Ke$ha Hopes Her ‘American Idol’ Performance Was ‘Infectious’

She also weighs in on her ‘Idol’ faves: ‘I’m rooting for anyone who stands for something and who can be honest and genuine.’ By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images On Wednesday night, Ke$ha, along with her pals 3OH!3 , hit the “American Idol” stage with their song “Blah Blah Blah.” The performance included dancing with TV heads and Ke$ha donning a Native American headdress while bouncing around the stage. How does Ke$ha think the performance went? “Well, I never really know, but I think it went pretty well from what I’ve heard from family members and friends and stuff,” she told MTV News via phone Thursday (March 18). ” … I think it came across like we were just having a good time onstage, like, just playing dress-up. And I was kind of making an ass of myself at the end, but whatever. I was having a good time. I hope it was infectious.” As for her look, which included a silver top, hot pants and the aforementioned headdress, she said she took the advice of a certain Talking Heads frontman. “I just want to inspire people to have a good time, and I feel like if I’m being irreverent, it inspires people to have the freedom to be themselves,” she said. “David Byrne said, ‘Everything onstage needs to be much bigger.’ Maybe I wouldn’t be wearing an armored bustier just on the street, but on the stage, I wanted to look like a warrior for irreverence and dance commander.” With the performance behind her, who is Ke$ha rooting for on “Idol”? “I don’t know anybody’s names but the blond dude that I’m rooting for,” she said of Casey James. “I also thought the chick that got voted off [ Lacey Brown ], I thought she was pretty while singing, which I haven’t figured out — how to look cool while singing — but she looked pretty while singing. I was impressed.” While Ke$ha thinks everyone deserves a chance during the competition, she just hopes that whomever wins can live up to the “Idol” name. “I think that ‘idol’ is a pretty intense word to describe a human being, and you should definitely be able to sing to be an idol,” she said. “You have to have a particular message, whatever that may be. I would love to see and hear if they had a chance to put into their own words what each of them stand for, ’cause I’m rooting for anyone who stands for something and who can be honest and genuine.” What did you think of Ke$ha’s “Idol” performance? American Idol Performance of the Week: Siobhan Magnus’ "Paint it Black"

Some fans were floored by it, and others weren’t impressed, but it’s safe to say that 19-year-old Siobhan Magnus’ rendition of “Paint it Black” was definitely the most buzzed-about of this week’s 12 American Idol performances . The judges loved it, though Simon even acknowledged that a lot of people are likely to dislike her flamboyant style. That’s a compliment, as it beats indifference. We gotta give it up to Siobhan Magnus for upping the drama, paying tribute to this Rolling Stones classic, yet being original and keeping us riveted throughout. Here’s the performance if you missed it or want another look … Siobhan Magnus: Paint it Black What do you think? The night’s best, or not worth the hype some gave it? Can Siobhan compete for the American Idol title or will she fade fast?

Lee Dewyze Profile: What Are The Rocker’s ‘Idol’ Chances?

‘American Idol’ Top 12 cheat sheet looks at Dewyze’s strengths and weaknesses. By Jim Cantiello Lee DeWyze at the “American Idol” top 12 party Photo: Jesse Grant/ WireImage On Thursday night, “American Idol” revealed its Top 12 Finalists for the ninth season of the hit show. MTV News “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello whipped up a handy cheat sheet for each finalist, breaking down each candidate’s journey thus far. He also got the “Idol” hopefuls to weigh in when he caught up with them at Thursday night’s Top 12 Party in Hollywood. Lee Dewyze With angsty rock vocals and a troubled youth past, Lee Dewyze is the brooding bad boy of this “Idol” season. Lee’s weathered voice shares traits with rock superstars like Chad Kroeger and Daughtry, which might explain why the judges are especially supportive of Dewyze’s “Idol” journey. Best Performance : Simon may have loved Lee’s “Chasing Cars,” but we thought his unexpected take on Owl City’s “Fireflies” showed more promise. Plus, it was the only time the former paint salesman looked like he was having fun on stage. Weakest Performance : Dewyze struggled to stay on pitch during Hinder’s “Lips of an Angel.” He also struggled to keep his pants up, making him look like a low-level amateur. Tragic Backstory : We found out last week that Lee was kicked out of public school … for something. In a sincere interview package, Dewyze pointed to music (and his teachers) as an inspiration to change his troubled ways. Why He Will Win : Lee’s voice is a slam dunk for radio, and the only thing “Idol” fans like more than voting for their fave is to see their fave’s music move up the charts. It appears Simon Cowell has picked Lee to be his pet project, too, yet he talks about him as if he’s the dark horse of the season. A dark horse who’s also getting plugged by Cowell? It seems foolproof! Finally, Dewyze is starting to attract a heavily female cougar fan base, and it wouldn’t be the first time those ladies have pushed a dude to the top of the heap. ‘American Idol’ Top 12 Party Why He Will Lose : Lee’s constant battle with pitch may prevent him from ever having a true “moment.” What He Should Sing : If given the chance, Dewyze should return to the modern rock format, but deviate from vocalists who share a similar rasp. How about the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge?” On His Least Favorite Performance, “Chasing Cars” “I was so nervous and [the judges] said I was pitchy and I knew I was. It was nerve-wracking, you know? And I looked at myself and was like, ‘What are you doing?’ But I’m kind of one of those guys that just gets up there and jams.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. American Idol Performance of the Week: Michael Lynche

On American Idol , he’s known as “Big Mike.” This moniker, bestowed upon semifinalist Michael Lynche by Ryan Seacrest, refers to the former’s massive stature. But it’s also now appropriate for the impression made Lynche last night. It was BIG! Belting out Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work,” Lynch literally brought Kara DioGuardi to tears. She had to be comforted by Simon Cowell, while the crowd couldn’t stop applauding. Watch the performance below, and be warned Casey James : you’re no longer the male favorite. This Woman’s World

Marie Osmond Dedicates Return Vegas Show to Late Son

Following the tragic death of her son , Marie Osmond returned to the Las Vegas stage, alongside brother Donny, last night. The siblings performed for a sold-out crowd, as Marie dedicated the concert to her late child, saying: “The way Osmonds survive is we keep singing. That’s what we want to do tonight. I know my son would want that and this show is for him.” The crowd stood and cheered Marie throughout the 90-minute event, growing especially supportive when Donny said: “I think we need to give a big round of applause for my sister for even coming on stage.” This performance came just days after Rosebanne Barr actually called Marie out for playing a role in Michael’s suicide. The washed-up comedian said Osmond should have chosen her son over her supposedly gay-bashing religion. Despite this controversy and despite their grief, the Osmonds had fun on stage. Marie joked about about her brother’s dancing skills, to which Donny replied that he won Dancing With the Stars . But he didn’t do that in heels, Marie pointed out, as she exceled at on the ABC show. As one could only expect, it was an emotional night. Marie wiped away tears when finishing the evening’s final number, “It Takes Two.”

America Almost Gets It Right

If a baseball player were to get a hit three out of every four at bats, he’d be a first ballot Hall of Famer. If three out of every four couples on The Bachelor got married, viewers might not consider the show more of a farce than Sarah Palin’s claims to be a serious political figure. Still, when American Idol viewers only get three out of four eliminations correct, the one they overlooked stands out the most. Can anyone out there explain why Lacey Brown will be singing next week, while Michelle Delamor will be watching from home?!? The former simply doesn’t have the voice to compete, while the latter comes across as stiff sometimes, but can undoubtedly carry a major tune. Sigh. We do give America props got eliminating Haeley “I Smile Like a Doll” Vaughn, Jermaine “God is My Homie” Sellers and John “There’s Nothing Special About Me” Park. And after Crystal Bowersox blew us away this week , it’s hard to complain about anything. But Delamor deserved to stick around. It was also nice to see Danny Gokey again. We’ve posted a photo of his performance below, as well as a few more from the results show:
