Rihanna ‘Cried Laughing’ At James Franco’s Video

After seeing his take on ‘You Da One,’ Rihanna reveals she’s in talks to appear alongside the actor in ‘The Apocalypse.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rihanna at “MTV First: Battleship” Photo: MTV News Rihanna and James Franco might want to get a room. These two have been gushing about one another all over the press — but, it’s just business. MTV News caught up with Franco at CinemaCon in Las Vegas , where he opened up about almost being cast in Ri’s “We Found Love” video and how the pair might eventually appear together in the flick “The Apocalypse.” RiRi later revealed that she’s just as big a fan of Franco’s work as he is of hers. How big of a fan is he? Well, the actor recently released a viral video of himself lip-syncing “You Da One.” “I love James Franco,” Rihanna told MTV News during “MTV First: Battleship.” Referring to the online video of Franco singing his heart out to her Dr. Luke-produced Talk That Talk single, she added, “Someone sent this to me via Twitter, and I watched that. I cried laughing.” After learning that the frizzy-haired man in the clip was indeed the Oscar-nominated actor, Rihanna couldn’t believe he knew her music that well. “First of all, I didn’t recognize that it was him like that, and then I didn’t recognize it was him singing my song,” she said. “And it was kind of cool because I’m a huge fan of James Franco, so it was dope to know that he even knew my record.” About the chatter that she might appear with Franco in Seth Rogen’s movie “The Apocalypse,” well, that is still up in the air. But if she should join him, she might be playing one of the celebs partying at Franco’s house when they learn the apocalypse is coming. “That’s in the works,” she said. “I can’t really say. Nothing’s confirmed, but it’s open, and we’re interested.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Battleship.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Bobby Brown Didn’t Get Whitney Houston ‘Addicted’ To Drugs

‘I’m not the reason she’s gone,’ singer’s ex-husband tells Matt Lauer in upcoming ‘Today’ show chat. By Kara Warner Matt Lauer talks to Bobby Brown on “Today” Photo: NBC News Their relationship may have been tumultuous and their struggles with substance abuse well-documented, but Bobby Brown insists that he is not the reason ex-wife Whitney Houston started doing drugs, a habit that she battled right up until her death in February. “I’m not the one that got Whitney on drugs, at all,” Brown told “Today” host Matt Lauer in an interview set to air on Wednesday and Thursday. “I’m not the reason she’s gone.” Brown admitted that when he learned of his ex’s death, he was saddened to hear she had started using cocaine again. “I was hurt … because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years — I felt that she was, you know, I didn’t know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time, you know — listen, it’s a hard fight,” he said. Regarding his involvement in Houston’s drug use, Brown said that drugs were a part of Houston’s life before they met in 1991. “I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all,” he insisted. “It’s just, it’s just unexplainable, how one could [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I’m not the reason she’s gone.” The New Edition member said that Houston seemed to have “a glow about her” the last time he saw her over dinner at a restaurant with their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, which was about a week before she died. “She just looked like she was in a good place,” he said. ‘Avengers’ Version Of Hulk ‘More Accessible,’ Mark Ruffalo Says

‘He’s got a wry sense of humor about himself,’ actor tells MTV News at Tribeca Film Festival. By Kevin P. Sullivan Mark Ruffalo at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of “Avengers” Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Of all the actors coming together to form the Avengers, Mark Ruffalo decidedly had the most to prove. After two previous Hulk films left fans largely unsatisfied, a new actor in the role could either lead to another letdown or, finally, to a version that felt true to the comics. Fortunately for Ruffalo, early reviews of ” The Avengers ” overwhelming point to his version of Bruce Banner as one of the highlights of the film. MTV News caught up with Ruffalo at the closing-night ceremonies for the Tribeca Film Festival to get his take on the Hulk’s positive reception and to find out what was different this time around. Ruffalo felt the pressure that came with the role of the Hulk as soon as he signed on to be the third actor in as many films. “It was very daunting. I’ve never had a part so harshly reviewed before I even shot a single frame of film,” he said. “The fanboys had a lot to say about it — granted, they had a great deal of care about this part and a lot of sentimentality as well, as do I, growing up on it.” The actor said that the latest technology gave him the biggest advantage over the first two iterations of the character. “There have been other great performances as Banner. The only real edge that I had was that the technology had changed so much since that last movie that I actually got to play the Hulk,” Ruffalo said. This latest version of the Hulk takes a different approach to the character, giving him a dry sense of humor about his condition, but Ruffalo gave credit to both Eric Bana and Edward Norton for helping lay the foundation in the first two films. “I just think it’s a natural progression of the other performances. When you find the guy at this point, he’s tired of running. He’s got a wry sense of humor about himself,” Ruffalo said. “He’s ready to turn and face the world. He’s got a charming world-weariness that’s kind of knocked the edges off of him and made him slightly more accessible.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Avengers.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit . ‘Dark Shadows’ Sneak Peek Reveals Johnny Depp’s De-Fanging Plan

New featurette is dedicated to late star of original soap, Jonathan Frid. By John Mitchell Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros With just two weeks left until the big release of “Dark Shadows,” Warner Bros. is stoking the coals of excitement with a new featurette that brings not only behind-the-scenes interviews and footage, but offers up an important new plot detail from the film. “The legend of the vampire has been told for centuries, capturing the dark shadows of our imagination and inspiring filmmakers and actors to breathe new life into the undead,” a voice-over reminds us at the top of the clip. “But there’s never been a vampire like Barnabas Collins.” Depp said the idea to do the film came naturally to him and Burton, who have worked together on eight films. “I’d always been sort of attracted to horror films and things like that, even as a very young kid,” Depp explains. “I said, ‘Tim, we should do a vampire movie together.’ ” And when Johnny Depp and Tim Burton decide to do something, it has a way of getting done. A large part of the featurette focuses on the history of vampires in movies and reminds us that one of cinema’s great vampires, Christopher Lee, is featured in “Shadows.” “One of my favorite moments I’ve ever been able to experience in a film was I got to hypnotize Dracula; I got to hypnotize Christopher Lee,” Depp says. “He was, you know, the great Dracula.” To get into character as Barnabas Collins, Depp didn’t stray far from the source material. “For Barnabas, everywhere I searched character-wise, I kept coming back to Jonathan Frid,” the actor explains. “He really did something beautiful with that character on the ‘Dark Shadows’ series back in the ’60s and early ’70s.” Frid, who cameos in the film and is shown arriving at a party at Collinwood in the featurette, died earlier this month in his native Canada. The clip closes with an “In Memoriam” dedication to the classically trained actor, who maintained a close relationship with the show’s fans by appearing at “Shadows” conventions and readings as recently as 2011, before his health began to decline. The clip features some great new scenes from the film, including a fun bit where Depp’s Barnabas seeks advice from Chloe Moretz’s Carolyn Stoddard on “the art of courting a woman of this time,” but importantly introduces a major plot twist that we wondered (all the way back in October!) whether Burton would include in his film: Barnabas’ attempt to de-fang himself with the help of Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) and become mortal again to pursue a romantic relationship with Bella Heathcote’s Victoria Winters. “If a man can become a monster, then a monster can become a man,” Barnabas says in a voice-over while Dr. Hoffman surveys large blood-filled beakers and Depp sits with IV lines running from him. It’s a story line carried over directly from both the original soap and its short-lived ’90s remake. (Indeed, this particular story line was the focus of NBC’s revival starring Ben Cross and Joanna Going.) “By tapping into vampires, witches, ghosts, the reason they’re powerful is because we all kind of experience those feelings on some level,” Burton says of the film. “It’s something that remains in our popular culture because it’s strangely part of our everyday lives.” Just two weeks to go, “Dark Shadows” fans! Departed artists like Whitney Houston, Queen’s Freddie Mercury and John Lennon also get mentions from fans in Times Square. By Kate Callahan Michael Jackson Photo: Sony Music Entertainment NEW YORK — After the Tupac hologram performance at Coachella made such a huge splash, the team behind the projection system floated the possibility this week of an Elvis hologram to perform with Justin Bieber . Even ’90s girl group TLC is rumored to be considering a virtual version of the late Left Eye on their upcoming tour. With all that talk, MTV News hit Times Square to ask fans which departed artists they would most like to see perform in hologram form. While some of those interviewed wanted to see other rappers like the Notorious B.I.G. or Nate Dogg, one fan thought Whitney Houston should get the honors. “I love her, I grew up singing her [songs], just walking around the house when I was seven or eight,” Shayana of Houston said. Brits Amy Winehouse and John Lennon of the Beatles were also popular picks, and a few rock fans mentioned Queen’s flamboyant frontman. “It would have to be Freddie Mercury because Queen were one of the all-time greatest bands and he was a showman,” said a fan named Rob.
