Tamron Hall Nominated To Replace Cosby On Temple University Board

On Tuesday (Oct. 13), Temple University’s 36-member board of trustees will vote on whether to replace Bill Cosby’s seat with NBC correspondent and Today show host Tamron Hall. Cosby vacated the board in December 2014 following renewed allegations of sexually assaulting numerous women for nearly two decades. Board chairman Patrick O’Connor spoke highly of the 1992 Temple graduate, saying that she has the support she needs for approval, according to The Associated Press. While Tamron hasn’t officially been named a board member, she snagged a cover feature on the current issue of Temple Magazine. “I’m the girl who came to Temple never having seen Philadelphia,” Hall said in the feature. “This city gave me my soul. This university gave me my confidence.” [ MadameNoire ] #JusticeOrElse Activists Sing Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” During 20th Anniversary Celebration Of Million Man March … The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is leading hundreds of thousands of activists celebrating the #JusticeOrElse theme aimed at achieving justice for all regardless of creed, class or race. [ MadameNoire ] Tamir Rice Killing Being Justified By Outside Investigators A sharp turn has been taken in the Tamir Rice shooting investigation, and purveyors who seek justice for the slain 12-year-old at the hands of a cop, won’t like the route it is heading in. Nevermind the fact that the cop–gumshoe Tim Loehmann–had previously been declared “unfit” for duty or the 911 dispatcher who deployed the responding officers failed to alert them off all the pertinent details. According to a pair of outside investigators; one retired FBI agent and one prosecutor from Denver; the shooting of the teen who was out playing with a toy gun was a reasonable measure for a threat they determined to be just as reasonable. “We are not reaching any conclusions from these reports,” Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty said in a statement to the Associated Press. “The gathering of evidence continues, and the grand jury will evaluate it all.” [ MadameNoire ] FKA Twigs Has No Aspirations To Be A Part Of Taylor Swift’s Girl Squad [ VibeVixen ] Mariah Carey Performs in China … Forever Egg Foo Yung [ TMZ ] This Is What Broken Windows Policing Looks Like [ HuffingtonPost ] Kanye West Auditions For ‘American Idol’ And Gets A Ticket To Hollywood! Bring Your Bae: First Ever #NetflixAndChill Festival Brings Over 21,000 To Philly This Weekend

Netflix And Chill Festival Brings Thousands To Philly The first ever #NetflixAndChill Festival is set to take over Philly this weekend! Via Independent UK : ‘Netflix and Chill’ has become somewhat of a phenomena. If you’re not aware of the Americanism – probably because you refuse to trawl Reddit and don’t have hip teenage friends – let me enlighten you as to what it means. Their are two primary meanings. The first is pretty obvious – it means to watch Netflix and chill out with your mates. The second, the primary reason the phrase has become such a wide spread meme, is to invite someone from the opposite gender over to, well, um… Even with the risk of a mass ‘Netflix and Chill’ gathering becoming something out of 50 Shades of Grey, that hasn’t stopped the social app Knock Knock (no, we’ve never heard of it either) organising the very first ‘Netflix and Chill Festival’. The highly anticipated event will take place at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on the 25 September and currently has over 21 thousand people attending on Facebook. However, if you want to attend you’ll need to request an invite. Make sure to wrap it up before you #NetFlixAndChill this cuffing season!

Moses Malone Dies; NBA Legend Was 60

Three-time NBA MVP and Basketball Hall of Famer Moses Malone has passed away at the age of 60. His death was confirmed this morning by a statement from the Philadelphia 76ers, whom Malone led to an NBA championship in 1983. No cause of death was given. Over the course of his 20-year career, Malone played for nine teams and was voted into the NBA All-Star game an astonishing 12 times.  Malone led the league in rebounds for five straight seasons, earning him the nickname “Chairman of the Boards.” He remains the NBA’s career leader in offensive rebounds. “It is difficult to express what his contributions to this organization – both as a friend and player – have meant to us, the city of Philadelphia and his faithful fans,” says the statement issued by the 76ers organization. “Moses holds a special place in our hearts and will forever be remembered as a genuine icon and pillar of the most storied era in the history of Philadelphia 76ers basketball. “His generosity, towering personality and incomparable sense of humor will truly be missed. We will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers and as we are once again reminded of the preciousness of life.” Following the death of Daryl Dawkins last month, Malone is the second NBA legend to pass away in the last three weeks. Tributes from fans, former teammates and sports journalists have already begun to pour in on social media. View Slideshow: Celebrities We Lost in 2015

When The Check Stop Coming In: Ex-NFL Star Irving Fryar And Mother Convicted In $1.2 Million Mortgage Scheme

The Former Eagles star and his mother could face up to 10 years each, yikes! This is what  Philly news is reporting: Former Philadelphia Eagles player Irving Fryar and his mother, Allene McGhee, were found guilty Friday of charges of conspiracy and theft by deception stemming from a $1.2 million mortgage scheme that prosecutors said victimized seven lending institutions in South Jersey and Philadelphia in 2009. Fryar, a Pro Bowl wide receiver who retired from the NFL in 2001 after playing for 17 years with four teams, and his mother, a retired school bus driver from Willingboro, showed no emotion as a jury in Mount Holly announced the verdict after more than 11 hours of deliberation. After the jury of nine women and three men was ushered out, McGhee sobbed softly and stayed in her seat for several minutes in apparent shock, as Fryar and two supporters went to hug and console her. Fryar, 52, and McGhee, 74, face a maximum of 10 years in prison when they are sentenced by Superior Court Judge Jeanne T. Covert on Oct. 2.   Seems like Philly has taken a lot of losses this week! We hope their luck turns around.   Splash News
