On Saturday, she took to Twitter to open up publicly for the first time since the split. “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world,” she wrote. “You guys have made my heart happy again.” In another tweet minutes later, she addressed the tabloid chatter that has been swirling around since Brand filed for divorce in Los Angeles on December 30. “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me,” she said, “Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.” See a timeline of Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s relationship. The tweets come days before Perry is set to make her first public appearance at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday [January 11] where she’s up for a number of awards. The People’s Choice Awards marks the beginning of a slew of expected appearances from the singer. She’s also slated to make two appearances on her California Dreams Tour later this month, one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in the Philippines. Perry’s next awards show appearance could take place February 12 at the Grammys, where she’s up for two awards: Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” Brand released a statement at the time of the announcement, saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. Jeremy Renner ‘Not Injured’ In Bar Fight

A rep disputes a report to MTV News that the ‘Mission Impossible’ actor was injured in Thailand. By Jocelyn Vena Jeremy Renner Photo: Getty Images “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol” star Jeremy Renner is just fine. Despite previous reports, the actor’s rep confirmed to MTV News that he was not injured in a bar fight in Thailand. “Jeremy was there [but] was not involved,” a rep for the actor told MTV News. “When a fight broke out, he exited [and] was not injured.” The Phuket Gazette reports that Renner had been hanging out at the Rachada Pub in Phuket Town when six employees stabbed and injured two local men, Sri Panwa Resort General Manager Vorasit Issara and Maj Gen Chonasit, early Wednesday. The newspaper further reports that Renner had been in their company, along with Vorasit’s driver, Noppadon Preechawai, and several other friends. The Gazette originally reported that Renner had been injured in the scuffle. Prior to arriving at Rachada Pub, the group had also been spotted at two other local hotspots, KorTorMor Pub and another club near Royal Phuket City Hotel. The six men are currently being held by local authorities and addressed the media at a press conference on Thursday. The pub where the incident occurred has since been shut down for six months because it violated a local curfew. Renner has been in Manila, Philippines filming “The Bourne Legacy,” the actor’s rep said. He recently opened up to MTV News about filming “Legacy” and filling in the spot left vacant by the franchise’s longtime star, Matt Damon. “He’s always been so complimentary to me from the moment I met him. ‘Jersey Shore’ Stars Say Season Five Shows ‘Lighter Side’

New season, which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV, finds the ‘Shore’ gang getting back to basics. By James Montgomery Ronnie, Mike “The Situation,” Vinny, and Pauly D of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV News If there’s an underlying plotline to the fifth season of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” — which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. — it may very well be “There’s no place like home.” That’s according to the “Shore” stars themselves, who told MTV News that, unlike their Italian holiday, the new season of the show is short on infighting, head-butting, vehicular mishaps, ill-fated hookups, malicious dog-poop capers and drama of all varieties and long on what they’ve come to be known for — namely, partying. “You’re gonna see a lighter side of us in Jersey,” Ronnie assured us. “We have a lot more fun as compared to Italy. People were fighting, running heads into walls, bottles being thrown — it was just a lot of drama. Jersey is going to be a lot more fun.” “You’ll actually see how much we miss Jersey. We missed it so much, we just hit the ground running,” added Pauly D, who’s already gone on record as saying season five is his “best.” “The second we got back from Italy, we went straight to Jersey and just had fun with it.” Part of that fun involved getting back to basics — the kinds of things that were tough to come by in Italy and core tenets that any and all “Jersey Shore” fanatics know by heart. “Stuff you take for granted on a day-to-day basis, that’s what we wanted to do,” Pauly said. “Haircut, gym, tanning … Vinny was cutting our hair.” “We wanted easy girls,” Vinny added with a laugh. Lacroix/ WireImage Days after it was announced that Katy Perry and Russell Brand are ending their marriage comes word that the pop star plans to attend next week’s People’s Choice Awards . In a Wednesday (January 4) press release , Perry’s attendance was announced alongside Ashley Greene, Nina Dobrev, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence, to name a few. This will mark Perry’s first scheduled appearance since news broke that she and Brand are getting divorced. The show will take place January 11 in Los Angeles, airing live on CBS. The singer is up for seven awards, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist and Song of the Year for “E.T.” Perry hasn’t spoken about the split since the holiday announcement ; however, the People’s Choice Awards marks the beginning of a slew of expected appearances from the singer. She’s also slated to make two appearances on her California Dreams Tour later this month on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another January 22 in the Philippines. Perry’s next awards-show appearance could take place February 12 at the Grammys, where she’s up for two awards : Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” Brand released a statement at the time of the announcement, saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” Shortly after the announcement, he was spotted in London and the U.K.’s Mirror reports that when a fan wished him a “Happy New Year,” he responded, “Here’s hoping it gets happier.” Friends tell People magazine they were “shocked” the kooky twosome split after only a year of marriage. “I was really surprised that Russell filed for divorce so quickly — especially at Christmastime,” the source said. “I thought they would be together for a long time. Maybe not forever — but definitely not just 14 months.” The source added that despite the trouble, “They were always laughing. They were very affectionate, always holding hands. Katy Perry Gets Over A Bad Boy On Leaked Track

By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry and Russell Brand Photo: Eric Ryan/ Getty Images Katy Perry and Russell Brand have been keeping low profiles since Friday’s divorce announcement, but on a brand-new song that just hit the Net, Perry sings about falling for the wrong guy. The song, which Perry co-wrote, is actually a demo version of the Jessie James track “Bullet.” While the song has many country music flourishes thanks to twangy guitars, the lyrics — minus references to cowboy boots and country accents — work for Perry. She opens with the lines: “My mama warned me about boys like you/ It’s the reason I wear these high-heeled boots/ And let me give you a little piece of advice/ My papa packs heat and he won’t think twice.” And the song’s big chorus is signature Perry. On the sing-along refrain, Perry belts out, “I’m a bullet and I’m headed/ Straight for your heart/ Be careful what you start/ I’m a bullet and I’m headed/ Straight for your heart/ It’s gonna leave a mark.” Although the song eventually landed on James’ 2009 self-titled debut, the timing of the leak coincides with the news of Perry’s split from comedian Brand after a little more than a year. Brand was spotted in his native England on Saturday, one day after the news broke of their breakup, while Perry, who has yet to speak about the split, is slated to perform at two concerts this month: one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in Manila, in the Philippines. When MTV News spoke to some experts about Perry and Brand’s breakup , they noted that the divorce didn’t come as a surprise to them. “From the get-go, I thought they were a sort of odd, mismatched pair,” David Caplan, a celebrity news editor who has worked at publications including People and Star, told us. “She’s so glamorous, pop and sexy, and he is diametrically not like that. He’s a nice and funny guy, and from my encounters with her, I found her to be funny, have a sarcastic edge and a blast, but they weren’t a match. Ivian Sarcos, who once said her dream was to be a nun when she was young, has taken quite a different path. A sexy path. She was just crowned Miss World! Think about that, the most beautiful woman on this entire PLANET. Sarcos, Miss Venezuela, beat out beauties from around the world. Here’s her moment, winning the title Sunday night in London … Also known as Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares, the 21-year-old currently works for a broadcasting company, where she was no doubt hired for her expertise. Just kidding, we’re sure she’s talented. But come on, have you seen her? She aspires to work for non-governmental organizations and children. Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, was named the runner-up, and Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, came in third. Congratulations to all who participated.
