‘The Expendables’ Arsenal: A Weapon-By-Weapon Guide

Weapons supervisor Kent Johnson leads us through the biggest, baddest arms from the action hit. By Adam Rosenberg Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone in “The Expendables” Photo: Millennium Films Sylvester Stallone proved that his action star still burns brightly with the box-office-winning performance of “The Expendables,” which he wrote, directed and starred in. The veteran of action classics like “First Blood” and “Demolition Man” ceded some screen time in this latest outing to action stars of yesterday and today, particularly the core “Expendables” team of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. As impressive as that lineup is, the collected firepower of the group is what makes them really scary. Just try to identify some of those guns and blades in the heat of combat — it’s impossible. So MTV News got on the phone with Kent Johnson, property master and weapons supervisor for “The Expendables,” to get the inside scoop on who used what and why. For those who haven’t seen the movie, spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned. Handguns and Revolvers Stallone actually makes use of three handguns in the movie: a pair of semi-automatic pistols and a more traditional six-shooter, the sort that you’d see in a Western — only far more dangerous-looking. Johnson identified the pistols as custom-made Kimber Gold Combat IIs. “It’s a .45 [caliber],” Johnson said. “Kimber put them together for us. Sly wanted something a little bit different, a little more unique, a little more of an individual style, so we were able to make the body of the gun a little darker with black grips and little chrome pieces on it. Just very subtle, to make it more personal.” As anyone who’s seen the movie knows, Stallone fires those twin pistols at a remarkable rate. According to Johnson, that’s perfectly realistic and all based on the skill of the shooter, who in this case is one of the most accomplished action stars of the past 30 years. “A gun will fire as quick as you let the gun work, because it’s a gas-activated gun — meaning the gas in the chamber causes the recoil — which causes everything to work in the gun and the next shell coming up. So as fast as you could possibly pull the trigger is how fast that gun will.” Compare that to Sly’s revolver, which is an “1873 six-shooter with a 3-inch barrel” seen in the first and last scenes of the movie. “It’s a single-action gun, which means it won’t cock, it won’t fire like [the Kimbers], where you just pull the trigger and it’ll go bang, click, bang, click. With a single-action, you have to pull the hammer back,” Johnson explained. “[Stallone] was using it like the old Western style, like a fanner-type gun. What it is, is you have your finger on the trigger pulled at all times, and you fire and rotate, fire and rotate, by pulling the hammer back on the gun [and then letting it go], which is what a lot of quick-draw and fast-draw artists [do].” Shotguns and Rifles As cool as Sly’s paired pistols are, the undisputed star weapon of the movie is Hale Caesar’s (Terry Crews) automatic shotgun, an “MPS AA-12 Sledgehammer.” The weapon itself is a beastly thing, capable of laying down rapid-fire shotgun blasts. What makes it a force to be reckoned with in “The Expendables” however is the ammo that Caesar fills it with, which he describes in great detail during one particular scene. Said Johnson: “It has fins and it explodes before it hits the target. … It’s like a little missile, a little ground-to-air missile. You could load a shotgun shell with a solid pellet, you could load it with birdshot, you could load it with buckshot, you could load it with all different things. The way we did it [in ‘The Expendables’] was, basically, [we built it] to take down buildings, and it does. In real life, this shotgun would do pretty close to what you see on the screen.” Even more frightening is the idea that such a destructive bit of firepower exists. It does, Johnson said — sort of. “There’s something like that that does exist, yeah. We basically made up our own shell, but we copied one that was a prototype that is in development for the military.” A range of assault rifles are also on display in the movie, though the climactic battle is highlighted by two in particular. First, you have the bad guys, led by David Zayas’ General Garza. “All of Garza’s military guys we had [equipped] with AK-47s,” Johnson revealed. “Which is the right gun, [because], basically, they work all the time. So the AK-47, which is the old traditional standard workhorse, versus our boys with their modern weaponry.” In the case of the Expendables, “modern weaponry” is one tactical assault rifle in particular: the Noveske N4. “In the real world, it’s high-tactical, more in Europe than the States. It’s a high-caliber, it’s a very uniquely balanced weapon, a close-quarters weapon. It’s short and has a lot of firepower,” Johnson said. As with most of the other weapons on display in the movie, the N4 was Stallone’s pick. “He liked the look; it works off of rail systems, so we were able to put smaller but better sights on it, we were able to put better scopes on it. Visually, it was just a better, more futuristic-but-contemporary look without getting into silver [plating] or other crazy things, it’s just a real kick-ass weapon.” The Sharpened Blade Not all of the weapons in “The Expendables” go boom. Some slice through the air with nary a sound. Dolph Lundgren’s Gunner Jensen and Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas both make notable use of bladed weapons. “[Lundgren’s] Bowie knife … that was a Gil Hibbons. That’s the knife that Gunner gives Christmas [at the beginning of the movie]. “Gil Hibbons made a custom knife for us, for Sly. He and Sly have worked throughout the years together,” Johnson continued. “It was a white-bone handle and had the Expendables logo, the same logo that was on the motorcycles. It’s a traditional Bowie knife, but he custom-made it for us for the movie. The design was Gil’s, but he [used] some subtleties in the handle, very small little subtle things to make it a unique piece.” Then there’s Statham’s Christmas, who excels at killing silently from a distance with his throwing knives. “That was director’s choice on the [throwing] knives to have a little ring at the top so [Statham] could flip them and do different things,” Johnson explained. “We worked in different ways on making [Statham’s draw look right]. We went from a shoulder draw to a hip draw to kind of like a gun draw almost. That’s pretty much what we ended up with, where we had the three knives on each side of his hips. “That was the director’s idea in working with Jason, what made him feel comfortable and made him feel like he could be as quick as anybody with a gun with that knife. You’ve got to be able to get that knife and then be able to get the second one and the third one. He always carried at least six knives with him at all times when he was in his combat gear.” Finding the Right Weapons for the Job With all the killing force detailed above, the obvious question is: Where does it all come from? Johnson, being the man who makes it all happen, has the answer. “There’s different prop rental houses and different weapon rental people. I’ll work with the director and what his vision is for the movie, and basically I’ll go out and bring him an assortment of guns. Sly’s even gone to the gun room, multiple times, where he wanted to look at things,” Johnson said. He’s worked on Stallone projects since 1989’s “Tango & Cash,” and on “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Death Wish II,” “The Final Countdown” and others before that. “There’s one shop that I work with extensively called Independent Studio Service. They’re in Sun Valley, California, and they have the biggest weaponry [selection] probably in the world for the movie business,” he said. The guns themselves are the other key to the puzzle. These are all actual weapons that have been converted for prop use, though in most cases converting them back to live weapons is possible. Some of them still are live weapons; they’re simply loaded with blanks. “A gun with blank ammo, all you’re doing is making the gun think it’s firing a bullet,” Johnson explained. “They’re all real guns, they all have been modified to shoot blanks. Sly’s 3-inch 1873 six-shooter that he had in the small of his back, you could put live rounds in that gun and fire that gun because it’s a non-plugged gun. Non-plugged meaning, when you fire a semi-automatic or a full automatic, you actually plug the barrel of the gun and control the amount of gas that stays there to make the gun think that it’s shooting a live round out. “So you’re fooling the gun. All of these guns that are converted for studio use can be converted back to live fire.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Expendables.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Babysitter Says She Saw Mel Gibson Flip Out

Mel Gibson apparently freaked out the day Oksana Grigorieva says he hit her. While a babysitter didn’t see an attack, she witnessed a meltdown prior to it. The babysitter for Mel and Oksana was front and center for the beginning of the January 6 fight which Oksana says ended in Gibson punching her in the face. Their baby daughter Lucia, now eight months, was also hurt in the attack, Oksana claims. Mel, via his attorneys, has denied any physical assault happened. In the hours before the incident occurred that day, Oksana went to a basketball game. Mel, Lucia and a babysitter were by themselves at his Malibu home. According to TMZ, the babysitter says Mel ” began freaking out ” while Oksana was gone, “slamming doors, cussing and screaming at someone on the phone.” What sent Mel Gibson through the roof on Jan. 6 and Feb. 18? The babysitter says Mel was screaming to someone on the phone, “I want to f*%king destroy you.” It’s not clear who the recipient of that threat was/is. Remember, this is not when the shocking Mel Gibson meltdown, during which he threatens Oksana and Lucia , was recorded by her on various phone calls. That was February 18 . On January 6, the sitter called Oksana, urging her to come home because of the actor’s behavior, saying “Mel was possessed and completely out of control.” The babysitter was present when Oksana returned home but left before any violence occurred – if it even occurred at all, depending on who you believe. Other sources are questioning the sitter’s claims, because – similar to the alleged abuse photo Oksana produced – they never surfaced until right now. On the flip side, people connected with the babysitter say she didn’t come forward because she’s fearful of Mel and is currently fighting stage 4 cancer.

George Stephanopoulos’s Wife On CNN: ‘Is Monogamy Killing Your Marriage?’

“Tonight – is monogamy killing marriage? If you let your spouse stray, will they stay? Rethinking wedded bliss in the 21st century.” Believe it or not, that’s how “Larry King Live” began on CNN Tuesday. Filling in for King was Ali Wentworth, comedienne, actress, and wife of ABC’s George Stephanopoulos who in February did a striptease on the set of “Good Morning America” for her husband’s 49th birthday. The topic of discussion Tuesday: “Should couples have open relationships and disclose affairs? Could letting your man sleep with another woman actually help your relationship?” In case you were wondering, the following aired at 9PM EDT (video follows with transcript and commentary): ALI WENTWORTH, GUEST HOST: Tonight – is monogamy killing marriage? If you let your spouse stray, will they stay? Rethinking wedded bliss in the 21st century. Then sharks in the water. One attacks and shreds the arm of a swimmer in Florida. Great whites are spotted off the coast of Cape Cod. They’re lurking, look out. Next, on LARRY KING LIVE. Good evening, I’m Ali Wentworth sitting in for Larry. He’s on vacation. I’m very excited about this show tonight because it’s two of my biggest fears. A great white shark attacking me or my husband cheating. Now if you’ve ever been in a relationship you’ll want to stay right here because we are talking about monogamy. It’s been a hot topic on CNN.com all day. Should couples have open relationships and disclose affairs? Could letting your man sleep with another woman actually help your relationship? Well, that’s what we’re going to ask our guests tonight. Bethenny Frankel is here. She’s a star of Bravo’s “Bethenny Getting Married.” She tied the knot in March. Congratulations. BETHENNY FRANKEL, ACTRESS, BRAVO’S “BETHENNY GETTING MARRIED”: Thank you. WENTWORTH: Holly Hill is the author of “Sugarbabe.” She says women should negotiate infidelity with their husbands. And Sarah Symonds is an author and infidelity analyst. Hello, women, and welcome to a hot topic. Infidelity. I want to — I want to first ask, have any of you been cheated on? FRANKEL: Yes. I was cheated on. His — he had a girlfriend while he was — well, he was actually sleeping with her. I was his girlfriend. And she called me in the middle of the night at about 2:00 in the morning and said, can I speak to Michael? I guess he’s going to be listening. Hi, Michael. Hi, can I speak to Michael, and I said, who is this? And she said, I’m his girlfriend. And we hung up the phone and I waited two hours and I star 69’d her so I can call her back and get all the details. WENTWORTH: And she gave you all the details? FRANKEL: And she gave me the details. You need the details. WENTWORTH: Well, you always need the details. Now, Holly — Holly Hill author of “Sugarbabe,” you actually think that’s OK. You think that if you negotiate fidelity with your spouse or lover that actually makes for a long and successful relationship. Am I right? HOLLY HILL, SAYS WOMEN SHOULD LET MEN CHEAT: Yes. Absolutely. And those details that we talk about, if you’re meeting the women that your partner is being with, you’re not building her up to be some kind of supermodel in your head. And we always want to know the details. And the best way to get the details is ask her out for coffee and be adult about what is a very educated and natural thing to be doing. FRANKEL: See, I think that was a low point in my relationship, in my life to be talking to that girl. It really had nothing to do with her. I was in the wrong relationship because I was with someone who was cheating. And I think that negotiating within your relationship about being allowed to cheat is absurd. WENTWORTH: You know, Holly, it’s one of the things that I — I’m married. And one of the things that I think of in my marriage is that, you know, I can go to my girlfriends for emotional support or my shrink, and there are other venues where I can sort of get what I want. But I feel that marriage, the one thing I have with my husband, which is sacred, is a sexual physical relationship. Otherwise, why be married? HILL: I guess the only reason it’s sacred is because it’s — there’s old-fashioned rules that we’re obeying. And if you want to have a lifetime relationship with someone — which is what we all want — it’s about negotiating things within their nature and their biology. WENTWORTH: Now, Sarah, you say that — you started a fantastic Web site, MistressesAnonymous. But you’re not saying that that’s a good thing. This is really a support group for a lot of women that have been brokenhearted because they had an affair with a married man or wanted to be with a married man. Am I right? SARAH SYMONDS, AUTHOR & INFIDELITY ANALYST: Absolutely. And first of all, hi, Ali, thanks for having me on. Hi, ladies. I can absolutely resonate with Holly, I’ve been through certain, you know, similar experiences that she has. But I have to say, if you are negotiating with somebody you probably are in the wrong relationship. Anything that needs that much negotiation probably isn’t right and you should get out of it. And that’s who my Web site is about, that’s what my support group is about. It’s called MistressesAnonymous, which is like Alcoholics Anonymous. But in my group we can drink, and trust me, you need to. It’s, you know, a 12-step program. And literally I help women get out of their toxic affairs with married men, with unavailable men, with bad boys. It’s a phenomenon that’s going over America. You know women are attracting to these wrong guys. And I hear from women every single day. It’s unbelievable. WENTWORTH: Now I want to sort of open this debate up to all three of you, which is that a lot of people say, men and women clearly are different, and we have different needs and men really biologically, physically, their urge is to spread their seed throughout the land, and ours is to kind of, you know, incubate. And when you put that in its very kind of specific scientific DNA kind of way, do we allow men because it is their physical urge to go out and have at it? FRANKEL: I think women — first of all, men are sleeping with the women. And I mean, speaking of the sharks that are going to be on the show tonight, there are a lot of women going out and preying on men. So I think it’s equal. I think a lot of women have a big sexual appetite. So, beyond the television shows, movies, music, trash novels, and magazines encouraging infidelity, a cable news network not only feels this is an appropriate subject, but also at 9PM. With all this publicizing of extra-marital relationships, how do couples manage to stay together AND raise children that honor commitment and vows? Seems to be more and more impossible, doesn’t it?  If you can take more of this, the full transcript is available here .

Terry Gilliam Talks ‘Liberating’ Arcade Fire Webcast

‘I’m just a really old groupie,’ the director jokes. By Eric Ditzian Terry Gilliam Photo: MTV News Terry Gilliam had been gearing up this summer for pre-production on “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” — a famously troubled film the director first started shooting a decade ago only to see it collapse — when what Gilliam calls a financial “hiccup” again interrupted work. That’s when he got a call from the Arcade Fire , asking if he’d like to join the band on tour and direct a webcast of their concert at Madison Square Garden. “I have to thank them for liberating me from weeks of depression,” Gilliam laughed. And so since late last week, Gilliam has been riding on the band’s tour bus, checking out shows in support of their new album, The Suburbs, and figuring out exactly how he’s going to capture their epic sound for computer screens. The effort is part of American Express’ “Unstaged,” a series of concerts by artists like Alicia Keys and John Legend streamed over the Web. As he readies plans to film the Arcade show on Thursday (August 5), Gilliam gave MTV News a call to chat about his existential connection with the band, the difference between making movies and making music and why he’s hoping not to inflict “too much Terry Gilliam” on the webcast. MTV : It was surprising, in a very good way, to hear about an Arcade Fire/ Terry Gilliam collaboration. How’d the whole thing come together? Gilliam : Less than two weeks ago, I got contacted by their manager asking if I’d be interested. There just happened to be a little gap in my life, and it’s something I’ve never done, and I’ve been a fan of the band since Funeral. I thought, “Why not? Just leap off the edge of the cliff and see what happens.” MTV : Did they know that you were a fan or something? Terry Gilliam : I don’t know. It turned out that they like my stuff, and maybe the band and I will develop a relationship, so this really has become a meeting as opposed to anything else. I hate the fact that this word “directing” is being slammed all over the place. I’m not directing. I’m just hanging out with them. I’m just a really old groupie. MTV : So if you wouldn’t call it directing, what are you doing in preparation and then on the day of the show? Will you be in the control room calling for cameras? Terry Gilliam : I’m still working it out, which is what is so wonderful. I’ve been with the band since Montreal on Friday night. I’ve seen three shows already. I’m just trying to work out what we’re doing. The reason I’m so relaxed about it is that the show is so good that I don’t have to do anything. You just point some cameras at it and it’ll be great. The cameras and the team that does that are already in place. All I’m trying to do is make sure what they capture is true to what the band is doing. The band has got guys mixing their own cameras up on the screen and pulling in material that they’ve already assembled. When I saw that, I realized, “I don’t have anything to do!” which is good, because they’ve got great stuff, and anything I might do is just unnecessary and may end up being too much Terry Gilliam. MTV : There can never be too much Terry Gilliam! Terry Gilliam : Oh, I’ve read the reviews. Come on! MTV : So what have your conversations been like with Win Butler and the band as you hang out and get closer to the live stream? Terry Gilliam : It’s all about knowing who they are and how they see things. They come from the suburbs and I come from the suburbs. The music resonated as much with me as it does with contemporary suburban kids or kids trying to get out of the suburbs. There are those that stay behind in this kind of Middle Earth that is neither country nor city, neither good nor bad, but a place that if you’re creative, you just need to get away from. You want to get where it’s painful. MTV : So are you just going to be kicking back having a beer on show night? Terry Gilliam : I’m in the middle of it! I don’t know what will happen! They said, “Just come along and we’ll see what happens.” In many ways, if we get on well, there’s something in the future that can be more thought-out. When Win and I first talked on the phone, I said, “Win, when I make a movie, I’m a couple years in preparation so that when I get to shooting, it’s so much a part of my being that I’m not even thinking about it. It’s not like we’re playing music and I’m at the piano and you come in with a guitar and we make a song.” The whole thing is very relaxed and we’ll see what else it leads to if I don’t make too many mistakes. MTV : Are you guys thinking about a more in-depth documentary? Terry Gilliam : Those conversations are floating around with other people and I’m staying out of them and seeing where this leads. It’s exploratory for us and for the band. MTV : Have you gone back and looked at some classic concert documentaries? Terry Gilliam : Nope! I don’t watch concerts very often. I’ve been in a couple. I was in the “Concert for George.” [Monty] Python was a big part of that. That was such a great night. The atmosphere was astonishing. When you see the DVD, it’s fine for people that weren’t there, but it was not what we experienced. That’s the problem with DVDs and webcasts — it’s just a fraction of the experience of being in the room. It’s always difficult to capture that. That’s why theater is theater. It’s that moment and no other moment. MTV : You sound so chilled out! I think it’s great that you’re just going with the flow on this whole thing. Terry Gilliam : It’s been so much fun. We’ve had a documentary camera running around following me when I’m talking to the band. I have no idea what that will end up being. When I work on a film, everything is so controlled. So the idea of someone with a camera, wiggling it around at us when we’re talking, I’m hoping it might be liberating. Because I don’t care! Lil Wayne Debuts New Single, ‘Right Above It,’ Featuring Drake

First track from I’m Not a Human Being EP aired on New York radio on Tuesday. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: C. Flanigan/ Getty Images Lil Wayne dominated New York’s hip-hop radio stations on Tuesday night, when the Cash Money Records superstar conducted an interview on Hot 97, and almost simultaneously, his new single, “Right Above It,” featuring Drake, premiered on Power 105. The song is the first effort from Lil Wayne’s forthcoming EP, I’m Not a Human Being, slated for release on September 27 (Lil Wayne’s birthday). During his Hot 97 interview with Funkmaster Flex, Wayne said he recorded the music for his upcoming EP before turning himself in to serve a yearlong prison sentence. “Yes, it’s gonna drop before Carter IV, only on the Internet,” Wayne said over the phone. “This is stuff that I recorded right before I came here.” “Meet me on the fresh train,” Wayne raps over the synth-laden production. “Yes, I’m in the building, you just on the list of guest names/ And all of my riders don’t give a f—, X-games/ Guns turn you boys into … sex change.” Wayne later chants on the chorus: “Now tell me how you love it/ And know you at the top and only heaven’s right above it.” Earlier this year, Drake told MTV2’s “Sucker Free” host DJ Envy that he and Lil Wayne are planning on recording a joint project once Wayne finishes his sentence. “I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/ Drake album,” Drake explained. “There’s some things I’m excited for in my life — I’m excited to go perform certain places — but [this project] will probably be one of the most exciting things in my life, because we make music on a different level. It’s just so fun, so comfortable. A whole album? To think about all the things we can do, especially if we’re gonna do 15 songs. Me and him don’t like to do 12, 13 [songs]. We want to do 15, 16. Yeah, Lil Wayne and Drake album.” What do you think about Lil Wayne’s “Right Above It,” featuring Drake? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @MTVRapFix . Related Artists Lil Wayne

Going Too Favre: QB Allegedly Texts Penis Pictures to Jenn Sterger

Brett Favre still can’t decide whether or not to retire. Or take off his Crocs before getting freaky in pics texted to Jenn Sterger . Allow us to explain. Sterger is a former Florida State University student who parlayed her looks into spreads in Maxim and Playboy and even a gig as a part-time correspondent for Sports Illustrated’s website. She now serves as a reporter on The Daily Line , a program on Versus. According to AJ Daulerio of Deadspin.com, Sterger shared a story with him that focused on Favre’s one-year stint with the New York Jets and a few exchanges he had with this journalist. Take it away, AJ! “Sterger received a picture on her phone which was so shocking that she just tossed it across the room. It was his dick. Brett Favre’s dick. And it happened multiple times. In fact, Sterger claims that, in one of the photos Favre allegedly sent her, he’s masturbating — while wearing a pair of Crocs.” It’s important to note that no text messages or photos have been produced. Moreover, both the article’s author and Sterger confirm that she’s never met the indecisive quarterback. Still, this story is too funny to not pass along. After all, sports fans all know Favre is a tool. But few of us could have predicted we’d be reading a story about him showing his to Jenn Sterger today.

Did Dr. Dre Know Detox Would Take This Long? ‘Absolutely Not’

‘I thought it would take, at worst case, a couple of years,’ he tells Vibe for his cover story with Eminem. By Hillary Crosley Eminem and Dr. Dre on the cover of Vibe Photo: Vibe While Eminem talked about death and Brittany Murphy in his interview for the Vibe “Juice” issue, Dr. Dre delved into his Detox delay , the “Under Pressure” leak and rumors of an instrumental album. The Eminem and Dr. Dre cover of Vibe ‘s 15th-anniversary “Juice” issue is a nod to their original appearance in the mag eight years ago. The issue hits newsstands August 16, and Dre began by answering the question on many fans’ minds: Did he know Detox would take this long? “Absolutely not. I thought it would take, at worst case, a couple of years,” the super-producer said. “For example, actual work time on The Chronic was nine months, and actual work time on my last album, 2001, was about 10 months. The actual work time on this album is about half of that, where I’m seriously focusing on it. There is always something coming up. Like signing talent, old and new.” The California icon also talked about the recent leak of his duet with Jay-Z, “Under Pressure.” “[That] was a little bit more frustrating, because at least ‘Crack a Bottle’ had a hook on it,” Dre said of a previous leak. “I wouldn’t be as mad at a leak if the song was done. “I’m not mad at the fans,” he continued. “I’m mad at the person that leaked the sh–. I have no idea how it got out. It’s not even worth looking to see who did it. It happens. The most painful part about it is that I’m passionate about what I do, so people should hear it in the right form. Somebody actually hacked into our e-mails, so that made our red flags go up. We’re in a new age, and that’s a sign: ‘Wake up, mother—-er. You have to be more careful with your sh–.’ That’s all there is to it. I know what’s up now.” As for an album of instrumentals, Dre said it’s definitely on deck. “Oh, yeah, that’s in the works,” he said. “An instrumental album is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I have the ideas for it. I want to call it The Planets. I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but f— it. [ Laughs. ] It’s just my interpretation of what each planet sounds like. I’m gonna go off on that. Just all instrumental. I’ve been studying the planets and learning the personalities of each planet. I’ve been doing this for about two years now, just in my spare time, so to speak. I wanna do it in surround sound. It’ll have to be in surround sound for Saturn to work.” What are you expecting from Dr. Dre’s new material? Share your thoughts in the comments! Related Artists Dr. Dre Eminem

Chris Isaak Considered as Next American Idol Judge

We seem to be down to three. With American Idol auditions about to start up again around the nation, the show is anxious to name a replacement for Simon Cowell. With Bret Michaels already campaigning for the gig , and Harry Connick Jr. remaining a candidate, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed a third name for the job: Chris Isaak. According to that publication, the singer has been brought in twice for an interview with Idol producers. Isaak has guest-starred on a couple TV shows and is probably best known for his 1991 hit, “Wicked Game.” But it seems hard to believe many in Idol ‘s core audience have heard of him. Michaels would be the best choice if the show is going after pop culture relevance, while Connick – an actor, singer and composer – would deliver the most versatility. Who do you think should take Simon’s spot?
