Now that’s one way to make a memorable fashion statement and avoid becoming one of the celebrities who got slimed … what would the point be? At least night’s Kids’ Choice Awards, Katy Perry showed off a few inches of her midriff in a neon green ensemble with matching peep toe heels … … and a sports bra-like top dripping in slime: The award show, of course, is known for its orange carpet and time-honored tradition of dumping industrial-size quantities of green slime on some “lucky” winners. Perry was among the Kids’ Choice Award winners for her role in The Smurfs , but the only slime Katy wore was on her chest from the get-go, though. Paired with her purple and blue ponytail and bubblegum lips, the pop superstar actually managed to make this absurd ensemble look cute. Not a small feat. [Photos: WENN.com]

Katy Perry and One Direction’s performances, Will Smith’s hosting skills and more have us pumped for Saturday night. By Kara Warner Katy Perry Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images This year’s Kids’ Choice Awards are going to be as action-packed as ever, with Will Smith as host, two killer performers lined up and a slew of celebrities expected to be in attendance. Here are the five things we’re looking forward to during the live show at 8 p.m. Saturday: Katy Perry’s Performance Perry is not only one of this year’s top nominees , but the “Teenage Dream” singer will also take the stage at USC’s Galen Center to present and perform. So what song will she sing? What will she wear? Will her hair still be blue? One of Perry’s biggest hits, “Firework,” is up for Favorite Song. She is also nominated for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie for her role in “The Smurfs.” A Host With Big Willie Style Nickelodeon hit the jackpot of high-profile celeb hosts in landing Will Smith for their master of ceremonies this year. Although he’s one of the biggest stars around, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen the former Fresh Prince. We’ve seen a lot of his son Jaden and daughter Willow, who are becoming big stars in their own right, but we are psyched to see what Smith has planned as host. Will he be joined onstage by his kids? Will he incorporate a few of his famous friends into the act, like Tom Cruise? Will we get a sneak peek at new footage from the upcoming “Men in Black III”? We’ll have to wait and see. One Direction Break Hearts Stateside The cute and charming lads of “it” boy band One Direction will no doubt bring the house down with whatever they perform on the show. A word of advice to the lucky folks attending the show: Think about bringing earplugs to protect yourself from the enthusiastic, high-pitched screams that will take over the Galen Center the instant the British pop group takes the stage. And they’re not taking the opportunity lightly. “Kids’ Choice is the biggest night on Nickelodeon,” Niall Horan told MTV News about the magnitude of their appearance on the show. “All the big stars are going to be there, and when we found out it was just us and Katy Perry performing, we were like, ‘Geez, this is a big deal.’ ” An Appearance By a First Lady Talk about upping the style and class factor! The fact that the very well-respected FLOTUS will be on hand to present Taylor Swift with an award is a really big deal. Michele Obama will honor Swift with the Big Help Award, in recognition of her philanthropic efforts, including work with U.S. tornado and flood survivors. Obama herself was the recipient of the award in 2010, in recognition of her Let’s Move! Campaign, which champions healthier lifestyles for kids. And, as if that weren’t enough to establish her Nick cred, earlier this year, Obama also appeared on a special episode of “iCarly” to promote her Joining Forces initiative to support military families. Who Will Get Slimed? On to the most intriguing and entertaining part of the annual awards show: Who will get slimed? Despite the sticky, icky and total-mess factor that is involved with being covered from head to toe in the network’s trademark green slime, it is considered an honor to get hit with the goo, which is said to be a mixture of green Jell-O, shampoo, oatmeal and flour. The illustrious list of previously slimed celebs includes: Katy Perry , Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Justin Timberlake, the Jonas Brothers, Jackson Rathbone and Russell Brand. So who’s going down this year? Traditionally, the host is a prime target toward the end of the show, so we can probably count on seeing Smith covered in green, but who else? Maybe Perry or one of the presenters — Chris Rock, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Zac Efron, Victoria Justice, Big Time Rush or Cee Lo Green. Don’t miss the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. Related Artists Katy Perry One Direction
Katy Perry and rumored rebound beau Baptiste Giabiconi have been playing it coy as far as the romance rumors go … but here they are in a cute Twitpic! The hunk personally Tweeted a picture of the duo cuddling up this past weekend. “@katyperry hey my #littlekats u look So amazing in this pics!:)” he wrote. Aww. The duo has become inseparable as Perry makes her way around Europe this week, with Baptiste Giabiconi, a model and aspiring singer, fielding equal measures of abuse and encouragement over his rumored dalliance with Katy. No official confirmation about their relationship status, of course. She’s not one for the celebrity gossip . Good ol’ Bapts did actually clarify one matter, however. “Sorry i m not gay!” he wrote in response to a follower asking if he was. Yeah. And that’s probably the closest thing to a response we can expect from either.
Singer opens up about shooting video at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base on ‘MTV First: Katy Perry.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry takes on a whole new role in her new “Part of Me” video. In it, she plays a woman who joins the Marines following her breakup with her boyfriend. While Perry is usually pretty soft and feminine in her clips, this video shows another rougher, tougher side of the superstar — running through the mud and wearing a uniform and face paint. And that was her intention. “Well, I think that everybody can see that I love to take chances with my videos, and also have a lot of fun,” she told MTV News when she premiered the Ben Mor-directed video on “MTV First: Katy Perry” Wednesday night (March 21). If the video seems a bit hard for the singer who previously brought us candy-coated imagery and whipped-cream-spewing bras, then “mission accomplished.” “It’s an affirmation of strength, so I wanted to go the strongest route I ever could,” she explained. “Literally, I was like, ‘I’m gonna join the service. I’m gonna join the Marines.’ We used only Marines. … For three days, I was a wannabe Marine, which was so difficult.” The video was shot over several days in February at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in Oceanside, California. And for Katy it was all about fully experiencing life as a Marine in boot camp. “Those people work hard and work out. I learned how to flip someone. I learned how to flip them on their back. I learned how to wrestle underwater,” she said about her training for the video, which also includes some boot camp footage. The singer knew that authenticity would be important. “I just love it and I think people really respond to it,” she said. “People can catch the BS … and I just wanted to really go for it.” “Part of Me” is the lead single off Perry’s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, out March 26. Singer set to appear on ‘MTV First’ Wednesday at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV and premiere her video for ‘Part of Me.’ By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Niki Nikolova/ Getty Images Katy Perry is showing her soft side on the latest selection from her forthcoming Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection album, which drops March 26. The mid-tempo track, “Wide Awake,” reflects on coming down from the “high” of love. Slower-paced than her first Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection single, “Part of Me,” “Wide Awake” is less about the kiss-off and more about the sadness that settles in after a love affair ends. Given that Katy recently went through a breakup with her husband, Russell Brand, the lyrics certainly seem relevant to her life. But since “Part of Me” and another Complete Confection track, “Dressin’ Up,” were recorded long before this re-release, it’s hard to tell whether the comedian is actually the intended target. Co-written by Bonnie McKee, the reflective track has Perry singing, “Thunder rumbling/ Castles crumbling/ I’m trying to hold on/ God knows that I tried/ Seeing the bright side/ I’m not blind anymore.” “I’m working with Katy and it’s great,” McKee told MTV News. “I’m really excited and I think everyone is going to really relate to and love what she’s doing next. It’s kind of a departure from what she’s been doing in the past. We are a great team when we write together because we don’t let each other settle; every single line is a philosophical debate. “She’s going through some major life changes,” McKee added. “So it’s not all about bubble gum and fun. It’s real and it’s deep and she has a lot to say. So I think people are anxious to hear it.” Perry is set to open up about The Complete Confection during “MTV First: Katy Perry” on Wednesday, March 21, at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. The singer will also premiere her highly anticipated video for “Part of Me” Wednesday, followed by a 30-minute interview with MTV News’ James Montgomery on MTV.com. Singer will premiere ‘Part of Me’ video on Wednesday, March 21, at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry will sit down with MTV News on Wednesday, March 21, to premiere her emotional, feisty clip for “Part of Me” during “MTV First: Katy Perry.” The premiere takes place at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV, and it’s followed by a 30-minute chat with MTV News’ very own James Montgomery, airing live on MTV.com. The singer, however, isn’t a “First” newbie. Perry sat down with Sway Calloway in March 2011 to premiere the Floria Sigismondi-directed “E.T.” video, and afterward she opened up about the spacey clip. She later won the Best Collaboration VMA with Kanye West for the video. So before she sits down with MTV News for her latest “First,” let’s reflect on the best trivia we learned from her candid first one. How did Katy end up recording the super-trippy “E.T.”? “I’ll tell you, it’s funny … this song, I remember writing with Max Martin and Dr. Luke, and there’s this producer they wrote with, named Ammo, and they were just showing me different samples of songs or tracks or beats, and they accidentally pulled up this beat, and it was for Three 6 Mafia,” Perry said about the song, which is about falling in love with an alien. “I heard it and I always knew I wanted to write this futuristic, alienistic song, and they pulled it up and I was like, ‘Wait, I can wrap my head around this. I know this seems like a long shot, but I think I have the perfect material to put on top of this sound.’ And I did, and it really worked out perfectly.” How did she end up looking like a sexy alien creature in the video? “It was, like, five and six hours, each makeup look,” Perry said. “It was hard for me! It was really a patience thing for me on this video. But, you know, it’s like when you’re doing a film. Sometimes you have to do prosthetics, and you have to get really old or turn into an animal or a monster — and that’s kind of what this process was.” Would Katy ever travel to space? “I’m so into extraterrestrial stuff. … It’s very difficult for me to look up into the sky in the middle of the night and not think that our planet is one of … a bajillion. It’s really, really small,” she said, later sharing that she had plans to travel to space with her then-hubby Russell Brand. Well, with the singer always saying and doing the unexpected, Katy Cats should expect even more memorable moments this time around. “Part of Me” is the lead single off of her March 27 album release, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, which she will also talk about, as well as her forthcoming concert movie, “Katy Perry: Part of Me.” Perry’s fans can get in on the action of her “MTV First” by submitting video or text questions via Twitter (using @MTVNews / hashtag #MTVFirst or #KatyQ). Before the premiere of “Part of Me,” a tease of the clip will air on “VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live” on March 21 at 10 a.m. ET/PT, giving fans a taste of what they can expect from Katy in the video. In the super-fast teaser, Perry is channeling her inner Marine. A few shots of guns and night vision preview boot camp for the singer. The sneak peek closes on Perry’s face painted in camouflage makeup. She shot the video on a military base in California in February. Immediately following the premiere of “Part of Me” on MTV, the video for the deeply emotional single will air on Logo, debut on MTV.com, VH1.com and LOGOtv.com, and go into rotation on mtvU, MTV Hits and AMTV the following morning. Additionally, the video will debut on Saturday, March 24, at 9 a.m. ET/PT during VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown” and on TeenNick’s “Obsess This” music block at 7 a.m. ET and Sunday, March 25, at 8:30 a.m. ET. Perry will debut the video for her hit on ‘MTV First: Katy Perry’ on Wednesday, March 21, at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. By John Mitchell Katy Perry in her “Part of Me” video Photo: Capitol Katy Perry ‘s 2011 was huge, and 2012 is shaping up to be even bigger with the March 26 release of Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection and a new album in the works. We’re just days away from “MTV First: Katy Perry,” when the pop star will debut her video for 53rd Grammy Awards as one of the top nominees. Her Teenage Dream was up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, and the tracks “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls” were nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Collaboration, respectively. She also hit the stage to perform a medley of her Dream tracks “Not Like the Movies” and “Teenage Dream.” During “Movies,” Perry floated over the audience while footage from her lavish wedding ceremony in India to Russell Brand played on a screen behind her.
Katy Perry is going into battle, it seems, in her “Part Of Me” video. A preview of the visual for the recent Hot 100 chart-topping tune was revealed today, and it shows the sometimes-blue-haired songstress in army camouflage, marching along with other troops and looking none-too-happy. From that look in her eye, this probably wouldn’t … More » Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Idolator Discovery Date : 16/03/2012 12:00 Number of articles : 3
While the latest chapter in the rapidly expanding mythology of Harvey Weinstein involves the mogul shooting down a pitch from President Obama (“I sent him an e-mail back saying he was the most overqualified book scout I’ve ever had”), I remain preoccupied with the saga surrounding Bully , the Weinstein Company doc still embroiled in a battle with the MPAA ratings board to overturn its R for strong language. The publicity clamor continued Wednesday with a young bully victim dropping off a petition with a reported 200,000 signatures to MPAA HQ and Ellen Degeneres discussing the “controversy” on her show. But it’s what quietly came the day before that seems the most intriguing. In an interview published Tuesday, Harvey confided to his LAT pal Patrick Goldstein that Bully ‘s ratings appeal — which the Weinsteins say they lost by one vote — was itself the victim of a mystery MPAA study on language in films. And what a study! These idiots make Harvey look like Clarence Darrow: “After the language in King’s Speech became a big issue, we did a survey to see if parents wanted us to overlook the language,” [MPAA ratings board chair Joan] Graves told me. “And what we discovered was that, overwhelmingly, parents said they wanted to know what kind of language there was in the film. We asked specifically about the F-word, which clearly bothers a large number of people. That’s just how they feel. Language matters.” According to Weinstein, Graves brought up the still-unreleased survey as an argument against “Bully” in his appeal hearing. “It was like a scene out of ‘Perry Mason,’” Weinstein recalled. “The news of the survey came out of nowhere. Joan summarized it in our hearing and it really hurt us. We lost our appeal by one vote and I think the survey cost us that vote.” Graves told me she would eventually make the survey public but wouldn’t commit to a specific timetable. Weinstein argues that there’s no time like the present. “If it says what Joan says it does, she should release it,” he said. “If it makes a strong point, maybe we could learn from it. But I’d like to see the scientific evidence myself.” I love it — this idea of the MPAA drawing up some Middle American focus group of parents and asking what alarms them most about contemporary movies. And that all these parents yelped, “It’s the language! All those F-words in the King’s Speech ! What about the children?” before sobbing into the survey-taker’s cardigan. Because “that’s just how they feel.” No wonder Graves won’t release the study: It’s trapped in her lower intestine with the rest of her shit. Anyway, if giving it a PG-13 means that none of us ever have to hear about Bully ‘s ratings imbroglio again, then fine. Do it. Who cares? Harvey’s 60th birthday is coming up in a couple weeks. I want Joan Graves to jump out of a huge cake clutching a big PG-13. Maybe those 200,000 kids can sign a card next. And Obama can clasp a Medal of Freedom around his neck to go with the French Legion of Honor designation , commemorating everything Harvey has done for those ravaged by the tsunami of caprice and illegitimacy known as the MPAA ratings process. Or whatever. Let’s put this tragedy behind us. We’ve got a P.T. Anderson movie to get to. [ LAT ]
