an attempt to be saved, but was told a few lines into the performance to stop because… Did the judges make the right choice this week? … the panel voted unanimously to save him! “We just want you to get back to being the musician that you are,” Jennifer said. “No more antics… You deserve to be here.” Two finalists will be voted out next Thursday, as Abrams stood on stage, truly taken aback and responding: “I thought that they wouldn’t use the save, because there’s 11 people. It’s unreal. I started singing, and the fact that you cut it scared the stuff out of me.”

Elizabeth Taylor Dies at age 79

Elizabeth Taylor, the epitome of old-school Hollywood glamour, died in Los Angeles yesterday of congestive heart failure. Liz was known for her torrid personal life as well as her magnetic screen presence and patrician beauty, marrying no less than 8 times (to 7 men- Richard Burton received the honor of being Mr. Elizabeth Taylor twice). Liz started acting at the tender age of 9, and had her first big breakthroughs as Lassie’ s sidekick and as a young equestrian in National Velvet (1944) . In the 1950s she starred in award-winning epics like Giant (1956), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) , and Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) and won an Oscar for her performance in Butterfield 8 (1960) . In a case of diva life imitating diva art, her adulterous sexcapades with costar Burton scandalized Hollywood and delayed the release of Cleopatra (1963) . In the late 60’s and 70’s La Liz continued to bring the diva full force, pushing the envelope with outrageous moments like seducing her husband’s mistress in X,Y, and Zee (1972) , bath time with Mia Farrow in Secret Ceremony (1968) and a roadside BJ in Driver’s Seat (1975) . Her last onscreen role was in the live action adaptation of The Flintstones (1994) , where she was still a stunner at 62. Liz committed herself to raising money for AIDS research in her later years, despite her deterioriating health. This grande dame of the dramatic arts made an indelible impact on Hollywood, and her white diamonds will sparkle on forever.

The Black Eyed Peas Just Can’t Get Enough

“This song is about love and strength and is dedicated to our friends in Japan.” That’s how Will.I.am introduced his group’s rendition of “Just Can’t Get Enough” last night, as The Black Eyed Peas followed Lee DeWyze and performed on the American Idol results show. Toned down a bit from their Super Bowl spectacle, the single featured Will.I.am on the piano and Fergie in a white dress with St. Patrick’s Day-themed nail polish. A nice touch. New ‘Superman’ To Follow ‘Batman Begins’ Blueprint, Zack Snyder Says

‘The whole thing is very much from that perspective of respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies,’ director tells L.A. Times. By Eric Ditzian Zack Snyder and Superman Photo: AFP/ Alex Ross/ DC Comics “Superman” director Zack Snyder finds himself in much the same position Christopher Nolan did in the run-up to “Batman Begins.” Nolan had to pick up the scraps of a broken franchise — thanks, “Batman & Robin”! — and re-engineer the Caped Crusader for a new century. Snyder, similarly, finds the Man of Steel in poor shape following an attempted 2006 reboot that left audiences underwhelmed. Is it any surprise, then, that Snyder plans to follow the example Nolan set back in 2005? “Literally, the one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we’re making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there’s been no other Superman movies,” Snyder told the Los Angeles Times. “If you look at ‘Batman Begins,’ there’s that structure, there’s the canon that we know about and respect, but on other hand there’s this approach that pre-supposes that there haven’t been any other movies. In every aspect of design and of story, the whole thing is very much from that perspective of respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.” To that end, it helps, no doubt, that Nolan has taken on a sort of godfather role on the project (officially, he’s a producer), not just as a creative guide, but as a concrete example showing that such an approach can actually work. “Chris is awesome. He’s super-respectful but super-helpful, too. You can’t imagine a more generous [collaborator],” Snyder said. “Once he sort of got what I want to do with it, he was like, ‘OK,’ and once he said, ‘You know what, that’s awesome,’ now he’s 100 percent. If I say, ‘What do you think of this?’ he’s like, ‘That’s awesome,’ and then there’s a great give-and-take about it, a great conversation that we can have about it and making it better every day.” There are a lot of days still ahead. The movie — which, Snyder confirmed, has the working title “Man of Steel” — won’t hit theaters until December 2012. Before they even begin shooting, Snyder plans to release a photo of Henry Cavill in costume as Superman , lest an unsanctioned paparazzi photo become the first-ever look at the revamped hero. What we end up seeing in the first official pic, and what ends up onscreen late next year, may not be at all what we’re expecting. “In some ways Superman is the most recognizable superhero on the planet but also the most unknown. Just what he can be?” Snyder said. “People have preconceived ideas about him but probably all of them are wrong.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Man of Steel.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
