Pop superstar Katy Perry will guest star on Raising Hope on the Tuesday, March 6 episode of the Fox sitcom, the network announced via press release this week. She’ll play a prison attendant who claims to be a former friend of Sabrina’s. The episode will find Sabrina arrested after participating in an Occupy Natesville protest. She ends up in jail, and Perry’s Rikki (below) plays a key role there: How did this come about? Executive producer Greg Garcia said: “Shannon Woodward (Sabrina) told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, ‘Why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor,’” “Then she came in and did a terrific job. She was hilarious.” “And now, people are telling me that Katy Perry is also a singer. I sincerely hope her appearance on RH helps her get her career off the ground. It’s a tough business.” Nicely played. We’re just sad she doesn’t have a blue ‘fro.
‘Part of Me’ singer was seen wearing Army fatigues on set in California. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images Katy Perry may be deep in shooting the video for her latest single, “Part of Me.” The singer was spotted wearing a military uniform on the set of something this week. In several photos that made their way online, Perry dons a cropped black wig and fatigues. One shot is of her standing next to male soldiers. Another features her is of her standing in a store. The last photo is of her in a pool with a soldier (still wearing the army garb). According to Perez Hilton , she is shooting the military-themed video at Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. A rep for the base could not confirm reports that she is shooting there when contacted by MTV News. Meanwhile, her rep had not responded to our request for comment by press time. Earlier this week, Perry teased that she was looking forward to hitting the set for the “Part of Me” video. “Holy power of the Grammy’s, Part Of Me is already top 10 on itunes! U guys are killing it! NICE! Can’t wait to shoot this video!” she tweeted on Monday, one day after she debuted the song at the Grammys . The Teenage Dream: Complete Confection song is a bit darker than most Perry fans might be used to. The song is about the dissolution of a relationship, during which Perry sings scathing lines like “Days like this I want to drive away/ Pack bags and watch your shadow fade/ You chewed me up and spit me out like I was poison in your mouth/ You took my life, you drank me down/ But that was then and this is now.” And in what has been taken as a jab at her former hubby, Russell Brand, she adds, “You can keep the diamond ring/ It don’t mean nothing anyway.” What did you think of Katy Perry’s Grammys performance? New single ‘Part of Me,’ which Perry debuted at awards show, has some pretty pointed references to her ex-husband. By Kara Warner Katy Perry performs at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images Although Katy Perry has yet to speak out publicly about her split from husband Russell Brand , she sent a pretty clear message out about her post-breakup emotions via Sundays night’s Grammy performance of new single “Part of Me.” The midtempo pop song — Perry’s next single — features several key phrases that speak to her relationship with Brand and the apparent emotional ups and downs she suffered along the way. “Days like this I want to drive away/ Pack bags and watch your shadow fade/ You chewed me up and spit me out like I was poison in your mouth/ You took my life, you drank me down/ But that was then and this is now.” Perry’s message in the song is one of empowerment and moving on, with lyrics like “This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me,” “You’re not going to break my soul” and “Look at me, I’m a sparkling firework, a dancing flame/ You’ll never put me out again, I’m glowing.” She briefly touches on the ever-present public attention she receives, wanting to throw away her phone and trying to discover who her real friends are. Perry’s most intense lyrics accuse a former lover of deception and a lost innocence, the most obvious Russell reference being a statement about her wedding band: “You can keep the diamond ring, it don’t mean nothing anyway/ In fact, you can keep everything — except for me.” This isn’t the first time Perry has taken to songwriting to express feelings over a public breakup. The Teenage Dream track “Circle the Drain” reportedly presented a powerful picture of her rocky relationship with “Gym Glass Heroes” frontman Travie McCoy: “You fall asleep during foreplay/ ‘Cause the pills you take/ Are more your forte/ I’m not sticking around to watch you go down/ Wanna be your lover/ Not your f—ing mother/ Can’t be your savior/ I don’t have the power/ I’m not gonna stay and watch you circle the drain.” Stick with MTV News all for all the Grammy red-carpet fashion , Grammy winners and performance recaps until the hangover wears off! Singer’s hair colorist tells MTV News that she’s hoping Perry will want to keep her locks blue for the big show. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images is currently rocking turquoise blue hair (after initially shocking the world with a deeper blue hue back in January). Considering she’s not only up for two awards at the Grammy Awards on Sunday but is also hitting the stage for what’s sure to be a colorful, candy-coated performance, Perry could be showing off a completely different hair color this weekend. To get the scoop on what color hair Perry might be donning when she hits the red carpet at the Grammy Awards, we asked her longtime hair colorist, Rita Hazan. “I’m kind of feeling the blue right now, so I’m hoping we’re gonna be on that same page because I really think it’s really hot and it’s working for her,” she told MTV News. “So I’m assuming that we’re going to be staying with the blue for the Grammys, but you never know. “The night before it could be a whole different story,” she continued, laughing. “It depends, maybe she gets a dress she wants to match her hair to, but I feel like she’s going to rock the blue and find a dress to match the hair, which I absolutely love about her.” Hazan and Perry are quite the hair-color scientists. The blue hair was only the latest “vision” the twosome has dreamed up for the always up-for-anything Perry. “The thing with Katy, she has a feeling, she follows her gut, her instinct and she’s very fashion, she’s trendy, but that’s really naturally who she is,” Hazan said. “She doesn’t try to do anything, she just does it and it works for her and I think because she’s such an iconic girl, people just want to copy and do whatever she does. “With Katy, you never know. Between her and myself we get these crazy middle-of-the-night visions,” she continued. “You never know what happens. I just think watch out, something’s going to happen next and I don’t even know what it is.” Perry aside, Hazan thinks that everyone who attends the show is going to step up their game and go all-out when it comes to their hair. “I think that people are going to be a little bit over-the-top and extravagant,” she said. “I don’t think it’s going to be very calm or pretty hair. I think people are going to go for it.” Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions! Coveted nomination follows #1 debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, and a string of well-received mixtapes. By Nadeska Alexis J. Cole Photo: C. Flanigan/FilmMagic It’s been a long road to release for J. Cole, who finally dropped his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, in September after putting out several mixtapes. Now, the Roc Nation signee is seeing his hard work pay off with a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2012 Grammy Awards . Cole World debuted at #1 in September and has sold more than 500,000 copies to date, making it an impressive freshman LP for a rapper. Make no mistake, though, Jermaine Cole’s success has been a long time in the making. After dropping his mixtape The Come Up in 2007, the North Carolina native polished his craft and released The Warm Up two years later, catching the ear of Jay-Z — specifically with the hit single “Lights Please” — and landing himself a record deal at Roc Nation. Even with Hov as his mentor, however, Jermaine continued to push things along with his own solo efforts. His debut album was hit with a series of delays and he made up for the wait by releasing his late 2010 mixtape Friday Night Lights. Between his tapes and a few free-floating singles he’d recorded over the years, Cole had enough material to warrant an opening spot on Rihanna’s Loud Tour in June. When that wrapped, Cole kicked off his Any Given Sunday series in the summer of 2011, which found him releasing new tracks or EPs weekly, leading right into the debut of his first studio album. That persistent grind resulted in noteworthy album sales and a Grammy nomination, which Jay-Z said is well-deserved . “I think it’s great for him, because I’m sure it’s a dream of his. We grew up seeing Michael Jackson, and I’m sure he grew up seeing whatever moment stuck in his mind, so I know it’s great for him to do that,” Hov told MTV News. “I think he’s already won Best New Artist, to me. His journey is what I’m really excited about.” Tune into the Grammys on Sunday on CBS at 8 p.m. ET to see if Cole takes home the award for Best New Artist. His competitors in the category are Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, Bon Iver and the Band Perry. Chaos! Profanity! Wardrobe malfunctions!
