T.I. Releasing ‘Pledge Allegiance To The Swag’ To ‘The Streets’ This Week

‘Don’t look for it on radio, but online and in the streets and in the clubs,’ rapper says. By Shaheem Reid T.I. Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images T.I. has only gone Hollywood when it comes to films, not his music. Tinseltown’s current box-office champ says we can expect a brand-new record from his King Uncaged LP this week. He’s going to growing it from the ground up. “My next song … I’m not even sending it to radio first,” he explained Monday. “I’m going to work it from the streets to the clubs. Then as DJs ask about it, I’ll deliver it to them. I’m gonna go all the way back to grassroots. I feel that people right now feel I’m going so far over their heads, given my prior success with Paper Trail. They feel like I’m trying to leave my foundation and my demographic behind, which is far from my intention.” The King of the South’s new song should land in the next couple of days or so. “Probably this week — don’t look for it on radio, but online and in the streets and in the clubs, you can look forward to a record. A record called ‘Pledge Allegiance to the Swag,’ he added. “I’m just trying to feed the streets right now.” And the Net. Tip has a slew of viral videos dropping soon with his various Grand Hustle acts. “We just shot three videos,” T.I. said. “We just shot the Young Dro ‘Freeze Me’ video with me, him and Gucci Mane. We shot the ‘Get Your Girl’ video with me and my artist and lil’ cousin, Rich Kid Shawty [Rashad]. We shot that in Atlanta. We also shot the video for ‘Ya Hear Me?’ Those videos will be completed and surfacing online within the next week or so.” Over the weekend, T.I.’s latest film, “Takers,” grabbed the top spot in a tooth-and-nail dogfight for number one with “The Last Exorcism.” As he told us a few weeks ago, with the film being a success, a prequel to the action thriller is very likely. “I just got off the phone with the director and the writer of ‘Takers,’ he revealed. “Also with the heads of Screen Gems. We’re working on not a sequel, but the prequel to ‘Takers,’ telling how the guys came to meet one another and how the relationships developed. Pretty much telling the story before [my character] went [to jail].” Related Artists T.I.

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Drops The Day He’s Released From Prison

Wayne will also headline a homecoming concert the same day, says YM president Mack Maine. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Lil Wayne’s Young Money army are loading up and getting ready to unleash a wave of new music towards the end of this year and next year. The youngest of the Young Money crew, Lil Twist and Lil Chuckee, are working the Net and the mixtape circuit, as are Jae Millz and Gudda Gudda. Tyga, who’s performing shows in South Africa this week, just dropped a video for his Lil Wayne-featured “I’m On It,” and of course, his Chris Brown collaboration “Deuces” is an undeniable people-propelled hit. The record was a mixtape song, but through requests and video play on MTV Jams and “106 & Park,” it’s become a number-one hit. Young Money president Mack Maine says that Tyga has an official second single coming soon and is hoping the company releases his album before 2010 is over. If not, look for Tyga at the top of 2011. The biggest Young Money releases this year, of course, are coming courtesy of the leader of the family, Lil Wayne. Weezy has a 10-song project called I Am Not a Human Being that will be released digitally on his birthday, September 27. YM has tentative plans to come right back with more Weezy on November 5. That album, of course, will be his

Nikki Reed Gushes About ‘Twilight’ Co-Stars’ Upcoming Projects

‘We all root for each other,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Nikki Reed Photo: MTV News Ever since the first “Twilight” film was released — kicking off the phenomenon that has included record-breaking box-office numbers, fainting fans, megawatt premieres, etc. — the suddenly superstar cast has been catapulted into a spotlight none of them saw coming. As such, the actors are very much in demand and currently working on a number of projects. When Nikki Reed stopped by MTV News recently to discuss her film “Last Day of Summer,” we asked her which of her co-stars’ upcoming films she’s most excited to see. “All of them,” she said. “I love Taylor [Lautner] so much, and I’m so proud of him and what he’s doing. He’s making a great movie in Pittsburgh right now,” she said, referring to the John Singleton-directed action thriller “Abduction.” “I’m excited about Rob [Pattinson]’s movie ‘Water for Elephants,’ ” she added. “I think he’s going to be phenomenal in that, and Kristen [Stewart] is doing an amazing film [‘On the Road’]. Elizabeth Reaser just did a movie called ‘Homework’ with Michael Angarano, who’s a really good friend of mine, and Emma Roberts that I’m excited about.” Reed and her co-stars have so many projects going that she was hard-pressed to remember everyone’s work schedule. “We all root for each other,” she said. Speaking of which, the multi-talented and multi-tasking actress, who recently directed Sage’s music video for “Edie Sedgwick,” lit up at our question about whether she would consider directing a music video for her co-star Jackson Rathbone’s band, 100 Monkeys. “Would I ever! Jackson and I are on the phone every other day, because we’re trying to find a movie to do together. I forgot to mention him — his band is skyrocketing. It’s amazing,” she gushed. “I would be honored. I don’t want to take the position: ‘Would I ever.’ If he would ever let me, yeah. I love them.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Wyclef Jean Laments Failed Haitian Presidential Bid In Song

‘Prizon for the CEP’ goes back and forth between English and Creole. By Gil Kaufman Wyclef Jean (file) Photo: PictureGroup Wyclef Jean is protesting his exclusion from the upcoming presidential election in Haiti the only way he knows how: by releasing a song. The former Fugees leader posted a new track called “Prizon Pou K.E.P.A.” (which translates into “Prison for the CEP”) on Wednesday, in which he compares the rigorous scrutiny he faced to a child receiving a failing report card. The title is a pointed reference to the Haitian election commission, CEP, which ruled that he was not eligible to run for office in his birth nation. “I am contesting, I am going to the court, I am contesting/ I don’t agree, I am contesting, I am going to the court, I am contesting,” Wyclef sings. “Look, they gave Wyclef a report card/ They say Wyclef, you don’t speak Creole/ You are the Diaspora’s candidate.” Over a subtle, skittering beat and gently picked acoustic guitar, ‘Clef, 40, sings about his disappointment in the ruling in the island’s native language of Creole. “Even my own Haitians curse me out on Facebook when they hear I want to be president,” he says before calling out former bandmate Pras for the Fugees member’s negative reaction to Wyclef’s attempts. “Even my friends say to give Wyclef a report card/ Even the Catholic priests are surprised, they told me to leave Tigoav, come to Les Cayes/ All weekend I was celebrating Our Lady [Notre Dame].” His tone is sedate and conversational for most of the tune, but at just past the two-minute mark, he breaks into a Bob Marley-like wail, during which his vocals take on a pained, urgent quaver. The decision to pour out his heart in Creole in the nearly four-minute song is a pointed bid to speak directly to the Haitian people, as well as a possible winking rebuke to actor Sean Penn , who wrote a stinging column for the Huffington Post this week questioning ‘Clef’s motives in his failed presidential bid, as well as his fluency in the island nation’s two main languages: French and Creole. Jean has pointed words for the nation’s current president as well, Ren

Taylor Swift’s ‘Mine’ Reflects On One Of Her Crushes

New single about ‘a boy I liked at a certain time,’ says singer. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift in her “Mine” video Photo: Big Machine Records Forget Drew, the inspiration for “Teardrops On My Guitar” or Joe Jonas, who sparked “Forever & Always.” . When Taylor Swift sat down to write her latest hit song, “Mine,” she had a different dude, who remains a mystery, on the brain. “I was reflecting back on a boy I liked at a certain time,” she told Rolling Stone about the tune, which will appear on her forthcoming album Speak Now . “The song is about what it would be like if I actually let my guard down.” Speak Now comes out on October 25, and Swift is bracing for the onslaught of craziness that will ensue as the drop date nears. But she loves the chaos. “I’m obsessed with being busy. It’s hectic and nonstop,” she said. “But I’m so ready.” What Swift wasn’t ready for was “Mine” leaking online earlier this month . After its early arrival, the song was rushed to radio and iTunes and subsequently debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Swift admits that while she appreciated the overwhelmingly positive response to the track, she in no way was expecting it to be released prematurely. “[My manager] said, ‘I don’t want you to panic.’ And I said, ‘The song leaked, didn’t it?'” she said. “I turned on my phone and there were texts saying, ‘Congratulations.’ A leak is so out of my comfort zone, but it ended up good in the end. It made me so emotional that I started crying.” The video for “Mine” premieres this Friday (August 27) at 8:30 p.m. ET on MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com. Are you excited for Taylor Swift’s new album? Dr. Frank Ryan’s Fatal Crash Reignites Texting-While-Driving Debate

‘It has stopped being an oddity when we hear that someone was texting and has a wreck,’ an emergency physician tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Dr. Frank Ryan Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images In a case of multitasking gone horribly wrong, plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Ryan was apparently sending out a tweet before his car fell off a cliff Monday. The surgeon, best known for performing several surgeries on “The Hills” starlet Heidi Montag, was apparently typing about his border collie before his Jeep Wrangler plummeted from Malibu’s Pacific Coast Highway. The accident demonstrates the very real danger of texting or tweeting while driving, an activity that has reportedly spiked in recent years. “I hear, almost daily, accounts of people who are injured while texting,” said Dr. Angela Gardner, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians . Gardner, who is also an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, told MTV News that sometimes, linking an accident to texting is difficult if the phone is destroyed or tossed from the scene of the incident. However, Gardner did say texting-related accidents are becoming commonplace. “[There is] definitely an uptick and a noticeable one,” she said. “It has stopped being an oddity when we hear that someone was texting and has a wreck. Now it’s more of a fairly common occurrence.” While sending out a status update during a leisurely drive may seem innocuous, Gardner said it only takes a moment for distracted drivers to become vulnerable. “There’s two things [that can lead to accidents]: The obvious one is that one hand is off the wheel if you’re holding a phone. The other thing is that, as fast or as good as you are at texting, it still takes that microsecond of looking away from the road, and that microsecond is when accidents occur,” Gardner said. “The theory is that people look away for a minute, and then they realize the car is going off the road, and they jerk the car back. It’s the compensation movement that can cause a car to roll over.” Several states have laws in place curtailing cell phone use while driving, and many, including, where Ryan died, have outright bans on texting while on the road. A 2009 study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute revealed that truck drivers were more than 20 times as likely to be involved in a crash while texting. The study indicated that sending messages in particular was significantly more dangerous than dialing or talking on the phone. “People don’t realize — and it’s not just young people, it’s everyone with a cell phone — that moment that you look away from your phone is the moment it could take to have a wreck,” Gardner said. Gardner noted that people often have an “irresistible urge” to respond to a text or tweet but offered a straightforward suggestion for drivers who feel tempted to type while still on the road. “My advice is put the phone away,” Gardner said. “Put it in your pocket, put it in your purse. Put it away until you’re done with your trip.”
