Lady Gaga Fears Terrorist Attack, Cancels Indonesian Concert

Lady Gaga is so terrified that Islamic terrorists might attack her and/or her mega-concert in Indonesia, she cancelled the upcoming show, her reps confirmed. Gaga’s management team announced today there were major security concerns regarding the June 3 gig in Jakarta, the nation’s capital city. Extremists were calling to ban Gaga , fearing that her risque costumes, song lyrics and embrace of homosexuality would corrupt Muslim youths. The Indonesian Council of Ulema chairman, Cholil Ridwan, fervently urged a boycott, saying Gaga “intends to destroy the nation’s morality.” Security concerns for the concert skyrocketed from such beliefs, so much so the Jakarta police refused to issue the star’s tour a permit. This in spite of the fact that 52,000 tickets had already been sold. Given the current lack of permit, and the rising security threats, Gaga’s team threw in the towel and decided to officially cancel today. Gaga then released a statement Sunday via Twitter saying, “I’m so very sorry to the fans and just as devastated as you if not more.” “You are everything to me. I promise I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown.” The 26-year-old has courted controversy everywhere in Asia. South Korean critics also called for a boycott; She sang in the Philippines amid death threats, and most recently performed and shopped for a fake Rolex in Bangkok. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]

Lupe Fiasco’s ‘T.R.O.Y.’ Remake Is ‘Wack,’ Pete Rock Says

Catch Lupe Fiasco on ‘RapFix Live’ this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Lupe Fiasco Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage When Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth dropped “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” 20 years ago, the celebrated rap duo was still reeling over the unexpected death of their dear friend Troy “Trouble T” Dixon of Heavy D & the Boyz. What began as the most personal of lyrical eulogies soon became an iconic hip-hop track, so when Lupe Fiasco reworked the “T.R.O.Y.” instrumental for his new single “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” on Monday, things were all good until Pete Rock chimed in. “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one,” Rock tweeted on Monday after hearing the track. While Lu’s new single clearly is a nod to “T.R.O.Y,” the original track isn’t exactly an original composition, as it samples from jazz musician Tom Scott’s 1967 song “Today.” It’s possible that “Around My Way,” which was produced by Simonsayz and B-Sidet, sampled a portion of their track from Scott’s version. This isn’t the first time that Lupe has paid homage to Pete Rock either, he once freestyled over the “Reminisce” beat for his “Dopeboys” freestyle with Wale and Kardinal Offishall. Lyrically, Lu continues to push rap’s topical boundaries on “Around My Way,” choosing to rhyme about social-political ills in Ghana and corruption in the oil industry. Rock stressed that he did not have a personal problem with the Chicago rapper, he just didn’t appreciate the remake. “I’m not flattered @ all. Dat sh– is wack, and the producer should be ashamed of his f–kin self. Smh,” he wrote . On Tuesday, Lupe began tweeting links to other “T.R.O.Y.” remakes, including Mann’s J.R. Rotem-produced “Reminisce” and a remixed version of the song which featured Journalist, Mr. Cheeks and Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth themselves. Finally Lupe took the high road and tweeted a YouTube link to the original Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth video with the hash tag “#20YearsLaterStillTheBest.” Catch Lupe Fiasco on this week’s “RapFix Live,” Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Do you side with Pete Rock? Lady Gaga Responds To Islamic Threats Over Show In Indonesia Show

Gaga’s tour promoters are negotiating with government officials for Jakarta concert to go forward despite threats from extremist groups. By John Mitchell Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lady Gaga has responded to the increasingly volatile situation surrounding her “Born This Way” concert in Indonesia, saying on Twitter that she has been asked by authorities to censor her show and has received threats of violence from Islamic hardliners should it go on as planned. Earlier reports indicated that Gaga’s planned June 3 concert at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium had been canceled after Indonesian national police refused to issue a permit, citing objections from Islamic groups who worried that Gaga’s performance would corrupt the nation’s youth. However, Gaga’s tour promoters are currently negotiating with government officials and police for the concert to go forward as planned. “The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show & religious extremist separately, are threatening violence,” Gaga tweeted Tuesday (May 22). “If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone.” Fifty thousand tickets for the show have been sold. While Indonesia is a secular state governed as a multi-party representative democratic republic, it has the world’s largest population of Muslims, most of whom practice a moderate form of the religion. However, there are also more extremist fringe groups that have in recent years become increasingly vocal, particularly regarding Western entertainers visiting the country. Beyonc

Survivor Winner Crowned, New Season Announced

It was ladies night on Survivor: One World yesterday, as five women battled for the $1 million grand prize on the season 24 finale. But – no offense to Chelsea, Sabrina, Alicia or Christina – these final few episodes have really been all about Kim Spradlin, who dominated as few before her have, earning the votes of the contest-filled jury AND the $100,000 reward as the Fan Favorite. The only question isn’t whether Kim deserved to win it all, but where she now ranks among all-time Survivor greats such as Boston Rob ( Survivor: Redemption Island ), Brian Heidik ( Survivor: Thailand ) and Tom Westman ( Survivor: Palau )? Jeff Probst, meanwhile, announced that season 25 would take Survivor to the Philippines, where three previous contestants who left their editions early due to injury will return. Ultra Music Festival’s ‘Best Of Bass’ Pre-Party: Smog Vs. Basshead

Miami’s Mekka hosts 12th Planet, Pendulum, Drop the Lime and more. By Akshay Bhansali 12th Planet Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images MIAMI — Nestled in a series of rooms at Mekka downtown, Smog vs. Basshead, a party conceived by bass-music champions from L.A. and Miami, on Thursday night again realized a frenzied hands-in-the-air steamfest. For the third year in a row, hundreds of partygoers screamed their lungs out, pumping their arms to the warbles and drum and bass. For all the talk of dubstep and drum and bass being mostly underground, judging by the event’s attendance, the genre is booming — and pioneers like 12th Planet (born John Dadzie), a 13-year California bass veteran and Smog label head, couldn’t be prouder. “It started off as a party at the White Room, and Basshead is a label based out of Miami,” 12th explained to MTV News after his set. “The label actually put out my first dubstep release, so we were kind of always routed together, and we just decided to join forces because, being from California, it’s hard to break into other markets. “We got the opportunity to work in Miami, and the first show was a hit. And the second show, last year, was the biggest Smog vs. Basshead. And then this year, just as many people. So, I’m totally excited — totally stoked.” The world SVB creates bears a comparison to the large-scale EDM event taking place a few blocks away. While the bass get-together might not reach the scale of the Ultra Music Festival , a variety of artists gathered for a series of fiery performances, taking fans into day-break. “It’s just five room of bass — straight up!” 12th proclaimed. SVB featured 16bit, Noah D, Flinch, Jaun Basshead and more. U.K. bass aggregator, feeder and video-sharing community UKF boasted a Pendulum DJ set, Zeds Dead and Kaon Sound. The Trouble & Bass room had Drop the Lime, AC Slater and Toddla T. The Metalheadz room was headlined by Goldie & Bailey. “All these guys making great, great music. We even had Foreign Beggars come down,” 12th said about his former tourmates, an electronic hip-hop collective that recently caught the eye of deadmau5. “They’ve never even played in Florida. I think that is the appeal of this party: You are going to hear the best of bass music.” Miami Music Week is going down, and MTV News is on the ground! Is Fergie Working On A Solo Or Black Eyed Peas Album?

‘My brain’s not really there right now,’ Fergie tells MTV News of her musical hiatus. By Christina Garibaldi Fergie of Black Eyed Peas Photo: MTV News The Black Eyed Peas have certainly been enjoying their much-deserved break. Back in November, BEP announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus following three years on the road in support of their albums The Beginning and The E.N.D. MTV News caught up with Fergie on Thursday (March 22) in New York, and she couldn’t be happier being off the road and spending some time at home. “I love being on break. I’m getting to do things I really didn’t have the capacity to do on tour,” Fergie said at the Voli Light Vodka Brunch. “I get more structure at home, I get more time with family, with my husband, with my dogs. I’m still cleaning out my closet, getting to decorate my house, just nesting. I love it.” Fergie has been keeping herself busy, though. Even though she won’t be a judge on “The X Factor,” the singer is set to release her third fragrance and is working on her shoe line. “I’m more focusing on my other things, like my shoe line, I’m designing for that. I’m really getting to work from home, and I’m loving it,” Fergie said. “Having all these creative juices flowing into more girly things and visual and things like that for me.” The last time the Peas took a break, Fergie released her first solo album, The Dutchess. The album produced three #1 singles: “London Bridge,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Glamorous.” Yet this time around, Fergie isn’t very eager to have the spotlight all to herself. “I’m always writing, but there’s no current plans for a solo record or a Black Eyed Peas record. I was on tour for eight years. My brain’s not really there right now,” Fergie said. “It’s kind of just a machine that kept on moving with no signs of stopping. Finally, it’s break time.” The other members of the Black Eyed Peas have been keeping busy on personal projects as well, will.i.am is continuing to work on his next solo album, #WillPower, and will make an appearance on Justin Bieber ‘s upcoming album, Believe. Taboo is working on his own solo project and heading overseas for the Ultramagnetic DJ Experience tour, and apl.de.ap will reportedly focus on being an education ambassador in the Philippines. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry and fan Eric Berlanger on the set of her Adidas commercial Photo: Splash News Online While Katy Perry was missing in action at Wednesdays People’s Choice Awards , where she won five prizes, the pop star was spotted on the set of an Adidas commercial in California this week. A photograph of Perry , who happened to be wearing the new Adidas Originals X Jeremy Scott collection, posing with fan Eric Berlanger first appeared on the It’s Just Roxie Tumblr page before going viral. It marks the first time that the pop singer has been photographed after her husband Russell Brand filed for divorce New Year’s weekend. The last time she was photographed was in the days leading up to the announcement, when she was in Hawaii on vacation without Brand. “It was great to see her. I met her a couple times before,” Berlanger told UsMagazine.com of hanging with Perry on the Santa Barbara shoot (the singer hails from the SoCal town). “I am a big fan! She was great, really nice. She seemed happy.” As Perry settles back into public life after her split from Brand, she has also resumed her usual cat tweeting ways. On Thursday (January 12), she only wrote “meow,” before posting a photo of her cat Kitty Purry. As the Grammy Awards approach, it seems like fans will see more of the colorful singer . Perry is up for two awards at the February 12 show, and she is scheduled for two concerts later this month, one in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another in the Philippines. “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world,” she wrote a week after Brand filed for divorce in her first comments about the split . “You guys have made my heart happy again.” What do you think of Katy Perry’s blue hair?
