Brian Littrell and AJ McLean preview track on Backstreet Boys cruise. By Jocelyn Vena The New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images NKOTBSB fans have a lot to look forward to in 2011. The guys have announced they’ll be hitting the road for a tour , and now comes a little preview of a song the groups recorded together. On Monday (December 20), Perez Hilton posted a video of the Backstreet Boys debuting “Don’t Turn Out the Lights” for fans during their cruise earlier this month. “A song by NKOTBSB,” AJ McLean told the room of screaming fans, with Brian Littrell by his side. “I’m gonna tell you guys, ‘Don’t turn out the lights now.’ Press play.” The up-tempo jam features vocals from McLean, Littrell and Jordan Knight about still being in love with someone. The guys sing, “I know we haven’t been getting along/ I don’t want to say goodbye/ Memories come flooding back/ I love you like that/ We can get it back again/ Don’t turn out the lights now.” After cutting off the song early, McLean explained, “We can’t play the whole thing, just ’cause with the tour coming up. It’s a sample.” Despite pressure from both McLean and Littrell, their lawyer refused to let them play the sample again. An official release date or other information about the track was not available. Back in November, all nine members of NKOTBSB teased a possible collaboration of new material, and not just mash-ups , in an interview they gave shortly after . “It’s tough getting these guys in the studio, these young cats,” Joey McIntyre shared . ” Well, it’s honestly, it is tough to get everybody together. Yes, we have lots of great intentions.” Do you like what you’ve heard of “Don’t Turn Out the Lights”? Give us your review in the comments below! Related Artists Backstreet Boys New Kids on the Block

As a result, the iconic rapper announced on Monday (December 20) via his satellite radio station, Shade 45, that he would broadcast one of the Home and Home concerts he and Jay-Z played in Detroit earlier this year. “As a special treat, for the listeners and the fans who missed the ‘Home and Home’ concerts with me and Jay-Z, Shade 45 is gonna air my performance from the Detroit show this New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m.,” Em said. The pair played four shows, two in each artist’s hometown, Detroit and New York . The gigs, which featured a number guest performers, went off without a hitch and were praised by fans and peers alike. Dr. Dre credited the event with inspiring him to finally put the finishing touches on his long-awaited Detox project. “Being on the stage with Eminem and Jay-Z was one of the most incredible feelings I’ve felt in a long time,” Dre said in September. “It inspired me, it made me want to hurry up and get back in the studio and put more effort and more work into my own project.” “If you weren’t there, this is what it sounded like,” Em said, dryly, while joking with Shade 45 general manager Rob “Reef” Tewlow. “It felt great, man,” Eminem added about the experience. “It was crazy. The energy of the crowd. Just me being home, you know? I don’t know, man — it’s a good thing. Blessed.” Do you plan on tuning in to Em’s Home and Home broadcast on New Year’s Eve? What are your 2010 Golden Globe predictons?

Only a day after the Golden Globe nominations were released, the press is already overwhelmed with nominee reactions (Sofia Vergara was apparently in the shower when she heard) and commentary on the mixture of veteran nominees and newcomers (Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, and Mila Kunis all grabbed noms for young Hollywood). Surely it's now time to start making predictions for the winners. Does a young actress like Emma Stone have a chance at winning Best Performance? Will David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's The Social Network sweep every category featuring someone connected to the movie? If Johnny Depp's nominated twice for Best Performance, do other actors even stand a chance? What are your predictions for the 2010 Golden Globes? added by: cberlin1

Kristen Stewart Is ‘Incredible’ In ‘On The Road,’ Garrett Hedlund Says

‘Everyone is going to get to see how hard a worker she is,’ he tells MTV News of KStew. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Garrett Hedlund Photo: MTV News While Garrett Hedlund isn’t exactly a household name yet, filmgoers will soon be very familiar with him via his two new projects “Tron Legacy” and “Country Strong,” not to mention the upcoming “On the Road” film. When MTV News caught up with the busy man recently, we asked him about the recent uptick in his career — beginning with landing that coveted role in “On the Road.” “It’s the hardest I’ve ever had to work, which is a very good sign,” Hedlund said about the big-screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s tour-de-beatnik classic. “It’s the greatest experience of my lifetime — well, these last couple years have [been]. All these mean so much to me ,with ‘Tron Legacy’ and the world getting to see [‘Tron’ director] Joseph Kosinski for the first time, who I feel is the next great visionary genius,” he said. “For ‘Country Strong,’ I worked six months on the guitar to get that down and to play a country singer with Gwyneth [Paltrow] and that gets to showcase Shana Feste’s incredible talents as a writer/director, because she’s just miraculous. “Now with ‘On the Road,’ getting to work with Walter Salles, who I owe such a tremendous amount to because he gives me so much,” he explained of the “Motorcycle Diaries” director. “He fulfills me with so much other people haven’t been able to do, and he does it so simply.” Hedlund went on to say that “Road” will be full color not black-and-white, which had been rumored, and he called the experience, fittingly, “a long journey.” Regarding Kristen Stewart, Hedlund had nothing but the highest compliments to pay his co-star. “[She is] incredible, and in this, everyone is going to get to see how hard a worker she is, the devotion that she puts into her work,” Hedlund enthused. “And her performance is going to be exposed highly in this.” Hedlund added that the entire cast is packed with talent. “Everybody, Sam Riley is phenomenal, we’ve had a lot of wonderful surprises in having people like Viggo Mortenson, Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss join us,” he said. “Most recently, Steve Buscemi and Terrence Howard. Alice Braga, it’s been phenomenal, it’s been quite the family.” Are you excited to see “On the Road”? Tell us in the comments! OK Go Take You Behind The Scenes Of Their L.A. Parade

‘We are marching a loop that spells out ‘OK Go’ through Los Angeles,’ frontman Damian Kulash explains to MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Ok Go’s Tim Nordwind and Damian Kulash on the set of their video for “Back From Kathmandu” Photo: MTV News By now, thanks to their interpretive dance moves , treadmill heroics and Rube Goldberg machines, OK Go have basically become the premiere purveyors of gleefully ingenious, adorably low-budget music video magic. Which is just part of the reason why their latest endeavor — leading an impromptu parade through the streets of Los Angeles for no particular reason — also proved to be their most challenging: Seems no matter how they figured it, they just didn’t have the cash to make it happen. “We have wanted to have a big street parade for a long time,” OK Go frontman Damian Kulash told MTV News. “Our last album, we toured on for almost three years, and we were opening for these massive bands — we’d play for 25-30,000 people a night — and it would feel like a job. “And then we spent a weekend in New Orleans and saw a bunch of second line parades, and realized music doesn’t need to be about the product you make all the time, it doesn’t have to be about recordings or videos or anything; it can be about getting a bung-load of people together and making sound. “So we’ve wanted to do a street parade for a long time,” he continued. “The problem is: In Los Angeles, [you need] city permits, and you can’t really get a couple hundred people together to play music without paying the city a bunch of money.” Luckily — much like they did when they made their massive “This Too Shall Pass” clip — OK Go found a corporate sponsor willing to help foot the bill. Teaming with the folks at Range Rover, they designed a parade route using the company’s Pulse of the City GPS app and invited their fans to take part in their large-scale “art project.” “The idea is … we are going to make one giant painting, essentially, with Los Angeles. There’s a free application that tracks where you go,” Kulash explained. “We are marching a loop that spells out ‘OK Go’ through Los Angeles. We’re hoping when people see this, they’ll think, ‘That’s a great idea. I’m going to get into my car and drive all over Southeast Asia and make the Mona Lisa!’ ” And so, last month, they marched an army of about 150 through gridlocked traffic and neighborhood streets — playing their own songs and covers, such as Outkast’s “Hey Ya” and Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” — and assembled the footage into a video for their song “Back From Kathmandu.” The end result premiered Monday, and, while it’s another fitting addition to the band’s already-impressive video reel, to the guys in the band, it’s also something more. “It’s our art project, and, in a way, it’s helped me discover parts of Los Angeles I never knew existed,” Kulash said. “On the smaller side streets, people come streaming out of their houses, and all the kids join the parade. Everybody’s leaning out of their houses, and it makes you feel the community of Los Angeles in a way that’s generally hard to do because you usually drive through it.” Have you seen the “Back From Kathmandu” video? ‘American Idol’ Competitor ‘The Voice Of America’ Coming Next Spring

Mark Burnett-produced show will pair singers with celebrity mentors. By Gil Kaufman Mark Burnett Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images “American Idol” has ruled the TV landscape for almost a decade, drawing the biggest small-screen ratings of any show and quickly dispatching a series of wannabe competitors. But for next season, NBC has teamed up with “Survivor” heavyweight producer Mark Burnett to launch what could be the most serious challenge to the “Idol” throne yet. According to The Hollywood Reporter , NBC is aiming to steal the thunder of both “Idol” and Fox’s other upcoming reality singing show, Simon Cowell’s “The X Factor,” with a singing competition tentatively called “The Voice of America.” The show is based on the #1 program in the Netherlands, “The Voice of Holland,” which has reportedly put up some of the biggest ratings in Dutch TV history, steamrolling that country’s versions of “Idol” and “X Factor.” The new singing program is slated to premiere next spring, potentially going up against “Idol” and getting a jump on the fall launch of the first season of the American version of “The X Factor.” “Voice” will feature a panel of four celebrity coaches, who will sit with their backs to the contestants during the audition rounds in order to focus on their voices, not their looks. If they approve of the performance, they will push a button that will send the singer to the next round, claiming them as one of their students. If more than one judge likes a singer, that singer gets to choose which celebrity will be his or her coach. “Somebody will show up with all the right moves and look like a star, but their voice is only good, not great, and they don’t get chosen,” Burnett explained. “You’re dealing only with your sense of hearing — do you believe this voice is worthy of your commitment? The coaches have skin in the game and will be a part of the careers of these young performers after the show.” After the four teams are set, the coaches will mentor the contestants and pit the teams against one another, with viewers picking the winner. At times, the mentors will also place two team members against each other, giving them the same song to sing in front of the studio audience in order to decide which one they would like to keep developing. The final performance rounds, featuring the top vote getters from each team, will air live. The winner will receive a recording contract. The heat from the new kid on the block comes as “Idol” continues to tinker with its formula. In addition to the previously announced changes to its format, Entertainment Weekly reported on Monday that after the 325 Hollywood-round contenders were whittled down to 60, the whole crew moved to Las Vegas, where the remaining singers have been rehearsing to perform Beatles songs on the stage where Cirque du Soleil performs its Beatles homage, “Love.” New in-house mentor Interscope boss Jimmy Iovine has not only been providing advice on the new “American Idol,” but has brought along a group of mega-producers to guide the singers as well. Among the knob twiddlers offering advice: Alex da Kid (“Love the Way You Lie”), Tricky Stewart (“Baby”), Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins (“Telephone”), Polow da Don (“Turnin’ Me On”) and Jim Jonsin (“Whatever You Like”).
