‘I think it’s important … for people to not think people in my position are perfect,’ Perry tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry is not looking to hold anything back when she releases her 3-D concert movie, “Part of Me,” in July. Shot throughout 2011, the film takes fans backstage on her California Dreams Tour, into the studio with the singer and on set for her videos, giving audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the hard work involved in being a pop star. Yet, with so many moments captured for this movie, Perry admits it’s hard to narrow down the one scene that all fans will be talking about. “There’s lots of moments,” Perry told MTV News at the Pepsi Fleet Week Katy Perry “Part of Me” Concert . “I love making music videos and I like them to be jam-packed visually, and I want there to not be a dull moment in this film. There’s really high-energy moments. Of course, there’s the concert. If some people didn’t see the show — which a lot of people haven’t seen the show because really I’ve done 124 shows — but a lot of people couldn’t get a ticket or they just couldn’t make it out that night, so I cut together the best of the show.” But there is much more to this film than the dazzling onstage performances. The singer is out to show all her Katy Cats the real Katy Perry . The film delves into Perry’s struggle with making it as a singer, her strict Christian upbringing and, of course, her much publicized divorce from Russell Brand . “There’s a lot of background of how I got to where I am, but such a huge emotional palette in the movie, and it’s going to be really exciting,” Perry said. “It’s the most intimate I’ve ever been. I mean that in a non-sexual way … I mean it in a vulnerable way. And so I’m not scared of it because I think it’s important for me, and important these days, for people to not think people in my position are perfect and that if they want to achieve this type of dream or achieve a goal that they have to be flawless, they don’t.” And Perry admits she is far from flawless in this film, revealing to her fans that even though she may be one of the biggest pop stars in the world, she is still just a normal girl. “What you see in the movie is all the mechanics of the operation,” Perry said. “And there’s a lot of me bloated, with zits, fat, not shaded, not carved, not snatched, just normal.” The “Katy Perry: Part of Me” concert film hits theaters July 5. ‘I still love her as a human being,’ MTV Movie Awards host tells Ellen DeGeneres. By Jocelyn Vena Russell Brand and Katy Perry Photo: Charley Gallay/ WireImage Russell Brand has only the kindest words for his pop-star ex, Katy Perry. The actor chatted with Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show airing Thursday (May 17), and when asked about the split, Brand said that while they are no longer together, he still loves and respects her. “I still love her as a human being,” the comedian said. “But sometimes when you’re in a relationship, I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was very happy to be married with her. She’s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her. “You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life,” he added. “Sometimes things are just different and then you have to just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and with each other with any situation.” Brand and Perry announced their split in December 2011, after a year of marriage. During the interview, he added that she’s “a person I still consider to be beautiful. … I have nothing but positivity for her. She is [an amazing person].” The actor/comedian is now poised for a busy June. Brand is set to host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , which will air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This marks the third time he’s hosted an MTV awards show, having hosted the Video Music Awards in 2008 and 2009. And it seems that his signature cheeky humor will be in full force at the show. “MTV Movie Awards incorporates two of my favorite things: movies and awards. If somehow group sex could be involved, it would be the greatest night of my life,” Brand said. In addition to his MTV Movie Awards hosting gig, his new flick, the big-screen adaptation of “Rock of Ages,” opens June 15. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! Singer debuts ‘Wide Awake’ ahead of her ‘Part of Me’ 3-D concert film release in July. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry performs at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Katy Perry was “Wide Awake” at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 20). The purple-haired singer took the stage in glittering Las Vegas to debut her new single, the slow-motion breakup track from her Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection album. It’s also the song she’s picked to promote her 3-D concert film, “Part of Me,” out in July. Dressed in all white, almost like a bride (ironic, given she’s back on the market after her split from husband Russell Brand ), the performance opened with Perry descending from the ceiling over the stage, surrounded by Cirque du Soleil-type acrobats and steampunk touches, including dancers in top hats and a setting that almost looked like it was from the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight” video. Perry mostly floated over the stage in a white ribbon that kept her hanging in the air as she sang about letting her heartbreak go to start anew. The dreamy vibe of the performance mirrored the song’s ethereal feeling. Earlier in the night, in a sparkling lavender gown, Perry took the stage to accept her Spotlight award for amassing five #1 hits from her Teenage Dream album. “Thank you. They told me the only other person who received this award is Michael Jackson, so I feel incredibly honored,” she told the room. “I always say the people have the power, so I want to thank all the glittering, gorgeous [people] out there. Rock on, KatyCats! “Tonight, later, when I get on the stage, I’m going to be singing my personal, intimate song,” she added, before shouting out her date. “The real rock star here is my grandmother. She’s 91 and she’s from Las Vegas. I can’t wait to go and do shots with you after this!” The same night she was in Vegas to perform the song, a lyric video was released as a teaser to the song’s music video, which Perry filmed earlier this month .
