Lady Gaga Says Born This Way Will Be ‘Greatest Album Of This Decade’

Singer also says there may be up to 20 new songs on the new album. By James Dinh Lady Gaga Photo: Paul Morigi/ WireImage It has been months since Lady Gaga first started hyping her forthcoming album, Born This Way , and the pop visionary recently raised the stakes. During a Monster Ball tour performance in Poland on Friday, the always bold singer promised fans that she’d deliver “the greatest album of this decade,” with possibly up to 20 new tracks. She also revealed that Born This Way doesn’t follow current trends. “I promise you, I’ll never let you down. And not for nothing: The album’s finished and it’s f—ing really good,” Gaga tearfully told the audience , who simultaneous held up signs that read “Born This Way” backward. “So whatever this is, whatever you just did for all of us … I promise to give you the greatest album of this decade, just for you.” The singer, who is prepping a promotional campaign for the album, also touched base on what sounds like a possible dig at her pop competitors, saying, “The funny thing is that some people have reduced freedom to a brand. They think that it’s trendy now to be free. They think it’s trendy to be excited about your identity. When in truth, there is nothing trendy about Born This Way . ” Describing the new album as “a spirit” and “this connection that we all share,” the pop star confessed that her new music “is something so much deeper than a wig or lipstick or an outfit, or a f—ing meat dress. … Born This Way is about what keeps us up at night and what makes us afraid.” Gaga isn’t the only who has been talking up the new material, as everyone from the singer’s manager , Akon , Elton John and Monster Ball opening act Semi Precious Weapons have also gushed about the album. While the songstress told the crowd that the LP will consist of mostly “f—ing sledge-hammering dance,” she’s still unsure of the length of Born This Way, but plans to give fans as much music as possible. “I’m still deciding, the album could be longer than you would imagine … I’m not sure,” she said. “I can’t decide, really, because I think that times are different, you know. It used to be kind of a faux pas to put out too much music on your album, but I feel like you guys deserve all of the records I do, ’cause I work hard on them. So who knows, you might get, like, 20 new Gaga songs .” Do you think Gaga’s new album will live up to her promise? Share your thoughts in the comments. ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ Director Jon Favreau Offers Trailer Play-By-Play

Favreau sits down with MTV News to talk about opening scene, villainous Harrison Ford and a ‘mistake’ fans found in the sneak peek. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jon Favreau Photo: MTV News “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau sure knows how to cut a trailer. Going back to his sneak peek for the first “Iron Man” — which brought down the house at that year’s San Diego Comic-Con — to the debut of the highly anticipated “Cowboys & Aliens” trailer last week, Favreau seems to be an expert at getting fans into a frenzy. Due in large part to the response from the trailer, and our own excitement for Favreau’s upcoming flick, MTV News caught up with the man himself at his editing bay in Santa Monica, California, for a play-by-play look at his titillating teaser. “This is new for me,” Favreau said of commenting on his trailer. “I’m already doing a commentary track on a [trailer]. I’m in the middle of [editing] my director’s cut.” Beginning with the first shot — in which a rough-and-tumble Daniel Craig wakes with a start to discover a mysterious metal band on his arm — Favreau addressed the challenge of melding two genres: western and sci-fi. “When you’re doing a mash-up of two genres, if you play with either of them tongue-in-cheek, the combo is not going to be what’s special,” he said. “It allowed us to play western pretty dead straight.” Also, that opening shot will likely be the film’s opening sequence too. “It’s the first shot — I’m in my director’s cut, but right now, this is essentially how the movie starts,” Favreau revealed, adding that the credit for that opening goes to executive producer Steven Spielberg. “The writers told me when Spielberg was developing the script, this was one of his big ideas, this [opening] image.” Another arresting image in the teaser is iconic actor Harrison Ford looking not-so-Harrison-Ford-like but rather grizzly and villainous. Favreau explained that he wants fans to see another side of their favorite actor, with shades of Han Solo and Indiana Jones. “When Harrison comes into the movie, how do you separate him from everything he’s done? How do you present him in a way that I, as a fan, would want to see him?” Favreau said of the challenge in having Ford portray a seemingly villainous character. “He was always this bastard with a big heart; that’s the archetype I like for him. “Everybody’s got kind of a rough edge,” Favreau added. “This is a genre film.” One more aspect to touch on, via hundreds of comments on the Internet, is a certain shot in which fans claimed that they could see a wire pulling an actor into the air; Favreau said that was no accident. “When you see more about the way the aliens work, there is a device that they abduct people with that that is a practical element of,” he explained. “It’s not a mistake — we didn’t miss the paint-out — but thanks to the people playing at home. If you could catch that, I’m very proud.” Favreau ended his first trailer play-by-play with a good-natured “thank you” to all the fans. “We’re working hard. Thanks to all of you for putting wind in our sails,” he said. “I’m glad you liked what we put out there.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Cowboys & Aliens.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . The Black Eyed Peas’ American Music Awards Performance Welcomes Us to the Future

While Justin Bieber won Artist of the Year at last night’s American Music Awards, the Black Eyed Peas proved themselves worthy of their Best Pop/Rock Group title as well. Their performance of “This Time (The Dirty Bit)” was … something else. Something else is the only way to put it. There’s no comparison to the flashy, glow-in-the-dark spectacle accompanying their new single, which borrows the chorus of the Dirty Dancing theme song, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” as will.i.am and Fergie crooned to throughout. It was the freestyle dance moves and dancers wearing box-shaped headpieces that really stole the show, though. At the end, will.i.am plugged the band’s new album, saying, “November 30, The Beginning . Welcome to the future!” Bring it on. Watch their performance after the jump! Justin Bieber Gets Serious With ‘Pray’ At AMAs

Teen star performed his new ballad at Sunday’s American Music Awards. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber performs at the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: ABC Sitting at a piano, Justin Bieber showed his haters he’s more than a pretty face and floppy hair for his American Music Awards performance. Bieber played his new single, the uplifting ballad “Pray,” which is a departure from his usual upbeat pop fare. There were no pyrotechnics and no backup dancers. The beginning of the performance was all about Bieber singing the new track off his My Worlds Acoustic album (out on Friday). Midway through the song, however, Bieber threw in that showmanship that’s made him famous. Just one performance after Katy Perry used a children’s choir for her performance of her equally inspirational song, “Firework,” Bieber was joined by a choir of his own. He ended the song on his knees while the crowd rose to their feet to give him a standing ovation. The track — which features a mid-tempo, world-music beat, synths and Bieber’s vocals in a lower key than we’ve heard before — repeats one simple refrain in the chorus. “I close my eyes and I can see a better day/ I close my eyes and pray,” he sings. “It’s a very uplifting song, very motivational,” Bieber told Ryan Seacrest earlier this week about the song. “It definitely comes from the heart. It’s very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson’s] ‘Man in the Mirror’ when I was writing it. The track can be found on the singer’s third release in a year, which features acoustic versions of some of his biggest hits like “Baby.” What did you think of Justin Bieber’s AMA performance?
